Magnetic material, the remanence of which assumes an opposite sign under the influence of a change in temperature and the process for the production of this material 1: It is known that the compound Li, 0-5Fe #, 03 Mark is ferromagnetic (see e.g.
B. Natural knowledge? 6, page .131 [1938] and comes very close to the spinel structure in terms of its crystal structure.
By using a different formula for the chemical formula of this compound, its relationship to the ferromagnetic ferrites with spinel structure and with the formula MFez04, which are important for high frequency technology, can be seen, where M is a divalent metal, e.g. B.
Nickel or manganese, because the chemical composition of this compound can also be represented by the formula (11i0.75 + Fe ...) Fez0 ".
The complex consisting of half an atom of monovalent lithium and half an atom of trivalent iron takes the place of an atom of the divalent metal M of YFez04. The formula of the compound in question (Lio.s Fe ...) F.7204 can therefore also be used as Lio.s Fe "s) 04 Olesehrieben.
The magnetic material according to the invention, the remanence of which assumes an opposite sign under the action of a temperature change, now consists at least partially of homogeneous mixed crystals of the compounds (Llo, sPeo, s) Fe204 and (Li "sFeo.s) Cr., 04 according to of the composition Li "S Fe, ...--" Cr. 04, where a is between 0.9 and 1.7.
Neither (UM Fe ...) Cr204 nor the series of mixed crystals lying in the composition between the stated limits has been described in the literature so far. When testing these substances, it was found that those with the nominal composition Fe, Liu, S 2-5-a ) Cra04 @ where the size a is between 0.9 and 1.7, the strange one Possess property
that the remanence and consequently the magnetization under the effect of a temperature change assume an opposite sign. If such a material is magnetized to saturation and the external magnetic field is then removed, with an increase or decrease in temperature (corresponding to the value of a,) the remanence and consequently also the magnetization is initially reduced to zero and decreases. by further increase or decrease in temperature even an opposite sign is assumed.
The temperature at which the remanence and the spontaneous magnetization reverse their sign at a certain value of a is referred to below as the reversal point. At an even higher temperature, the remanence and the spontaneous magnetization decrease again in absolute value, and finally disappear completely at the Curie point.
The 'remanence and the spontaneous magnetization reach a maximum value between the reversal point and the Curie point, which has a maximum for compositions of the material according to the invention in which the aforementioned value a is between 1.1 and 1.15.
The above-mentioned property of the series of substances described enables their use for temperature display. By nature, the reversal point defined above is important here, which can be achieved through a suitable choice of the value of the quantity a, which is also defined above. can be set to any desired temperature between about -25 C and + 225 C.
In the production of the ferrite mixed crystals in question, starting from oxides of iron, chromium and lithium or from compounds that can pass into these oxides when heated, the difficulty arises that chromium oxide, Cr "0", is only slightly reactive and only reacts completely at a higher temperature. In addition, Lit.hiumoxy d, Li20, is rather volatile, and the reaction products, in general, must not be excessively heated, since then decomposition occurs with the escape of lithium oxide.
In order to avoid these disadvantages, the procedure is preferably such that from an at least predominantly aqueous mixed solution of at least one iron compound and at least one chromium compound by means of a substance that reacts alkaline in aqueous solution at least part of the chemically bound iron present in the mixed solution and chemically Bound chromium is deposited in the form of at least one practically insoluble compound in water, the precipitate is deposited from the solution and is brought to reaction with a lithium compound. Ammonia gas is usually introduced into the mixed solution, preferably into the heated mixed solution.
The precipitate then formed is preferably thoroughly with. Washed out water, then dried and then mixed with the lithium compound and heated to a temperature at which the mixed crystals according to the desired composition Lro, 5 Fe Cr "04 arise. As a lithium-containing reaction component lithium carbonate is preferably used.
The washed, dried and pulverized precipitate obtained from the mixed solution is then preferably reacted with the lithium carbonate by containing it with finely divided lithium carbonate up to a temperature of preferably 600-7,100 C in a carbon dioxide-containing one Gas atmosphere is heated with such a carbon dioxide pressure that the lithium carbonate does not yet decompose into lithium oxide and carbon dioxide at the relevant temperature,
so that evaporation of lithium oxide is avoided as far as possible. In order to promote the formation of a homogeneous reaction product as much as possible, it is advisable to cool the resulting reaction product, pulverize it and heat it again, this time. up to a temperature of preferably 1000-1150 C in a gas atmosphere with a high oxygen content.
One can also proceed in such a way that a solution of iron salts and chromium salts, which can be converted into Fez0 or Crz03 when heated, is evaporated to dryness and the dry residue is heated until essentially three-dimensional crystals of Fe203 and Cr @ 03 are formed and these mixed crystals are reacted with lithium carbonate. These compounds can be nitrates or salts of organic acids. The oxidized material is then reacted again with a lithium compound.
The invention is explained in more detail below using an exemplary embodiment. Example A solution of ferric nitrate containing 7.81 g of iron per 100 cubic meters of solution is prepared from carbonyl iron and distilled nitric acid. A solution of chromium nitrate Cr (N03) 3, which contains 5.42 g of chromium per 100 cm3 of solution, is also made from chromium oxide, Cr203, and distilled nitric acid. The calculated amounts of these two solutions are combined and the mixed solution is heated to a boil.
Ammonia gas is then introduced into the warm solution with constant stirring until the solution has an alkaline reaction. The resulting precipitate in the solution is filtered off and washed out until no more Ni trations can be detected in the washing water, and then dried.
The precipitate is then pulverized in a mortar and mixed with the calculated amount of lithium carbonate; the lithium carbonate in question contained 18.66% lithium. The cremiseh is then ground for 4 hours under benzene in a Piner agate mill, the benzene is filtered off,
dried and preheated for 2 hours at 700 ° C. in a gas atmosphere of equal volumes of oxygen and carbon dioxide. This is then cooled, whereupon the reaction product is pulverized and heated in a tube furnace for 2 hours at a temperature of 1150 ° C. in an oxygen atmosphere. It is then cooled in the same atmosphere.
This way you can get material, be. consisting of mixed crystals, according to the nominal composition Fe, I: 10., 5 #, 5 -_; t # Cru04, with the size a- in practical experiments successively the values 0, .5, 0.75, 1 ., 00, 1.25, 1.50, 1.60 and 2.00.
For the magnetic properties of the various compounds obtained in this way, reference is made to FIGS. 1 and 2 referenced.
