Process for the production of vat dyes The present invention relates to a process for the production of vat dyes, which is characterized in that metoxazones of the general structure are used
EMI0001.0007
with ammonia or a primary amine at elevated temperature. The implementation is happening. either with ammonia or with primary aliphatic, alicyclic or aromatic amines.
The 1letoxazones used can also be substituted, especially in the ortho position of the point of attachment of the anthraquinonyl radical, for example: by halogen, nitro or amino groups. The implementation is advantageously carried out at increased pressure. Instead of ammonia, ammonia-releasing agents can also be used under the reaction conditions.
Metoxazones of the type mentioned, which can also be understood as internal anhydrides from aminoanthraquinone-o-carboxylic acids or as mixed anhydrides from such acids and anthraquinone-carboxylic acids, can be produced, for example, according to the method of French patent specification no. 847152.
During the reaction, the oxygen atom of the metoxazone ring is apparently exchanged for an imino or substituted imino group, and the corresponding pyrimidones are presumably formed. The compounds obtained are valuable dyes or intermediates here for.
The parts mentioned in the following examples are parts by weight.
EMI0002.0001
are heated with 1000 parts of 25% aqueous ammonia in a closed vessel for 5 hours with stirring at 130.degree. After cooling, the compound that has been eliminated is suctioned off and washed with water. out and dry them. A violet-tinged dark crystal powder is obtained which dissolves in concentrated sulfuric acid with a brownish-yellow color and dyes cotton from a violet-red vat in strong corinthian-tinged red-violet shades of very good fastness properties.
Dyes of a slightly different hue are obtained if the exposure time is varied in the range from about 2 to 10 hours and the reaction temperatures in the range from about 100 to 200 ° C .; also the concentration of the ammonia solution, furthermore the type of solution, whether aqueous or alcoholic ammonia. of influence on the hue of the dyes obtained. A dye almost identical to the one in accordance with paragraph 1 is obtained if gaseous ammonia or urea is allowed to act on the metoxazone in the presence of nitrobenzene at a higher temperature.
If, instead of the metoxazone mentioned in paragraph 1, its halogen substitution products are used, dyes with similar properties are obtained.
The 1-etoxazone mentioned in paragraph 1, which can also be understood as the internal anhydride of 1-amino-anthraquinone-2-carboxylic acid, can be prepared, for example, in a mixture of 1150 parts of nitrobenzene and 135 parts of 1 -Aminoanthraquinone-2-carboxylic acid and 13 parts of anhydrous iron chloride at 20 C while stirring 95 parts of thionyl chloride, then slowly heated to 80 to 90 C and kept stirring at this temperature,
until the resulting reaction product has become insoluble in benzene and no longer contains any free 1-aminoanthraquinone-2-carboxylic acid. Then one sucks off while still warm, the residue is washed with warm nitrobenzene and finally with benzene and dried. It represents a deep violet-tinged red crystal powder.
Example z 15 parts of the metoxazone
EMI0002.0036
(prepared according to the process described in the last paragraph of Example 1 from 1-amino-4-nitroanthraquinone-2-carboxylic acid) are heated with 500 parts of 25 liters aqueous ammonia for 5 hours with stirring at 180 ° C. After cooling, the precipitate is filtered off, washed with water and dried.
This gives a black powder which dissolves in concentrated sulfuric acid with a brown-orange color and dyes cotton aua violet-tinged, dark vat in strong, gray-tinged violet tones. Example 3 10 parts of 2-aminoanthraquinone -3- carboxylic acid produced Metoxa.zons (cf.
Patent specification No. 847152, Example 9) are heated with 500 parts of 25% aqueous ammonia for 2 hours with stirring at 180 ° C. Sucks after cooling. the precipitate that has separated out is washed off with water and dried. him. You get. such a yellow-brown powder that dissolves in concentrated sulfuric acid with a yellow color and dyes cotton from an olive-like yellow vat in yellow tones.
Similar dyes are obtained if the ammonia is acted upon under these conditions, for example at a lower temperature.
