Method for manufacturing heads for magnetic sound devices and magnetic sound device head manufactured according to this method The patent relates to a method for manufacturing heads for magnetic sound devices for recording or reproducing magnetic recordings, each of which contains at least two core parts made of sintered oxidic ferromagnetic material, between which a useful gap is provided, which is filled with glass,
which serves as a non-magnetic material to protect the useful gap and at the same time for the mechanical connection of the two core parts, and also on magnetic sound device heads manufactured according to this process.
When manufacturing such heads, it is important to ensure that the magnetic resistance that the useful gap introduces into the ferromagnetic circuit is as large as possible, so that the largest possible part of the magnetic flux emanates from the signals magnetically recorded on a suitable carrier , flows through the ferromagnetic circuit. For this purpose, the gap height should be as small as possible for a given head width.
In order to correctly determine the properties of the head and also with regard to reproducibility, however, the gap height should also be precisely determined.
A method has already been described in which two mirror-image symmetrical parts are assumed, with a glass film being attached between the precisely machined, for example polished, gap surfaces, the thickness of which is a few percent greater than the final desired gap width, after which the whole is up to heated to soften the glass and then pressed together at this temperature under such a pressure that the correct gap width is achieved after the glass has hardened.
In practice, however, it turns out that, assuming two mirror-inverted symmetrical sections, the accuracy of the final gap height to be achieved is limited by the inaccuracies due to the not exactly symmetrical position of the halves, whereby it should be considered that the The two halves must be fixed in relation to one another at temperatures between 500 and 1000 C, and a layer of molten glass is present between the two halves.
The purpose of the method according to the invention is to remedy this disadvantage by starting from two parts, each provided with at least one precisely machined surface part, that the parts are also arranged in such a way that these surface parts are placed in between a glass film against each other, the thickness of this film is a few percent greater than the final desired gap width, and in the direction of the gap height one surface part protrudes beyond the other on both sides, so that the whole achieved until the softening of the.
Glass is heated and then pressed together at this temperature under such a pressure that after hardening of the glass the correct gap width is achieved, and that finally, after the whole has cooled down, the guide surface of the head is formed by precise processing, whereby for the determination the gap height is assumed to be the surface part which has the smaller dimensions in the direction of the gap height.
The mentioned, described method is explained in more detail after standing with reference to FIG. 1 of the accompanying drawing and the method according to the invention with reference to FIGS. 2, 3 and 4 of these drawings. Fig. 1 shows a section through a magnetic sound device head, which is produced by the method already described.
With 1 and 2, two core parts made of sintered oxidic ferromagnetic material are referred to, between which a useful gap 3 is provided, which is filled with glass 4, the non-magnetic material to protect the useful gap and at the same time for mechanical connec tion of the two core parts serves. A closing yoke is denoted by 5, which together with parts 1 and 2 forms the ferromagnetic circuit of the head.
In the illustrated embodiment, the coil 6 is provided on the core part 5.
It is assumed that two identical parts 1 and 2 were used in the manufacture. The original shape of these parts and their position in relation to one another after the glass has hardened are indicated with dashed lines. The hatched parts are then removed by grinding, for example by polishing. Despite the accuracy with which this processing can be carried out, the gap height indicated by h is not set within narrow limits due to the uncertainty of the mutual position of the two parts, which can only be controlled to a relatively low degree.
In addition, parts 1 and 2 can be twisted against each other, which of course also affects the accuracy of the gap height.
In the method according to the invention, which is explained in more detail with reference to FIG. 2, for example, these disadvantages do not occur. It is assumed that two sections 7 and 8, which are each seen with a precisely machined surface part 9 and 10 ver. A glass film is attached between the surfaces 9 and 10, the thickness of which is a few percent greater than the final desired gap width. The surface 9 is larger than the surface 10 in the direction of the gap height. The whole is heated until the glass softens and at this tempera ture is compressed under such a pressure that the correct gap width is achieved after hardening.
It is clear that the magnitude of the force and the time it takes to act depend on the properties of the glass used, on the diameter of the magnet core at the point of the useful gap and also on the temperature at which the force is exerted.
It turns out that when using sintered oxidic ferromagnetic material for the core parts of the magnetic sound head, the glass adhesion achieved in this way has a strength which is of the same order of magnitude as that of the core parts themselves.
