The present invention relates to an antifriction support device for a moving body, for example for bodies moving with reciprocating movement, linear conveyors, large diameter turntables and the like, a device in which it is desired to obtain a practically frictionless sliding movement.
According to the invention, this device is characterized in that it comprises a fixed support, several cup-shaped members fixed in said support and arranged at a certain distance from each other along the path of said mobile body, each cup-shaped member being open on the side of said path and having a bottom surface and a cylindrical side face substantially perpendicular to the plane of said bottom surface, a series of spherical balls in each of said cup-shaped members , arranged in a circular row and resting against said bottom surface and against said cylindrical side surface,
and a larger diameter spherical ball bearing constantly against all the balls of each circular row of balls and only against them, with a portion projecting beyond the surface of said support, the whole arranged so that the movable body touches each of the gran of the balls at a point which is displaced relative to the point on the surface of the ball located on its axial line parallel to the cylindrical side surface of the corresponding cup-shaped member.
When such a device is employed to support a moving body and the longitudinal axis of each housing is inclined at an appropriate angle with respect to the direction of the load force acting on the large ball in a plane perpendicular to the direction of movement of the point of contact of the moving body with the large ball, a support device is obtained having extremely low frictional resistance.
The appended drawing represents, by way of example, two embodiments of the device which is the subject of the invention.
Fig. 1 is a sectional view of the first embodiment, applied to the guiding of the rod of a sheep.
Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section. Fig. 3 schematically shows the second embodiment, consisting of a support device for bodies moving in translation.
Fig. 4 is a sectional view on an enlarged scale taken along line 4-4 of FIG. 3.
The guide device shown in FIGS. 1 and 2 comprises a guide block 1 of annular shape, having an axial bore 2 through which passes a sheep shank represented by the circle in phantom 3; the sheep rod is thus guided in its movement which takes place in the direction perpendicular to the plane of FIG. 1. Several cylindrical recesses 4 are made in the block 1. They are open on the side of the bore 2 and arranged around the latter. In the embodiment shown, there are two circular rows of recesses, each row comprising eight recesses.
The longitudinal axes <I> x - x </I> and <I> x '- x' </I> of the recesses 4 are inclined at an appropriate angle with respect to the radial lines, as explained below.
Each recess 4 has its bottom surface practically perpendicular to the axis <I> x - x </I> or x '- x', and is provided with a cup 5 of suitable material such as steel for bearings . The cup 5 has a cylindrical rim fitting inside the cylindrical wall of the recess and practically parallel to the <I> x - x </I> or <I> x '- x' axis. < / I> Several spherical steel balls 6, relatively small, are arranged in the bowl 5 in a circular row and are supported both against the bottom surface and against the side surface of the bowl 5; a relatively large spherical steel ball 7 constantly presses against all the balls of the circular row of small balls 6 and only against them.
The large balls 7 protrude slightly from the inner cylindrical surface of the bore 2 and rest against the sheep shank 3.
The aforementioned angle of inclination of the axis <I> x - x </I> or x '- x' is such that the angle between the axis and the radial line passing through the point of contact of the large ball 7 and rod 3 is between approximately 5 and 300, that is to say that the sliding body 3 touches each of the large balls 7 at a point displaced by approximately 5 to 301, relative to the point of the surface of the ball 7 which is encountered by the axis <I> x - x </I> or <I> x '- x'. </I>
Thanks to the arrangement described above, a practically frictionless guide bearing is thus obtained for the sheep shank 3.
We see in fig. 3 and 4 a body 10 such as a steel bar coming from a forge, which is transported longitudinally in the direction perpendicular to the plane of FIG. 4. The body 10 is supported by several spaced cup-shaped members (5-6-7) identical to those shown in FIGS. 1 and 2. In this case, however, the cup-shaped members are arranged in linear rows in a fixed support 11. Two rows are shown in the drawing, and the axes <I> x - x </I> and <I> x '- x' </I> are respectively inclined in the transverse planes of approximately 5 to 30.1 with respect to vertical lines passing through the points of contact of the balls 7 with the body 10 which is transported .
It is understood that an endless conveyor belt can be guided and supported by a similar assembly of cup-shaped members (5-6-7) placed between its driven pulleys, in an arrangement similar to that of the body 10 in fig. 3 and 4.
