Hair dryer. In hairdressing for ladies, it is known to use for drying the hair, air jets projected onto the hair. These jets penetrate. in the. hair and. res come out after deflection on the scalp.
Dryers constructed to operate by this method generally have the following drawbacks: Excessive current consumption necessitating larger electrical installations than such usually used in hairdressing salons.
? Noisy operation.
'1 Iiieomfort by projection, at the outlet of the dryer, of hot air on the face of the client.
Moreover, the dryers used up to now have for the implementation of this process a blower placed on the outside of a helmet, for example in the foot of the dryer.
This arrangement has the following drawbacks: 7 "Large pressure drops in the tubes transporting the air at a distance.
? Very high calorie consumption limiting the flow rate and, consequently, the required lance is relatively large.
3 High cost price.
4 Slow heating due to the inertia of the device, further increasing consumption, difficult to regulate due to the significant influence of the environment. The object of the present invention is to eliminate these drawbacks.
The invention relates to a hair dryer, of the type in which the hair is placed in the center of a perforated helmet with a large number of holes of small section, to. through which are projected small jets of hot air pulsed at very high speed by a turbine, so that said jets penetrate through the.
hair to the scalp on which they are. are deflected to then cross again the hair in the opposite direction, to fall characterized by the fact. that said turbine and a heating device are mounted in the body of the dryer, in the immediate vicinity of the hot air projection holes. whereby the pressure drops are.
These are considerably reduced and a very high speed of the air jets can be obtained with a substantially reduced energy consumption.
The turbine of the dryer according to the invention must. be driven at about 3000 revolutions / minute by the engine and, therefore, the noise of the suction at the inlet of the turbine is very important. This constitutes a drawback since in the dryer according to the invention, the turbine and its motor are located in the body of the helmet itself.
This is why, according to one embodiment, the dryer comprises a suction manifold provided with ramps, in the form of a spiral intended to reduce considerably. this noise without slowing down the suction of the turbine.
The appended drawing represents, by way of example, two forms and variant embodiments of the dryer which is the subject of the invention.
The thread-. 1 is a view in axial vertical section of a first embodiment of the dryer according to the invention.
Fig. 2 is a detail sectional soot showing the arrangement of the lower edge of this dryer.
The fis. 3 is. a view of a simplified variant of this same edge.
The thread-. 4- is a partial sectional view of a second embodiment.
Wire-. 5, 6 and 7 are detailed sectional views of the dryer shown in FIG. 1. The fi, m. 8 is a schematic view of the noise damping suction ring taken along line VIII-VIII @ of the fia. -l.
Fig. 9 is a partial perspective view of the upper part of the dryer according to FIG. 1.
Fig. 10 is a partial sectional view of an alternative embodiment.
The thread-. 11 is. a sectional view of another variant embodiment.
The fi. 12 and 13 are respectively vertical sectional views and. in elevation (the face of another variant of the dryer.
In the embodiment shown in, fil-. 1, we see at 1. the wall of a helmet drilled with a large number of holes 2 in the form of nozzles of small section distributed in a substantially uniform manner in the surface of the wall 1 of the helmet.
Wall 1 is. lined internally by a second wall 3, an annular space -1 being provided between the two walls, the upper ends of which and. lower are fixed together, for example by means of rivets., as indicated in 5 (see fig. 2).
The wall 3 has holes 6 in number equal to the holes 2 of the wall 1 and. arranged in correspondence with said holes and larger than these to allow the jets to pass freely without risking eddies and to prevent the haelure from coming into contact with the prominent end pieces formed by the nozzles 2.
At its lower end, beyond its fixing zone on the wall 3, the wall 1 has a flange 7 fixed, for example, by crimping, on the lower edge of a cylindrical wall 8, arranged inside an outer body 10. The wall 8 and the body 70 are spaced apart from each other and thus form a chamber 12.
The wall 3 is extended a little beyond the lower edge of the wall 1 and rests against the rim of the outer body 10 by means of an upturned edge in the form of glue rette 9 so as to provide a . annular space 11 communicating eharnbre 12 with suction holes 2a nrénag-és in.
lower par4.ie of the wall in the immediate vicinity of its edge.
