La commande .sélective des relais Al, .12, 3I7., J12, BS et SOF est. assurée par un relais;
distributeur automatique SS fonctionnant pas à pas et comportant deux balaisCI., l "? déplaçables ang111airement pour passer res- peetiv ement sur des rangées de plots de con tacts Sla_87a et S1b-S7b. Le déplacement angulaire des balais CI et C'dans le sen:;
Après un intervalle de temps suffisant pour permettre ].'entrée en action du relais interrupteur 1 de la manière précédemment décrite, le courant anodique cesse de passer dans le tube diode D, et le relais inverseur est, désexcité, de sorte que les contacts COCI établissent la connexion de la borne P2ar et rompent la connexion de la bornePlu. avec la grille du tube triode Tl. Les contactr;
Method and apparatus for controlling electromagnetic relays, in particular for automatically starting cinematographic projectors. The present invention relates to a method and. an apparatus for controlling electromagnetic relays, in particular. for the automatic start of cine- matographic projectors.
For the projection of cinematographic films, it is usual to apply to the films visible marks which, appearing on the projection screen, constitute key signals indicating to the operator the moment for the execution of the manual operations. intended for switching from one projector to the next.
These operations include lighting and adjusting the electric arc of the next projector (in which the next reel and film have already been set up for projection and winding), starting the engine, controlling the flaps unmasking the beam of the next projector and masking the beam of the previous projector, and reversing the connections of the sound amplifier to disconnect it from the sound player (magnetic or photoelectric and cooperating with the sound track on the film) the previous device and to connect it to the player of the next projector.
The method according to the invention is characterized in that successive electric pulses produced automatically are used to carry out electric commands, which in turn act automatically and. successively on the operation of several selected electric circuits.
The apparatus for implementing the above process is characterized in that it comprises a main relay actuated by successive electrical pulses, several electrical control circuits, the same number of secondary relays, at least one group. contacts for each secondary relay and interposed in each of the circuits; secondary, and the means by means of which the main relay successively operates the secondary relays.
The appended drawing represents, by way of example, an embodiment of the apparatus according to the invention.
Figs. 1 and 1a show a key circuit diagram for a control assembly for two inematographic projectors.
Fig. 2 is a circuit diagram of a variant.
Fig. - 3 is a front view of the apparatus.
The apparatus shown in FIGS. 1 and 1a has a JIT power transformer whose primary winding is supplied with current through terminals 1.1 and 12, through a JIS main switch. The transformer 17T comprises four in secondary bearings Vl, V2, Vs and V.4 supplying respectively a) A current of a suitable voltage, for example 4.3 V (l'1)
for heating the cathodes of triode electron tubes Tl and T? and of a diode tube D which will be described later (the X and Z terminals of the heating being respectively linked to terminal X of the positive conductor of said secondary winding, and to terminal Z, of a CH contact blade key of a BS relay with the other blade is connected to said positive conductor).
b) A current of an appropriate voltage, for example 32 V (V.), applied to an RD rectifier which supplies the main continuous operating key current and the anode voltage for the electron tubes T2 and D.
c) 'A current. high voltage, for example .10 V (Va), for the anode of the electronic tube T1, the anode current of which actuates certain relays.
d) A current of suitable voltage, for example 9 V (V-1) for the polarization of the (Yvillcs of the tubes.-, TI and T2.
One branch of each of the secondary windings 1'1, Ve, T'and V_t of the JIT transformer is connected to a common ground conductor which extends through all the circuits starting from a terminal 10.
The assembly comprises relays <11, A2, the contacts of which are interposed in the circuits of the arc lamps of two cinematographic projectors (respectively designated by PI.
and P2) via terminals 1 and 2, relays 1l1 and J12, the contacts of which are respectively interposed in the circuits of the drive motors of the headlights P1 and P2 via terminals 3 and -1, a BS relay which serves in actuating the shutters acting simultaneously to unmask the beam from the headlight Pl and to mask the beam from the headlight P2, or vice versa, by passing the current through one or the other of terminals 5 and 6 dan :. -, suitable electromagnetic control units and.
a SOF relay which is used to reverse the connections of the sound amplifier to disconnect it from the sound player of the projector P1 and to connect it to the sound player of the projector P ?, or vice versa.
