Description

   <Desc/Clms Page number 1>

 Method of manufacturing a waterproof watch case and waterproof watch case obtained by this method The method according to the invention is characterized in that it consists in providing a groove at the periphery of a circular plate intended to constitute the back of the case, to hot press in this groove s a thermoplastic mass intended to form a seal between the back and the middle part, to cool this mass and to give it by turning its final shape.

   Figs. 1 to 6, respectively 7 to 13, illustrate the successive steps of two particular implementations of the method according to the invention; fig. 14 shows the bottom, the manufacture of which is illustrated in FIGS. 7 to 13, assembled to its middle. The bottom shown in fig. 6 is obtained as follows. A circular plate 20 obtained by cutting (FIG. 1) is subjected to a forging operation so as to reveal a collar 21 (FIG. 2); the part thus blank is then turned so as to form at its periphery a circular groove 22 (FIG. 3) with dovetail edges.

   There is in this groove a washer 23 of thermoplastic material (FIG. 4), intended to form a seal between the back and the caseband; this washer is then heated and it is pressed into the groove 22, so that it completely fills the latter and clings to its edges (fig. 5). During this operation, the upper surface of the washer is also given a profile close to its final profile which is produced lastly by turning after cooling (fig. 6). The seal 23 will advantageously be made of polyamide. Figs. 7 to 13 illustrate the manufacture of a bottom of another profile.

  In this second implementation, the groove 22 is made in the outer cylindrical surface of a rim obtained by an additional turning operation. A washer 23 of thermoplastic material (FIG. 11) is placed around this groove, intended to form a seal between the back and the caseband; this washer is then heated and it is pressed into the groove 22, so that it completely fills the latter and clings to its edges (fig. 12). During this operation, the surface of the washer is also given a profile close to its final profile which is produced lastly by turning after cooling (fig. 13).

  Fig. 14 shows the bottom, shown in FIG. 13, mounted notch in the middle part which corresponds to it, the upper part of the seal 23 being embedded in a groove made in the lower face of the middle part.

  The method according to the present invention makes it possible to produce a perfectly sealed seal, mainly as a result of the very high precision with which the various adjoining parts of the back and the middle part can be dimensioned, in particular of the seal itself.
