Process for the preparation of water-insoluble monoazo dyes The present invention provides a process for the preparation of water-insoluble monoazo dyes of the formula
EMI0001.0004
wherein R1 is a halogen atom or an oxy group or a low molecular weight alkoxy, oxyalkoxy or alkoxyalkoxy radical, R is an oxy group or a low molecular weight alkoxy,
Oxyalkoxy or alkoxyalkoxy radical, R, 3 denote the radical of a mono- or two-ring aromatic oxy compound coupled in ortho- or para-position to the oxy group, where the nucleus A can carry further substituents with the exception of water-solubilizing groups.
The process consists in that 1 mol of the diazo compound is obtained from an aminobenzene of the formula
EMI0001.0031
with 1 mol of a mono- or binuclear aromatic oxy compound coupling in the ortho or para position to the ory group and in the monoazo dye thus obtained, if both symbols R1 stand for halogen atom,
at least one of these halogen atoms is exchanged for an oxy group or a low molecular weight alkoxy, oxyalkoxy or alkoxyalkoxy radical. If only one of the symbols R1 in the monoazo dye obtained stands for a halogen atom, this can be exchanged for an oxy group or a low molecular weight alkoxy, oxyalkoxy or alkoxyalkoxy radical.
The preferred cyanuric halide is cyanuric chloride. The new monoazo dyes dye cellulose ester fibers (for example acetate and triacetate synthetic silk), synthetic polyamide fibers (for example nylon, perlon [registered trademark]), polyvinyl fibers and polyester fibers (for example terelene, dacron [registered trademarks]) in yellow to orange tones with excellent washfastness.
They are preferably applied from suspension to the fibers mentioned, advantageously in the presence of dispersing compounds and at elevated temperature. By mixing two or more dyes, the drawability of the dyes can be improved in individual cases.
If the monoazo dyes contain groups that enable metal to form complexes, the washfastness properties of the dyeings can be increased by aftertreating the dyeings with metal-releasing agents.
Some of the new dyes are also suitable for coloring paints, oils, synthetic resins or artificial fibers in the mass. Some also dye wool and natural silk.
Suitable mono- or binuclear aromatic oxy compounds coupling ortho or para to the oxy group are, for example, oxybenzenes, oxynaphthalenes, oxydiphenyls optionally substituted by halogen, alkyl, alkoxy, amino, alkylamino, dialkylamino and / or acylamino , Oxychinolines,
Oxyisoquinolines, oxychinoxalines, oxyquinazolines and oxycinolines. The coupling of the diazotized aminobenzene of the formula given with the mono- or two-ring aromatic oxy compounds coupling in the ortho or para position to the oxy group can be carried out in an acidic, neutral or alkaline medium.
Alcohols, for example methyl, ethyl, 2-oxyethyl, propyl, 2- or 3- are preferably used to replace one or both halogen atoms of the cyanuric group with one or two low molecular weight alkoxy, oxyalkoxy or alkoxyalkoxy radicals. Methoxypropyl, butyl and amyl alcohols. By simply boiling, if necessary in an alkaline medium,
the halogen atom can be replaced by an oxy group.
The new dyes are isolated by one of the usual basic operations, such as, for example, filtration, concentration of the solvent and Fil tration, distilling off the solvent and Filtra tion or precipitation from the solvent with a suitable agent and filtration.
In the examples below, the parts are parts by weight and the percentages are percentages by weight; the temperatures are given in degrees Celsius and the melting points are uncorrected. Example 1 A hydrochloric acid aqueous solution of 2- (4'-amino) - phenylamino-4,6-di- (butoxy) -1,3,5-triazine is mixed at 0 with a solution of 35 Parts of sodium nitrite in 175 parts of water are added.
The resulting diazo solution is filtered and allowed to run into a solution of 55 parts of 1-oxy-4-methylbenzene, 125 parts of sodium carbonate, 20 parts of sodium hydroxide and 1000 parts of water with thorough stirring at 5. When the coupling is complete, the precipitated yellow monoazo dye is filtered off, washed with water and dried. It can be recrystallized from alcohol or acetone.
