A 400 ml glass flask is fitted with a stirrer, thermometer, funnel with stopcock and condenser. 35 ml of a 1N solution of hydrochloric acid and 3.89 g of N, N-dimethyl-p-phenylene-diamine are added thereto and the mixture is stirred until complete dissolution, then a solution of 17.5g of zinc chloride in 25ml of water.
With effective stirring, a solution of 13.5 g of sodium thiosulphate in 30 ml of water, at approximately 251 ° C. is added to the mixture. Then approximately 1 / a of a solution is poured into the flask. of 8 g of sodium dichromate in 15 ml of water and the reaction mixture is heated as quickly as possible to 40o C.
