Method of attaching a pull cord to one end of a pipe. In the manufacture of electrical cables be a known method for Aufbrin gene of the jacket is to pull the actual Ka belkörper into a tube and then stretch it to put it as a jacket on the cable body. At present, this method is only used for jackets made of aluminum or an aluminum alloy.
According to. In this known process, the pipe is laid out in an approximately straight line, the cable body is drawn into it and the pipe is then stretched. This process is described in more detail in Patent No. 302980.
In order to pull the pipe into place and then stretch it, some method of attaching a pull cord to one end of the pipe must be used. The present invention relates to such a method, and it will be apparent that the invention can also be applied to other drawing operations on pipes.
According to the method according to the present invention, an elongated member, which has a shoulder in the region of one of its ends, is inserted into the end part of the tube, and this end part of the tube is symmetrically deformed with respect to its longitudinal axis, around which in the direction Tube axel extending tube end portion with a central hole through which the elongated member passes and with a number of internal projections against which the shoulder abuts,
when in the direction of the axis of the pipe end part and away from the pipe, a train is exerted on the elongated member, and in order to reduce the effective outer diameter of the end part of the pipe. The elongate member can be a solid pull rod or the pull cord itself.
Preferably, the deformation of the end part of the pipe is brought about by the fact that the wall of the pipe is pressed radially inward at at least three equally spaced points in such a way that a number of pipe wall tabs are formed on the end part of the pipe, which are separated from one another by deer wall parts, those
the pipe axis zilliegenrle surface parts form parts of the boundary surface of the hole for the elongated member.
The deformation can be over a considerable axial length of the pipe, z. B. accordingly a length of one to two diameters of the tube, be uniform, and then gradually merge into the full diameter and into the tubular circular shape.
The deformation of the end part of the tube must be such that the end of the elongate member on which the shoulder is provided can lie in that part of the end part of the tube whose enclosed space widens gradually away from the central hole, as the shoulder against this part is pressed when the elongated member is pulled in: ent speaking direction. This type of end deformation and arrangement of the elongated limb ensures a sufficiently strong anchoring.
At the same time, the deformation can cause a local overall reduction in the pipe size; in such a way that the effective outer diameter of the end part of the pipe is reduced. For the drawing process, the shoulder must be of such a size that the pipe part which surrounds this shoulder can still pass through the drawing die.
The drawing illustrates an exemplary embodiment of the anchoring method and devices that are useful for performing the method.
Fig. 1 is an elevation and partly a longitudinal section through the tube, the end portion of which is swaged around a tie rod.
FIG. 2 is an end view of the tube shown in FIG. 1, with the pull rod in section, FIG. 3 is an elevation of the inserted tube, FIG. 4 is an elevation of an immersion tool, partially in section and with certain parts broken away .
FIG. 5 is a section along line V -V of FIG. 4.
6 is an elevation of the one jaw of the plunging tool on a larger scale, FIG. 7 is an elevation of a pipe with a drawn cable and pull rope, partially in section, FIG. 8 is a longitudinal section through the connecting device of the cable and Pull rope on a larger scale and FIG. 9 a rear view of a detail.
The present invention was developed in connection with the application of an aluminum jacket to the body of an electrical cable, and an example of the method is described below in this context.
It should be made possible by this method from pulling a tube wound on a drum th by a straightening device and bringing it into a position in which it receives a cable body. 1 shows an anchorage with which this operation can be carried out without difficulty. 1 with a pull rope and 2 with the end part of the tube referred to on which the anchoring of the pull rope is to be made, for which purpose a train rod 3 is used. This has at its rear end a threaded part 4, onto which a nut 5 is screwed.
This nut forms a shoulder that comes to rest on a number of subsequently formed in the pipe end 2 inner abutments.
The pull rod 3 with the screwed nut 5 is inserted into the end part of the tube, whereupon this is radially plunged, whereby the tube receives a number of internal projections. This radial compression or compression takes place by means of the tool shown in FIGS. 4 and 5. This exercises at four in the same Abstän located on the circumference of the pipe Stel len a radially inward pressure on the pipe wall, whereby the pipe end is deformed, as shown in Fig. 2 and 3 ge shows.
According to FIG. 2, the pipe end then has four tabs or ribs 6 which are equiangularly spaced from one another and between which the pipe wall: protrudes towards the pipe axis at 7. These intermediate parts 7 define a central hole 8 that is set through the pull rod, as shown in FIG.
The intermediate parts 7 are. considerable length on the pull rod. Behind the parts 7, a gradual transition 9 ('Fig.1) to the full diameter and the full circular shape of the tube is provided at the end of the pipe res 2. The end of the tie rod 3, on which the nut 5 forming a shoulder sits, is located in the transition parts 9 and exercises
when the rod 3 is pulled to the left in relation to FIG. 1, a train is exerted by pressing on the latter.
A shackle 10, which is connected to the pull rope 1, is attached to the front end of the pull rod 3. The front end of the train rod 3 has a head 11 on which the shackle engages. The latter and the rope 1 are shown in Fig. 8 and the @ shackle is subsequently used in connection with Fig..8 and. 9 described.
That in Fig. 4 and! The installation tool shown in FIG. 5 has four jaws 12 aiif which can each be radially displaced between two face plates 13. By turning a cam ring 14 clockwise (according to FIG. 4), each jaw 12 can be moved inward. The 'L # okkenring 14 has four control surfaces! 15, one for each jaw.
