Metal pipe connection The present invention relates to a metal pipe connection, in particular for flexible metal pipes.
The metal pipe connection according to the invention is characterized by a prevention member arranged at one pipe end with a sleeve connected to it or operatively connected to it, the front inner edge of the connecting member or sleeve being chamfered, and the connecting member or sleeve on the said tube end is attached by an axially adjustable counter piece which is attached to the sleeve, and a pressed between the sleeve and the counterpart against the tube packing.
The sleeve can be formed as a hub extending on the connecting member in the direction of the counterpart.
The connecting member is preferably a flange surrounding the sleeve. This flange and the sleeve are provided with interacting surfaces which limit the movement of the flange towards the pipe end.
The counterpart can be screwed to the sleeve by means of continuous and evenly distributed threaded bolts on its circumference. It is also possible to screw the counterpart into the sleeve.
Embodiments of the invention are explained after standing with reference to the drawing, wherein Figures 1 and 2 represent side elevations, which pipe connections, partially in section, show on a flexible metal pipe.
The connection shown in Fig.l has a metal ring 1, which is provided with a sleeve-shaped set 2 and threaded holes 6 and is chamfered at the points 13 and 14. Furthermore, a connecting member serving as a flange 4 is present, which has aligned holes 5 on the threaded holes 6 in the ring 1, a chamfered at 16 annular counter piece 7, which also has holes 8 directed towards the holes 5 and 6, and a ver malleable packing member 11, which may for example consist of an asbestos cord coated with white lead.
The connection is assembled as follows: First the flange 4 and the counter ring 7 are pushed onto the pipe 15. The sleeve 1 is then attached by brazing, welding or otherwise at the end of the flexible metal tube 15, the brazing material being applied continuously ver at the point of the chamfer 13 and over a limited area of the tube 15. The flange 4 is then brought into its final position in that it is pushed over the sleeve part 2 and rotated until the holes 5 are coaxial with the threaded holes 6 in the ring 1.
The white lead coated asbestos cord 11 is now partially wrapped in the corrugation of the tube 15 under the chamfer 14 until it forms the same diameter as the largest diameter of the chamfer. The counter ring 7 is then brought into the correct position and rotated so that the holes 8 are coaxial with the holes 5 in the flange 4 and the threaded holes 6 in the ring 1. The counter ring 7 is by means of the inserted through the holes 5 and 8 and in the threaded holes 6 an engaging threaded bolt 9 with the ring 1 a related party.
As a result of the even tightening by means of the nuts 10, the white lead asbestos cord seal 11 is pressed together between the chamfers 14 and 16. The flange is thus firmly, but not rigidly, keep ge in its correct position on the pipe.
One application of the invention consists in creating a powerful coupling between two pipe sections, the ring end faces being ground precisely and connecting members must be passed through the flanges on each of the pipe sections in order to press the opposing ring end faces together and bring about an effective seal. It is evident that the flange 4 can be of any size and shape.
It can be seen that the extent of the brazing required is very small, since it can only be applied to a small area and can be easily performed. The flange 4 can be replaced by a loose annular flange, which enables rotation of the flange. Such a flange has no holes 5 and is flat in shape. It is provided with a shoulder to fit the ring 1. The flange can also be replaced by another fitting, such as a connecting nut.
The latter can be designed differently, depending on the counter-fitting to which the nut is to be connected.
In the connection shown in Figure 2, the flange 4 'is fastened directly to the flexible metal tube 15 BE. This is achieved in that the flange 4 ′ is designed with a chamfer 13 ′, which allows the introduction of hard solder, through which the flange 4 ′ is fastened to the tube 15.
The flange 4 'has a second chamfer 14 and also has a central hub 17 which is provided with an internal thread to receive a counter screw 18, one end face 19 of which is chamfered. The counter screw 18 has a series of evenly spaced holes 20 by means of which it can be screwed in and tightened using a spe cial tool.
The counter screw 18 is used to hold the pack 11 in the correct position and to compress it.
The method of assembly is essentially the same as that for the first described embodiment. The counter screw 18 is first pushed onto the pipe, whereupon the flange 4 'is placed on the other side and brazed to the pipe 15 via the chamfer 13.
An asbestos cord coated with white lead or an equivalent sealing cord is then wound into the corrugations of the tube 15 and compressed into the center hub 17 by screwing the counter screw. In order to localize the heat dissipation during the brazing process, the tube 15 is immersed in water so far that the sleeve part 2 is in contact with the water surface.
The connection allows a practically tight connection and can be used for pipes that are used to carry steam or in exhaust systems and in other circumstances where the pipe is exposed to high temperatures and pressures.