If one uses its halogen, amino or nitro substitution products instead of the above-mentioned nletoxazone, dyes with similar properties are obtained.
The dye obtained in accordance with paragraph 1 of this example can, if desired, be converted into a modified vat dye as follows; 6 parts of methyl p-toluenesulfate are allowed to flow into a mixture of 75 parts of trichlorobenzene, 10 parts of potassium carbona.t and 5 parts of the dye obtained according to this example at about 200 ° C. and the mixture is stirred for so long 200 C, until a sample dyed onto cotton from the vat no longer shows any change with sodium hydroxide solution.
After cooling to about 90 ° C., the dye, which has been newly changed in the form of orange-yellow needles, is suctioned off and washed out with trichlorobenzene, alcohol and water. After drying, a yellow-brown crystal powder is obtained that can be recrystallized from nitrobenzene for purification. The new dye dissolves in concentrated sulfuric acid with a yellow color and dyes cotton from a brownish olive vat in clear golden-orange tones with excellent authenticity.
EXAMPLE 50 parts of the metoxazone used according to Example 1 are heated in a closed vessel with 500 parts of 25% aqueous methylamine solution for 5 hours at 130 to 135 ° C. with stirring. After cooling, the reaction product, which has crystallized out in dark needles, is suctioned off, washed out with water and dried.
After recrystallization of the dye thus obtained from trichlorobenzene. receives. a dark crystal pyilver, which dissolves in concentrated sulfuric acid with a slightly brownish color and dyes cotton from a yellow-brown vat in real violet-tinged red tones.
If n-butylamine is used instead of methylamine, a dye with similar properties is obtained.
If the metoxazone from the 2-Aniinoanthraehi- non-3-carbonsKtire is used for the implementation in paragraph 1, a dye is obtained which dyes cotton in yellow tones from a yellow-brown vat.
Example .5 A mixture of 5 parts of the metoxazone obtainable according to Example 1, paragraph 4 from 1-aminoanthraquinone-2-carboxylic acid, 50 parts cyclohexylamine and 5 parts sodium carbonate is stirred for a long time 135 C until no more starting material can be detected and a sample dissolved in 90% sulfuric acid shows a pure violet solution color on the addition of para formaldehyde.
The reaction mixture is then diluted with lletha.nol, the precipitate which has separated out is filtered off with suction, washed with methanol and water and dried. It dissolves in concentrated sulfuric acid with a weak, brownish-red color and dyes cotton from a yellow-brown vat in real Bordeaux tones.
If one uses dodecylamine or stearylamine instead of C; velohexylamine, one obtains similar dyes. Example .. 6 A mixture of 10 parts according to Bei.
Game 1, paragraph 4 available metoxazone from 1-aminoanthraquinone-2-carboxylic acid, 100 parts of aniline and 10 parts of sodium carbonate is heated to 180 ° C., then after addition of 5 parts of sodium methylate, stirred at this temperature , until a sample dissolves in 90% sulfuric acid with an olive color and this color changes to a pure red-violet after the addition of paraformaldehyde.
The reaction mixture is then allowed to cool to about 80 ° C., diluted with methanol, filtered off with suction, the precipitated sediment removed, washed out with methanol and water and dried. For cleaning, the dark powder obtained is dissolved in concentrated sulfuric acid and deposited as sulfate by adding) water, which is filtered off with suction, evaporated with sulfuric acid of the final concentration and finally with water and dried.
The result is a black powder which dissolves in 96% sulfuric acid with an olive color and dyes cotton from a brown-orange vat in blue, stalky Bordeaux tones with good authenticity properties. The dye can also serve as a starting material for the production of other dyes.
Iran uses other primary aromatic amines instead of aniline, e.g. For example, its derivatives substituted by halogen, alkyl, oxy, methoxy or nitro groups, dyes with similar properties are obtained.
In the same way, from the anthraquinone-2-carboxylic acid chloride and 2- Aminoantlira.ehinon-3-earbonsäitre produced metoxazone with aniline or its substitute products, dyes that dye cotton from a red vat in yellow shades, which are also used as intermediates for other dyes can serve.