The selective control of the relays A1, .12, 3I7., J12, BS and SOF is. provided by a relay;
SS automatic distributor operating step by step and comprising two angularly displaceable CI., 1 "? brushes to pass repeatedly over rows of contact pads Sla_87a and S1b-S7b. CI and C brushes in sen :;
clockwise, towards the working positions, is ensured by a suitable ratchet mechanism or equivalent, by means of an OC control winding excited by anode current pulses (produced in a manner described later ) coming from the triode tube T1. When an inverter Ii occupies the position AT'T0, the return of the .S'S distributor relay to the starting position shown is ensured by the excitation of a winding of RC reminder, key as described later.
In the starting or waiting position for distributor relay S., brush C1. is pledged: on the unconnected pad Sla, while the brush C2 rests on the pad Slb. The direct current coming from the rectifier is thus applied to one side of the de-max-x # age switches S_12, SJI2 and SP2 to. manual command. The opposite sides of these switches are respectively connected to relays A2, 3I2 and to relays BS and SOF in parallel.
The flow. also lights up a PL warning light which indicates that the appliance is in standby state for manual start. An RS switch is used to bring the SS relay to the starting position (if it is not already occupying it.) By energizing the RC return winding, which also activates the TR contact to disconnect the brush. THIS. during the recall movement.
The movement of the inverter Ii to the AT'TO position connects the anode of the electronic tube Tl to the supply conductor coming from the transformer 3IT and passing through the control winding OC of the distribution relay SS. The anodes of the triode tube T1 and the diode tube D are permanently connected to the high voltage direct current source as shown in the drawing.
In this AUTO position, the inverter K also connects the output of the rectifier to the C1 brush of the SS distributor relay, while the C2 brush (this relay is permanently connected to this regulator. the manner shown.
The inverter K is in, two directions and two poles, and. can occupy another position DR ï'JI in which the anode of the tube T1 is connected to. its anode voltage conductor coming from the JIT transformer and passing through a drum relay DR, and no longer through the OC control winding of the SS distributor relay. The brush C1 of the SS relay is then disconnected from its direct current source, and receives the current through the DC1 contacts of the drum relay DR connected to a terminal c9, the purpose of which will be described later.
In each of the positions of the inverter) i, the direct current source is also used to light one or the other of the lamps .l L and DL which respectively indicate that the inverter occupies one of the AUTO and Dlfl'JI positions.
The apparatus as has just been described up to the point is intended to allow the manual setting of a cinematographic projector, for example of the projector P2, and to effect the automatic passage of this projector P2 to projector Pl, and then from projector Pl to projector P2, depending on the number of film reels used for projection.
The initiation of the switching operations is ensured by current pulses produced by devices incorporated in the projectors, which can be advantageously provided by electrical response devices s arranged to create pulses of determined duration in cooperation with conductive markers applied to the film of each reel. Electrical response devices (not shown)
projectors P1 and P2 are respectively connected to terminals) 'l a. and P2a. By means of the COCI changeover contacts, the response device of the previous headlight is connected to the grid of the triode tube T1. At this point, it is appropriate to describe the operations of the manual starting and the automatic switching of a projector to the other made with the apparatus shown in the drawing.
The other components, as well as their mode of operation, will be described as and when. , The assembly occupying the position shown in the drawing, the operator starts the projector P2 by closing the switches SA2, SJÎ2 and SP2, either separately in this order, or simultaneously by coupling, of these three switches.
For the ignition of the arc lamp in a cinematographic projector, it is only necessary to bring the negative electrode into q 'here u, contact with the positive electrode to pass the current, and then to withdraw the negative elec trodes to create a small gap for the arc striking. The interval between the electrodes is then adjusted to obtain the desired brightness of the arc.
This mode of manual ignition and adjustment of the arc is eliminated by the use of a fuse element, capable of melting under the action of a current lower than that of the arc, and which is then disintegrated or volatilized by combustion. The operator wedges this element before closing the circuit between the arc lamp electrodes spaced apart in the normal operating position.
