Method of manufacturing a bar to be machined, bar to be machined resulting from this method and use of said bar The present patent comprises a method of manufacturing a bar to be machined having longitudinal channels, the bar to be machined resulting from this process. assigned and a use of the bar to be machined resulting from this process.
An example of carrying out the method defined by claim I is described below and the accompanying drawing illustrates an example of a bar resulting from this method, according to claim II, as well as an example of the use of this bar, according to claim III.
Fig. 1 is a partial axial section of a ballpoint pen point illustrating said example of use, and FIG. 2 is a cross section of FIG. 1 simultaneously showing said example of a bar to be machined.
To carry out the method according to claim 1, a profiled bar 1, 2 is introduced into a tube 3. This bar 1, 2 can be formed of a core 1 fitted with two diametrically opposed wings 2. This profiled bar could naturally have a completely different shape. It could, for example, have three or more wings and therefore have the shape of a star; it could also have a polygonal shape such as a lo sange. It could also be made from a tube that would be crushed so that it has a hollow central core and wings at the periphery of this core.
To allow the easy introduction of the profiled bar 1, 2 into the tube 3, the inside diameter of the latter is chosen to be a little larger than the part of greatest dimension of the bar 1, 2.
When the latter is in place in the tube 3, the latter is constrained, for example by passing it through a die, so as to close it sufficiently so that it traps the inner bar and forms with it a rigid assembly, capable of being machined as if it were a single part.
We see in fig. 2 of the drawing that the bar to be machined composed of the tube 3 and the core 1, 2 has longitudinal channels 4, between the wings 2, the core 1 and the internal wall of the tube 3.
Depending on the number, shape and dimensions of the channels that will be obtained in the bar to be machined, a web of appropriate profile will be chosen.
The bar to be machined having the section shown in fig. 2 finds a particularly advantageous use in the manufacture of ballpoint pen tips, by turning on an automatic lathe. To exit such a point from said bar, the side faces of this bar are turned to give them the desired shape and a housing 5 is formed at the end of this bar. This housing 5, which is intended to receive a ball 6, is a little larger than the web 1, 2 of said bar. As seen in fig. 1, this core 1, 2, and in particular its core 1, holds the ball 6 in the vicinity of the pole opposite to its tracing part.
To retain the ball 6 in the housing 5, the end of the tube 3 is naturally crimped around the equatorial zone of the ball 6.
Compared to the convex ball point pen points, in which the ball is fixed to the end of a point having a central channel, that which is shown in FIG. 1 of the drawing has the advantage of presenting a much more resistant ball seat.
In fact, in a point of a cana ballpoint pen (central, the ball is only supported in a few areas close to its equator and therefore easily deformable, while the ball of the point shown in fig. 1 being supported in the area of its pole opposite to the tracing part will not sink into its housing 5.
On the one hand, the pressures exerted on the ball while writing do not deform the seat of the ball 6 formed at the end of the core 1, 2, as in the case of balls which are only supported neighborhood of their equatorial zone. On the other hand, by using in particular a machining bar with a steel core, the seat of the ball will wear so slowly that the tip of the pen of the rer will be much longer than those in which the ball is at. the end of a central channel.
The tip shown in the drawing has, moreover, the advantage, compared to known tips, of surer a more favorable ink supply to the ball. In fact, in the tips of which the ball is at the end of a central channel, the ink is brought to the tracing part of the ball, from the central channel by narrow channels made in the seat of the ball, while in the point described, the wings 2, the profile of which thins outwards, move between them channels 4 which widen outwards and bring the ink into an annular space 7 which surrounds completely the equatorial zone of the ball.
