Device for treating a liquid with a gas stream
With the devices used in the chemical industry for treating a liquid with a gas stream, as long and pronounced a cross-flow as possible is always sought, in which the liquid is forced to travel a long, horizontal path by appropriate spiral guidance or the like and in the course of which it is forced is penetrated by the gases introduced in the vertical direction.
The peculiarity of these devices - in contrast to abortion columns, for example - is that in this case the contact of the gases with the liquid takes place only once, and as briefly and intensively as possible, in order to avoid undesirable side reactions should.
However, this requirement can often not be met with the known devices, or only in a very imperfect manner, because the course of the chemical reaction requires a certain time, which results in a liquid volume for the device in question, which with the previously known arrangements in turn again be a considerable liquid level, and thus largely counteracts the aforementioned requirement.
Another disadvantage of the usual devices results from the fact that, for example, when producing ethylene oxide, the use of liquids with solid substances suspended in them - in this case milk of lime - due to the resulting tendency to form deposits can give rise to disruptions.
The device according to the invention for treating a liquid with a gas flow, which flows through the liquid only once in a cross flow, is characterized in that it is arranged around a central ver tica. Oil pipe for the gas supply has steps arranged in the form of a spiral staircase, each of which is designed as a sector-shaped, horizontally lying surface provided with inclined passage slots for the gas, which surface forms the upper limit of a cavity through which the gas flows, the entirety of the cavities being in the shape of a spiral staircase is arranged around the central tube.
The attached drawing shows an exemplary embodiment of the device according to the invention, namely:
1 shows a longitudinal section partially in view of a device for treating a liquid with a gas stream,
Fig. 2 is a plan view of a step,
2a and 2b each have a variant of 2,
3 shows a development of a partial cylinder section along the line X-X in FIG. 2, drawn on a larger scale and seen in the direction of the arrow,
4 shows a vertical section through a step,
Fig. 5 and 7 details of Fig. 2b and 2a,
Fig.
5a shows a longitudinal section through the slots according to FIGS. 5 and
FIG. 6 shows a detail of FIG. 5.
The housing of the device for treating a liquid with a gas flow is denoted by 10. It has a cylindrical design and is provided with a removable cover 11 through which an inlet connection 8 for the liquid is guided.
Around a central tube 1 arranged in the vertical axis of the device, which is welded into the removable cover 11, arched floors 2 are arranged with the curvature downward in the shape of a spiral staircase, each floor 2 with its adjacent floor, seen in the direction of flow of the liquid a vertical wall 3 is connected.
In each space formed by the central tube 1 and the near upturned edge 4 of the relevant floor 2, a sheet metal plate 5 is inserted into U-shaped supports 6, which, as can be seen in particular from FIG. 4, on the tube 1 or inside are arranged at the same level on the edge of the relevant floor 2, so that the plate 5 is horizontal. Each plate 5 is provided with very much running through slit 5a (FIG. 3) and forms a sector-shaped step of the device. The steps are arranged in the form of a spiral staircase around the central tube 1.
At the same time, each plate 5 represents the upper limit of the cavity 2a formed by it, the relevant floor 2 and the two corresponding walls 3, through which the gas flows, the entirety of the cavities 2a being arranged in a spiral staircase around the central tube 1.
The inlet connection 8 opens into the device a little above the uppermost first stage I, and a baffle 9 is provided in the area of this garbage dump, which is covered by an additional liquid guide 7 (FIG. 3). Through the walls 3, which protrude slightly upwards over the corresponding plates 5, an overflow is formed at the end of each stage, seen in the direction of flow of the liquid.
Sheet metal plates 15 and 16, as shown in FIGS. 7 and 5, can also be used in places of the plates 5 according to FIG. According to FIGS. 5 and 6, the plate 16 is provided with punched and then bent-down passages 17 in the shape of an eye. According to Fig. 7, the plate 15 has an end face which is very coarse towards the upper plate surface and which occupies a radial position in the device and which is provided with grooves 18 so that when two such plates 15 are assembled in the butt joints, penetration stalks 18 are produced which run very closely to the upper plate surface , as indicated in Fig. 2a.
In the embodiment according to FIGS. 3 or 2, 2b and 5, each plate 5 or 16 forms a step. In the embodiment according to FIGS. 2a and 7, each step is essentially formed from two plates 15.
The plates 5 or 15 or 16 can if necessary made of corrosion-resistant material, such as. B. graphite, be made.
In the embodiment according to FIG. 2a, the plates 5 are pushed into the device in such a way that the grooves 18 located in the butt joints of two plates 15 are directed in the falling direction of the spiral staircase formed in the manner described.
In the central tube 1 protrude two koaxia! Gas-feeding tubes 13, 14 lying inside (FIGS. 1 and 4) in such a way that individual cavities 2a can be charged with gas in an adjustable amount independently of others.
In Fig. 2, 2a and 2b, a subdivision into eight levels I-VIII has been chosen for a visual cave passage, but any other subdivision is of course possible.
Subsequent sliding out of the inserted plates 5 or 15 or 16 is prevented by the vertical wall 3 serving as a transition from one step to the next, as can be seen from FIG. 3:
The method of operation of the device described is as follows: Creation of any dead corners in the flow of liquid, which reduces the risk of deposits to a minimum.
