Calendering machine The present invention relates to a calendering machine comprising at least two rolls, characterized by a device capable of applying pressure to at least one roll at each of its ends, this device acting, for each of said ends on one end of a lever pivoting on a main bearing of the cylinder and the other end of which is pivotably mounted on a secondary bearing located near the end of the cylinder outside the main bearing. The appended drawing represents, by way of example, an embodiment of the object of the invention. The single figure is a front elevation of a three-roll fabric calendering machine.
The machine consists of an upper cylinder 1, a central rubber cylinder 2 and a lower cylinder 3. The cylinders are meshed with each other by a gear 4, 5 and 6 at each of their ends and the lower cylinder 3 is driven by a toothed wheel 7 connected to a motor by a chain. The cylinders rotate in main bearings 8, 9 and 10 mounted near each end between vertical guide pieces 11. Under each end of the lower cylinder is a lever 12, one of the ends of which is fixed. to a cleat 13 fixed to the frame of the machine and the other end is fixed to a cleat 14 of a secondary bearing 15 of one end of the cylinder 3 beyond the main bearing 10, said lever being articulated at 16 at level 10.
Above each end of the upper cylinder 1 is a lever 17, the outer end of which is fixed to a cleat 18 of a secondary bearing 19 of the outer end of the cylinder 1, its articulation 20 on the bearing main 8 and its inner end being attached to the moving part 21 of a hydraulic cylinder 22 mounted on the frame of the machine. Hydraulic fluid can be introduced or expelled from any end of cylinder 22 by means of a hand-operated valve 23.
If fluid is introduced at the upper part of the jacks 22 so as to force the inner ends of the levers 17 down, each of the main bearings 8 is pressed down and each of the outer ends of the cylinder 1 is pushed. upwards as indicated by the arrows. This results in cylinder 1 tending to bend so that its pressure against central cylinder 2 tends to increase, thus compensating for any tendency for the cylinder to bend in the opposite direction as tissue passes. between cylinders 1 and 2.
At the same time, the main bearings 8, 9 and 10 are all pressed down so that the levers 12 fixed to the cleats 13, exert torques of force on the ends of the lower cylinder 3 as indicated by the arrows while tending in bending said cylinder to increase its pressure against cylinder 2 at the center of the machine.
