Sealing device The present invention relates to a positive sealing device for isolating from the outside a closed space delimited by two parts joined together along a closed plane line.
In the device according to the invention, the two parts in question have means which hold them in a determined position relative to one another. In addition, one of these parts has an annular housing extending along said closed flat line, and this housing is closed by a corresponding part of the other part. Finally, a seal made of deformable material, of circular cross section, is placed in said housing.
The latter and the corresponding part of the other part are shaped so that said lining isolates from one another at least three annular spaces, two of which communicate respectively with the interior of said closed space and with the exterior. , are each delimited by two walls belonging one to said housing and the other to said corresponding part of the other part, said other annular space or spaces being delimited each by two walls of said housing.
The part of the part which is intended to close the said housing may be constituted by an annular projection emerging from this part, this sail having two faces in the form of a roof, joined by a portion of rounded surface, the two said faces being intended to come into contact with the seal and forming sharp angles with the corresponding walls of the housing.
The device according to the invention will preferably be applied to a watch case in which the two parts in question are made up one by a middle part and the other by the back of this case. In this case, the means intended to maintain the caseband and the back in a determined position relative to each other preferably consist of a conical face and a planar face of each of these two parts, the conical faces being arranged so as to ensure a notched engagement of the caseback on the caseband and the flat faces in question being arranged so as to come into contact with one another, when the back is engaged on the caseband, in order to maintain end these two parts in a determined axial position relative to each other.
Finally, the housing in question can be delimited by a flat bottom and two cylindrical walls. If this housing is formed on the case, its outer wall may be located on a part of the caseband which carries said face intended to serve as a stop at the bottom and its inner wall may be situated on a part of the caseband which is arranged in so that its extension constitutes said conical face serving to retain the detent back.
The protrusion of the back is then provided inside a rim of the latter which has said flat face intended to come into contact with that of the caseband, the conical face of the back, which is intended to ensure the engagement. notch of the latter on the caseband, being provided on said projection.
The single figure of the drawing is a partial diametral section of a watch whose case is equipped with an exemplary embodiment of the sealed positive device according to the invention.
The movement 1 of the watch shown in the drawing is housed, by means of an enlargement ring 2, in a caseband 3 of a case, the circle 2 being engaged in a notch in a flange 4 of the middle part 3 and the dial 5 pressing axially under a flange 6 coming with the middle part 3. The assembly of the movement 1 with its circle 2 in the middle part 3 is ensured thanks to the elasticity of the latter, which has very thin; while the dislocation of movement 1 is provided by an annular groove 7 of circle 2, in which the edge of a flat tool can be engaged.
In its lower part, in the vicinity of its end turned towards the bottom 8 of the case, the caseband 3 has an internal rim 9, plane, in the form of a circular crown, the inner edge of which constitutes the rim 4, the re edge 9 being itself came with a flywheel comprising a part 10, cylindrical, and a part 11, conical.
The lower rim 12 of the middle part 3, the inner rim 9 and the part 10 of the steering wheel form a housing 13, which has a flat bottom 14, and two cylindrical walls 15 and 16, these belonging respectively to the rim 12 and to the cylindrical part 10 of the flywheel. This housing 13 is intended to be closed by an annular projection 17 coming with the bottom 8, inside a peripheral rim 18 of the latter. This projection 17 has two faces 19 and 20, conical, joined by a rounded surface portion 21. The projection 17 also has a conical face 22, intended to ensure a notch engagement of the back 8 on the caseband-bezel 3, by embracing the conical face 30 of part 11 of said steering wheel of this middle part.
The back 8 and the caseband 3 are held in a predetermined axial position relative to each other, thanks to the edges 12 and 18 of the caseband and the back, whose respective flat faces 23 and 24 bear against each other. the other when the projection 17 is engaged by its face 22 around the conical part 11 of said steering wheel of the middle part 3.
A seal, made of an easily deformable material, for example of rubber-like synthetic material, of circular cross section, as seen in phantom in the drawing, is placed in the space delimited by the faces 14, 15, 16, 19, 20 and 21 so as to ensure the tightness of the closure of the box from the bottom.
