Trois formes d'exécution du dispositif sont concevables suivant la manière dont on fait travailler le tube-ressort;
Device for taking liquids at different levels in a container
Sampling liquids of different density from reciprocating vessels, such as pendulum gyroscopic centrifuges, presents difficulties due to their lateral displacement on start-up or, when the same device must be used for them. different liquids thus separated, due to the differences in the levels of these liquids.
The end of the tube, through which the sample is taken, must remain constantly within the liquid to be withdrawn, and, consequently, follow a liquid level, the level of which is variable.
The present invention relates to a device for taking liquids at different levels in a container. This device is characterized in that it comprises, connected to a sampler tube, a tube of which a part, wound in a helix, constitutes a helical spring, and is arranged between two plates, the inlet end of the sampler tube being brought at the desired level by increasing or decreasing the length of the spring tube by adjusting the spacing of said plates.
Three embodiments of the device are conceivable depending on the way in which the tube-spring is made to work;
1) the spring tube is permanently compressed by the plates, more when they are brought together and less when they are far apart; this is the embodiment which has been preferred and which will be described later.
2) The tube-spring is in turn, either in compression or in extension, its normal state of equilibrium being for an intermediate position of the plates.
3) The spring tube is continuously stretched by the plates, except when they are brought together at a minimum.
The first embodiment is of an easier construction, since the fixing of the tubes to the seats of the plates is not necessary.
The second embodiment has the advantage of making it possible, for the same fatigue of the metal, either to increase the amplitude of the movement, or to reduce the number of turns, therefore the size of the device and consequently, pressure drops.
This device allows, with a single device, to take the different layers of liquids, contained in a fixed decanter for example, without
have to permanently leave bundles of tubes of different length, unusable as soon as the metals have changed.
Another advantage of this device is to louse
see lending itself to a servo-control, so that the end of the sampling tube can be placed automatically within the layer of chosen density while following the variations in dimension of this level: this can be achieved, for example, by means of 'a suitable probe, for example a photoelectric cell, fixed to the end of the sampling tube and connected to a motor controlling the spacing of the plates.
We will describe, by way of example and with reference to
accompanying drawing, the embodiment of the device, object of the invention, in which the spring tube works constantly in compression.
Fig. 1 shows in elevation the diagram of an organ of the device.
Fig. 2 shows an elevational view of an embodiment of the device.
Fig. 3 shows a sectional view along
I-I of fig. 2, this view having then been turned a quarter of a turn.
Fig. 4 shows a sectional view of the turns of the spring tube in the state of compression, with their safety wedge.
Fig. 5 shows a sectional view of the same view as FIG. 4 the turns being in the extended state.
Fig. 6 represents an elevational view of a diagram of a variant of the device.
A tube 1 (FIG. 1), wound in a helix, comprises a certain number of turns; it is compressed between plates 2 and 3 by means of seats 4 and 5 intended to prevent the tube from breaking at its ends 6. The spacing of plates 2 and 3 can be modified by means of a threaded shaft 7 , integral in translation with the plate 3, being screwed on a nut 8 this nut is trapped between the plate 2 and a plate 9 integral with the plate 2. By rotating the nut 8 by any suitable means, the threaded shaft is moves, causing plate 3 in its course. Stops 10 and 11 limit the stroke of shaft 7.
Guides 12 prevent the rotation of the plate 3 relative to the plate 2 and maintain the parallelism of the two plates.
The device comprises a frame (Fig. 2 and 3) consisting of an upper horizontal plate 13, a lower horizontal plate 14, connected by vertical lateral plates 15; these lateral vertical plates are fixed to the plates 13- and 14 by angles 16.
To facilitate understanding of fig. 2, the front plate has not been shown.
The frame is fixed to a base 17 by an iron 18 and to an enclosure 19 containing an apparatus 20 in which the sample is taken, by a plate 21 also serving to fix the enclosure 19 on the base 17.
Vertical angles 22 (fig. 3) are used to hold the plates 15 in place.
An electric motor 23, via a reduction gear 24 and a worm nut-screw system, not shown in FIG. 2, but similar to that of FIG. 1, longitudinally displaces the shaft 7, the threaded upper end of which constitutes the worm part. Two electrical safety contacts 25 limit the rise or fall of the helical tube 1, avoiding forces on the stops 10 and 11.
The helical tube is connected to the receptacle 19 in which the sample is taken by a rigid tube 26 which. can play freely in a slot 27 of the plate 21.
The tube 1 risks deforming during the compressions and extensions to which it is subjected; lugs 28 and stops 29 (FIGS. 4 and 5) are welded at 30 and 31 respectively on the turns of tube 1 in order to distribute the forces.
When the tube 1 is compressed (FIG. 4), the lugs 28 are in contact with the underside of the stops 29; when the tube 1 is stretched, in order to take a sample (FIG. 5), the lugs 28 are in contact with the upper face of the stops 29, distributing the force over the various turns before their deformation can become permanent.
In one embodiment of the device, the spring tube had an outside diameter of 24 mm., An inside diameter of 20 nun. ; the propeller it formed had 25 turns of radius 150 mm. The height of the distended tube was 1200 mm., Its stroke 240 mm.
In the variant of FIG. 6, the tube 26 does not plunge directly into the pendulum decanter 32, but is connected to the top 33 of a siphon, one of the branches 34 of which plunges into this decanter and the other 35 in a container 36 contained in a sealed tank 37 located on a lower level.
The fixed end of the spring tube 1 is connected to a vacuum pump 38.
The transfer of liquid from the decanter 32 to the container 36 takes place as follows:
- the siphon is lowered to the desired level by moving the axis 7; due to the asymmetry of the branches 34 and 35, the latter are guided by sealed rings 39 and 40 passing respectively through the cap of the settling tank 32 and the wall of the tank 37.
- the assembly formed by the coil and the siphon is placed under vacuum; the liquid to be withdrawn contained in the decanter rises in branch 34 and the priming liquid of the siphon, brought beforehand by a tube 41 into the receptacle 36, rises in the branch 35.
- The evacuation is stopped when the set of two liquids exceeding the top of the siphon 33 reaches in the tube 26 a level between X and Y. The siphon is then primed and the transfer from the decanter 32 to the container 36 s' performs.
