The present invention relates to a mechanism for controlling the movements of a machine member, in particular the needle holder or the conveyor of a sewing machine, producing the transformation. mation of digital signals in analogous displacements, with power amplification.
This mechanism is characterized by the fact that it comprises an oscillating shaft intended to be connected to a continuous energy source, at least one bell cam integral with a ratchet wheel, mounted in friction on said shaft and capable of locking. axially moving on it, an axial stop member co-operating with the working surface of said cam, this stop member being integral with said shaft, at least one articulated lever, in the form of an anchor, cooperating with said ratchet to prevent the 'advance of said cam, at least one electromagnet controlled by said digital signals and intended to bring said anchor into one or the other of its two working positions, such that the angular position of said cam by relative to the axial stop member,
and consequently its axial position, is different depending on whether one or the other of the arms of said anchor acts.
The appended drawing represents, by way of example, two embodiments of the object of the invention. Fig. 1 is a section taken on the line I-I of FIG. 2, of a simplified control mechanism so as to illustrate the principle of the invention.
Fig. 2 is an elevation view thereof.
Fig. 3 is a section similar to that of FIG. 1 - in another operating position. Fig. 4 is an elevational view of the mechanism in the same operating position as that of FIG. 3. Fig. 5 is an elevational view of a second embodiment of the object of the invention applied to the control of the movements of the needle holder or of the conveyor of a sewing machine, the cams being shown in positions axial differences in the upper and lower parts of the figure respectively.
Fig. 6 is a section taken along line VI-VI of FIG. 5. Figs. 7 and 8 are sections of two details of FIG. 6, on a larger scale. Fig. 9 is a section taken along line IX-IX of FIG. 10 of a multiplier device.
Fig. 10 is a side view. Fig. 11 is an elevational view of a detail of this device, and FIG. 12 is a section taken along line XII-XII of FIG. 11. The mechanism shown in fig. 1 to 4 comprises an oscillating shaft 1 connected to a continuous source of energy, not shown. This shaft performs oscillations of an eighth of a turn following arrow 2. It carries, mounted on it so as to be able to slide freely, a bell cam 3 integral with a ratchet wheel 4 having four teeth 4a.
Friction between the shaft 1 and the cam 3 is provided by a device shown in detail in FIG. 7, comprising two balls 5 and 6 arranged in a diametral passage 7 of the shaft 1 and subjected to the action of a coil spring 8 interposed between them, which tends to make them partially penetrate into one or the other. 'another of a series of eight longitudinal grooves 9 made in the central hole of the cam 3 and of the rock 4. Thanks to this arrangement, the cam, as far as it is left free, oscillates with the shaft 1 while being able to slide axially on it.
An axial stop member, consisting of a drum 10 carrying four pins 11 arranged 900 from each other, three of which are visible from the sides, is fixed on the shaft 1. A spring 12, partially shown, maintains the cam 3 applied against the dowels 11.
The mechanism further comprises a lever with two arms 13, in the form of an anchor, articulated on a fixed axis 14 and subjected to the action of a return spring 15 on the one hand and an electromagnet 16 d. 'somewhere else. The two arms of the lever 13 are terminated respectively by two nozzles 13a and 13b cooperating with the teeth 4a of the ratchet 4 to prevent the latter, and consequently the cam 3, from rotating with the shaft 1 in one direction while leaving it free to rotate with shaft 1 in the opposite direction.
When the lever 13 does not intervene and the cam 3 is left free to follow the shaft 1 in both directions of rotation, it remains in a determined relative angular position with respect to this shaft having either its bosses 3a applied against the pegs 11 which also oscillate with the shaft 1 (fig. 1 and 2), ie on the contrary the hollows situated between these bosses applied against these pegs (fig. 3 and 4). The axial position of the cam is different in the two cases. The cam 3 has a number of wise bos 39 equal to the number of teeth 4a of the ratchet wheel 4.
The position of the cam is determined by the anchor 13: depending on whether one or the other of the arms of the anchor has previously stopped the rock, the cam occupies one or the other of the two positions mentioned above. In fact, as long as the beak of the anchor which has just stopped the cam remains in contact with the ratchet, or comes into contact with it intermittently without the other beak intervening in the meantime, no change occurs. the angular position of the cam relative to the shaft. On the contrary, as soon as the other nozzle comes into action, it hooks in passing one of the teeth of the ratchet and stops the cam.
The shaft then completes its oscillation and thus moves angularly with respect to the cam until the balls 5 and 6 enter the following two grooves of the cam 3.
