Coil handling device
The present invention relates to a device for handling coils comprising an open end whose diameter is greater than that of the opposite end.
This device is characterized in that it comprises a main conveyor comprising individual transverse pockets for receiving the coils formed in its transport surface so as to receive the coils arranged transversely side by side and to transport them separately one by one, and one spool reversal mechanism disposed near the conveyor and arranged to remove incorrectly aligned spools therefrom and invert them end to end laterally.
The appended drawing represents, by way of example, two embodiments of the device forming the subject of the invention.
Fig. I partially shows, from the front and in perspective, looking downwards, a first embodiment of the device; this perspective view is directed perpendicular to the transport surface of a third conveyor that the device comprises.
Fig. 2 is a partial plan view of part of the device shown in FIG. 1.
Fig. 3 is a partial side elevational view showing an air nozzle of this embodiment of the device.
Fig. 4 is a view taken in the direction of arrow IV in FIG. 5, and shows the angle of inclination of the air nozzle.
Fig. 5 is a schematic sectional view in side elevation of the device of FIG. 1.
Fig. 6 is a view, similar to FIG. 1, of a second embodiment of the device.
The device shown in FIG. 1 to 5 comprises a hopper 11 which has a discharge opening 13 and which is located near a conveyor belt 15 in the form of a channel. The hopper 11 has an inclined false bottom 11a, adjacent to the discharge opening 13; a vibrator (not shown) is attached to the false bottom to aid in discharging onto the conveyor 15 of coils B having an open end whose diameter is greater than that of the opposite end.
The belt conveyor 15 comprises two side walls 15a which, seen in section (Fig. 5), are inclined downwards and inwards and between which is disposed a conveyor belt 15b; this strip is driven in a direction such that its upper strand moves to the left when looking at figs. 1 and 2. Any motor (not shown) can be used to drive web 15b; this strip is preferably continuously entrained during the operation of the device.
It preferably has a width of approximately between once and twice the diameter of the large end of the coils to be transported on the strip, so that the coils are substantially aligned longitudinally on the strip during transport. The coils B are loaded in bulk into the hopper, from which they are unloaded through the opening 13 on the conveyor 15.
The coils advance end-to-end longitudinally in a single row or in a double row to a second inclined conveyor 17, with a flat belt, which moves transversely to the direction of movement of the conveyor 15.
The coils B, arranged end to end and leaving the conveyor 15, are driven, both by gravity and by the downward movement of the conveyor 17, to a main conveyor 19, the conveyor belt of which comprises pockets, formed by blades 19b fixed on a continuous strip; on arriving on this conveyor 19, the coils are presented transversely, as can be seen in FIGS. 1, 2 and 5. The conveyor 19 comprises a strand 19a, disposed near the second conveyor 17 and inclined relative to the vertical.
To avoid traffic jams and to facilitate the effective capture of the coils by the conveyor 19 from the second conveyor 17, the latter passes over a roller 17a of relatively small diameter, near its lower end; thus, the lower end of the effective transport surface of the conveyor 17 is disposed close to the conveyor 19. The second conveyor 17 can be driven, if desired, so that its upper strand moves in the opposite direction of the direction. moving the coils on this conveyor; in this case, a wider roll can be used at the lower end of conveyor 17, and gravity is then the only means involved in moving the coils down on conveyor 17.
It can sometimes happen that two coils are fitted together end to end, when they leave the hopper 11, the small end B1 of a coil Bs being engaged in the large end B2 of the other coil Bs. To prevent these coils are driven by the conveyor 17 to the conveyor 19 and can thus produce a jamming of the coils at the intersection of these two conveyors, the conveyors 17 and 15 are arranged so as to unload these two coils on the left side of the conveyor 17 (looking at fig.
1). For this purpose, the conveyor belt 15b has its upper strand extending longitudinally upwards, making, for example, an angle of 20 to 100 with the horizontal, its discharge end being placed at a distance of approximately near between 12.5mm and 25mm above the adjacent surface of the conveyor 17. A fixed guard plate 18 is disposed on the opposite side of the conveyor 17 (i.e. on the left side looking at Fig. 1 ), the width of which is equal to or slightly greater than the length of each coil B, this length being equal, for example, to 25 cm; this guard plate 18 extends a small distance, for example between 6 mm and 12 mm, above the upper surface of the strip 17, on the path followed by the coils B from the conveyor 15 .
Because the conveyor belt 15b is tilted upward, with its discharge end placed above the adjacent surface of the belt 17, the leading ends of the reels B are projected into space from the belt 15b onto a short distance, after the leading end has left the web i 5b and before it has come into contact with the conveyor belt 17. In the case of individual reels, these reels are unbalanced and fall on this belt in appropriate relative positions, although they may collide with the side and inner wall 18b of the guard plate 18 in falling so; they are then driven by the conveyor belt 17 onto the conveyor 19 which collects them.
However, in the case of spools fitted end to end, and because of the great total length of these two spools, the front spool is projected onto the upper part 18a of the guard plate by the force of the strip 15b, then moves by sliding on this part 18a and thus discharges over this plate. It will be understood that the greater the upward tilt angle of the strip 15b, the lower the speed necessary for the movement of this strip can be, and vice versa, to fulfill this function.
The blades 19b, forming the pockets 19a on the conveyor 19, are spaced between them by a distance slightly greater than the width of the large ends B2 of the coils; however, the spacing between these blades must be insufficient to allow two coils to be in a single pocket i 9a; the blades 19b extend, above the bottom surface of the strip, to a height slightly greater than the diameter of the small ends B2 of the coils. Thus, the coils disposed transversely and descending on the second conveyor 17 are collected one by one in the pockets i 9a of the conveyor 19, between the blades thereof.