With this arrangement, it can be seen that a chamber 36 formed between the wall 1 of the helmet and the wall 8 communicates with the interior of the helmet where the hair to be dried is placed, through the nozzles 2 and the holes 6, while that the. chamber 12 can eonrmuniquer a.vee the outside only by the two rows of holes 2a.
The helmet is. surmounted by a coaxial chamber 13 perforated with orifices 1-1 comnruni- ant with the chamber 12 by means of tubes 15. The upper end of the. cylindrical wall 8 carries a rubber seal 16 on which a bloe-chà rests: ssis containing, turns the electrical components for driving and heating the air.
This block includes a compression chamber and. heating 1 7 communicating with the. chamber 36 through openings 37 and in which are mounted resistors 18 and, in the example represented, god stages of turbines, of which the rotors can be seen at 19 and at 19a. the stator.
Thus, the heating resistors and. the turbine are mounted in the body of the dryer, in the immediate vicinity of the hot air projection holes.
The external manifold 20 shown in detail in a. fig. 8 constitutes a suction manifold leading the air to the suction opening of the turbine after having made it follow a series of corridors 21 eii in the form of a spiral.
Finally, at the top of the block is mounted an electric motor 23. A cylinder '?? surrounds the motor to. appropriate distance; its upper end carries a rubber seal 4 against which rests a filter membrane 25, the outer edge of which is. fixed, as indicated in 26, on a ring 37 comes to fit it in a cup 28.
1, the lower end of the cylinder 22 is, pierced with holes 22a opening into the suction chamber so that the air sucked from the outside through the holes 30 is, directed in the direction of the 1st (fig. . l.), ventilates the engine 23 and ensures its cooling.
The assembly is protected by a cover 29 which has, at its upper part, the holes 30 already mentioned and, on its periphery, two openings 31 (fig. 9) through which wires can pass. electrical 32 for powering the motor 23 and the resistors 18.
The edge of the cover 29 rests on a gasket 33 placed astride the circular edge of the bowl 28 and centered in a housing provided at. the upper end of the body 10. One side of the cover 29 is hooked, by means of a hole 43, on a pin 44 fixed to the body 1.0 (fig. 6), while the side opposite of the cover is. engaged under a curved tab 34 (fig. 5)
carried by a sleeve 40 sliding on a lever 35 (see fig. 4) serving to orient the helmet on a support 41. The tab 34 and the sleeve 40 are hand held against the cover 29 by a nut 42, in the form of a ball, screwed onto the end of the lever 35. This assembly ensures a certain application pressure of the edge of the cover 29 on the seal 33.
i The dryer described works as follows: The air drawn in by the turbine, partly composed of fresh air coming in. die the outside through the holes 30 and the hot core waste air coming from the. chamber 12 by the holes 38 made at the periphery of the bowl 28, is driven by a gradually accelerated speed during its passage through the different stages of the turbine, not without having, before reaching the suction manifold 20 , ensures engine cooling 23.
The path of the air in the manifold 20 following the previously spiral corridors 21. indicated, provides noise damping. suction by intercepting sound waves propagating radially. On leaving the downstream rotor of the turbine, the air passes through the resistors 18 and reaches the chamber 36 through the orifices 37 to be subsequently projected onto the hair through the nozzles 2 and. Holes 6.
Due to the. high speed of the hot air jets, the air is charged with moisture a first time in the direction of the jets, that is to say from the outside of the hair to the inside and a second times, after deflection on the scalp, in the opposite direction, that is to say from the inside to the outside.
Given the fact that the air jets pass through the hair from the outside to the inside with great speed, drying the hair thoroughly on its outward journey and on its return journey from the inside to on the outside, there is no outer crust of dried out hair covering undried hair, as was the case with devices where hot air is.
simply stirred by a reel and deflected on the hair.