The automatic ignition of the arc is thus ensured as soon as the corresponding circuit, that is to say the switch SA2, is closed.
Closing of switches S12, S11 \? and SP2 causes the direct current to arrive through the brush C2 and the distributor relay SS to the windings of the relays 12, 1-f2, BS and SOF. The excitation of these in bearings closes the holding contacts represented above the relays A2, 312 and BS, and allows the arrival of the current. DC to the windings by a LN conductor which also causes this direct current to arrive at.
the in of a yes pair of a group of contacts shown above each relay Al, Q12, 111, 1V12, and to two groups of contacts shown above the BS relay. When the relay .12 comes into action, closing the upper contacts causes current to flow to terminal 2 and then to the are lamp of the P2 projector. The entry into action of relay 112, which closes the upper contacts, passes direct current to terminal 4 and then into the circuit of the drive motor chi projector P2.
When the BS relay is activated, the direct current flows from terminal: 5 (in the position shown in the drawing) to terminal 6 and then into the device actuating the shutters so that the beam of the P2 projector is unmasked , while the beam of the protector Pl. is. mask. Simultaneously, the activation of the SOP relay reverses the connections of the sound amplifier by passing it (the terminal S01 (in the position shown in the drawing) from the sound player of the projector Pl to the terminal 802 of the sound player of the projector P2 The central strip of this relay is permanently connected to a common terminal SC of the amplifier circuit.
Another group of BS relay contacts turns it on. lamp SL2 to indicate to the operator that the playback takes place on the soundtrack of the film running in the projector P2, while the other lamp SL1 is off. At the same time, the two CII contacts shown above the BS relay are open to cut off the current: for heating the filament of the diode tube D. The purpose of this interruption will appear later. The windings of relays A2 and 112 are not. then connected to ground only by the contacts of a switch relay I.
The windings of the BS and SOP relays are connected to ground through resistor R2, so that the negative terminals of these windings are held at. a potential above that of the mass. The object is to obtain in a manner described later the tripping of these relays by the application of a current. of the same voltage at the two terminals, of their windings, and at the same time to prevent short-circuiting of the rectifier.
The apparatus is then conditioned to allow the projection of a film with the projector P2. Current flow to terminals \ ?, 4 and 6 is provided by the upper contacts of relays <12, 312 and BS held in circuit by the contacts shown below these relays. The operator can therefore open the switches S12, S112, SP2.
The automatic passage from one projector to the next is ensured by a device by trant in action at. the end of the film passing through the projector P2 to transmit a series of electrical pulses to the terminal P2a, and then, via the contacts COC1 of the changeover relay C0, to. the grid of the triode tube T1.
The first pulse applied to the triode tube T1 causes an anode current pulse to pass through the control winding OC of the distributor relay S8. The ba lai C1 is thus pushed onto the pad 52a which passes the current through the winding of the relay t11. The lower contacts of the latter close to maintain the arrival of the direct current, while the upper contacts close to bring the current to terminal 1 and then to the are lamp of the projector Pl previously fitted with a fuse starting element as described above.
Simultaneously, the brush C'2 is pushed on the pad S2b to cause the current to arrive at terminal 8 and then to an audible warning device, for example to a buzzer, indicating to. the operator approaches the change, so that he can monitor the arc of the projector P1 to ensure that it starts properly.
A second pulse causes the distributor relay SS to intervene to push the brush Cl on the @S \ ecr .. stud. Via the relay MI and terminal 13, la. voltage is applied to the drive motor of the projector P1 which starts up.
Moon third impulse acts. on the SS distributor relay to push the C1 brush on the S4a pad which neutralizes the windings of the BS and SOP relays with a view to their triggering. The. triggering of relay B.S 'stops the arrival of direct current to terminal, 8 and connects the direct current source to terminal 5. The shutters unmask the beam from the projector Pl and. mask the beam of projector P2.
This trigger also turns off the SL3 lamp and turns on the SL1 lamp. Simultaneously, triggering (read SOP relay reverses the sound amplifier connections by connecting terminal SC to terminal S01, and separating. Terminals SC and SO ?. The sound playback therefore continues on the track of the film running in the projector P1.