It may sometimes happen that a coil Bt presents itself to the conveyor 19 in such a way that it tends to move longitudinally towards the top of the conveyor and to tilt back end to end towards the second conveyor. To rotate such coils to a transverse position, with respect to the conveyor 19, instead of allowing them to remain in their longitudinal relative positions, and thus to prevent such coils Bt from continuously turning end to end under the action of the conveyor 19, a deflection plate 21 is arranged so that it makes an outward angle with the bottom of the conveyor 19.
The action of this deflection plate 21 is analogous to that of a cam; the reels, the length of which is directed more or less vertically, cannot in fact turn end to end to return to the second conveyor, because they are prevented from doing so by a cam effect on the upper end of the reel at the time where the latter tilts backwards and strikes the deflection plate 21; this upper end of the reel is in fact moved laterally (to the right, looking at figs. 1 and 2), by a cam effect, when it tends to turn back end to end under the action of the conveyor 19. Thus, the reel leaving its longitudinal tilting position passes to a transverse position, so as to be correctly collected by the conveyor 19.
It should be noted that the coils, collected and transported in the pockets of the conveyor 19, do not necessarily have their ends B1 and B2 directed in the same respective directions. In order for the coils to be thus aligned, the device has a coil reversal mechanism which discharges, from their pockets of the conveyor 19, the coils which are not aligned with their end B1 on the right side and their end B2. on the left side; however, the arrangements may be changed so that the coils are oriented in the opposite direction if desired.
To be sure that the coils are perfectly seated in the pockets 19a, the instant they pass near the coil reversal mechanism 25, there is a downward holding plate 23; this plate 23 is articulated at 23a and extends across the width of the conveyor 19; its free end, stressed by gravity, is engaged freely against the blades of the conveyor and against the reels, arranged in the pockets, between the blades.
The coil reversal mechanism 25 is in the form of a continuously operating air nozzle 27; the discharge port 27a of this nozzle is disposed near an opening 29 formed in the side wall 19c of the conveyor 19; the nozzle is connected to a source P of compressed air. The orifice 27a and the opening 29 are arranged at a certain distance from the bottom of the conveyor belt 19, so as not to act on the small ends B1 of the coils, but they are sufficiently close to this bottom so that the current air grips and discharges the relatively wide open ends
B, coils, as shown schematically in dotted lines in FIG. 5.
The angle of inclination of the air nozzle 27, relative to the conveyor belt 19, is chosen so as to deflect the wide end B2 of a poorly oriented reel towards the outside of the belt 19. . Under the action of the pneumatic ejection force thus directed and of the resulting torque which is thus applied to it, the reel Br, oriented in the opposite direction, is ejected outside the conveyor 19 and turns over by itself on its path. (Fig. 5), to then fall into an inversion corridor 31, inclined downwards and in the form of a channel; this corridor 31 is disposed near the front of the conveyor 19, but is separate from the latter.
The reversal lane 31 has a guard plate 31a, which extends upward from the lane, on the side opposite to the direction from which the coils approach the lane, in order to prevent the coils Br from being dragged too far, beyond the lane, under the action of variations in the air pressure of the nozzle, or a misalignment of the latter, etc.
The particular angle of inclination A of the air nozzle 27, relative to the bottom of the conveyor 19, depends on the energy of the air jet and the relative positions of the conveyor 19, the nozzle 27 and the inclined inversion corridor 31; however, it was found that an angle A (fig.
4), approximately 450, could be suitable, for example, for a nozzle orifice with a diameter of about 1.59 mm, an air pressure of about 3.5 kg / cm2, and in the case where the contact surface of the inverted coil with the inclined inversion lane is approximately 12.7 cm below and 43 cm in front of one side of the nozzle orifice. The ejected and inverted coils are received by the lane 31, slide down along this lane, with their heads B1 forward, and unload on the conveyor 15, from which they pass onto the conveyor 17, with their ends large diameter B2 forward.
The inverted coils then pass along the second conveyor 17 again, climb onto the conveyor 19 with correct alignment, and unload together, along with the other correctly aligned coils, when the conveyor 19 begins its discharge stroke towards. the bottom. Thus, the reels, which are preferably warp reels, are stored and aligned with their respective ends directed in the same directions, and finally unloaded into a reel lift box 33, for subsequent handling.
The embodiment described above is particularly useful in a small space, when the hopper has to be placed between the first conveyor 15 and the conveyor 19, very close to these two conveyors. There is shown in FIG. 6 is another embodiment, which is useful in the case where the hopper is not necessarily arranged directly in the path of the reversing coils from the conveyor 19 to the first conveyor 15 for the longitudinal drive of the coils. In this embodiment, the air discharge nozzle 27 'is disposed on the side of the conveyor 19' opposite to that where the conveyor 15 'is located, so that the coils are discharged outside the conveyor 19'. and moved directly through the space to the first conveyor 15 '.
The angle of inclination of the air nozzle 27 ', relative to the bottom of the conveyor 19', may be significantly less than the corresponding angle of the previous embodiment for a given discharge energy of the air, because the distance traveled by the coils in space is greater than in the first embodiment, and the angle of rotation necessary to achieve a complete inversion of the coil of 1800 is less than in the first form of 'execution. With the exception of the direct movement of the coils from the conveyor 19 'to the conveyor 15', the operation of this second embodiment is substantially similar to that of the first embodiment.
