Process for the preparation of metallized disazo dyes It has been found that new valuable metallized disazo dyes are obtained if 4,4'-diaminodiphenylmethane-3,3'-dicarboxylic acids are tetrazotized, the tetrazo solution is combined with two identical or different coupling components, of which at least one is a coupling capable pyrazolone sulfonic acid, and the disazo dyes obtained are converted into their complex compounds with the aid of metal donating agents.
The metal complex dyes obtained in this way are outstandingly suitable for dyeing leathers of all tannins, which they dye in strong red to brownish yellow to orange tones.
The metal-free disazo dyes initially obtained by the new process have the following general formula:
EMI0001.0013
where X = hydrogen or a substituent. such as halogen, an alky 1 or an alkoxy group and A and B denote the radicals of identical or different coupling components, at least one of which is the radical of a pyrazolone sulfonic acid.
4,4'-Diaminodiphenylmethane-3,3'-diacids can be obtained by a method already described by Heller and Fisselmann (Liebigs Annalen, vol. 324 [1902], p.118) by adding 2 mol of anthranilic acid or one of its core substitution products , which, however, must be unsubstituted in the para position to the NH2 group, initially with about 1 mol of formaldehyde or a formaldehyde-supplying agent for the corresponding N,
N'-methylene bis-anthranilic acid is converted and the latter is then rearranged with the help of mineral acids. The reaction with formaldehyde and the rearrangement can also be carried out in one step by treating the mineral acid salts of anthranilic acid, advantageously in the presence of excess mineral acid, with formaldehyde or formaldehyde-releasing agents.
For the production of the disazo and polyazo dyes it is not necessary to isolate the 4,4'-diaminodiphenylmethane-3,3'-dicarboxylic acids; you can rather with particular advantage of the solution obtained during the rearrangement, which u. U. can contain a mixture of different or isomeric diaminodiphenylmethanedicarboxylic acids, easily tetrasotize and process them further.
Pyrazolonsulfonic acids capable of coupling are u. a. 1-phenyl-3-methyl-py razolon-3'- or -4'-sulfonic acid and its derivatives substituted in the phenyl ring by halogen, alkyl, alkoxy and / or nitro groups, and also 1,3-diphenylpyrazolone sulfonic acids. As a second coupling component which may be used, there are u. a.
4-alkylphenols and 2-oxynaphthalene and their sulfonic acid, also 1-oxynaphthalene-4,8-disulfonic acid, 1-oxynaphthalene-3,8-disulfonic acid, amino-8-oxynaphthalene-4,6 - or 3,6-disulfonic acid and its N-acetyl or N-benzoyl derivatives, 2-aminonaphthalene and its sulfonic acids, 2-amino-5- (or 8-)
oxynaphthalene-7- (or -8-) sulfonic acid and its N-acyl or N-aryl derivatives.
The corresponding metal complex dyes are obtained from the disazo dyes thus obtained by reacting the metal-free dyes with metal-releasing agents, in particular with copper, chromium, cobalt, nickel, iron, aluminum or alkaline earth metal salts. The introduction of the aforementioned or other complex-forming metals can take place in an aqueous medium or in organic solvents, for which purpose one works, if necessary, in the heat and at elevated pressure. It is often advantageous to add basic agents, in particular ammonia or amines.
The parts mentioned in the examples are parts by weight.
Example 1 13.7 parts of 2-aminobeiizoic acid are dissolved in 125 parts of water and 25 parts of 36.5% hydrochloric acid at 50% and with vigorous stirring within 10 minutes with 53 parts of a 3% added aqueous formaldehyde solution.

It is coupled with a neutral solution of 25.4 parts of 1-phenyl-3-methyl-5-pyrazolone-3'-sulfonic acid and 45 parts of crystallized sodium acetate in 300 parts of water.
After the monocoupling product has been formed, a neutral solution of 33 parts of 2-oxynaphthalene-3,6-disulfonic acid in 200 parts of water and then 200 parts of a 10% sodium carbonate solution are added. After the coupling has ended, the mixed isazo dye is salted out with sodium chloride and filtered off with suction.
It is dissolved in 2000 parts of 60 water with the addition of 14 parts of 25% ammonia, the solution is heated for 2 hours after the addition of a solution of 50 parts of crystallized copper sulfate and 14 parts of 25% ammonia in 200 parts of water to 80 C, then acidified with acetic acid and salted out. After suctioning off and drying, a copper-containing dye is obtained, which really dyes chrome leather in a brownish orange.

The mixture is heated for several hours in a water bath, filtered, cooled to 0 C with 1 ', is, and 300 parts of a 2311 / nigen are added to the resulting acidic solution of 4,4'-diaminodiphenylmethane-3,3'-dicarboxylic acid with stirring pour in aqueous sodium nitrite solution.
The reddish colored tetrazo compound is stirred into a solution of 338 parts of 1,3-diphenylpyrazolone-2'-sulfonic acid sodium and 210 parts of crystallized sodium acetate in 2000 parts of water. When the coupling is complete, the metal-free dye is salted out and filtered off with suction.
The disazo dye thus obtained is dissolved in 1,000 parts of water with the addition of 7.36 parts of 25% ammonia; After adding a solution of 250 parts of crystallized copper sulfate in 1000 parts of 8.5% ammonia, the solution is stirred at 80 ° C. for one hour. You then salt out in the heat, suck off the dye and dry it.
The copper-containing disazo dye, which is obtained in almost quantitative yield, dyes chrome leather in full reddish yellow tones with good fastness properties.
