Silencer. The invention relates to a muffler on internal combustion engines, with a muffler and a sound absorption compound, which is characterized by the fact that an insert element enclosed by the latter is provided for the passage of the exhaust gases from the inlet to the outlet opening directly and via the absorption compound , which has those between tubular parts that allow an expansion of the exhaust gases within the insert member and the passage into the absorption mass.
In the drawing, an embodiment example of the subject invention is Darge provides. The figures show: FIG. 1 a longitudinal section through the silencer, FIG. 2 a plan view and FIG. 3 a section along the line III-III in FIG. 1.
The muffler has a cylindri's muffler 1 made of sheet metal or some other material, which at one end has a taper designed as a connection piece 2 for making the connection with the pipe, not shown, which conducts the exhaust gases of the engine. In the other end of the muffler 1, an end piece 3 is pushed. The muffler 1 is used to take on an insert member, which consists of tubular parts 4 and expansion chambers 5 formed by bulges at equal distances from one another.
The walls of these chambers 5 are provided with holes 6 which connect the spaces 7 enclosed by the chambers 5 with the space between the insert element and the muffler 1 filled with a filling compound 8, for example glass wool. The whole thing is held together by a rod 10, one end of which has a web 9 resting against an inner flange la of the muffler 1, while its second end carries a Ge thread that is inserted through a hole in a cross member 11 of the end piece 3 and a nut 12 and a lock nut 13 1 protrudes.
The exhaust gases of the engine entering the nozzle 2 can move in the axial direction directly through the insert member in the direction of the outlet opening at the free end of the end piece 3. In a preferred embodiment, the inlet cross-section of the connection piece 2 and the passage cross-section of the tubular parts 4 of the insert member are dimensioned such that the latter makes up about 213 of the former, so that a quick escape is guaranteed.
A passage of pressure waves, however, is hindered by the fact that the gases expand sideways into the chambers 5, pass through the openings 6 into the filling compound 8 and from the latter freely into the end piece 3, the exit of the gas parts from the filling compound 8 is promoted by the suction effect of the gas parts pushed directly through the insert member in the direction of the outlet opening. Through these detours, congestion and expansion who compensated for the pressure waves of the exhaust gases, and the latter flow practically without bumps and ge noiseless through the outlet opening.
The insert member with the tubular parts 4 and the chambers 5 can also have a shape other than that shown. In particular, it can be composed of elements so that the number of elements to be used in each case can be adapted to requirements. The silencer can easily be dismantled into its individual parts and cleaned, with the absorption mass in particular being able to be replaced by a new one.
