Rearview mirror with anti-glare device on motor vehicles The present invention relates to a rearview mirror with anti-glare device on motor vehicles.
The common rearview mirrors on motor vehicles have the disadvantage that they dazzle the driver of the vehicle by reflecting the full headlights of a vehicle behind. To remedy this inconvenience, manually tiltable rearview mirrors have been created, -which only reflect part of the incident light rays in the tilt position. But these tiltable rear-view mirrors also require manual operation by the driver, which distracts the driver, even if only for a short time, which is not without risk in view of the ever-increasing traffic density.
All these shortcomings are now to be eliminated according to the invention in that the mirror can be pivoted against the action of a return spring and is connected to the armature of an electromagnet connected to the vehicle battery, in whose working circuit a transistor amplifier controlled by a photo-transistor is built in, the whole thing in such a way that when the headlights of a vehicle behind you hit the photo transistor, the transistor amplifier is controlled in the sense of a current pulse from the vehicle battery to the electromagnet,
so that the mirror is pivoted and at least a part of the headlight beams reflected by it is deflected out of the driver's field of vision, while the mirror is returned to its normal position by spring action when the incidence of light is interrupted.
In the drawing, an example embodiment of the subject matter of the invention is shown, namely Figure 1 shows the arrangement of the rearview mirror with the anti-glare device on a motor vehicle, Figure 2 is a schematic representation of the photo transistor on a larger scale, Figure 3 is a schematic representation of the Swivel mirror on a larger scale and FIG. 4 is a circuit diagram of the system.
In the example shown, 1 denotes a motor vehicle. and 2 its battery, - to which the electrical systems of the vehicle such as headlights, - acoustic signal, ignition coil, etc. are connected in the usual manner. Immediately under the rear window 3 of the vehicle, a photo transistor 4b is installed in a housing 4 behind a converging lens 4a. From this a line 5 leads to a transistor amplifier 6 which is built into the battery circuit 7, 8. With a swivel mirror mounted pivotably on the axis 1.0 is designated, which is connected to the armature 11 of an electromagnet 12 built into the battery circuit 7, 8.
As soon as the headlight of a rear vehicle falls through the collecting lens 4a on the photo transistor 4b, a photo current is generated in this in a known manner, which controls the transistor amplifier 6 in such a way that a current pulse from the battery 2 to the electromagnet 12 takes place, which lasts as long as the incidence of light on the photo transistor 4b lasts. The current pulse in the electric magnet 12 pulls the armature 11 of the same and at the same time the pivoting mirror 9 is pivoted about the pivot axis 10, and thereby the light beams reflected by the mirror are deflected out of the driver's field of vision, so that the driver is prevented from being dazzled.
The described pivoting movement of the mirror 9 takes place against the action of a return spring (not shown) which tends to keep the pivoting mirror in its normal position. As soon as the photo transistor 4b is no longer irradiated by the headlights of the rear vehicle, the photocurrent is interrupted, at the same time the battery current in the circuit 7, 8 drops, the electromagnet 12 de-energized and the mirror 9 through the return spring in the Normal position is returned.
Instead of an ordinary mirror 9, a pivoting mirror can also be used, which also reflects a small, non-dazzling portion of the incident light rays into the driver's field of vision in the pivoted position.
