Solche magnetischen Speicher finden u. a. in Rechenmaschinen und auto matischen Piloten Verwendung.

Process for producing a magnetic core with an almost rectangular hysteresis loop Magnetic cores with an almost rectangular hysteresis loop are important for various applications. Cores of this type are used, inter alia, for so-called magnetic memories (see, for example, W. N. Papian, Proceedings of the I. R. E. April 1952, pp. 475-478 and D. R. Brown and E. Albers-Schoenberg Electronics April 1953, pp. 146-149). Such magnetic memory find u. a. Use in calculating machines and automatic pilots.
These cores are also used in magnetic circuits.
The measure, which indicates how far the shape of the hysteresis loop approaches the rectangular shape, can be expressed quantitatively in various ways. A common measure is, for example, the quotient
EMI0001.0012
. To explain the meaning of the quotient mentioned, reference is made to FIG. 1, which is a schematic representation of part of a saturation magnetization curve. In this figure, Br represents the remanent induction, while B, 1 represents the induction at which the hysteresis loop is just closing.
In practice, it is often difficult to measure B "1 with great accuracy. However, an approximately correct value for B ,, 1 results from the fact that the mean value of the inductions after partial magnetization or partial demagnetization (with intermittent Saturation) is taken, the two inductions being measured at the same field strength, which is selected so that the inductions mentioned differ by more than 10/9, but less than 3114.
This method was also used in the measurements made in making the present invention; a ballistic galvanometer was used for these measurements (see Bozorth, Ferromagnetism p. 843). If the quotient is mentioned here, it is always assumed that it
EMI0001.0025
is measured on an annular magnet core with a constant cross-section of the ferromagnetic material over the entire circumference of the ring and with an outer diameter that is at most 1.6 times the inner diameter.
The measure, which indicates how far the shape of the hysteresis loop approaches the rectangular shape, can also be expressed by means of the so-called squareness ratio (RS) ",". For the significance of this variable, reference is made to the literature mentioned above.
For the sake of completeness, a brief explanation follows with reference to FIG. 2, likewise a schematic representation of part of a magnetization curve, which relates to a case in which the demagnetization was started before the magnetic saturation was reached. The size (Ra) ". ,,, is called
EMI0001.0041
Are defined. The quotient
EMI0001.0042
is a function of the applied greatest field strength Hm.
It turns out that this quotient has a maximum value for a certain value of H "", which usually differs little from the coercive force H ,,. This maximum value of the quotient is indicated by the symbol (Rs) ma. The measurements of B (Hm) and - B (_ TH-) required to determine (R9) ",,, can also be carried out again with the aid of a ballistic galvanometer will.
Ring-shaped magnetic cores with a constant cross-section of the magnetic material over the entire circumference of the ring and an outer diameter that is a maximum of 1.6 times the inner diameter were also used as measuring objects. The uses of ferromagnetic materials with an almost rectangular hysteresis curve are mostly high-frequency alternating currents, and it is therefore important to limit the occurrence of eddy currents as much as possible.
When using ferromagnetic alloys, this can be done to a certain extent in that the magnetic core is made up of very thin layers of the ferromagnetic material that are isolated from one another. However, it is often very difficult to build cores with an almost rectangular hysteresis loop from these thin layers. It is therefore advantageous at these high frequencies and even necessary at even higher frequencies to use magnetically soft, iron (III) oxide-containing materials with a spinel structure.
These substances already have a very low electrical conductivity.
For the usability of the magnetic cores in question for magnetic memories and magnetic circuits, it is also an essential condition that the coercive force is low (preferably not higher than 10 Oersted and even lower than 5 Oersted), because otherwise the electromagnetic losses are too high .
According to the invention it has been found that magnet cores with an almost rectangular hysteresis loop, whereby the conditions (R6) ″, a,> 0.6 and H, <4 Oersted are met, can be achieved by using mixed crystals with a spinel structure with the Overall formula Ni., Mg "_1_Y, ZnyFe20.1 can be produced, where x = 0.6 to 0.8, y = 0.1 to 0.3 and x + y = 0.7 to 0.9, and the mixed crystals are produced in that a convertible into the mentioned mixed crystals,
oxidic compounds of nickel, magnesium, zinc and iron in the required weight ratio containing substance mixture is heated in a gas atmosphere with an oxygen content of more than 50 percent by volume to a temperature of 1375 to 1475 C.
Example A mixture of magnesium carbonate, nickel carbonate, iron oxide and zinc oxide is ground for 8 to 10 hours in pure alcohol or anhydrous benzene and then pre-burned for one hour at 900 C in air. After cooling, the reaction product is ground in pure alcohol for some time, for example 2 hours. It is then pressed into a ring, and this ring is sintered in oxygen at approximately 1450 C.
