Bei dem Handapparat- nach vorliegender Erfindung sind die vorangehend genannten Erfordernisse, das heisst die Möglichkeit der regalierbaren Abgabe des Inhalts einer oder mehrerer mit flüchtigem Anla.ssdruckfluidum gefüllter Patronen, in den Einlass einer Br enn- kra.ftmasehine erfüllt;
Handset for introducing a starting fluid into an internal combustion engine C1e # @ Eiistaild of the present invention is a handset for introducing a starting fluid into an internal combustion engine from a cartridge containing the fluid under pressure.
In the case of an internal combustion engine that is to be cranked by hand, as it is built, for example, as an outboard motor, to drive lawn runners, washing machines or the like, or as auxiliary power generation systems. starting the machine often, even with favorable humidity and temperature conditions. associated with difficulties.
The main reason for this is that these machines can only be brought to a low speed by hand, and only for a few turns of the shaft. It is true that highly flammable, volatile starting fluids have been used to start internal combustion engines. It turned out, however, that the suitable fluids are so volatile that their. Storage in usual borrowed containers is difficult.
Furthermore, there is always a risk of fire or explosion when storing large quantities of easily inflammable materials. For this reason, a means has long been sought to enable the reliable and effective storage of small amounts of liquid starting fluids and to supply the fluid in the form of mist or aerosol in the desired amount to the intake of the internal combustion engine. In U.S. Patent No. 2.6,
01211 is a dispensing device for dispensing pressure fluidum from a metal cartridge, which is particularly suitable for permanent installation in the Masehine to be approved, for example in the drive motors of automobiles, tractors, aircraft, ships, etc., where the Total contents of one or more cartridges filled with pressure fluidum can be fed to the inlet of the machine.
The arrangement described in this patent is particularly suitable for starting diesel and foreign ignition engines. However, if the machines to be approved are not equipped with a permanently installed fluid dispensing device, a handset is particularly useful, as is the case with larger, reu machines, when several cartridges are required to start the machine at particularly low outside temperatures.
Even for starting small machines with external ignition, the use of a device for dispensing the full filling of a metal cartridge. As described in the patent mentioned., Not particularly useful, since the small machine is not at all. can process the entire content of the cartridge for tempering.
In the case of the handset according to the present invention, the above-mentioned requirements, that is to say the possibility of regulable delivery of the contents of one or more cartridges filled with volatile Anla.ssdruckfluidum, in the inlet of a combustion engine;
the apparatus is. In accordance with the invention, characterized by a closed expansion chamber into which the outlet of a filling device opens, to which the cartridge is connected and which contains breakthrough means for opening the attached cartridge end and a closing element for closing the expansion chamber when the cartridge is removed,
as well as by a manually operated valve in an outlet line of the expansion chamber for the delivery of a desired amount of fluid to the inlet of the combustion machine.
In the accompanying drawing is. the subject matter of the invention is for example Darge; it shows: F'ig. 1 shows a vertical section through a handset according to the invention for delivering a starting fluid from a metal cartridge to an internal combustion engine, FIG. 2 shows a plan view of FIG. 1 and FIG. 3 shows a view in the direction of arrows 3-3 in F ' ig.1.
The drawing shows a handset which has a housing 10, in the bottom part of which an expansion chamber 11 of a certain volume is provided. The expansion chamber 11 is practically completely sealed off from the atmosphere by a slide 12. The slide 12, which can be actuated by a piston and responds to pressure, is arranged in a filling device 13.
The outlet of the filling device 13 opens directly into the expansion chamber 11. both the volatile fluid and the pressurized gas serving as the propellant from a single, sealed cartridge 17 into the expansion chamber 11.
is introduced, a hardened steel through-bolt 18 is arranged in the filling device 13 so that it breaks through the breakable end 19 of the cartridge 17 when the said cartridge end 19 with the Passage of the filling device 13 is brought into a completely tight connection. Said sealing takes place by means of a sealing ring 20 enclosing the outlet end 19 of the cartridge.
The die ring 2i0 is inserted into a threaded connector 13a of the filling device 13, which is provided with an external thread 22 and inserted into a threaded hole of a cartridge holder 21.
A manually operable valve 1-1 is arranged between an outlet pipe 1, 3 and an atomizing nozzle 16. The outlet pipe 15 lies with its inlet in the area of the bottom of the expansion chamber 11, the nozzle 16 being intended to
to deliver a jet of fluffy fluid into the inlet of a combustor.
As described in earlier referenced US Patent No. '601A1, the cartridge 17 may be filled with any suitable volatile material that is pressurized with a pressure gas.
The penetrable end 19 of the cartridge 17 is closed after the cartridge has been filled, for example by whitening the closure organ, in such a way that the (iesa.in.tinhalt the cartridge) is under a high pressure of, for example -10 kg / em = and at can be stored at very high temperatures without the risk of leakage or contamination.
While such high pressures are desirable for starting large internal combustion engines, where two or more cartridges are required for starting, especially when the outside temperature is low, such pressures cause particular difficulties when it comes to a measured amount of the To deliver the total contents of the cartridge to the inlet of the internal combustion engine.