.- After these operations, the actual passage from one projector to the next is terminated, but the are lamp and the driving motor of the previous projector P2 are still on, while the are lamp and the motor of the next headlight Pl are connected to earth by the contacts of the switch relay I and by the contacts COC3 of the changeover relay CO.
1.e engine can, be stopped and. the are of the previous projector turned off by a device actuated by a fourth pulse applied to the terminal Ma and an tube Tl. It is this during indicated that these operations are abjured by another mol in, in this case by the; output of the posterior end of the film.
The apparatus is, therefore, arranged so that a fourth pulse is applied to. terminal P2b and then to. through the COC2 contacts of the changeover relay CO to. the ripille of the triode tube the 2.
As a result, an anode current pulse passes through the switch relay I and opens its two pairs of contacts, which also opens the circuits of the arc relay t12 and of the motor relay J12 (connected to ground. only. through these contacts). The previous projector P? East. therefore stopped, while the circuits of relay = 1.1 of the arc and of the motor relay MI (still connected to the mass by the COC3 reversing contacts) are not influenced.
The engagement of the relay RS, produced by the third pulse applied to terminal P2a, causes the closing of the connectors C_ II to bring the current to the heating filament of the diode tube D. t1 l 'Using a rheostat Rl, the current is re-lé so that the heating of the cathode up to the emission temperature is delayed sufficiently to allow the switching relay I to come into action in the manner described.
Then, when the anode current flows through diode tube D, the CO changeover relay is on. switched on so that the COC1 contacts establish the connection of the P1a terminal and break the connection of the P2a terminal with the grid of the triode tube T1. The COC2 contacts establish the connection of the Plb terminal and break the connection of the P2b terminal with the T2 triode tube.
COC3 contacts connect. directly to earth the relay A2 of the are and the relay 112 of the motor and cut the direct connection between the earth and the relay Q11 of the are and the relay JIl of the motor. These last two relays are thus linked to ground only by the contacts of the switch relay I which have. been closed.
The projector Pl is thus conditioned to stop in the event of the film breaking and to transmit an impulse to the terminal Plb and to the switch relay I with a view to opening the circuits of the Al relay of the 'are and relay 1I1 of the motor. In addition, the assembly is in the standby position for another automatic change as soon as the end of the film running in the projector P1 is approaching. then the previous projector.
As soon as the posterior end of the scrolling film. in the projector Pl. comes out of it to wind on the receiving coil, a series of electrical pulses is. applied, via the COCA, contacts to terminal Pl.a and to the grid of the triode tube Tl.
The first pulse in this series passes an anode current pulse through the OC control winding of the SS distributor relay. The brush C1 is therefore pushed onto the pad.
S5a which passes the current through the winding of relay Q12. The lower contacts of this one close to maintain the arrival of the direct current, tan say that the upper contacts close to bring the current to the terminal S2 and then to the projector arc lamp P '?, which has been previously provided with an element.
ignition fuse as described above. Simultaneously, the brush ('? Is pushed on the pad S'51) to bring the current to terminal 7 and then to the buzzer indicating to the operator the approach of another change, so that it can monitor the arc of the projector P \? to make sure it boots properly.
The second pulse acts on the distributor relay SS so that the brush ("I is pushed on pin 56,. Via the relay JI2 and terminal -1, the driving motor of the projector P2 is then started.
The third pulse acts on the SS distributor relay so that the brush t "1 is pushed on the S7a pad, to energize the windings of the BS and SOF relays. The BS relay stops the arrival of direct current to terminal 5 and connects the DC source to terminal 6. The shutters are actuated to unmask the beam from projector P2 and to mask the beam from projector P1.
Said relay also turns off the lamp SL1 and turns on the lamp SL2. Simultaneously, the SOS relay establishes the connection between terminals SC and S02, and breaks the connection between terminals SC and SOI. sound amplifier, so that playback continues on the movie track running in projector P2.
After these operations, the actual change of the projection is again completed, but the circuits of the are lamp and of the drive motor of the previous projector Pl. Are still closed, while the circuits of the lamp with are and of the following headlight motor P \? are connected to earth by the contacts of the switch relay I and by the COC3 contacts of the changeover relay C0.
