Device for adjusting the position of an electric light source inside a headlight reflector The present invention relates to a device for adjusting the position of an electric light source inside a headlight reflector. Headlight of the type comprising a socket intended to receive the electric light source and capable of being moved relative to the reflector by means of a control member accessible from outside the housing of the headlight.
In adjustment devices of this type, currently in use on cycle headlights, the socket slides in a guide placed in the axis of the headlight housing and fixed in the bottom thereof. This construction has a relatively high cost price, due to the number of parts required and the numerous assembly operations. The socket displacement control member is located in the axis of the headlight housing and emerges from the latter at its rear end. This arrangement results in a break in the parabolic shape of the housing which is particularly sensitive to the eye and detrimental to the aesthetic appearance of the assembly.
The rear end of the headlight housing is, moreover, often hidden by the handlebar holder of the cycle and, therefore, the member for controlling the movements of the socket is difficult to access.
The present invention relates to an adjustment device of this type and which makes it possible to eliminate the drawbacks mentioned by the fact that said bush is constituted by the end of an arm capable of oscillating and made integral with the housing of the headlight.
This arm is preferably arranged perpendicularly to the axis of the reflector and made integral with the housing at a point located outside the axis of this housing. In addition, the adjustment member is arranged outside the axis of the housing, in order to make it easily accessible and so as to maintain the aesthetic appearance of the shape of the housing.
The appended drawing represents, schematically and by way of example, three embodiments of the adjustment device, object of the invention, suitable for a lighting headlight for cycles.
Fig. 1 is a side view of the lighthouse, some parts broken away and others in section.
Fig. 2 is a partial front view of the reflector and of a support.
Figs. 3 and 4 are partial views of a second embodiment.
Fig. 5 is a partial view of a third embodiment.
The lighthouse shown in the accompanying drawing com carries a housing 1, provided with a bezel 2 carrying a crystal 3. A parabolic reflector 4 is clamped to the edge of the glass 3 by means of elastic elements 5. The bezel is held on. the housing by a locking device comprising a tab 6 having a certain elasticity and having an orifice 7, cooperating with a lug 8.
This type of lighthouse being known and used for many years, in a very general manner, will not be described in more detail here. It suffices to note that the position of the reflector 4 inside the housing is defined by a shoulder 9 of the housing, on which the net read comes to rest.
The light source of this headlight is constituted by an incandescent lamp 10, the base of which is screwed into a socket 11, carried by an arm capable of oscillating 12 and con formed so as to bear at 13 on the housing 1. This arm comprises a fixing part 14, rigidly fixed to the internal wall of the headlight housing.
In the embodiment shown in FIG. 1, the fastener 14, the arm 12 and the sleeve 11 come from a piece of manufacture.
A contact 15 and a connection terminal 16, electrically isolated from the arm 12, are carried by the latter.
In the embodiment shown, the socket intended to receive the base of the lamp 10 comes from a workpiece with the arm 12. This socket is constituted by a circular opening 17, made in the end of the arm. 12 and the diameter of which is approximatly equal to the internal diameter of the thread of the base of the lamp. In addition, the edge of this circular opening 17 is stamped so as to form a helix the pitch of which is equal to that of the thread of the base, so as to form a thread allowing the base to be screwed.
The outer edge of this sleeve has two centering bosses 18, shaped and dimensioned so as to be able to slide along the walls of a central opening 19 of the reflector.
The free end of the arm 12 also has a threaded bore 20, into which is screwed the end of a rod 21, carrying a control member 22, accessible from the outside of the housing 1. The axial displacements of the rod 21 are limited by a collar 23 and by the front face 24 of the control member 22 which are located on either side of the wall of the housing 1. This control member is arranged outside the axis 28 of the headlight housing, so as to maintain the aesthetic appearance of the housing and to make the component 22 more easily accessible.
The operation of the device described is as follows When the base of the incandescent lamp is screwed into the socket 11, the central contact 26 of the base is resiliently pressed on the contact 15. Thus, the filament of this lamp is connected, from on the one hand, to the housing 1 and to the ground via the socket 11, the arm 12 and the fixing part 14 and, on the other hand, to a conductor 27 via the contact 15 and the terminal 16. By actuating the control member control 22 in one direction or in the other, a resilient deformation of the loop 25 is caused which fulfills the role of a hinge connecting the fastening piece 14 to the arm 12. Consequently, the bush 11 is moved along an arc of a circle approximately tangent to the optical axis 28 of the reflector 4.
The radius of this circular arc being, however, very large compared to the amplitude of the displacement necessary for adjusting the position of the filament 29, the latter is practically displaced axially along the optical axis 28. The bosses 18, located in a plane perpendicular to the plane of oscillation of the arm 12 and cooperating with the walls of the central opening 19 of the reflector 4, ensure the centering of the filament 29 on the optical axis.
The rod 21 and the control member 22 are located in the vertical plane of symmetry of the housing 1 (which merges with the plane of the drawing) and the control member is located above the optical axis of the headlight. This arrangement makes it possible to produce a lighthouse provided with an aesthetic adjustment device. We note, in fact, that this control member practically does not break the parabolic shape of the housing and adapts very well to the latter. In addition, this control member being disposed outside the axis of the housing, it is easily accessible when the headlight is attached to the cycle.
Figs. 3 and 4 partially show an embodiment in which the arm 12 capable of oscillating is fixed to the housing 1 by tabs 30 passing through openings 31 formed in the housing and folded over the outer face of the latter. The support points 33 constitute the axis of oscillation of the arm 12.
These tabs could also be welded by any known means to the outer face of the headlight housing. In this case, the end of the arm 12 is rigidly fixed to the housing and an opening 32, made in the lower part of the arm, gives the latter the elasticity necessary to allow the movements of its end presenting the sleeve 11.
In the embodiment shown in FIG. 5, the arm 12 is connected to the fixing part 14 by a hinge 29. In order to eliminate the play, this adjustment device could be provided with a spring acting on the arm 12, and tending to hold the collar 23. or the face 24 applied against the wall of the housing.
The advantages of the device described in relation to the devices proposed to date derive from its great simplicity of design, which makes it possible to reduce the number of parts used in its manufacture and the number of operations required for its assembly.