The pulses are sent to the electromagnet 16 by a digital program, that is to say a program providing information by all or nothing, carried by a perforated disc 17 driven step by step by a mechanism not shown. Depending on whether a brush 18 is facing a perforation or, on the contrary, a non-perforated part of the disc 17, the contact is open or closed and the electromagnet 16 supplied or not.
In order to prevent the formation of spark those at the program contacts, the machine also takes a switch 19 mounted in series with the program and controlled by a cam 20 rotating at a speed such that this switch closes the circuit for an instant. that the program contact is itself closed.
It should be noted that, while the beak 13b can remain in permanent contact with the ratchet 4, under the action of the return spring 15, allowing the cam to remain in the axial position shown in FIG. 4, the nozzle 13a cannot remain permanently applied against the ratchet because this would imply that the electromagnet must be able to fire for a period of a certain duration when in reality it only works by pulses.
Therefore, if it is desired that the cam remain in the axial position of fig. 2, it is necessary, at each oscillation of the shaft 1, to give an impulse to the electromagnet again, thus placing the nozzle 13a again in contact with the ratchet.
This mechanism will be applied advantageously to the control of the needle holder or the fabric transporter of a sewing machine for the production of stitches forming various patterns, in particular so-called embroidery stitches. However, in the example mentioned above, the mechanism has been simplified to illustrate the very principle of the invention.
In reality, the possibilities given by a single cam are insufficient, so the second embodiment of FIGS. 5 to 8 in which the mechanism comprises a stack of cams 3, mounted on a common shaft 1 in the same way as the cam 3 of the first embodiment. Each of these cams is secured to a ratchet 4. They are placed back to back in pairs and, between their working faces facing each other, are arranged spacers 21 mounted so as to be able to slide axially in drums 22 integral with shaft 1.
Thanks to this arrangement, the axial displacements of the different cams are added to finally be transmitted to a sleeve 23 which slides axially on the shaft 1. The height of the wise bos 3a is different for each cam so as to allow, by means of combinations, to obtain a large number of different displacement possibilities of the sleeve 23 for a small number of cams.
In the upper part of fig. 5, the cams have all been shown in their so-called low position, that is to say in the position in which the spacers 21 are facing the recesses located between the bosses 3a, while in the lower part of this figure, they have all been shown in their high position, that is to say in which the spacers 21 are located opposite the bosses 3a. The difference in the axial positions between the upper and lower parts of the sleeve 23 (FIG. 5) indicates the maximum amplitude of the movements of the latter.
In order to reduce the bulk, the electromagnets 16 have been distributed above and below the shaft 1, but each of them controls a different anchor 13, return springs acting on them on the other hand. . The core 24 of each electromagnet 16 carries, sliding axially in a hole 25 of this core, a plastic stopper 26, subjected to the action of a damping spring 27 (FIG. 8). These elastic bumpers absorb the impacts of the anchors on the electromagnets and furthermore play the role of the return spring 15 of the first embodiment.
Finally, the mechanism comprises a multiplier device with adjustable ratios interposed between the sleeve 23 and the output member of the mechanism, signed by 28; this output member, consisting of a sleeve, is itself connected to the controlled member, not shown. This device comprises a frame 29 in which are mounted so as to be able to oscillate around an axis 30 two butterflies 31 each having, on one of their faces, two housings 32 and 33, intended to receive respectively the end of a return spring 34 and the end of a pusher 35 secured to the other hand of the sleeve 23. The axial movements of the latter thus result in oscillating movements of the butterflies 31.
The latter each have, on their face opposite that of the housings 32 and 33, a semi-circular clearance 36 on which the end of a pusher 37 fixed to the axially sliding sleeve 28 bears. The movements of the butterflies are thus transmitted to the sleeve 28 in a gear ratio varying with the position of the pushers 37 on the tracks 36 of the butterflies. Indeed, the sleeve 28 can be rotated on itself, by means of a mo lette 38 keyed to it, so that the pous evenings 37 can be brought together or away from the articulation axes 30 of the butterflies.
The wheel 38 is held in place by nuts 39 screwed onto studs 40 taking in the fixed frame 29. These studs 40 pass through elongated openings 41, in an arc of a circle, formed in the wheel 38, which allows its rotation while limiting it. In the example of fig. 9 and 10, the ratio is
EMI0003.0019
the axes of the pushers 37 being located at the same distance from the articulation axis 30 as the axes of the pushers 35. The closer the pushers 37 are to the axis 30, the greater the amplitude of the axial movements of the sleeve 28 di minue. When the axis 30 is crossed, an inversion occurs, the sleeve 28 then moving in the opposite direction of the sleeve 23.
The return springs 34 then serve to maintain the butterflies applied against their respective pushers 35.