A fourth pulse is therefore applied to the terminal Plb, and then, through the contacts COC2 of the changeover relay C0, to the gate of the triode tube T2. The result is that an anode current pulse acts on the switch relay 1 which opens its two pairs of contacts.
The circuits of the lamp relay at, are -11 and of the motor relay JE (only connected to the mass by these contacts) are opened and the preceding projector PI is stopped, while the circuits of the The discharge of the arc lamp @ 12 and of the motor relay JI2 (still connected to the ground by the COC 3 changeover contacts) are not, not irfluenced.
The entry into action of the relay BS, produced by the third pulse applied to the terminal Plcr, wears the opening of the upper contacts CIl 'to stop the arrival of the current to the heating filament of the diode tube D.
After a sufficient time interval to allow the switching relay 1 to come into action in the manner previously described, the anode current stops flowing in the diode tube D, and the changeover relay is de-energized, so that the COCI contacts establish the connection of the P2ar terminal and break the connection of the Plu. terminal with the grid of the triode tube Tl. Contact them;
COC2 establish the connection of the P2b terminal and break the connection of the Pli) terminal with the T2 triode tube. COC3 contacts connect. the lamp relay to are Al and the motor relay J11 directly to earth, while they interrupt the direct connection of the earth to the relay (the lamp at are -12 and the motor relay J12, these last two relays being connected to the mass only by the switch relay contacts 1.
The projector P is thus conditioned to stop in the event of the film breaking, by the transmission of a pulse to the terminal P2b and to the opening switch relay I . then the arc lamp relay _1l and motor relay JII circuits. In addition, the assembly is in the standby position. for another change, automatic at the approach of the end of the film running in the projector P? which thus becomes the previous projector.
On the other hand, the third pulse coming from the terminal Pla, also intervenes to push the brush ("? Said distributor relay SS on the pad. 57i).
Direct current is. so applied to the RC pull-up winding of this distributor relay at the end of the short energization of the OC control winding. The RC pull-back winding is activated. then to release the labeling device and the brushes C1 and C2 which return to their starting position as shown in the drawing. Circuit breaker 1'R disconnects ba lai Cl during return.
Of course, the automatic switch from a previous projector P1 or P2 to the next projector can take place in the manner described, as often as required by the number of coils necessary for continuous projection.
To present an auxiliary program, for example during an intermission between the main program, the operator switches the inverter K to the position DRZ'J1 at any midpoint of the. projection with the. last reel.
By auxiliary program is meant one or more operations such as:, reproduction of music or speech, switching on and off of the are of a projector for fixed projections, starting and stopping automatic at least Him projector for at least one reel of film, the closing and opening of the stage curtains, and the control of the stage and / or room lighting.
It does not matter whether the last coil carries an even order number (the brushes Cl. And C2 of the distribution relay then being respectively. Placed on the pads Sla and SLb) or an even order number (the brush Cl being.
then placed on the pad S'-ha), the anode of the triode tube P1 being in any case separated from the coil of magnet-demand OC and connected to the current source through the coil of the drum relay DR.
The first pulse applied to one of the terminals Pl a. and P2a acts on the relay DR in the direction of the closing of the DC contacts "I, (the so that the direct current arrives at terminal 9 and then at the auxiliary program manager device, or at all the selectors. circuit ,, and preferably to an electric clockwork movement intended for synchronizing this device.
At the same time, the disconnected command winding OC_ cannot intervene to actuate the SS relay in response to this first pulse, nor the following pulses, to start the projector in the standby position.
Consequently, at the end of the film leaving the projector then in action, a pulse; applied to, any one of the terminals Pl b and P2b completely stops the operation of the device which the operator can mock in the waiting position for the resumption of operation. by a displacement of the reverser K to the AZ'P0 position.
To insert the projection of a film in an auxiliary program, for example for the presentation of extracts from the film of the next program, or of similar short films, the program director can be arranged to apply current pulses to one of the P2a or Pl cc terminals, to start one of the PI or P2 projectors. In this. In fact, the operator places the inverter K on position .1P1'0 waiting for this projection.
