<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

Friction wheel lighter The subject of the invention is a friction wheel lighter, which consists of its own fuel container, the ignition mechanism and a two-part housing, of which a fixed part (tank housing part) contains the fuel container (tank), while the other, sliding housing part covering the ignition mechanism is on Tank housing part is arranged displaceably up to a stop in the axial direction of the flint tube in order to expose a lateral opening in the flint tube for inserting a new flint.
There are already friction wheel lighters with two-part housings in which one part is pivotably attached to the other, and the flint mechanism assembled into a unit - consisting of the wick cap lever designed as an actuating element, its bearing axis, the friction wheel with its driver, the tear-off spring influencing the wick lever, the control cams interacting with this and the flint tube with flint - is stored in the short upper side tabs of the tank housing part, whereby the position of the flint tube is secured in such a way that it is inserted through a bore in a cross piece,
which is attached to the side walls or tabs bent away from the tank housing and held by two separate housing tabs, each half clasping the flint tube. These known friction wheel lighters have the disadvantage that the assembly between the side walls or side tabs is cumbersome and the crosspiece and its fastening are necessary.
It is also known in friction wheel lighters to solder the flint tube to webs arranged between the open edges of the tank housing part, which results in an expensive manufacturing process. In friction wheel lighters with a one-piece housing, it is also known to arrange the entire flint mechanism in a slide frame, which is pushed out of the housing by the flint spring attached to the bottom of the housing in order to expose the side opening in the flint tube for inserting the flint after releasing a lock.
The slide frame is locked in the housing by a nose which is provided on a resilient tab punched out of the slide frame and which engages in a recess in the lighter housing. With this lighter, the flint is inserted when the flint spring is not tensioned, so that the insertion process can be carried out calmly and without effort. However, it has the disadvantage that it still has a relatively large number of components and is therefore still unfavorable in terms of production due to increased material expenditure and increased assembly times.
The friction wheel lighter according to the invention relates to a further development and simplification of the type of lighter listed in the first paragraph, which avoids the disadvantages of the lighters listed as known and consists in the fact that the tank housing part except the upper side tabs only to secure the position of the flint tube in the middle between the side walls of the sliding housing part two pipe clamps adapted to the shape of the flint tube and covering it protrude - which are bent from the same material of the tank housing part and two halves are connected to one another by spot welding - and a single spring-loaded pipe clamp between these pipe clamps
Tab is provided which engages with a nose arranged on it, known per se, in a recess in a side wall of the displaceable housing part for releasable locking of this housing part,
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
and that the displaceable housing part containing only the flint spring attached coaxially to the flint tube at its bottom has bent strips which are guided in grooves in the tank housing part.
The inventive combination of the friction wheel lighter elements is due to the web case of side walls and the cross piece for the storage and mounting of the ignition mechanism, the lighter weight compared to the known designs and the assembly more convenient, because the ignition mechanism is exposed and the installation without loading by a pretensioned spring can be done. The pipe clamps as holding members can be formed with the same punching and bending operations that are required for the manufacture of the tank housing part, so that the lighter is also cheaper during manufacture.
The displaceable housing part has a recess in a side wall with which it is locked by a nose of a resilient tab that engages in this but is known per se, the latter being arranged between the pipe clamps and advantageously consisting of one piece of material with them.
According to one embodiment, the pipe clamp halves opposite the nose or the tab are bent with their ends up to the side wall of the displaceable housing part, so that the latter is additionally guided by the bent ends.
Furthermore, only one of the bars of the displaceable housing part guided in the grooves of the tank housing part can advantageously be designed as a bent bar over the entire length of the side wall, while on the other side wall the bar is bent over only a part of the length in the upper area as a guide bar, the lower one Corner strikes against a groove delimitation in the tank housing part when the displaceable housing part is moved, so that it cannot be removed from the tank housing part.
An exemplary embodiment of the invention is shown in the drawing. Fig. 1 shows the friction wheel lighter in a central section with a partial view of the tank housing part. Figs. 2 and 3 are cross sections along the lines 11-II and III-III of Fig.l. FIG. 4 is a side view of the lighter and FIG. 5 is a diagram of the displaceable housing part.
The lighter housing consists of the fixed tank housing part 1, which contains a fuel container (tank) 2 which can be pushed into it from below, and a displaceable housing part 3 which covers the ignition mechanism and whose open longitudinal side has longitudinal edges bent to guide strips 4, 5 (FIG. 5), which store in the grooves 6, 7 of the tank container part 1 and with which the part 3 in part 1 is displaceable. The bar 4 extends only in the upper area of the part 3 and does not extend over its entire length.
The lower corner 4a of the strip 4 strikes when the housing part 3 is moved in the direction of arrow P to insert the flint against the lower end of the groove 6a, which forms the stop, whereby the movement of part 3 is limited so that it cannot be removed from part 1 . The groove 7 has no lower groove delimitation.
The ignition mechanism, which is assembled into a unit, consists of the wick cap lever 11 designed as an actuating element, its bearing axis 12, the friction wheel 13 with its coupling element 14, the tear-off spring 15 influencing the wick lever, the control cams 16 interacting with this, the flint tube 17 and the flint 18 The ignition mechanism is mounted with the bearing axis in side tabs 2.1 of the tank housing part 1 and is secured in its position with pipe clamps 22, 23 protruding therefrom and engaging the flint tube 17.
The pipe clamps 22, 23 are punched with the tank housing part 1 from a piece of sheet metal and are simultaneously deformed with this. The clamp halves are connected to one another at their points of contact at 24 by spot welding, whereby the tank housing part 1 is also very stable via the clamp webs 25. The pipe clamp 22 grasps the flint tube 17 at its opening 19 for inserting the flint 18. The ends of the clamp halves 22a and 23a are bent against the side wall 3a, so that the part 3 is pushed at the ends of the clamp halves 22a, 23a is additionally performed.
The tank housing part 1 also has a tab 26 between the pipe clamps 22, 23, which springs against the side wall 3b and at its upper end has a nose 27 which engages in a corresponding recess 28 in part 3 and locks it. Of course, the tab 26 with the nose 27 is advantageously also punched and shaped with the tank housing part 1 from a piece of sheet metal.
In the displaceable housing part 3, the flint spring 29 is fastened coaxially to the flint tube 17 in the bottom 3c and moves along with the part 3 when it is moved in the flint tube 17.
Renewing the flint is carried out in a simple manner in the present version of the lighter. The nose 27 is pushed back through the recess 28 with the finger, whereby the part 3 can be displaced in the direction of the arrow P until the corner 4a strikes the groove end 6a. As a result, the opening 19 of the flint tube 17 is easily accessible, since the flint spring has also withdrawn behind the opening 19. Once the stone 18 has been inserted, it is pressed against the bottom 3c until the nose 27 snaps into the recess 28. The flint spring was tensioned and presses the stone 18 against the friction wheel 13, whereby the lighter is operational again.
The details of the invention are not restricted to the exemplary embodiment shown and can

be modified constructively within the scope of the invention.
