a) on peut également ajouter utilement du bore selon des quantités pouvant atteindre 0,5 % pour améliorer la résistance, mais étant donné que cet élément peut être perdu lors d'une remise en fusion (par exemple lorsque l'on utilise les matières dans des pro cédés de fonderie de précision) on l'utilise principalement avec des alliages destinés au forgeage ; b) un ou plusieurs des éléments suivants peuvent être présents : comme agent désoxydant, l'aluminium, le bérylium, le cérium et le cuivre ;

EMI0002.0027
Traction <SEP> Température <SEP> Temps <SEP> de <SEP> rupture
<tb> kg/em2 <SEP> o <SEP> C <SEP> heures
<tb> 1575 <SEP> 700 <SEP> 960
<tb> 1259 <SEP> 750 <SEP> 580
<tb> 944 <SEP> 800 <SEP> 550
<tb> 629 <SEP> 900 <SEP> 190
<tb> 472 <SEP> 950 <SEP> 210
Alloy based on nickel and chromium and use of said alloy The present invention relates to nickel-chromium alloys and relates in particular to alloys suitable for the production of parts capable of being subjected to stresses or stresses at high temperatures of the order of from 600-1000 C.
It is known that it is possible to use the nickel-chromium alloys usually containing titanium and aluminum for the production of parts of this type and that it has been proposed in this technique to add to these alloys elements such as molybdenum, vanadium, tungsten and other carbide-forming products, as additional reinforcing products. Among these products, it is certainly molybdenum which was mentioned the most frequently.
These alloys invariably contain less than 0.5% carbon, and in most cases less than 0.1% carbon.
The present invention is based on the discovery that alloys of nickel and chromium (with additional reinforcements and suitable for high temperature applications) are particularly suitable for foundry work if the carbon content is at least equal. at 0.5 '0/0.
The alloy according to the invention is characterized in that it contains the following elements, the proportions being indicated by weight

<tb> Niobium <SEP> and <SEP> (or) <SEP> Tantalum <SEP> 1 <SEP> - <SEP> 6 <SEP>% the remainder being formed at least of nickel and impurities. It may also contain at most 15% iron.
A preferred and more restricted range of alloy compositions according to the invention is as follows
EMI0001.0037
Carbon <SEP> <B> ....... </B> <SEP>. <SEP>. <SEP>. <SEP>. <SEP>. <SEP> <B> 0.5- </B> <SEP> 0.7%

<tb> Niobium <SEP> and <SEP> (or) <SEP> Tantalum <SEP> 2 <SEP> - <SEP> 4 <SEP>% the remainder being formed at least of nickel and impurities and iron which can be present at a rate of not more than 10%. In the alloys mentioned above with an increased carbon content and in accordance with the invention:
a) Boron can also be usefully added in amounts up to 0.5% to improve strength, but since this element may be lost on re-melting (e.g. when using the materials in precision foundry processes) it is mainly used with alloys intended for forging; b) one or more of the following elements may be present: as a deoxidizing agent, aluminum, berylium, cerium and copper;
as hardening agent, titanium, vanadium and zirconium, the latter three being taken from the metals of the 4th and 5th groups of the periodic system of the elements, with a melting point greater than 16000 C and an atomic number between 22 and 40. These elements, however, are not essential to impart the desirable wetting properties mentioned above.
As a rule, alloys containing more than 3% of any one of these elements or containing more than 3% of the total of several of these elements are not suitable for the applications envisaged for the alloy according to l invention; c) nitrogen can be present in a proportion of between 0.01 and 0.2%.
For example, a suitable alloy in accordance with the invention has the following composition
EMI0002.0024
Carbon <SEP> 0.52%
<tb> Manganese <SEP> ...... <SEP> 1 <SEP>%
<tb> Silicon <SEP>. <SEP>. <SEP>. <SEP>. <SEP>. <SEP>. <SEP>. <SEP>. <SEP>. <SEP>. <SEP> 0.8 <SEP>%

<SEP> complement Among the typical creep properties of this alloy in the as-cast state, the following may be mentioned
EMI0002.0027
Traction <SEP> Temperature <SEP> Time <SEP> of <SEP> rupture
<tb> kg / em2 <SEP> o <SEP> C <SEP> hours
<tb> 1575 <SEP> 700 <SEP> 960
<tb> 1259 <SEP> 750 <SEP> 580
<tb> 944 <SEP> 800 <SEP> 550
<tb> 629 <SEP> 900 <SEP> 190
<tb> 472 <SEP> 950 <SEP> 210
<tb> 393 <SEP> 1000 <SEP> 170 The cast alloy has a suitable cold strength of about 5500 kg / cm2 and cold ductility
of 5,%. The thermal shock resistance of the alloy compares favorably with austenitic cast alloys.
In the example above, if 20% of the nickel is replaced by 20% of cobalt, the break-up time * is increased appreciably. Thus, for example, for an approximate load of 475 kg / cm at 950o C, the breaking time increases from 210 hours to 1209 hours.
With regard to the use of niobium and (or) tantalum in the alloys in accordance with the invention, it may be mentioned that, since the most common ores that are encountered are those of tantalum and niobium with a ratio of 1 / L approximately of the two elements, a niobium-tantalum composition originating from these ores is particularly suitable from the point of view of the implementation.
Alloys according to the invention are particularly suitable in the various known molding processes; they are particularly suitable for the production of parts such as nozzle fins for gas turbines. However, they are also suitable for uses in which they are subjected to stresses at high temperatures or else rapid fluctuations in temperature.
It will be borne in mind that, although the alloys according to the invention are mainly intended for use in foundry (that is to say that they can be used in the as-cast state without heat treatment) , you can forge or extrude them. In this case, they can be given an appropriate heat treatment.
In this connection, it may be mentioned that the alloy according to the example given above can be forged and receive a 5 minute solution treatment at 1250 ° C., followed by an oil quenching. Such an alloy has a breaking time of 35 hours under a load of 472 kg / cm- at 9500 C. The addition of 0.01% boron increases this breaking time to 57 hours.
According to another procedure, the addition of 0.05% cerium increases the breaking load of the forged alloy to some extent, a load of 630 kg / cm2 at 950 ° C giving a breaking time of 28. hours.
Another example of an alloy in accordance with the invention is similar to that mentioned above except that it contains 4.6% tungsten, 3.7% molybdenum, 1.9% niobium and 2,
1% tantalum. When forged and quenched in oil at 12,500 C, the breaking time under a load of 472 kg / cm2 at 950 ° C is 248 hours.
