Process for the preparation of water-insoluble, releasable quinoid dyes. - 'The present invention relates to a process for the preparation of water-insoluble, connectable quinoid dyes. The products produced according to the invention are particularly suitable for dyeing due to their size, surface shape and percentage distribution of the particle size. Printing and stamping of textiles.
Vat dyes of the types described below are usually obtained as large, coarse crystals or highly aggregated, amorphous masses. When used in unchanged form, they therefore have very poor adhesive strength and poor coloring power. The coloring potential and processability can only be brought to a maximum value by means of a preparation in which the color particles take on very specific, desired properties.
There are various known methods for preparing vat dyes, including the so-called sour dough. The latter can basically be done in two ways, either by dissolving the dye in concentrated acid or by slurrying the dye in a large volume of acid, keeping the acid concentration so low that no noticeable dissolution occurs, and then pouring it into water. Both types of treatment can be broken down. Use dyes for which the fiction, contemporary method is also suitable.
But they have the disadvantage that they require large amounts of acid, which are generally very corrosive. Quite apart from the economic side, this poses serious problems in practice. Problems, e.g. B. in terms of industrial hygiene and safety and the disposal of waste acids.
Another argument against the use of the methods mentioned is that the products obtained with them can turn out differently from batch to batch and are unsuitable for certain types of application and that the dye concentration in the filter cake that is ultimately obtained is low. This never drige dye content means increased cost of handling and the need for tedious additional processing, e.g. B. by hydraulic pressing or by distillation, if marketable. Products to be obtained.
This was recognized by the processors, and various improvements to the usual sour pasting have therefore been proposed. One of these proposals provides for the acidic dye solution to be supplied to the water in what is known as a vortex flow; - Another suggestion concerns the spraying of the dye solution into the water. These variants allow sie. certain properties have a positive effect, but so far only with the simultaneous deterioration of other properties.
It does not solve the fundamental problems of the acidic content with regard to economy, high quality and easy handling of the products.
Processing methods have also been proposed in which no acidic dough takes place, e.g. B. to dissolve the dye in its leuco form and development of the vat by oxidation. One. US patent describes grinding the color particles under certain conditions. However, such an approach is costly and offers various practical implementation difficulties.
If it is also considered that the products obtained in this way are in no way better than those obtained with sour dough, it becomes understandable that the types of treatment mentioned cannot really be implemented in practice.
The present invention relates to a process which, using acidic pasting, leads to products with optimal particle properties and which avoids the economic and hygienic disadvantages of the aforementioned methods, especially the need to dispose of large amounts of waste acid. The process according to the invention is characterized in that a mixture in the form of a doughy, kneadable mass, which is 0.5 to 5 parts by weight of a strong, liquid,
does not oxidize the acid which does not react with the dye to be treated and contains a concentration of 68 to 100 percent by weight, milled with shear and the milled product obtained is diluted with water.
Suitable acids are chloroacetic acid, phosphoric acid, sulfuric acid and liquid organic sulfonic acids, such as methyl sulfonic acid and the like, which have a concentration between 68 and 100 percent by weight. exhibit. The best results are obtained with sulfuric acid, which is therefore given preference.
It has already been mentioned that the ratio of dye to acid should be in the range from 1: 0.5 to 1: 5 . With a smaller amount of acid, the dye is not completely penetrated, and the degree of shear during grinding is not particularly good. Higher amounts of acid did not result in sufficient shear and lead to lumpy masses in which not all of the dye particles were wetted by the acid. It is possible to increase the amount of acid after the mass has been under shear for some time to make it easier to empty the mill.
A Werner Pfleiderer type of mill is to be preferred (manufactured by Werner and Pfleiderer, Maschinenfabriken, Stuttgart-Feuerbach, Theodorstrasse 10, Germany; these mills are described in the Achema yearbook, 1953-1955, published by Herbert Bretschneider for the German Society for Chemical Apparatus, EV
Frankfurt am Main), but other constructions of the same type can also be used, provided that they can exert a shear effect on the mass. The temperature to be maintained during acid milling can be varied over a considerable area. Out. For economic reasons, we recommend working at 20-50 C because uncoated tools can be used at this temperature.
The inventive method can NEN z. B. Dyes of the following classes are subjected: Anthraquinone acridones, Anthraquinone azines, Anthraquinone oxazoles, Anthraquinone thiazoles, Anthraquinone carbazole, A.
Pyrenquinones, polynuclear peri-di- and tetra-carboximides and imidazoles.
Noteworthy is the short meal, which in the process according to the invention already leads to very significant improvements in the dye. Just 5 minutes can be enough for this, but the grinding can also be continued over 5 Stuxidexl, where extremely good products are obtained. A relatively short meal is therefore in order because then high productions can be achieved with limited equipment.
The examples in the following table, in which parts mean parts by weight, serve to illustrate the present invention. In all examples, dye and sulfuric acid were introduced into a Werner-Pfleiderer mill at room temperature with stirring. The mass was then sheared for the specified time and then at. Discharge by adding the specified amount of water with vigorous stirring
diluted. The resulting pulp was filtered and the press cake was washed free of acid. The product received had in everyone. Case excellent application properties in terms of particle size, particle size distribution and particle surface properties. The designation C.1. refers to the Rowe Color Index.