It should be noted that it is advisable to use glass whose coefficient of expansion for the operating temperature of the magnetic sound head is as exactly as possible the same as the coefficient of expansion of the magnetic resonance material, for example differs from it by no more than 5%, but preferably glass, whose coefficient of expansion is im the entire temperature range between the operating temperature of the magnetic head and the temperature at which the glass begins to soften is as exactly as possible equal to the expansion coefficient of the ferromagnetic material,
for example, differs from it by no more than 10 liters.
After the whole has cooled down sufficiently, the guide surface 14 is produced in that the parts 12 and 13 indicated by hatching in the figure are removed with the aid of precise machining, for example by polishing. The surface 14 'of the part 8 is used as the alignment surface for this processing. The height h 'of the part 8 is precisely adjustable. Due to the fact that the upper surface part 9 protrudes beyond the surface part 10 in the direction of the gap height on both sides, the height h 'of part 8 is always the height of the useful gap, regardless of the position of part 7 in relation to part 8 ( provided of course the surface part 1O lies within the surface part 9).
After the processing of the surfaces 15a and 15b of the parts 7 and 8, a closing yoke provided with a coil is finally applied to these surfaces.
It is expedient to start from two pieces, each of which is provided with two precisely machined surfaces, along which the pieces are placed against each other. In Fig. 3, two of the like sections are designated 16 and 17. Each section is provided with two precisely machined upper surface parts 18 and 19 or 20 and 21. The glass film 4 is attached between the surfaces 18 and 20.
It now turns out that after heating until the glass has softened, not only the surfaces 18 and 20 are attached to one another by the glass film, but also that the surfaces 19 and 21 have grown together through recrystallization and diffusion processes, whereby the magnetic resistance of this last transition becomes negligibly small. To increase the strength of this latter connection, a small glass rod can be arranged in a groove 22 in one of the parts 16 or 17 (in the figure in part 17), which also softens when heated and creates a strong bond at this point.
In this exemplary embodiment, the non-magnetic material 4 made of glass is not limited to the useful gap, but also fills a part of the space which is enclosed by the core parts 16 and 17. Such an amount of glass 23 gives the core in the vicinity of the useful gap an additional reinforcement, which also results in the possibility of reducing the height of the useful gap to a desired very small value by grinding, without there being any risk of the strength of the circle in the vicinity of the useful gap is considerably reduced.
This additional amount of glass can be attached in a simple manner, for example by arranging a small glass rod on the inside of the ferromagnetic core parallel to and at a small distance from the useful gap before heating (the rod is shown schematically in the figure by a dashed line Circle indicated). During the heating, the glass comes to flow and forms a layer as shown in the figure.
Here too, the surface part 18 projects beyond the surface part 20 on both sides. It is evident that such a relationship is in no way necessary for the surfaces 19 and 21, which are otherwise considerably larger than the surfaces 18 and 20. The fact that for the section to which the surface parts 18 and 19 belong, in the present case the section 16, a flat piece of material is used whose dimension in the direction of the gap height is greater than the corresponding dimension b of a profiled section, in the present case of the part 17 is achieved by itself, d'ass the upper surface part 18 protrudes over the surface part 20,
while, in addition, only one of the sections needs to be subjected to more detailed processing, that is to say the processing for producing the space 24 and the groove 22.
Finally, the guide surface 27 is generated by grinding, d'ass the hatched parts 25 and 26 removed. The surface 27 'of the part 17 is used as the alignment surface for this processing. If desired, the hatched parts 28a and 28b can also be ground away. The coil of the magnetic sound head can be provided on both part 16 and part 17.
4, a method is described ben, in which two sections 29 and 30 are assumed, which are each provided with two precisely worked surface dividers 31 and 32 or 33 and 34. Now, however, a glass film is attached between each pair of surfaces, and not only is surface 33 smaller than surface 31 in the direction of the gap height, but also surface 34 is smaller than surface 32. Here, too, section 29 consists of a flat piece of material, its The dimension in the direction of the gap height is greater than the corresponding dimension of the profiled section 30.
After heating, the parts 35, 36, 37 and 38 shown hatched on both sides are now removed by precise machining, the surfaces 39 'and 40' of the section 30 serving as alignment surfaces. The whole is now provided with two guide surfaces 39 and 40.
The structure thus obtained is then sawn up along a plane 41, so that two core parts are created, each of which can be supplemented by a closing yoke provided with a coil.
It should also be noted that the structure can also be sawed through along one or more surfaces perpendicular to the direction of the gap length, for example along surfaces 42 and 43. In this way, several core parts can be made from a part produced by the method. Of course, the same procedure can be used for the Ge form according to FIGS.
