Centrifugal pump with electromotive control The present invention relates to a centrifugal pump with electromotive control comprising a pump housing, a pump wheel rotating therein,
and a short-circuited AC motor disposed entirely adjacent to the pump housing and the liquid circulating therein,
the stator of this AC motor having the shape of a cap attached to the pump housing while the rotor of the AC motor is connected to the pump die wheel so that it forms with this wheel a rotating element provided with a bearing device by means of which this element is
mounted to rotate on a fixed shaft screwed into the bottom of the hat-shaped stator and supported by the pump housing, this shaft being provided with an extension by means of which the bottom of a casing surrounding the rotor of the electromotor and having the shape of a cylinder with a bottom at one end and an outwardly directed flange at the other end,
is clamped tightly against the bottom of the stator by the shaft screwed into this bottom, while the casing flange is clamped tightly between shoulders on the pump housing and the edge of the stator hatch opening of the causes the stator to be attached to the pump housing. This pump is charac terized in that the pump impeller has an outer diameter
larger than the rotor and has its greatest circumference near the casing flange radially outside the casing cylinder.
The previously known centrifugal pump assemblies of the type mentioned have the drawback that the solid particles which may accompany the liquid enter the small space between the rotor of the electromotor and the fixed casing protecting the stator of the motor for the liquid,
and in this space these particles can cause damage to the casing and the rotor and even cause the latter to jam.
The present invention makes it possible to eliminate these drawbacks.
The appended drawing represents, schematically and by way of example, an embodiment of the pump according to the invention, FIG. 1 is an axial section through the pump, and.
fig. 2 is an axial section, at right angles to that of FIG. 1.
The pump shown is provided with a pump housing 1 comprising an inlet duct 2 with a connection socket 2c8, an outlet duct 3 with a connection socket 3a,
and an upwardly directed opening which is closed by means of a cap 4 serving as a housing for a short-circuited AC motor. The bonnet 4 is screwed into the opening of the pump housing 1 by means of threads 5.
This cap encloses the stator 6, and its windings 7, of the AC motor. The upwardly directed wall of the cap 4 is for view of a stud 8 directed inwardly traversed by a bore 9. This bore 9 receives the upper end of a fixed vertical shaft 10, the lower end of which is inserted. in a hole 11 in the pump housing 1.
The shorted rotor 12 of the motor and a pump wheel 13 located under the rotor are fixed on a support sleeve 14 by means of which the rotor and the pump wheel are mounted to be able to rotate on the fixed shaft 10.
The outer edge of a flange 15 directed towards the outside of a casing is tightly clamped between the pump housing 1 and the cap 4. The casing is provided with a cylindrical part 16 which extends between the rotor. 12 and the stator 6 and the upper end of which is connected to a bottom 17.
In the bottom 17 of the casing there is a central hole through which the shaft 10 passes. The bottom 17 of the casing is tightly clamped against the stud 8 by means of a spacer ring 18 which bears against a shoulder 19 on shaft 10, thus forcing bottom 17 against stud 8 when a nut 20 screwed onto the upper end of shaft 10 is tightened to secure the shaft to cap 4.
As can be seen in the drawing, the pump wheel 13 has an outer diameter larger than that of the rotor 12 and is located, with its largest circumference, near the flange 15 of the casing 15-17 radially to the exterior of the cylindrical portion 16 of the casing.
It follows that the centrifugal force during the operation of the pump prevents solid particles, which could accompany the pumped liquid, from entering the narrow slot between the impeller,
pump 13 and flange 15 radially inward into the liquid chamber in the cylindrical part 16 of the casing around the pump wheel hub and thence into the narrow slot between the rotor 12 and the cylinder part 16 of the casing where such solid particles could damage the casing and the rotor and even block the latter.
In the upper part of the shaft 10, there is provided an axial duct 21 which is introduced into the end surface of the shaft located outside the cap 4 and which can be closed hermetically by means of a threaded plug 22 or all other shuttering device, for example a decompressor.
The inner end of the duct 21 is connected to a radial bore 23 in the shaft 10, this bore entering an annular groove 24 on the inner side of the spacer ring 18. One or more radial bores which communicate with the upper end of the space surrounded by the casing 15-17 and with the interior of the pump housing 1, the inlet 2 and the outlet 3 extend from the groove 24.
The pumped liquid can therefore rise into the interior of the casing 15-17 and penetrate between the spacer ring 18 and the support sleeve 14 to lubricate the contact surfaces of the shaft 10 and of the support sleeve 14.
Should air collect in the upper end of the casing 15-17 enough to prevent the liquid from reaching the seal between the spacer ring 18 and the support sleeve 14,
this air is easily evacuated in order to allow satisfactory lubrication by removing the plug 22 so that the air which has collected in the casing can escape into the atmosphere through the conduits 21 and 23-25.
As will be seen in fig. 2, an opening 26 is provided in the outer wall of the pump housing 1, which determines the outlet duct 3. This opening is introduced into the duct 3 upstream of the entry of the spaces between the vanes of the pump impeller. 13.
In the opening 26 is introduced a biconvex lens 27 which is held closely in the opening 26 by means of sealing rings 28 and a nut ring 29.
In the embodiment shown, an analogous opening 30 is provided diametrically opposite the opening 26 in the outer wall of the pump housing 1 which determines the duct 3, and in this opening is also introduced a biconvex lens 31 retained by sealing rings 32 and a nut ring 33.
The focal length of the lenses 27 and 31 is somewhat less than the distance between the respective lenses and the ends of the spaces between the vanes of the pump wheel 13, which are located in front of the openings 26 and 30, respectively, so that when light, for example from a flashlight, is projected through a lens,
it is possible to observe by the light transmitted through the liquid the rotating pump wheel 13, considerably enlarged through the other lens so that the direction of rotation of the pump wheel 13 is easily checked when the motor has been connected to an alternating current circuit.
Instead of arranging the openings 26, 30 diametrically facing each other, they can be arranged next to each other in the outer wall of the outlet duct 3, or an opening can be arranged in the position shown and the other at another suitable location in an outer wall of the pump housing 1, for example in an outer wall of the inlet duct 2,
preferably in the vicinity of the opening in the outer wall of the outlet duct, so that light can pass through the spaces between the vanes to the last mentioned opening.