In addition, in the dryer described, the chews to be styled beforehand and held by pins are applied by the. pressure exerted on them by all the air jets, without turbulence or stirring, and dry in the form in which they were capped without it being necessary to maintain them by means of a net, which, in general, does not can only oppose: the circulation of air and prolong the stay. chage.
Due to its high speed of passage through the hair, the air is charged with less moisture than in the usual drying, so that after passing through the hair, the used air is not too humid for serve again and be effective again for drying hair, especially since it has retained most of its heat.
This air is, in large part, taken up either by the central chamber 13 and the tubes 15, or. during its evacuation when it passes in front of the holes 2a made for this purpose near the lower edge of the helmet.
The intake of used air by this device has the advantage of creating a depression inside the helmet (central suction) which activates evaporation. In addition, this recovery (the used 1? A-ir prevents the sweeping of the client's face by the used air after it has passed through the hair, which sweeping usually occurs in the dryers known hitherto. Indeed,
in the dryer described, part of the used air is taken up from the top and the other part, which might come out from the bottom by sweeping the client's face, is sucked back through the holes 2a in the vacuum chamber 12.
This also allows the re-generation of a large quantity of calories and this results in a significant saving in the consumption of electrical energy. In fact, the air taken up by the holes 2a. or the holes 14 still contain some heat and it heats up as it circulates. against the. wall 8 or in the tubes 15, then passing through the resistors 18.
The presence of the chamber 12 prevents losses to the outside of the heat of the air circulating inside the wall 8. Finally, the air temperature adjustment is more stable, the influence of the variations. of the ambient temperature being lower.
It should be noted that the fresh air drawn in through the holes 30 and the preheated air coming from. of the vacuum chamber 12 only reach the suction manifold 20 after having passed through the filter 25, that is to say free of dust.
In the. variant shown partially in FIG. 10, the peripheral suction opening 47 of the manifold 20 opens directly into the chamber 12. A circular opening 48 with a diameter slightly greater than. that of the shaft 49 of the motor 23 is provided in the center. The turbine 1.9 sucks through this opening 48 a certain quantity of air coming from the outside through the hole 30, which air is channeled through the cylinder 22 and ensures the cooling of the engine 23.
This particularly silent device is more economical to produce than the previous one.
In the simplified embodiment of the; fig. 4, the helmet has only the wall 1 pierced with a large number of holes 2 of small diameter through which the air jets di erected towards the center of the interior space pass. The air is pulsed by a single turbine 45 and it is heated as it passes over electric resistors 46.
There is no recovery of the used air, but to avoid sweeping the face of the client by the air evacuated at the periphery of the helmet, the lower edge of the latter has a groove 39 pierced with holes 2b and 2c placed and directed in a way. suitable to train:
some 2b, a curtain of jets oriented, inward and opposing the pitch @@ a, 4e of the air in the frontal region, and the others 2c, a curtain of directed jets; on the contrary towards the outside in the region of. Cheat to activate the air outlet to the rear.
The efficiency of this embodiment is. obviously lower, the air projection speed being. much lower, but it constitutes however. a dryer much faster than those existing to date, more comfortable and. achievable at a low price.
In another simplified execution borehole shown at the son. 11, the helmet has only the wall 1 pierced with a large number of trunk 2 of small diameter. This wall forms an integral part of a part 50 obtained by molding, this part preferably being made of transparent plastic.
The part 50 not only forms the wall 1. in the form of a helmet, but also an outer casing 51 connecting to the wall 1 by an edge 52.
The outer body 1.0, as well as a cylindrical wall 54 located inside this body, connects to the upper edge of the casing 51, a rubber seal 57 being disposed at the location. of this connection. Unlike, the form of execution shown in FIG. 1, the outer body 10 does not descend to the level of the lower edge of the wall 1 and of the casing 51.
which here replaces the wall 8; thus, when part 50 is. made of transparent plastic, the client's head is visible from the outside.
A chamber 55 is formed between the outer body 10 and the wall 54 and the peripheral suction port 47 of the air manifold 20 opens directly into this chamber 55. The lower part of this chamber communicates with the outside via perforations 56 said body 10. Thus, the air sucked in by the perforations 56 reaches the manifold 20 after having heated up -in contact with the wall 54 which surrounds the turbine and the heating resistors 1.8.
