Additional patent to the main patent no. 323611 Process for the production of 2-nitro-diphenylamines The subject of the main patent is a process for the production of dyes, which pull up from aqueous suspension on acetate artificial silk, synthetic polyamide fibers and polyester fibers in pure greenish yellow tones and their colorations through are characterized by good to very good fastness to light, washing, sublimation and smoke gas.
The dyes are derivatives of 1-amino-2-nitro- # benzene-4-sulfonic acid amide. The process for their preparation consists in that 1 mole of a 1-halo-2-nitro-benzene-4-sulfonic acid amide, which is further substituted on the nitrogen atom of the sulfonic acid amide group by optionally substituted alkyl, aralkyl or aryl, with 1 mole of a primary or secondary aliphatic,
cycloaliphatic or araliphatic amine or with 1 mol of a mixture of two or more such amines.
The present invention now relates to a process for the preparation of 2-nitro-diphenylamines which have the formula
EMI0001.0026
correspond, in which x is the direct carbon bond or a methylene, ethylene, vinylene, oxygen, sulfur, sulfoxide, sulfone, azo or methylene oxygen bridge, y is the direct bond, oxygen,
an imino group optionally substituted by an aliphatic radical and R a cyclic or at least 5 carbon atoms have the aliphatic radical or, if y represents an imino group, together with y denotes a heterocyclic radical, and in which the nuclei A and B are water-soluble making groups can carry further substituents.
The process according to the invention for the preparation of these substances consists in that 1 mol of a 1-halo-2-nitro = benzene-4-sulfonic acid derivative of the formula
EMI0001.0047
where Hal is chlorine or bromine and R has a cyclic or at least 5 carbon atoms the aliphatic radical or, if y represents an imino group, together with y denotes a heterocyclic radical, expediently in the presence of an acid-binding agent,
with 1 mol of an aminobenzene of the formula which is free of water-solubilizing groups
EMI0001.0060
or with 1 mole of a mixture of two or more such aminobenzenes.
The new dyes have a poor absorption capacity from aqueous dispersion, but they are very suitable for dyeing masses intended for spinning that are dissolved in organic solvents, for example acetate rayon in the mass. Since they are readily soluble in organic solvents, for example in acetone, the spinning of the masses colored with them presents no technical difficulties.
The spin dyeings obtained are fast to light, washing, over-dyeing, smoke gas, dry cleaning and peroxide fast. The new dyes can also be used for 'coloring plastics of all kinds and for coloring paints.
The reaction of the 1-halogen-2-nitrobenzene-4-sulfonic acid derivatives with the aminobenzenes is expediently carried out at an elevated temperature. The preferred reaction medium is water or an organic solvent, for example ethanol, benzyl alcohol, benzene, toluene, etc. The addition of a suitable acid-binding agent, for example sodium acetate, sodium carbonate or sodium bicarbonate, has a beneficial effect in most cases on condensation.
The same services are also provided by an excess of the amine or amines used.
The radicals R, which can form a heterocyclic ring together with y, are the radicals of the following nitrogen heterocycles: thiadiazolidine, triazole, triazoline, triazalidine, tetrazole, oxazolidine, thiazolidine, imid'azoline, imidazolid'in, pyrrole, Pyrrolidine, oxadiazine, thiadiazine,
Pentoxazoline, pentoxazolidine, morpholine, homomorpholine, penthiazoline, m-thiazane, thiamorpholine, pyrimidine, pyrazine and piperidine.
The 1-halo-2-nitro-benzene-4-sulfonic acid derivatives used as starting materials can be prepared from 1-halo-2-nitrobenzenes by known methods by introducing the substituted sulfonic acid radical or by nitrating the 1-halobenzene Prepare -4-sulfonic acid derivatives.
Of particular interest are 1-halo-2-nitroabenzene-4-sulphonic acid aryl esters or arylamides or cycloalkylamides or alkylarylamides or morpholides or oxazolidides or homomorpholide, 4-halo-3- nitro-1,1'-diphenylsulfones and 4,4'-dihalo-3,3'-dinitro-1,1'-diphenylsulfones.
The aminobenzenes of the composition used according to the invention
EMI0002.0067
can carry further substituents in addition to water-solubilizing groups. In particular, they can carry alkyl, aryl, aralkyl or cycloalkyl radicals, halogen atoms, trifluoromethyl groups or acylamino groups.
For example, 4 amino-l, l'-diphenyl ether or thioether, 4-amino-4'-butyl-1,1'-d'iphenyl ether or thioether, 4-amino-4'-octyl-1,1 ' -diphenyl ether or thioether, 4-amino 4 '- cyclohexyl - 1, l' - diphenyl ether or thioether, 4-amino-2 ', 4'-dichloro-1,1'-diphenyl ether or -thio ether, 4 -Amino-2 ', 4', 5'-trichloro-1,
1'-diphenyl ether or thioether, 4-amino-1 = benzylphenyl ether or thioether and their 2-halogen derivatives, also 4-amino-1,1'-diphenylmethane, 4-amino-1,1'-diphenylethane, 4 -Amino-1,1'-stilbene, 4-amino-2,2'-dichloro-1,1'-stilbene, 4-amino-4'-acetylamino-1,1'-diphenyl, 4- Amino-4'-acetylamino-3,3'-dimethoxy-1,1'-diphenyl,
1-Amino-3-phenoxymethyl-4-methylbenzene, 4-amino-1,1'-azobenzene or 4-amino-3,2'-dimethyl-1,1'-azobenzene are used. Of particular interest are those amines which are substituted by alkyl radicals which may contain ether groups.
In the following examples, parts are to be understood as meaning parts by weight; the temperatures are given in degrees Celsius.
Example 1 10.5 parts of 1-chloro-2-nitro-, benzene-4-sulfonic acid phenylamide, 10.1 parts of 4-amino-4'-octyl-1,1'-diphe- Nyl ether, 3 parts of sodium bicarbonate and 50 parts of water are heated to the boil while stirring. The resulting emulsion turns deep yellow; it is cooled after 51 / s hours and acidified to the Congo with hydrochloric acid. After some time, the dye formed solidifies and can be isolated by filtering off and washing with water. Recrystallized from ethanol, it melts at 151 to 152.
The new dye dyes acetate artificial silk in the mass in very real reddish yellow tones.
Example 2 In Example 1, the 10.5 parts of 1-Corbol-2-nitro-benzene-4-sulfonic acid phenylamide are replaced by 11.7 parts of 1-bromo-2-nitro-benzene-4-sulfonic acid morpholide and 10.1 parts of 4-amino-4 .'-octyl-1,1'-diphenyl ether by 11.2 parts of 4-amino-2-chloro-4'-tert. butyl 1,1'-diphenyl ether, a yellow dye is obtained, which melts at 136-139.
The table below lists further dyes which can be obtained as described in Examples 1 and 2. They correspond to the formula
EMI0002.0128
and are characterized by the radical R., and by the compound RiH on which the radical R1 is based, by their melting point and by the color of their solutions in acetone.
