Description

Viscose sponge and process for its manufacture
The known viscose sponges, which are intended for use in personal hygiene or in the household, have an outer skin which, although it has a smaller number of coarse pores, is otherwise of the same texture and density as the interior of the sponge. When using such sponges in floor cleaning devices, such as scrubbers, etc., it has been shown that the sponges tear easily. In particular, the outer skin cannot cope with the stresses to which it is exposed when it is trapped in the cleaning devices.
Attempts have been made to protect the particularly stressed sides of the sponges by applying paints, e.g. B. collodion wool, rubber solution and the like to reinforce. But these non-sponging agents peel off easily. They also form an almost water-impermeable layer and prevent the sponge from being flushed through.
It has now been found that viscose sponges which are provided with an outer skin made from viscose made of regenerated cellulose for their reinforcement do not show these disadvantages. To produce such an outer skin, z. B. in such a way that the hollow forms in which the sponges are produced are smeared with a viscose with a higher cellulose content than that of the mass before the actual sponge mass is introduced. The molds are then filled with the sponge mass, whereupon the contents of the molds are decomposed in a manner known per se. The thickness and density of the outer skin depends on the concentration of the viscose, its ripeness and the thickness of the spread. By choosing the appropriate conditions, fine to leather-like outer skins can be achieved as required.
This reinforcement of the outer skin can also be achieved by spreading viscose on sponges that have already formed, the cellulose content of the spread being higher than that of the sponges coated with it, these sponges then being placed again in a decomposition bath.
It is expedient to choose viscose with a relatively high cellulose content of z. B. a composition 10: 6.8 cellulose: alkali.
PATENT CLAIMS
I. Viscose sponge, characterized in that it has an outer skin made from viscose and made from regenerated cellulose, which serves to reinforce it.
II. Process for the production of a viscose sponge according to claim I, characterized in that a viscose with a cellulose content of more than 9% is used to produce the outer skin.
SUBCLAIMS
1. The method according to claim II, characterized in that a hollow shape with the viscose for the outer skin is painted, then the hollow shape is filled with the viscose for the part of the sponge enclosed by the outer skin, whereupon the whole is coagulated and decomposed.
2. The method according to claim II, characterized in that a finished viscose sponge is covered with a layer of the viscose for the outer skin and this layer is coagulated and decomposed by placing it in a decomposition bath.
