Exemple Xlll Préparation de l'acide 3,4-époxy-6- méthyl-cyclohexanecarboxylique. On traite une solution de 0,197 mois d'acide 6-méthyl-1,2,5,6-tétrahydrobenzoïque dans 30 g d'éther de pétrole de point d'ébulli tion de 60 - 700 C à l'aide d'une solution à 22,80/0 d'acide peracétique (0,3 mol) dans l'acétone pendant neuf heures à 25 - 28 C. On soumet le mélange réactionnel à une distillation à faible température (20 - 30() C) à l'aide d'une colonne à un plateau pour éliminer les com posés volatils.
Process for the production of epoxy derivatives The present invention relates to a process for the preparation of a new class of organic compounds, the epoxy derivatives represented by the formula
EMI0001.0003
in which Rj, R2, R3, R4, R5 and Rs are hydrogen or alkyl radicals and, for n equal to 1, M is a hydrogen atom or an organic residue and, for n equal to 2, M is an organic residue, said process being characterized in that the acid 3 is reacted with a peroxidized derivative of acetic acid,
4-cyclohexenylcarboxylic, 3,4-cyclohexenylcarboxylate or bis (3,4-cyclohexenylcarboxylate) corresponding to the epoxy derivative to be obtained, at a temperature between 20 and 550 C.
The compounds thus obtained are useful as modifiers and plasticizers for certain types of synthetic condensation resins and in particular as stabilizers for various synthetic resins.
In addition, these compounds are valuable intermediates in the preparation of a large number of new chemical compounds due to their active epoxy group which can react with a large number of compounds having an unstable hydrogen atom. In addition, said compounds constitute useful intermediates in the preparation of artificial lubricants, tanning agents and biological preparations.
The epoxides prepared by oxidation of A3-cyclohexenecarboxylic acids and their esters are preferably called 7 oxabicyclo (4,1,0) -heptane-3-carboxylic acids and esters of these acids, in accordance with the nomenclature system adopted by the American Chemical Society, for use in Chemical Abstracts.
The oxidation of the olefinic bond contained in the raw material, for example A3-cyclohexenecarboxylic acid, can be carried out using acetaldehyde monoperacetate and the reaction giving rise to the epoxides can then be represented by the equation next
EMI0002.0001
where R1, R2, R, 3, R4, R5,
R6 are hydrogen or methyl and R is hydrogen or a radical from alcohol used in esterification.
This oxidation can advantageously also be carried out with peracetic acid. The application of peracetic acid as an oxidizing agent is particularly suitable for the epoxidation reaction because the cyclohexenyl ring is quite easily converted into the corresponding epoxy form, in good yields.