These starting pulses can also be applied directly to the control winding OC of the distributor relay SS, the brush Cl. Of this relay being. temporarily connected by the directing apparatus to the direct current source in any suitable manner. In another embodiment, the inverter K. may receive an additional electromagnetic command such that electrical pulses applied at appropriate intervals to the electromagnet by the program director apparatus cause the inverter K to pass through. to the.
position AUTO or DRZ '1I at the desired times.
Of course, one can imagine variations and modifications of details of the method and of the apparatus for the direction of cinematographic programs which have just been described.
In a variant of the apparatus shown in FIGS. 1 and la, the positive conductor of the current. continuous ending at the CI brush of the SS distributor relay can. pass through additional pairs of contacts mounted in parallel, one of the pairs being closed by the excitation of each or any of the relays A1, A2, .l'11,: l12. The so-called current arrival at the CI brush is thus automatically interrupted if none of the projectors is working.
One of these pairs of contacts may be arranged to be closed or shorted each time the auxiliary program director apparatus kicks in to start a projector.
In another variation, the SOP relay can be controlled by a pair of additional contacts of the BS relay instead of being controlled directly in the manner previously described. This then allows key to place the SOP relay outside of the described device, for example in the amplifier.
DR relay connections can. also be modified to allow its operation under the action of pulses applied to the terminals Pla or M'a, through the terminals S3b on 86b of the distributor relay SS (none of which intervene in the operation described above).
Fig. 2 said drawing is a diagram so that it is possible to control at least one key sequence three separate operations, necessary for example for starting up a cinematographic projector, in this case the ignition of the arc, the engine start-up and control of the light beam shutter.
The device shown in this figure comprises (in combination with the DR drum relay, the DS drum switch and the AS auto-switch in Fig. 1, and as a replacement for the SS distributor relay) an electronic tube V1, preferably of the thyra- tron type, a pulse relay RY1, an arc lamp relay RY2, a motor relay RY3 and.
an RY4 shutter shutter relay, in combination with many resistors and many capacitors forming the cooperating electronic circuits.
The grid bias voltage of tube V 1 is applied to terminal Zl, so that the appropriate high voltage to tube V1 is applied to terminal Y. Key current for operation of relays DR, </ I> Rl ': 3, RI-3 and RY4 arrive by terminal IV.
In the arrangement shown in the?, The DR drum relay is off and the VC inverter, intended for switching from the automatic change of projection to the direction of the auxiliary program (which you can call up direction by drum), occupies the click drum control position. When auto-switch -18 is momentarily closed,
the DR relay is energized through the normally closed DS drum switch, and this relay closes its holding contacts RI and operates the inverter 1'C to connect the anode from tube V1 to the power supply terminal Y via the relay RY1.
In order to trigger the automatic start-up of a next projector under the conditions which have just been described, a device is provided such as a predetermined interval defined on the film. of the previous projector (having. already. worked), or on this film and on that of the next projector, applies a series of electrical pulses to the grid of tube VI (which is for this purpose the equivalent of tube P1. of the fig. 1) by brushes Y1, 1 '? transmitter or pulse reader.
The bias voltage applied to the grid of tube 11. by terminal Z1_ est. chosen such that this tube does not allow any anodic current to pass. As soon as a conductive mark on the film closes the gap between the brushes Y1, Y2 of the pulse reader, the gille voltage is reduced to a value allowing the passage of the anode current.
The set of resistors R9, R3 and of capacitor C5 is arranged so that the grid of tube 1'1 is not short-circuited by the mark eoiidue- tor with the cathode during the closing (the </ B > the interval between the brushes Y1, I '?.
A resistor R2_1 in series with a capacitor C6 <1 is interposed between the high voltage terminator Y and the common negative eonaueter. The relay RY1 is interposed between the key common point R2.1 and C6A and the anode of the tube Z-'1. Under normal conditions, the tube Z 1 is polarized so that it does not allow any anode current to pass.
The capacitor ('6.1 is therefore fully charged, and it is kept charged by the incoming high voltage through resistor R2,1. From the arrival of the first pulse on the grid of the tube, reducing the polarization of this grid triggers ionization of this tube, so that it lets the anode current pass.
