Ventilation device The present invention relates to a ventilation device comprising a chamber provided with an intake port and an air outlet port, a central trifugal fan actuated by a motor arranged between the The inlet port and the outlet port, so that its axis of rotation is substantially parallel to the plane of the inlet port and the outlet port. This assembly is characterized in that the chamber is constructed so as to introduce the air admitted at an angle which is substantially tangent to the periphery of the fan.
The accompanying drawing shows, by way of example, two embodiments of the device which is the subject of the invention.
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of the first embodiment.
Fig. 2 is a section taken in the direction of arrows 2-2 of FIG. 1.
Fig. 3 is a partial section of a positive dis of a known type; and fig. 4 is a schematic view of a theoretical type of device ensuring the best conditions for the flow of air.
With particular reference to FIG. 1, the device shown has a heat exchanger comprising a casing 10 having an orifice 12 for admitting outside air, an orifice 13 for admitting air from the room, and an evacuation orifice 14. A group of heat exchange coils 16 is contained in the casing, and a drip pan 18 is disposed below the coils to collect the condensation water from the coils.
An S-shaped chamber 20, contained inside the casing 10, is limited by baffles 22 and 24. The chamber 20 comprises the inlet port 23 and the exhaust port 25. A centrifugal fan 26 is disposed in the chamber 20 being mounted to rotate on a shaft 28 journalled in the casing 10. The shaft 28 of the fan is coupled to a power source such as an electric motor by any conventional means, for example by pulleys and belt. The fan fins 34 are of the forward curved type.
A baffle-forming plate 30 is articulated in the vicinity of the orifice 12 by hinges 15 and at 13 it consists of an air intake orifice of the room. A filter 32 extends between the front and the rear of the casing 10 in order to remove, from the circulating air, the dust and other impurities which it contains. The device operates as follows The fan 26 is rotated clockwise (observing Figs. 1 and 2) using, for example, an electric motor (not shown) to to draw air through openings 12 and 13.
The air rises through the filter 32, flows opposite the group of heat exchange coils 16, then into the inlet 23 of the duct 20. It then passes between the fins 34 of the fan, then through the outlet. 25 and discharge port 14.
The inlet 23 adjacent to the fan 26 is significantly larger than the outlet 25 in order to reduce the losses at the inlet. In addition, the pocket 38 formed by the portion 36 of the wall 24 allows a high proportion of the air to approach the fan 26 in a direction tangent to the edge of the fins 34. This has been found to be the best direction. to introduce air, and in no case should an appreciable part of the air not be introduced at an angle greater than a perpendicular to the tangent.
Theoretically, the best air flow would be obtained with the arrangement shown in fig. 4, in which the air is admitted at 40 in the direction of the path of the fan 42 and discharged at 44. Such an arrangement absolutely cannot be adopted in practice for commercial ventilation devices such as air conditioners.
Referring to a known device such as that shown in FIG. 3, it can be seen that the air admitted at 112 is discharged at 114. It will be noted by examining the arrows shown at the lower right corner of the figure that the air admitted at 112 substantially in the direction opposite to the rotation fan fins are impacted in a direction substantially opposite to the direction of final flow. This results in large energy losses which compromise the efficient creation of an appropriate static pressure.