In order to overcome this difficulty, in the apparatus of the present type, the total contents of the cartridge 17 are introduced into the expansion canister 11 through the filling device 13 via the slide valve 12. The used cartridge 17 advantageously contains approximately 10 em3 of a volatile compound which contains dietary ether and a gaseous component such as methane or ethylene, while the volume of the expansion chamber 11 is approximately 75 em3.
While in the simplest and cheapest case a single cartridge 17 is emptied into the expansion chamber 11, with its contents. If desired, aneh can be used in several operations, it is also possible to fill the contents of a plurality of cartridges one after the other through the filling device 13 into the expansion chamber 11.
Uni clas I2, to allow the contents of several cartridges to be filled into the expansion chamber 11, is the slide 12., which is in the outlet part. the felling device 13 is arranged, actuat.igbax dureli a piston. A shaft 26, which can move back and forth, is moved by the pressures occurring at the opposite ends of a piston 23 which is made of a starch with the shaft 26.
Normally, the shaft 26 assumes a position in which the expansion chamber 11 is closed off from the passage in the shaft 26. For this purpose, the Seha.ft is loaded by a helical spring 25. When using the apparatus, however, the shaft 26 is pushed ver by the effect of the pressures occurring at the opposite ends of the piston 23 that the transverse channels 24 in the slide are exposed.
When the cartridge 17 with its seal 20 is brought out of engagement with the filling device 13, the fluid pressure in the chamber 11 and acting on the piston 23 presses the shaft 26 upwards so that no more fluid flows through the Transverse channels 24 can escape from the expansion chamber 11.
As can be seen particularly in FIGS. 2 and 3, the cartridge holder 21 has two wings 21a and 21b, which make it easier for the breakable end 19 of the cartridge 17 to be pressed against the retractable pin 18, whereby the shaft 26 acts as a means of opening the sight. bers 1 2 is moved into the position shown in Fig. 1,
so that through the hollow through-hole pin 18 and the transverse channels 24 in the shaft. 26 a free connection between the outlet of the filling device 13 and the cartridge 17 is created. The connection created in this way between the cartridge 17 and the expansion chamber 11 enables the chamber 11 to be filled with the entire contents, that is to say with the liquid and / or gaseous contents of the cartridge 17.
When the cartridge 17 is removed from the Füllvor device 13, the shaft N is brought into its closed position, in which the slide 12 closes the Expansionskam mer 11 tight to the outside. This is caused by the combined action of the spring 25 and the residual gas pressure in the chamber 11, which acts on the lower end of the piston 23. To prevent steel splinters or other foreign bodies from getting through the filling device 13 into the expansion chamber 11, a tubular sieve 27 is provided on the outlet part of the filling device 13.
Volatile fluids from the cartridge 17 can, after they are expanded in the chamber 11 down to the desired operating pressure, in any desired amount through the outlet pipe 15 and the nozzle 16 to the inlet of an internal combustion engine. The fluid outflow from the outlet pipe 15 is regulated by means of the manually operated valve 14.
This valve 14 can be actuated by angular rotation of a hand lever 36, which is designed as a ring, which is articulated on the housing 10 and can be rotated about the hinge points 37. In the example shown, the hand lever is also seated as a pivot pin serving wire 38 (Fug. 1), which leads through the diametrically opposite hinge points 37.
The valve 14, which prevents the escape of starting fluid from the expansion chamber 11, is held in its closed position by a helical spring 39, which spring between the end of the hand lever ring 3G and the upper part of the housing 10 will keep it in a compressed position. In order to be able to prevent unintentional actuation of the valve 14 and thus the escape of volatile medium from the expansion chamber 11, a safety margin is provided,
which is shown in Fig. 3 in its operative position. The safety lock is designed and arranged in such a way that, in its operative position, it holds the nozzle 16 and the end of the actuating ring 36 in such a relative position that the valve 14 cannot be opened.
This security lock has. in the preferred embodiment shown, a hook member 30 which is articulated to a support on the housing 10, said support being in the drawing by the screw. 31 shows.
In order to be able to actuate the valve 1-1, the hook member 30 must be pivoted counterclockwise from the position shown in FIG. 3 in such a way that it releases the actuating ring 36.
In the preferred illustrated embodiment of the fluid dispensing handset, the nozzle is designed in such a way that it generates a jet of mist when the device is being used with the fluid pressures normally prevailing in the expansion chamber 11. In the example shown, Diise 1,6 has a filter 32.
As FIG. 1 shows, the valve 1.1 has a valve seat 33 against which the outlet end of the outlet pipe 15 can rest. In order to avoid unwanted escape of liquid starting medium from the expansion chamber 11 during the time in which the actuating ring 36 is depressed, a sealing ring 34 is provided which completely covers part of the outlet pipe 1.5 tightly encloses.
The dielectric unit 31 and the valve seat 33- are made of polytetrafluoroethylene in the preferred embodiment.
