Description

Process for the production of aqueous solutions of hydrolysed silanes The present invention relates to a process for the production of aqueous solutions of hydrolysates of vinylalkoxysilanes with at least 2 alkoxy groups which are optionally substituted in the vinyl grape.
The method according to the invention is characterized in that the silane to be hydrolyzed is mixed with water in a ratio of 1 to 30 parts by weight of the silane to 100 parts by weight of water, the mixture is acidified and a clear, homogeneous solution of the hydrolyzate is formed stir vigorously and dilute the resulting solution with water.
It has been found that a stable, elite aqueous solution of hydrolyzate Baten of a Vinvl-alkoxv-silane can be produced by hydrolysis of the silane at concentrations of up to 30 parts by weight in 1.00 parts of water in an acidic pH range, preferably at pl, between 3 and '' 5. The initially immiscible system of silane and water is stirred vigorously until a clear, homogeneous solution is obtained, which can take 30 minutes to f hours.
Although more dilute solutions could be prepared directly, it is preferred to use 10 to 2.0 parts by weight of silane in 10O parts of water. The solution obtained in this way is then diluted with water to the extent necessary for the specific application. If the solution is prepared from the beginning with lower iSilane concentrations, this has an unfavorable effect on the stability of the solutions.
The hydrolysis of the silane and the dissolution of the hydrolyzed silane is best carried out under conditions which result in a pA of 3 to 3.5, usually by adding formic acid or another suitable acid. The higher the pH, the longer it takes to hydrolyze the silane to a clear, homogeneous solution and the lower the stability.
At pH values below 3, i.e. at pH 2 or 1, the hydrolysis proceeds as quickly as at pH 3 to 3.5, but the aqueous solutions have reduced stability. The more dilute treatment solutions, which are prepared by diluting the more concentrated solutions with water, are preferably kept at pH 3-4.
At pH 3.5, a concentrated solution can remain stable for up to 3 to 4 days without excretion, and a dilute solution can have a stability of 7 to 11? Days or more. In comparison, a concentrated solution with a pH of 5 is stable for about 24 hours and a dilute solution for about 48 hours. With PH 7, both concentrated and dilute solutions form precipitates almost instantly. Examples of making specific solutions are as follows, with parts being parts by weight.
1. A technical approach of V inyl-tri-ethoxy-silane is used to prepare the following series of solutions. A mixture of this silane with water in the specified quantity ratio is adjusted to the specified pH value with formic acid and vigorously stirred, resulting in clear, homogeneous solutions within the specified times

2.
1 part of a = chloronynyl-triethoxy-silane is mixed with 9 parts of water and the mixture is stirred vigorously for 140 minutes with the addition of formic acid to pH 3. The clear and homogeneous solution obtained remains stable for 24 hours. A 1 percent solution made from it remains. 48 hours stable.
The solutions prepared according to the invention can be used, for example, for the treatment of glass fibers and glass fiber products, which causes a greatly improved adhesion for unsaturated resins of the addition type, in which the glass fibers can be introduced as reinforcement, and the reduction of this adhesive strength under the influence of strong moisture or greatly reduced when immersed in water. Furthermore, glass fibers can also be treated with. such solutions can be made water-repellent. Solutions of hydrolyzed vinyl-triethoxysilanes are particularly suitable for the purposes mentioned.