The monoazo dye dissolves in ethyl acetate with a yellow color, in concentrated sulfuric acid with an orange color and dyes acetate artificial silk and synthetic polyamide fibers in yellow shades with excellent wash and seawater fastness. The colors are etchable and sublimation-fast. The above hydrochloric acid aqueous solution is prepared, for example, as follows: 92 parts of cyanuric chloride are suspended in a mixture of 500 parts of water and 500 parts of ice.
75 parts of 1-amino-4-acetylamino-benzene are added to the suspension with thorough stirring and the hydrogen chloride formed is neutralized by adding a solution of 20 parts of sodium hydroxide in 200 parts of water to the condensation mass in portions.
As soon as the pH of the suspension no longer changes, the condensation is over; 200 parts of butyl alcohol are then added to the mass in one go and refluxed, keeping it slightly alkaline by adding soda. They are left to cool here, the precipitated product is filtered off, washed with cold water and suspended in 1000 parts of 10% hydrochloric acid. The suspension is heated to the boil under reflux, complete solution occurring.
Dyes with similar properties are obtained if the 55 parts of 1-oxy-4-methylbenzene of the example are replaced by the equivalent amount of 1-oxy-4-tert-butyl-benzene, 1-oxy-4-tert-amyl -benzene, 1-oxy-4-chlorobenzene or 1-oxy-4-phenyl-benzene or the 173.5 parts of 2- (4'-amino) -phenylamino-4,6-di- (butoxy) -1 , 3,5-triazine is replaced by the equivalent amount of 2 - (4'-amino) -phenylamino-4,6-di - [(2'oxy) -ethoxy] -1,3,5-triazine.
In the table below, other valuable disperse dyes are described which can be prepared by the processes described. They correspond to the composition
EMI0002.0066
The meanings of R1, R, and R are given in the correspondingly labeled columns of the table. In the last column, the color tones of the dyeings on acetate rayon, synthetic polyamide fibers and polyester fibers are listed.

The solution is cooled to 0 with ice, diazotized with 50 parts of a 1N sodium nitrite solution, small amounts of impurities are filtered off and the diazo solution is combined with a solution of 10.5 parts of 1-oxy-3-decanoylamino-benzene in 150 Parts of pyridine, 75 parts of ice, 75 parts of water and 7 parts of 30% sodium hydroxide solution. After the coupling has ended, the mass is acidified to Congo with 200 parts of 301% hydrochloric acid. The dye precipitates in granular form, is filtered off, triturated with water, washed neutral and dried.
It dissolves easily in acetone.
Dyeing instruction A 100 parts of acetyl cellulose are mixed with 300 parts of a solvent mixture consisting of 93% acetone and 7% methanol and allowed to swell in it overnight. 1 part of the dye obtainable according to Example 17 is dissolved in 60 parts of the solvent mixture by simply shaking.
The acetyl cellulose solution is mixed with the dye solution and the whole is stirred in an open vessel until 60 parts of the solvent mixture have evaporated. 5 The colored mass is pressed into the spinning pot and spun in the usual way.
The strands obtained are colored pure yellow; the dyeings have excellent light, water, washing, soap bath, perspiration, peroxide bleach, peracetic bleach, solvent, overdyeing, rubbing, decatur, ironing and sublimation fastness and are also resistant to hydrosulfite, Oxalic acid and copper sulfate.
Dyeing instructions B A dyebath is prepared from 0.6 parts of the dye obtainable according to Example 1 and dispersed with the aid of Turkish red oil, 6 parts of a fatty alcohol sulfonate and 3000 parts of water, and 100 parts of nylon are added at room temperature into the bath, heats it to 80 within 1 hour and keeps it at 80 for 1 hour. After this time, the dyeing process is finished. The material to be dyed is taken out of the bath, rinsed and dried.
To improve the dispersion, the dye can be ground prior to the dyeing process using suitable wetting agents, dispersants or emulsifiers, preferably in the presence of inorganic salts, for example Glauber's salt. It can also be intimately mixed as an aqueous paste with a dispersing agent and converted into an easily dispersing dye powder by suitable drying.
