In manchen Fällen, z.
B. in Holzöl.

Process for the production of polymers or copolymers using substances that dry under the influence of oxygen. Unsaturated fatty acids or their esters and condensation products have been used for a long time. the a.utoxidative molecular enlargement- used for the production of varnishes, single and combination lacquers, linoleum, factice and the like.
Examples of the 1-molecule enlargement through the interaction of several unsaturated substances due to the reactivity of multiple bonds are the diene synthesis and the styrenated drying oils.
They are not used to trigger reactions of the aforementioned type. only heat and exposure, but also suitable catalysts. For example, peroxides or boron trifluoride are used for this purpose. In the case of fatty oils, metal compounds are added which act as siccatives> to accelerate the enlargement of the molecules during varnish and stand oil coating or film formation.
The process according to the invention for the preparation of Pol'y merisaten or mixed polymers using substances drying under the influence of oxygen, in particular the drying oils, is characterized in that the polymerization or i @ lischpolymerization in the presence of porphyrazines as Catalysts causes.
The drying oils and the like can be used alone or in mixtures with other unsaturated organic compounds, such as. B. styrene are present. It is generally sufficient to add porphyrazines in small amounts, for. B. those between about 0.01 1 / o to about 0.06 O / o, based on the amount of the substance to be treated.
Examples of porphyrazines that may be considered are phthaloeyanines and the oetaphenyl-po, rphyrazines. Among the phthaloeyanines, iron, manganese, lead and cobalt compounds can be mentioned, and octaphenyl-porphyrazines especially magnesium and iron compounds - apply.
Regarding the Oct.aphenyl-porphyrazine it is to be said, that by the introduction of 8 phenyl residues a substantial improvement of the solubility of the metal compounds, such as e.g. B. the iron compound is achieved! When using Phthalocy.aninen, it has proven to be advantageous to use them in solvents such as. B. pyridine, quinoline, apply.
It has also been shown that amines in small amounts, e.g. B. aniline, toluidine, dimethylaniline or quinoline, in the presence of the phthalocyanine anine, activate ekülver- enlargement.
In some cases, e.g. B. in the case of fatty oils, the solubility of the phthallocyanines, which occurs in the heat to a very low extent, is sufficient to trigger the catalytic effect.
One of the few unsaturated substances that have better solvent power is indene. The effect of the porphyrazines is in no way linked to the character of the dye. If this is eliminated, for example, by oxidative effects, the
the resulting compounds are still catalytically effective. The process will be described in more detail using the example of iron phthalocyanine.
If the green iron phthalocyanine is suspended in refined wood oil, the oil does not change color. However, if you heat it vigorously, it turns green. If the temperature is kept at around 2000 and the wood oil is heated under exactly the same conditions without additives, a clear difference in the increase in viscosity can be observed. While the wood oil without additives at the temperature mentioned becomes thick only very slowly,
The dissolved iron plithalocyanate causes the formation of a wood oil stand oil. As is known, this is normally generated at considerably higher temperatures. Indene dissolves iron phthaloeyanine in considerable quantities. deep green color. If this solution is heated, the molecular enlargement of the indene occurs much faster than if it is heated in its pure state.
The solution serves as a concentrate, which is added in small amounts to the drying oil or the mixture to be used. A concentration of iron phthalocyanine of 1:
10,000, calculated on the amount of the substance or mixture of substances to be treated, shows powerful effects. The drying of wood oil, oiticiea oil or linseed oil, especially after isomerization, is greatly accelerated. In order to eliminate the inhibitols occurring in natural oils, these are used in a more refined state.
The increase in the size of the molecules that occurs in drying oils under the influence of porphyrazines is apparently due to diene syntheses, which have recently been used to explain the drying of oils, regardless of whether the smallest amounts of oxygen must be present.
As is well known, styrene easily suffers from molecular enlargements to form liquid, or fat products. These polystyrenes are formed when heated with and without the addition of cleaning agents. From a certain degree of polymerisation onwards they no longer dissolve in fatty oils, e.g. B. in wood oil.
If you try, for example, to polymerize a mixture of styrene and wood oil by warming it up, the polystyrene will separate from the 01 .
If, however, the same mixture is mixed beforehand with small amounts of iron-phthaloeyanine, Maid is then heated, the result is homogeneous products, the viscosity of which depends on the duration of the heating. As far as they are liquid and soluble in paint solvents, show.
they have excellent drying properties and deliver wrinkle-free paint films. With these the mass green color does not have a disturbing effect, because it disappears gradually in the course of the action of the air. To prove that it is not necessary for troeknniij1, a stream of oxygen was passed through a solution of iron plitlialoeyanin in indene,
until the deep green color had disappeared and the solution had turned yellow-brown. If a small amount of this is added to wood oil, the Troeknun c is also considerably accelerated in this case.
Similar to iron phthaloeyanine, numerous other porphyryzines have an effect on unsaturated compounds. Manganese-Pht-haloey anin shortens the drying time of wood oil to? And of linseed oil with conjugated double bonds to 1/10. This also responds strongly to lead phthalocyanines. Cobalt phthalocyanine is effective with both Oitieieaöl and wood oil.
By means of the method according to the invention, you can successfully increase the size of the molecules of the substances indicated. Before, during or after the end of the process, other substances can be added that are desired in the finished product, be it for the filling or to improve the egg-like properties. For example, if it is a paint
the usual combination paints can thus be obtained in the manner described.