A connection is provided between each jaw and its control surface in that the control surface rests against a roller 16 mounted on a spindle 17, which spindle flanges 18 of the jaw 12 and narrow slots provided in the end plates 13 19 enforced. By means of springs 20 attached at one end to each end of each spindle 17 and at the other end to the end plates 13; Bolts 21 are a related party, the rollers 16 are pressed against their respective control surfaces 15.
The end plates 1'3 are fastened by means of lugs 213 provided on their inner surfaces and bolts that penetrate the plates and lugs and fasten nuts; 24 held at a distance from each other. In Fig. 5, the lines 26 show the contact surfaces of the two War zen. Each face plate 13 has a round opening 27.
The two openings are opposite one another and can: receive the radially upset tube end: When the cam ring 14 is rotated in the corresponding direction; the four jaws 12 are pressed radially inwards against the tube in order to deform it in the manner described above. Each basque has a rounded inner end 28 with rounded edges 2; 9, as shown in FIG.
When a jacket is applied to a cable body, the tube which is to form the jacket can be pulled from a drum and laid out in a straight line with the aid of the device shown in FIG.
After removing the pipe. Before the drum, the deformed end part of the tube is cut off behind the end of the pull rod having the shoulder, so that the tube has its original diameter again. It will. now a flask at one end of a thin one. Attached to the rope and blown through the pipe with compressed air.
This thin 'rope is then used to pull the .schwe rere pull rope through the pipe, .. Now the pull rope is connected to the cable in the manner shown in Fig. 7 and 8 and the cable is pulled into the pipe by means of the pull rope . This fastening method ren will now be described with reference to FIGS. 7 and 8.
The cable body shown in FIG. 7 has stranded conductors 30 provided with insulation 31, this insulation having been removed from the conductor ends over a certain distance. A cylindrical metal sleeve 32 is placed over the front end of the conductor and has an outer diameter not larger than that of the insulation 31 and preferably somewhat smaller than this.
The inner surface of the sleeve has a serrated portion 33 and the wall 34 at the front end of the sleeve is of considerable thickness.
A threaded part 37 provided with a mandrel 3: 6 penetrates an axially arranged threaded hole 35 in the sleeve wall 314 and its rear part 38 bil det a tip. If the - mandrel 3,6 - is screwed into the sleeve end wall 34, its tip 38 is forced between the conductors 30h and drives them apart so that they are fixed. against the serrated part 33.
the sleeve 32 are pressed, whereby a secure connection between the mandrel 3, 6 and the conductors 30 is established. A Biuldring 39 on the mandrel. 36 has flattened sides 50 for the purpose of making it easier to screw in the mandrel 36. At the front end of the mandrel 36 a head 40 is provided on which the shackle 10 shown in FIG. 1 engages, to which the pull rope 1 is attached.
By means of this rope, the cable body can now be drawn into the pipe 2 in the position shown in FIG. 7.
The shackle 10 shown in FIGS. 1 and 7 to 9 has in its side wall a recess 41 open at the rear shackle end.
A larger recess 42 is provided in front of the latter, which is also open in the shackle side wall and is connected to the recess 41, with an inner shoulder 43 which forms an abutment for the head 40 of the mandrel 36 between these two recesses .
In FIG. 1, the shoulder -13 forms a counter bearing for the head 11 of the connecting mandrel 3.
A rotatable connection is provided between the head 11 and the shackle 10 in FIG. 1 and between the head 40 and the shackle in FIG. 8 in that the heads 11, 40 and the boundary wall surfaces of the shackle recesses are cylindrical. The boundary wall surfaces of the latter are denoted by 44 and 4'5 in FIG.
The leading end of the shackle 10 has an eyelet 47 of the pull rope 1 penetrating bolt 46, which eyelet is arranged in a slot 49 in the leading end of the shackle 10.
The cable body may have a single conductor, using the tip of the mandrel 36 to press the conductor strands against the serrated portion of the sleeve 32 snugly.
Fig. 7 shows the pulled through the tube 2 NEN cable body, wherein the anchoring shown in Fig. 8 between the pull rope 1 and cable body was used. Fig. 7 shows the Ver drive the anchoring between the pull rope 1, cable body 30, 31 and pipe 2, with which the cable body and the pipe can be pulled together through a drawing iron to the diameter of the pipe, for the purpose of full press on the same on your cable body, to zoom out.
For this purpose, a further end part of the tube 2 tangles radially compressed, for the purpose of forming a number of internal projections 7, as described above in connection with FIGS. 1 to 3. The shoulder resting against these projections is formed by the leading end 48 of the shackle 10 which forms a shoulder.
In Fig. 7, instead of the pull rod 3 of Fig. 1, against which the tube 2 is radially compressed, -ein from a pull rope 1 -and shackles 10 existing pulling member, the pulling rope. 1 is flexible and penetrates the central hole of the compressed pipe end part.
In: Pig. 1 and 7, the radial plunging of the pipe is accompanied by a diameter reduction of the plunged pipe end, as can be seen from FIG. 3, as a result of which the pipe end can be more easily inserted into the straightening or drawing iron.
In FIG. 7, the cable body is drawn into the pipe 2 from right to left and the pipe is also pressed onto the cable body as a jacket in this direction of movement. If this sheathing is to be carried out in the opposite direction, the tension member must be attached to the other end of the cable body and the adjacent pipe end must be compressed radially around this member.
The anchoring of the tension rope 1 on the cable body can be done while the cable body is being prepared for pulling in or at another stage of the sheathing process.
The pulling element 1 can form part of a towing part or a belt with an eyelet at both ends, with which! leading end of the tow rope can be connected.