This lining 25 does not, however, completely fill said space, when the back 8 is placed on the middle part 3. While coming into contact in a sealed manner with each of the faces 14, 15, 16, 19 and 20, the lining ture 25 leaves empty annular spaces 26, 27, 28 and 29 in the housing 13, these annular spaces being isolated from each other, and being respectively delimited by the converging faces 14, 15; 14, 16 belonging to the rim 12, to the rim 9 and to the cylindrical part 10 of the steering wheel of the middle part 3; as well as by the faces 30 and 19 of the conical part 11 of the flywheel and of the projection 17, and 15 and 20 of the rim 12 and of the projection 17.
The annular space 29 communicates with the outside of the box through the inevitable interstices, located between the faces 23 of the flange 12 and 24 of the flange 18, which cannot be machined so that they come into contact with my waterproof. Likewise, the annular space 28 communicates with the inside of the box through the interstices remaining between the faces 22 of the projection 17 and 30 of the part 11 of the flywheel.
As can be seen from the drawing, the gasket 25 is only relatively slightly deformed inside the housing 13. In other words, this gasket 25 is not subjected to excessive pressure, which could disintegrate it, as is the case, for example, with highly compressed gaskets used in cases having a back screwed into a caseband.
To assemble the box described, the gasket 25 is placed in the housing 13, in which it is retained by the conical part 11 of the flywheel of the middle part. This lining 25 is only very slightly deformed since the distance between the faces 15 and 16 of the housing is only very slightly less than the diameter of the lining. Moreover, the two annular spaces 26 and 27 compensate for the manufacturing inaccuracies of the gasket 25 and of the parts 12, 9 and 10 of the box, by allowing the material of the gasket 25 to penetrate more or less into the corners. formed respectively between the faces 14, 15 and 14, 16.
This lining 25 still undergoes an additional deformation when the bottom 8 is placed on the middle part 3, due to the fact that the projection 17 drives a corner inside the lining.
The tightness of the closure of the back 8 on the middle part 3 is therefore ensured not only by the fact that the gasket 25 comes into tight contact with the faces 14, 15, 16 of the middle part, but also and above all by the fact that this lining comes into watertight contact with the faces 19 and 20 of the projection 17.
Assuming that the pressure prevailing outside the box described increases appreciably compared to the pressure which prevails inside this box, said external pressure will be communicated to the space 29 by the interstices remaining between the faces 23 and 24 respectively of the rim 12 of the caseband 3 and of the rim 18 of the base 8. This overpressure will re-press the material of the lining 25 out of the acute angle formed between the faces 15 of the re edge 12 and 20 of the projection 17 .
The material so forced will cause deformation of the packing, after which not only the empty annular spaces 26 and 27 will be smaller, but after which the material of the packing 25 will penetrate further into the angle formed between them. converging faces 19 and 30 respectively of the projection 17 and of the conical part 11 of the flywheel of the middle 3. On the other hand, if the pressure outside the case falls very low, well below that which prevails inside - of the can, there will be an overpressure in the space 28 which will deform the packing material 25 causing it to penetrate further into the annular space 29.
Isolation from the outside of the box, from the space inside it, is perfectly assured, while using a gasket on which it is not necessary to exert a very great pressure so that it ensures the tightness, since the overpressures or depressions which can reign on the outside of the box only move the material of the gasket along the faces 19 and 20, without ja but allowing no infiltration air or liquid between the lining and these faces 19 and 20. Finally, it will be noted that the portion of the rounded surface 21 of the projection 17 prevents any tearing of the material of the lining 25, during said movements of the latter.
The sealed arrangement described can be applied to any type of box.
Not requiring a special reinforcement of the parts on which it is applied, and being able to be mounted on a box whose case and bottom are particularly thin, it can be seen that the sealed device according to the invention can be applied advantageously in particular to gold boxes.
However, it is understood that this sealed positive device is not called upon to find application only in boxes. It can be used in all cases where it is a question of isolating from the outside a space located inside two parts intended to be joined along a closed plane line.
It suffices that one of these parts has an annular housing along said line and that the other part comprises a part intended to close this housing, the gasket being disposed in its housing so as to isolate therein spaces an nulars, two of which are intended to maintain the seal both when the external pressure is very large compared to the internal pressure, and when the external pressure is very small compared to this internal pressure, at least one third annular space being intended to allow the compensation of manufacturing errors of said housing, by allowing the material of the filling to penetrate more or less inside this housing.
