Arresting device preventing the fall of a suspended body Overhead or guillotine doors, as censors, hoists and mine sedans, as well as all other devices or devices constituting suspended and free bodies, abandoned to themselves, falling by following a vertical guide member or even such an inclined member, must be protected against the risk of a fall from the moment when their suspension means fail. In this case, it may be the breaking of a rope, a cable, a chain for example.
The purpose of the stop device according to the present invention is, in such a case, to oppose the untimely fall of the suspended body, the latter being guided by a member which can be vertical or inclined, forming a slide having two surfaces. opposite parallel lines, as is the case, for example, for the wings of a U-bar.
This device is characterized in that it comprises a profiled part at the upper part of which there is a point of articulation of the attachment of the suspension means, while it is itself articulated to the object suspended in a point located below the first, an elastic member bearing both on a part integral with the body and on the part tending to impart to it a rotational movement causing the introduction of a spout of the latter in one several lights perposed on one of the guide surfaces,
between which two parallel sides of the profiled part guide it when the two points of articulation are in alignment with the direction of the traction exerted by the suspension means, while at the nose inserted in a slot, the part rests on the guide surface opposite on one side, matching the direction. The appended drawing shows an embodiment of the object of the invention, given by way of example, in the case where the suspended body is a tilting door, for example such a door of a hall housing airplanes.
We see here one of the two stop devices of this door, which requires two, one at each end.
Fig. 1 shows the device seen from the end, in the direction of the edge of the panel of the door not shown, which would be behind the plane of the drawing.
Fig. 2 is a top view.
Fig. 3 shows the stop position, in which a beak of the profiled part blocks the median axis of the door panel in cooperation with the provided guide member.
Let at 1 and 2 be the two wings of a U-type profiled iron, as shown in fig. 2, while Figs. 1 and 3 only represent sections through said wings.
This U-shaped iron and such an iron which will be opposite it, serve as guide members, in the vertical direction, of a tilting door, not shown, but integral with an axis 3 which, at each of its ends, carries a roller such as 4, precisely guided in one of the aforementioned irons.
At each end, the axis 3 also carries a profiled plate such as 5.
In the following, and given that the two ends of the axis 3 are identically arranged, it will only be a question of the end shown in the drawing. The roller 4 and the plate 5 turn crazy on the axis 3 which turns with the door that it supports, that is to say performs a rotation of about a quarter of a turn in one and the other. 'other direction when opening, respectively closing, of the door.
At the end of this shaft is provided a flat part carrying a plate 6 which, therefore, is angularly integral with the positions occupied by the axis 3.
This plate serves as an anchoring joint at one end of a coil spring 7, which attaches to it at 8, while its other end, after it has wound around the axis 3, attacks the plate 5 in 9.
The spring is thus constituted that, with respect to the assembly, it seeks to rotate the plate 5 in the direction of arrow 10 of FIGS. 1 and 3.
At 11 is the door suspension cable which, via a loop, supports a pin 12, joining two rods 13 in turn articulated at 14 to the plate 5.
This articulation joint being distant from the axis 3 of the door, it follows that, under the influence of the traction of the cable 11, balanced by the weight of the door acting on 3, the line or the plane joined together. the axes 3 and 14, will come into alignment with the direction of suspension, or here with the vertical, which will have the consequence of maintaining the plate 5 in the position drawn, against the action of the spring 7 tending to make it rotate.
In this position, this plate, in accordance with the profile shown, slides freely between the wings 1-2 of the U-bar.
Its opposite sides partially parallel to said wings at 15 and 16, pass with play between the latter. A beak 17, following on from 15 and placed lower than the axis of rotation 3 of the plate, also passes at a short distance from the wing 1.
This wing has, on the other hand, and facing the path of the spout 17, openings such as 18, regularly or irregularly spaced.
If now, the suspension cable breaks, it is obvious that the plate 5 will no longer be stressed by the latter, and therefore free to obey the action of the spring 7. It will therefore seek to turn in the direction. arrow 10.
In doing so, its beak 17 is pushed against the wing 1 and the openings 18. As soon as it is in front of one of these openings, following the fall that the break in the cable will have triggered, there is is pushed and the plate will take the locking position of fig. 3.
In this position, the fall is stopped by the engagement of the spout in a wing of the guide iron, while the profile of the plate 5 is such, opposite the spout, that it rests at 19, by a relatively large part of its edge, against the opposite wing 2, which gives it great stability in the locking position and distributes the forces accordingly. Abruptly abandoned to itself, the door will almost drop from the height of a step between two openings.
It was said above that these openings could be regularly or irregularly distributed. We can, in fact, give the openings placed higher, lengths (heights) less than those of the openings located lower, in a region where the acceleration of the door left to itself is greater and therefore the path by ran through the beak in the larger unit of time.
Given the rotation of a quarter turn that the axis 3 must be able to perform, having the effect each time of tensioning or relaxing the spring 7 by the same amount, it is obvious that the latter must be wound with a certain play on said axis, as shown.
