Process for the production of longer weld seams on light metal parts. In patent No. 305184 a method for producing longer welds on light metal parts, in particular made of aluminum or aluminum alloys, be written, after which the edges to be connected are inserted into the grooves of a profile rod made of additional material, whereupon the welding rod with melting of the profile is carried out as additional material. The additional profile bar can serve as a guide rail for the welding device during semi-automatic or automatic welding. It has now been shown that in some cases, e.g.
B. when welding together curved surfaces at their krümm th edges, very cumbersome and zeitrau bend is to insert the edges in -the grooves of an H-profile (double-T profile). This applies, for example, to the manufacture of roofs for railroad cars.
According to the invention, an additional material profile bar with a T-shaped cross-section is now used, which can be inserted into the gap between two edges to be connected in the direction transverse to the surface of the sheets to be connected. It is therefore no longer necessary to insert the sheet metal edges into the grooves of the additional material profile bar, or to push the additional profile bar onto the edge in the sheet metal plane.
Is z. B. made a railroad car roof, so you can arrange already curved and attached to their horizontal edges sheets of aluminum alloy so that a gap between the ge curved edges to be connected, which are transverse to the longitudinal axis of the roof to be produced, and in these Insert the gap in the web of a correspondingly curved additional material profile rod, whereupon the welding is carried out from the side of the profile rod flange, expediently using a method using argon protective atmosphere. The profile bar is completely melted and then forms the weld bead with the melted edges of the sheets.
The web of the additional material profile rod can be thickened towards the free edge, preferably wedge-shaped. However, the thickening must not be such that its width is as large as that of the flange. There must always be the possibility of inserting the welding rod with the web first into a gap between two sheets to be welded, whereby the flange comes to rest on the edges to be welded.
In the case of large metal sheets in particular, it happens that the edges to be welded are not always exactly opposite one another. In this case, it is advantageous if the web of the additional material profile rod is thickened in a wedge shape against its free edge.If the sheets to be welded are then pushed even more against each other after the additional material profile rod has been inserted, then the edges to be welded through the inclined surface on the web pushed into the right position.
Of course, the thickening on the web does not necessarily have to be wedge-shaped in cross section. You can also z. B. train around.
The composition of the additional profile bar will be chosen so that perfect seams are obtained. This is especially important when welding parts made of aluminum alloys that are hot-cracked. In the case of alloys of the Al-Mg-Si type, it is expedient to choose an additional profile rod made from an alloy of the Al-Mg type or from an Al-Mg-Si type alloy with an increased Si content.
The drawing illustrates some examples from management. Fig. 1 shows a section of two sheet metal edges with inserted additional material profile rod 2 in the welding position. This profile bar is in the direction of the arrow in the gap between the two sheets 1 has been leads.
2 shows the edges of two metal sheets 1 after the profiled rod 3 has been introduced in the direction of the arrow and has a web 4 that is wedge-shaped in cross section. The thickened end of the web could still be inserted between the sheet metal edges. The flange of the profile bar is only on the left edge of the sheet. The right edge of the sheet metal is slightly offset downwards. If the sheet metal edges are now pushed against one another, the right sheet metal edge slides upwards on the inclined surface of the web 4 and takes. then the correct welding position, as shown in FIG. 3.
4, 5 and 6 show further imple mentions of additional material profile bars in cross section.
