Process for the preparation of N, N'-disubstituted phenylene diamines
Patent No. 309176 describes a process for the production of N, N'-dialkyl-arylene, diamines by reacting aromatic dinitro or aminitro compounds with at most two benzene rings with aliphatic ketones in the presence of hydrogen elevated temperature and elevated
Print.
This process is characterized in that a catalyst containing metallic copper pressed into pills is used, a temperature between 100 and 180 C and a pressure between
30 and 100 atmospheres is maintained, being in the liquid phase and with a continuous
Direct current of the reactants is worked through the Kata analyzer.
The present invention now relates to a continuous process for the preparation of 4-isopropyl- or 4-sec-butylamino-diphenylamine, which is characterized in that 4-amino-, 4-nitro- or 4-nitroso-diphenylamine are mixed with
Acetone or methyl ethyl ketone and hydrogen in excess in the liquid phase at a pressure of 30-300 atmospheres and a temperature of
100-180 C in the presence of a copper-on-zinc oxide or copper-on-chromium oxide catalyst formed into pills under a pressure of at least 2362 kg / cm2. These two substances make unexpectedly good antioxidants, e.g.
B. for gasoline and for aldehydes, such as nonaldehyde. The reaction is preferably carried out in the presence of an amount of the recycled reaction product which makes up at least 50 / o of the total charge, and the reaction mixture is preferably passed continuously upwards through a layer of the catalyst pills. The withdrawal of a large amount of the reaction product, preferably of at least 85% of the total charge to the reaction zone, is recommended when reaction vessels with a diameter of more than 50.8 mm are used.
It is preferred to operate at a pressure of no more than 100 atmospheres and a temperature in the range of 120-165 ° C.
It is recommended that the ketone is used in at least a stoichiometric amount, and there should be enough liquid, which can be an inert solvent or an excess of ketone, to dissolve the amino, Nitro- or nitroso-diphenylamine. For example, methanol can be used as a solvent for this purpose. and other lower aliphatic alcohols can be used. The flow rate is preferably about up to 5 mol of the diphenylamine per liter of catalyst mass and hour. The amount of hydrogen is to be limited so that the process takes place in the liquid phase.
The reactants are preferably passed upwards in cocurrent, since the best yields are achieved here.
example
A solution of 2 kg of 4-nitroso-diphenylamine in 28 kg of acetone was with a Ströungsgeschwindig speed of 1.5 liter / hour together with 550 liters of hydrogen / hour (based on normal temperature and normal pressure) in cocurrent upwards over a reduced copper chromite catalyst in the form of Pills of 4.76 mm in diameter, which were produced at a pressure of at least 2362 kg / cm2. The reaction tube, which was cooled by indirect heat transfer and which contained the catalyst, had a length of 1524 mm and a diameter of 31.7 mm.
The catalyst mass took up a volume of one liter, the inlet temperature was 110-115 ° C, the temperature in the catalyst layer was 160-165 C and the pressure was 50 atmospheres.
The conversion of the 4-nitroso-diphenylamine was complete, and when the product was distilled at 0.5 mm Hg, 1.937 g of 4-isopropylaminodiphenylamine (yield: 85 "/ e) with a melting point of 73-78 C) were obtained. (Melting point of the pure compound: 80.5¯ C).