As in the embodiment shown in FIG. 10, a circular opening -l8 est. formed in the center of the manifold 20. The rotor 19 of the turbine sucks through this opening 18 a certain amount of air coming from the outside through the hole 30, this air being channeled through the cylinder '2 and. cooling the engine 23.
The turbine shaft carries two rotors, the rotor 19 and. a rotor 19b, integral with the first and located su = dessoius of the latter. Upstream of the rotor 19b is arranged an air collector 20b identical to the collector 20 and whose peripheral suction opening 47b communicates with an opening 67 formed at the top. wall 1.
Due to this arrangement, most of the used air is drawn in through opening 67, which creates. inside the helmet a depression activating evaporation and almost completely suppressing the washing of the face by the used air.
Optionally., The lower edge of the small wall 1 comprise two series of holes directed one upwards and the other downwards, these holes being similar to the holes 2b and 2c of the hood of the dryer shown in FIG. 4.
In another embodiment shown in Figs. 12 and. 1.3, the dryer is similar to both the execution flour according to fig. 11 and to that according to FIG. 1.
As in the embodiment according to FIG. 11, the helmet has only one wall 1 which is an integral part of a part 50a. preferably transparent plastic. This part 50a forms not only the wall 1, but also an outer envelope 51; the wall 1 does not have an opening 67 at its. the top part; it has, in fact., only series of perforations 2 small. diameter.
The outer body 10 does not descend to the lower edge 52 of the wall 1 and the casing 51, but it connects at 57 with the upper edge of this casing 51 and with the lower edge of the lower wall 54. The chamber 55 communicates with the peripheral suction orifice 47 of the air manifold 20 and possibly with the outside by a suitable clearance formed between the body 10 and. the wall 51. or by suitable perforations.
The embodiment according to FIGS. 12 and 13 is similar to the embodiment according to FIG. 1, in that it is provided, at the location of the lower edge 52 of the wall 1, means for taking up the used air by the manifold 20 and the turbine 19.
These means consist of at least two nozzles 5.8 and 59 both communicating with the ehambme 55 and opening one to the part of the edge 52 which corresponds to the frontal region, and the other to the of that edge that matches. to the, naked region. These two nozzles 58 and 59 have. suitable shapes and they are fixed on the outer faces of the wall 51 and the body 10.
Communication with the chamber 55 is ensured by perforations 60 of the body 1.0. The nozzles 58 and 59 widen. at their lower ends 61 and 62 which are turned against the edge 52 of the part .50a and form rams 63 and 64 opening towards the inside of the helmet. Ramp 63, located in the frontal region and. .formed by the nozzle 58, extends over a greater width than the ramp 64 formed by the. nozzle 59.
The latter ramp 64 has an appropriate shape to serve as a support for the neck @de. client.
During the operation of this dryer, the humid air is taken up by the nozzles 58 and 59, which activates the evacuation of this humid air and, consequently, the drying. Obviously, this also ensures calorie recovery. Moreover, lia. uptake of the used air by the ramp 63 completely avoids the sweeping of the face by the used air.
The dryer following this embodiment therefore has the same operating characteristics. and the same advantages as the dryer according to FIG. 1, while being however much simpler, because the nozzles 58 and 59 are simply attached.
For all the written embodiments of the dryer, it is preferably possible to provide an electrical diagram for controlling the motor 23 such that this motor can operate at will at two different speeds and such as an additional resistor of heating either. automatically put into service when the motor is controlled at. speed there. higher, in order to maintain the same temperature in the helmet despite the increased flow rate of the turbine.
Thus, it is possible to achieve a perfectly silent dryer when the engine is running at normal speed, and a faster dryer. slightly noisy while doing. run the engine at its high speed, this latter type of operation being able to. render services in urgent cases.
Obviously, the control circuit diagram may include a device for regulating the temperature inside the case.
