1. A cet effet (fig. 9, 10, 11) les croisillons 11, 12 et les arbres 13, 14 sont remplacés par les pièces 37, 38, 39 (fig. 9, 10).
Volumetric rotary machine The object of the invention is a volumetric rotary machine. In one embodiment, this machine may include a rotating part, rotor, which defines, with a fixed stator part, variable volumes during relative movement. It can therefore be used as a pump, compressor, motor, etc. The rotor is a part in the general shape of a hollow cylinder, the section of which, by a plane perpendicular to the generatrices, is limited, on its periphery, by an oval curve having two axes of symmetry, one longitudinal, the other transverse.
The device which will be described hereinafter subjects the longitudinal axis of this section to pass through a fixed point and the transverse axis of this same section to pass through another fixed point. Under these conditions the rotor will have a complex movement which can be defined geometrically as being the movement of a right angle, the two sides of which each pass through a fixed point. During this movement the rotor will have an envelope (in the geometric sense of the word)
that is, it will constantly remain tangent (and even bi-tangent because of its double symmetry) to a certain cylindrical surface.
If we build a stator which materializes this geometrical envelope, we achieve a double seal by brushing without friction, the two contact generators moving at every moment and the volumes located on either side of the rotor varying in a way continuous and periodic.
The appended drawing represents by way of example an embodiment of the machine which is the subject of the invention.
Fig. 1 shows the machine as a whole, perspective view with the cut part removed. Figs. 2, 3, 4 schematically represent the operation of the volumetric machine.
Figs. 5, 6, 7, 8 also show schematically the possible applications.
Figs. 9, 10, 11 show an alternative construction of the spider.
The rotor 1 comprises a recessed central part 2, and four radial slides 3, 4, 5, 6, the axes of which are located in the median plane of the rotor and form 900 between them. These axes coincide with the axes of symmetry of two median sections of the rotor. Inside these radial guides slide fingers 7, 8, 9 and 10 mounted on crosses 11, 12 themselves carried by the driving or receiving shafts 13, 14; these motor or receiver shafts are not in the extension of one of the other, but offset while being parallel.
The fingers 7 and 8 are perpendicular to the shaft 14 which spacers them by means of the cross member 12; the fingers 9 and 10 are perpendicular to the shaft 13 which spacers them via the cross 11. The two cross lons 11 and 12 are machined in the form of a fork to allow assembly.
All the elements constituting the rotor are placed in the stator 15 which has a well-defined oval shape.
The stator 15 and the rotor 1 are straight cylinders with parallel bases, the directrix of which is for the stator an oval of particular shape. The dimensions and shapes of the rotor as well as its movement are such that the ends of its major axis are constantly in contact with the stator by rubbing without friction following two generators which are moving at each moment. The volumes located on either side of the rotor vary continuously and periodically, the period being one revolution for each volume considered.
The rotor can be cooled and lubricated by circulating through conduits in the shafts.
The operation of the machine is as follows: According to fig. 2, the rotor 1 is vertical, moved to the left by the fingers of the major axis (9, 10 of fig. 1). It determines in the stator two different volumes 19, 20 delimited by the faces 21, 22 of the rotor and the two contact generators 23, 24 inside the stator. Volume 20 is larger than volume 19.
In fig. 3, the rotor is horizontal, its major axis in the X- Y plane of symmetry of the machine (plane of the axes of rotation 16, 16 '), the volumes 19 and 20 delimited by the faces 21 , 22 and the generators 17, 18 are identical.
In fig. 4, the rotor made a U-turn and was brought back to the left by the fingers of its major axis; the volumes 19, 20 are still delimited by the faces 21, 22, but this time the contact generators are 25, and 26 otherwise said volume 20 has become volume 19 and vice versa.
It is possible to make hydraulic pumps or motors in this way (fig. 5). In this case the stator flaps are pierced with symmetrical openings masked by the rotor when the latter is in a position perpendicular to the X- Y. plane of symmetry. During rotation, the volumes 19 , 20 are respectively in communication with the openings 27, 28 through which the circulation of the fluid takes place.
The volumes are compensated during the times of closing the openings (covering) is effected by the channels 29, 30 (fig. 6), in communication with the radial orifices and the fingers 9, 10 playing the role of volumetric pistons and cylinders .
The compressors (fig. 7) have similar arrangements, but the shape of the rotor is such that the volume 19 (neutral space) is reduced to a minimum. The lights are placed in the vicinity of the major axis and arranged so as to recover the work of expanding the gas which remains in the neutral space.
Finally, in the case of a heat engine (fig. 8) the rotor is similar to that of the compressors but cut diametrically along 31 and 32. The flanges carry an ignition plug or an injector 33 and an exhaust port. 34 as well as an intake port 35 through which the pressurized air ensures the scavenging of the burnt gases and the filling of the engine with fuel air or clean air. On the intake manifold 35, a non-return valve 36 is provided.
In certain applications, it appears necessary to distribute the forces over two stages and to choose a symmetrical arrangement in order to eliminate the overhangs according to fig. 1. For this purpose (fig. 9, 10, 11) the cross members 11, 12 and the shafts 13, 14 are replaced by the parts 37, 38, 39 (fig. 9, 10). The shaft 38 carries, mounted on the collar 37, the fingers 40 and 41. The hollow spider 39 carries the fingers 42, 43 and is provided with orifices 44, 45 through which the fingers 40 and 41 pass. The shaft 38 (fig. 3) rotates in the bearings 46, 47 of the flanges 48, 49. The spider 39 rotates on the guide members 50 and 51.
The fingers 40 and 41 of the spider 37 and the fingers 42 and 43 of the spider 39, slide in the radial channels 3, 4, 5, 6 of the rotor and together, when one of the shafts is driving, gives the rotor the desired movement. According to this assembly, one of the axes is constituted by a crosstrain driven by the motor shaft. The other axis is formed by a hollow spider which rotates around the guide members carried by the flanges.
The applications of this machine are manifold and it is possible to obtain vacuum pumps, gas engines, heat engines, pumps, hydraulic motors, positive displacement turbines for industrial applications as well as any other equi valentes.
It is also possible to assemble in series several devices for their rational combined use for the purposes of producing step compressors, multiple expansion gas turbines and others.