This anode current is taken from the capacitor ('6A through the winding of the relay RYl, and produces the engagement of the latter. When the capacitor C6.1 is unloaded, the tube Y 1 continues to receive current. anode of the high voltage terminal through resistor R21. The key value of this resistor is chosen such that the drop in voltage lowers the anode voltage of the tube 6.1 to a value insufficient to maintain the latter at state d ionization, so that the flow of anode current ceases.
The capacitor C6 <1 is recharged, and the circuit is held at. the state of rest by the polarization of the gate by the terminal Zl through the resistor R4 up to the next pulse.
As soon as the relay RY1 is triggered by the first pulse, it closes the three contacts P1, P2 and P3. The contact. Pl. Applies to relay RY2 the inrush current coming from the conductor: IL Clipping of this relay ensures the initiation of the arc in the next projector. The H2 contacts of the RY2 relay close to keep it in the on position when the Pl contact of the RYl relay. opens.
The multaneous closing of the contact P1 and of the contacts P2 and P3 also allows current to flow through the resistor R5 in the direction of the relay R Y3, and through the capacitor C3 and the resistor R7 in parallel. Since resistor R5 limits the arrival of current to relay RY3, the latter does not switch on ;.
When the contact Pl opens, the relay RY2 is kept engaged by the holding contacts H2 in the manner previously described. Resistor R5 is then connected to incoming conductor IV via these contacts H2, and capacitor C3 is charged through; resistor R5. Resistor R7 intervenes only to ensure the complete discharge of the capacitor C3 before. the start of engagement and its value is chosen such that it exerts no appreciable effect on the normal operation of the circuit.
The second pulse applied to the tube 1'1 again causes the engagement of the relay RY 1 in the manner described. The PI contact has no effect since the RY2 relay is kept engaged by the contacts 112. However, the closing of the P2 contact causes the discharge of the. capacitor C3 through relay RY3, so that the latter closes the switch for the drive motor of the next projector, as well as the contacts H3 which keep relay RY3 engaged. The contact P3 also closes, so that the capacitor ('4 is charged as described for the capacitor C3.
The third pulse applied to tube T'1 causes re-engagement of relays R1'1 and the closing of contacts P1, P2 and P3. Contacts P1 and P2 have no effect since relays RY2 and RY3 are kept engaged by holding contacts H2 and H3.
Closure of contact P3 causes the discharge of capacitor C4 and the engagement of relay RY4, which operates the shutters and closes the holding contacts H.1 in the manner described for capacitor C3 and relay RY3.
Each of the relays RY2, RY3 and RY4 has additional contacts (not shown) to control the arc lamp and motor circuits of the next projector, and to operate the shutters of the two projectors at the same time as others. desired organs.
The relays RY2, RY3 and RY4 being kept engaged respectively by the contacts 112, H3 and 114, it is. possible, for the automatic switch to the next projector, to prepare the circuits of another set of relays identical to RY1, RY2 and RY3. For this purpose, another group of contacts is provided (not shown) intended to be actuated by the relay RY4 in order to engage another relay (equivalent to the CO relay in fig. 1), which is used to simultaneously actuate the reversers CH2,
CH3 and CII4 to connect the circuit comprising the contacts Pl, P2 and P3, the resistors R5, R6, R7 and R8 and the capacitors C3, C4, to the conductors A5, Q16, 47 of the other relay game.
In the next series of operations performed by the release RY1, at the moment. where the film leaves the previous projector, the interval between the bars Y1, Y2 is closed by conducting marks. The relays of the other set are successively engaged to close the arc lamp circuit and the motor circuit of the next projector, and to actuate the shutter flaps of the two projectors.
In each of the return conductors of the relay set RY2, RY3 and RY4, or in each of the return conductors of the relay set RY2, RY3, RY4 and of the other identical set of relays is interposed a switch which can be automatic like the switch relay I in fig. 1, or which can be operated manually, for example using a button, to trigger the relays RY2,
RY3 and RY4 (or the other set by a maneuver in the opposite direction of the switches) to stop the corresponding projector, the relays being. brought back to the standby position when the next headlamp is changed.
