Use of tin compounds as pest control agents It has been found that organic residues on tin compounds of the formula
EMI0001.0002
wherein 1 to 2 of the radicals R1 to R4 aryl or aralkyl radicals which can be further substituted, in particular chlorinated, the remaining aliphatic or hydroaromatic radicals, develop excellent insecticidal and acaricidal effects.
The inven tion accordingly relates to the use of organic tin compounds of the above formula as pesticides. To support the effect, in addition to the active ingredients according to the invention, other insecticides and / or acaricides can also be present in the agent in question.
The organic tin compounds characterized by the above formula are for the most part oily liquids at ordinary temperature which can be converted into the usual forms of pesticide application for practical use. These include B. sprays in the form of aqueous emulsions or suitable for the preparation of the same. Pastes or powder mixtures, as well as powder or dust after the active ingredients have been applied to suitable carrier substances, sprayable solutions in organic solvents, etc. To produce these preparations, the usual methods and additives (such as e.g.
B. inert or, effective solid or liquid dustable or atomizable fillers or solvents, emulsifiers, wetting agents and binders, gases compressed into liquids, dyes and odorous substances) are used. The means produced in this way can be used in all areas of pest control, in particular insect and mite control for hygienic purposes; that means z. B. can be used in the control of these pests in living rooms and stables, in stored product protection and in plant protection.
The active ingredients characterized at the outset can be prepared by the processes known for the preparation of organic tin compounds, preferably by reacting the aryl or alkyl tin halides with the Grignard compounds of the further desired substituents. This process is explained using two examples: 1.
To a solution of p-chlorophenynagnesium bromide in absolute ether made from 57.6 g of p-chlorobromobenzene, 45.6 g of di-n-butyltin dichloride in a little absolute ether are added dropwise in such a way that the ether boils continuously. The mixture is then boiled for a further hour on the reflux condenser with stirring, cooled, poured onto ice, the ethereal layer is separated off and the aqueous layer is again extracted with ether. The combined ether solutions are dried and evaporated.
The residue gives 44.0 g of di-n-butyl-di-p-chlorophenyltin by vacuum distillation. Bp 172-173 (at 0.03 Torr.).
2. As described in Example 1, here the Grignard compound from p-chlorobromobenzene is reacted and worked up with the equivalent amount of triethyltin chloride in absolute ether. The ethereal solutions are combined, extracted with aqueous potassium fluoride solution, dried and distilled off. The obtained - triethyl-p-chlorophenyl tin boils at 100-103 (at 0.1 Torr.). Similarly, u. a. the in the following table be written, falling under the invention, mostly new active ingredients prepared and characterized by their Va kuumsiedpunkte.

03 <SEP> Torr The particular advantage of the means according to the invention consists in their good effectiveness against insects and at the same time against mites, which belong to the arachnids and against which many previously known insecticides unfold only insufficient effect. Individual representatives of the active ingredients according to the invention also have remarkable larvicidal and ovicidal effectiveness.
From the experiments described in the fol lowing, in which the active ingredients according to the invention are identified with the numbers in the table above, it can be seen that they perform very well in comparison with both the best insecticides known to date and the best special agents for mite control.
As a comparison substance for known insecticides, gamma-hexachlorocyclohexane (HCH) and dichlorodiphenyltrichloromethane (DDT) were selected, p-chlorophenylbenzene sulfate (PCPBS) was selected as a special acaricide.
