Process for the production of new dyes of the anthraquinone series The present invention relates to a process for the production of new dyes of the anthraquinone series, in particular new acidic dyes of the anthraquinone series which are to be used for dyeing wool.
British Patent No. 467815 describes the preparation of water-soluble dyes. These dyes are produced by connecting a connection dun2 of the anthraquinone series, which contains at least one reactive amino group, with a cyanuric halide, enide or a derivative thereof, which by substitution of one or two of its halogen atoms by another radical, respectively. Residues were obtained, the reactants being selected so that at least one of them contains at least one sulfonic or carboxylic acid group and causes the reaction.
Examples of such compounds of the anthraquinone series which contain at least one amino group can be the condensation of 1-amino-4-bromo-anthraquinone-2-sulfonic acid with 1,3-diaminobenzene or its sulfonic acid, 1,4-diaminobenzene. Benzidine, benzidine-disulfonic acid, diaminostilbene-disulfonic acid and p-diaminodiphenylamine can be mentioned.
The new dyes obtained by the process according to the invention have the following formula:
EMI0001.0033
where R1 is an optionally substituted alkyl or aralkyl group, R. = an alkyl, cycloalkyl, aralkyl or aryl group. Y signifies a sulfonic acid group or a hydrogen atom and X signifies a bridging group, the dye molecule not having more than two sulfonic acid groups.
The remainder R1 can e.g. B. methyl, ethyl, propyl, butyl or benzyl and the remainder R. = z. B. represent methyl, ethyl, propyl, butyl, cyclohexyl, benzyl or phenyl. As bridging group X z.
B. substituted or unsubstituted phenylenes, -C6H, -C, H, - or C, H, - NH-C,; H; groups in question. Examples of substituents for such bridging groups are e.g. B. sulfonic acid groups, alkyl or alkoxy groups or halogen atoms.
The method according to the present invention is characterized in that 1 mol of cyanuric chloride is mixed in any order with (mol of an anthraquinone derivative of the formula:
EMI0002.0001
and 1 mol of an oxy compound of the formula R.:OH, preferably in the presence of acid-binding agents, reacts.
In a preferred embodiment of the present process, the cyanuric chloride is first reacted with the oxy compound and the product thus obtained is isolated and, if desired, purified before it is reacted with the anthraquinone derivative.
Suitable oxy compounds that are used in the inventive method are, for example: methanol, ethanol, n- and iso-propanol, n-, i> o- and t-butanol, Cyclohexanol, benzyl alcohol, phenol, o-, m- and p-cresol should be mentioned.
The anthraquinone derivative used according to the process according to the invention can be prepared by reacting the corresponding 1-amino-4-bromo-anthraquinone-2-sulfonic acid with an amino compound of the formula NH., - X - \ HRI or by reacting a 2.-1-dibromo-1-aminoanthraquinone with an aminoverbindunz of the above formula and treatment of the product thus obtained with an alkali metal sulfite, z. B. \ atrium sulfite can be obtained.
To prepare the anthraquinone derivatives used according to the process according to the invention, 1-amino-4-bromo-anthra-lhinone-2-sulfonic acid can be used as such or e.g. B. 1 Amino-. * - broni-anthracliinon-2,5- or -2,8-disulfonic acid or mixtures of these acids use. Likewise, you can 2..1-dibromo-l-aminoanthraquinone as sol Ches or z.
B. use 2,4-dibromo-1-aminoanthraquinone-6- or -7-sulfonic acid or mixtures of these acids.
Suitable compounds of the formula NH. = X-NHRI are, for. B. p-Nlethylaminoaniline, m "'-Oxyäthylamino- aniline, p-n-butylaminoaniline, 4-methylamino-3-sulfoaniline and 4-n-butylamino-3-sulfoaniline to mention.
The new dyes often precipitate out of the reaction mixture at the end of the reaction. If they stay in solution. they can conveniently by adding an electrolyte, such as. B. sodium chloride, potassium chloride or potassium acetate. precipitated and then isolated by filtration and drying.
It has been found that the addition of a buffer which adjusts the pH of the solution to 5 to 8 and 6 to 7 beforehand to the reaction mixture during precipitation or to the dye pastes or powders has a beneficial effect by reducing side reactions. In particular, the elimination of the chlorine atoms bound to the triazine ring as a result of hydrolysis can thus be avoided.
Suitable buffers for this purpose are e.g. B. Mixtures of mono- and dialkali salts of phosphoric acid in question.
The reaction can be carried out in the presence of an acid-binding agent, e.g. B. sodium carbonate, sodium hydroxide or potassium hydroxide, make. In practice, however, it will be appropriate to use the oxy compound, respectively. the sulfonic acid before conversion into the corresponding alkali salt, whereupon normally no additional acid-binding agent is required.
The new dyes obtained by the process according to the invention are more soluble in water than the corresponding dyes which do not have any substituents of the present type on a nitrogen atom on the triazine ring. The new dyes have a remarkably high affinity for olle which is dyed from neutral or weakly acidic dyebaths in reddish-blue to greenish-blue shades of high light and wash fastness.