When the drum director device is to come into action, the DS drum switch is opened manually or automatically to trigger the DR. relay. The maintenance contacts Hl. open, and the VC inverter goes to the position shown in fig. 2, disconnecting the anode of the tube V1 from the relay RY1. and connecting this anode to the DP pulse relay of the drum.
Accordingly, if it is necessary to operate a projector for the projection of a film that is part of an auxiliary program, the arc circuit and the circuit. of the motor as well as the relays of the shutter flaps are directly controlled by contacts of the steering unit,
while the pulses applied to the tube Vl by closing the gap between the brushes Yl and Y2 by a conductive mark of the film intervene to ensure the engagement of the pulse relay DP through the resistor R2D and the capacitor C6D ( equivalent to R2.1 and C6 A), with a view to the entry into action of the directing apparatus for the presentation of the program in the manner described above.
The projector is stopped by a pulse applied to a member such as the tube T2 of FIG. 1.
It is naturally easy to modify the arrangement of the circuits of FIG. 1 to incorporate a single pulse relay such as RYl. Compared to the stepping-operated SS distributor relay, the pulse relay offers the advantage of practically eliminating mechanical vibrations and wear, which significantly reduces the risk of mechanical circuit failures.
As soon as the polarization of the tube V1 is reduced by the passage of a conductive marker of the film opposite the reader brushes, the tube V1 is. ionized and the RY1 relay is. engaged, whatever the speed of the film and whatever the length of the conductive marker.
The ionization time of tube V1 (with any tube and with whatever conditions of operation of this tube) depends entirely on the time constant of the set R2A.-C6 <1, which can be chosen. sie so as to ensure the desired operating speed of the circuit, as determined by the ionization time of the tube V1.
One can imagine many variations of the circuits represented.
These variants can. understand the use of hard multi-electrode tubes in place of the gas triode or thyratron shown for the transmission of the pulses. It is also possible to use various triggering devices that are necessary or practicable for these tubes, the triggering being effected on one or more electrode phases. The pulse relay can also be arranged in a manner other than shown in the drawing.
For the successive control of electromagnetic relays by electronic pulses, it is obvious that one can also use a combination of elements such as tube V1, relay RY1 and relays RY2, RY3 and RY4 (or another number of relays of this kind, for example two or more than three) with their circuits, other than in connection with the projection of cinematographic films in the manner previously described.
The aforementioned fuse element, intended for the automatic initiation of an arc, may be a grain of suitable composition and of a shape allowing it to be clamped between the ends of the electrodes of the arc lamp, the size of which grain being chosen to bring the electrodes to the normal spacing. This train should also exhibit a low melting or ignition point. It has been found that a strip of material, for example tin or another suitable substance bent in U constitutes an advantageous fusible element to be clamped between the ends of the electrodes, with the branches respectively in contact with each electrode.
The characteristics of the fuse element must be such that it prevents the sudden passage of all the current, and that it is sufficiently heated to form a whole. simultaneously being completely disintegrated, burnt or broken so that the residue can fall from the electrodes to allow the arc to form under normal conditions.
Fig. 3 is. a front view of the device comprising a casing containing the electrical components described above. The housing is preferably divided into three superimposed parts; the lower part 51. contains. the power supply unit (transformers, rectifiers, etc.). The middle part 52 contains the apparatus shown; in FIGS. I and 2 as well as the organs attached to them.
The upper part 53 contains at the rear of a transparent glass 54 a steering apparatus whose movable member has the shape of a drum as described in patent No. 309582. The parts 51 and 52 of the casing are separately removable on a frame, and the electrical connections are preferably made by a set of pins and sockets. The organs intended for operating the switches as well as the pilot lights are mounted on panels. Key or lever devices 55 allowing the operation of the drum exit through the panel of the upper part 53.
The methods and apparatus described are advantageous for the direction of cinematographic programs in general and more particularly for the continuous projection of cinematographic films in several bundles and with several projectors; manual operations are thus reduced in number and possibly practically eliminated, except for the first start-up operations. In addition, with appropriate modifications to the apparatus described, these initial start-up operations can be carried out automatically by simply closing a main switch.
