Process for the preparation of 2-oxo-hexahydropyrimidines 2-oxo-hexahydropyrimidine (trimethylene urea) has so far only been possible by reacting trimethylenediamine with diethyl carbonate (E. Fischer and Koch, Annalen der Chemie 232, 224) or dimethyl carbonate (Franchimont and Friedmann, Recueil des travaux chimiques des PaysrBas 26, 218) and by electrolytic reduction of barbituric acid (Tafel and Weinschenk, reports of the dtsch. chem. Ges. 33, 3384, 3386). The N-substituted 2-oxohexahydropyrimidines listed below have not yet been described.
It has been found that e.g. B. trimethylenediamine with urea supplies 2-oxo-hexahydropyrimidine and the derivatives of trimethylenediamine substituted on the nitrogen by an aliphatic radical with 1-18 carbon atoms can be reacted with urea analogously to the corresponding N-substituted 2-oxo-hexahydropyrimidines. This reaction takes place according to the following equation:
EMI1.1
Here, R has the meaning of H or an aliphatic radical with 1-18 carbon atoms, which can be saturated or unsaturated.
The invention now relates to a process for the preparation of 2-oxo-hexahydropyrimidine and its derivatives which are substituted on the nitrogen by aliphatic radicals with 1-18 carbon atoms, which is characterized in that urea which is optionally substituted on the nitrogen with trimethylenediamine or with 3- Amino-propanol-1 or with their derivatives correspondingly substituted on the nitrogen or with trimethylene-1,3-glycol. The starting materials can be allowed to react with or without a solvent in the heat, temperatures of 100 to 180 ° C. advantageously being used. The reaction of the N-substituted trimethylenediamines with urea takes much longer than the corresponding reaction of the unsubstituted trimethylenediamine.
The products obtained are mostly crystalline bodies that are capable of manifold reactions. They can be used in particular for textile-technical purposes.
example 1
30 g of urea (0.5 mol) are refluxed with 74 g of trimethylenediamine (1 mol) for 6 hours, ammonia escaping. After adding 100 cm3 of alcohol (960 per cent) it is allowed to cool. The 2-oxo-hexahydropyrimidine (trimethylene urea) formed precipitates in crystalline form. After suction filtration, it is washed with a little alcohol.
Colorless crystals with a melting point of 260 to 262 ° C. are obtained. The yield is 43.1 g (860/0 of theory). A further amount of 2-oxo-hexahydropyrimidine can be obtained from the mother liquor, increasing the yield to 95%. o the theory increases.
Example 2
176 g (2 mol) of N-methyl-trimethylenediamine (3-methylamino-propylamine) are heated with 60 g of urea (1 mol) in a reflux condenser for 48 hours, ammonia escaping. The reaction mixture is then treated with 100 cm3 of alcohol and allowed to crystallize out by cooling, with white crystals remaining after suction and washing with alcohol, which when dried have a melting point of 2622640 ° C. The crystalline product is 2-oxo-1-methyl-hexahydropyrimidine, which has a nitrogen content of 24.9% (theoretical 24.60 / 0). The yield is 91 g (800 / e of theory).
Example 3
198 g of N-isopropyl-trimethylenediamine (3-isopropylamino-propylamine) are heated with 51 g of urea for 48 hours on a reflux condenser, ammonia escaping. At the end of the reaction, 100 cm3 of alcohol (96 0 / oil) are added to the reaction mixture. After cooling, 2-oxo-1-isopropyl-hexahydropyrimidine precipitates in colorless crystals and can be obtained in pure form by suction and washing. The yield is 121 g (85 ovo of theory). The product melts at 150-153 ° C. and has a nitrogen content of 19.4% (theoretical 19.7%).
Example 4
226 g of N-substituted trimethylenediamine, the N-substituent of which is a mixture of straight-chain, aliphatic, saturated and unsaturated hydrocarbons with predominantly 18 carbon atoms, are heated with 34 g of urea at 1800 C for 72 hours, ammonia escaping. The condensation product obtained, 2-oxo-1-alkyl hexahydropyrimidine, the alkyl group of which has the above composition, can be recrystallized from alcohol, melts at 66.5760 ° C. and has a nitrogen content of X.930 / o.