Example i 50 parts of the metoxazone obtainable by reacting 2-chloroanthraquinone-3-carbonic acid chloride and 1-aminoanthraquinone-2-carboxylic acid are mixed with 500 parts of 25% aqueous ammonia Stirred in a closed vessel at 140 ° C. for 5 hours. After cooling, it is filtered off with suction and the residue is washed with it. Water out and dry it.
To clean it, the dye obtained is dissolved in 96% sulfuric acid and separated off as sulfate by adding water, which is filtered off with suction. and washed with sulfuric acid of the final concentration. By boiling the residue with water, filtration, washing out with water and drying, a red-brown powder is obtained which dissolves in concentrated sulfuric acid with a yellow color and dyes cotton in orange-tinged brown shades from a brown pot.
Example 8 15 parts of the metoxazone obtainable by reacting ant.liraquinone-2-carboxylic acid chloride with 1-amino-a.nthraehinone-2-carboxylic acid are mixed with 300 parts of 25% aqueous ammonia in closed vessel heated to 13.5 to 140 ° C. for 5 hours while stirring. After cooling, the precipitate is suctioned off, washed with water and dried.
After the usual cleaning with the sulfate according to Example 9, paragraph 1, a yellow powder is obtained which dissolves in concentrated sulfuric acid with a yellow color and dyes cotton in brownish yellow tones from a red-brown vat.
Similar dyes are obtained in an analogous manner with the metoxazone from anthraquinone-2-carboxylic acid chloride and 2-amino-anthraquinone-3-carboxylic acid, the metoxazone from anthraquinone-2-carboxylic acid chloride and 2-aminoanthraquinone-1-carboxylic acid, or the metoxazone Anthra, quinone-1-carboxylic acid chloride and 2-aminoanthraquinone-3-earbonic acid.
Example 9 A mixture of 15 parts of the metoxazone from anthraquinone-2-carboxylic acid chloride and 1-aminoanthraquinone-2-carboxylic acid and 300 parts of 36% aqueous methylamine solution is stirred in a closed vessel for 5 hours Heated from 135 to 140 C.
After the usual work-up and recrystallization of the initially obtained product from nitrobenzene, a brownish-yellow crystal powder is obtained which dissolves in 96% sulfuric acid with a pale yellow color and dyes cotton from a brown vat in real grainy yellow tones.
If butylamine is used instead of methylamine, a dye is obtained that also dyes cotton in yellow tones from a brown vat. Example 10 In a mixture of 5 parts of the metoxazone obtainable by heating 1-nitroa.nthraquinone-2-carboxylic acid chloride and 2-aminoanthraquinone-3-carboxylic acid in nitrobenzene to about 200 ° C., 10 parts of sodium carbonate and 100 parts of nitrobenzene are passed in gaseous ammonia at 200 C with stirring until
until the nitro group has been replaced by the amino group and the lletoxa.zon ring oxygen atom by the imino group. Then it is suctioned off while hot, the residue is washed with hot nitrobenzene, methanol and water and dried.
If necessary, it is dissolved in 96% sulfuric acid for the purpose of cleaning and impurities separated by careful addition of water, from which they are filtered off. By pouring it into water, dark flakes are obtained from the filtrate, which are filtered off, washed with water and dried.
A dark dye powder is obtained in this way, which dissolves in concentrated sulfuric acid with a brownish-yellow color and dyes cotton in brownish Corinthian shades from an olive-brown vat.
Example 11 A mixture of 5 parts of the metoxazone obtainable from anthraquinone-2-carbonic acid and 2-aminoanthraquinone-3-carboxylic acid, 30 parts of dodecylamine and 5 parts of sodium carbonate is used heated to 200 to 210 C with stirring until no more metoxazone can be detected.
The reaction mixture is then allowed to cool, it is diluted with methanol and the precipitate which has separated out after prolonged standing is filtered off with suction and washed with it. Methanol and water and dries it. A yellow powder is obtained which dissolves in concentrated sulfuric acid and in benzene with a yellow color and dyes cotton in yellow tones from a brown vat.
