Set comprising a die and a die holder for hot metal spinning. The present invention relates to an assembly comprising a die and a die holder for the hot extrusion of metals.
High temperature resistant special steel dies are used for metal spinning. Since this metal is generally of a high price, various means have been devised to reduce the quantity of this metal necessary to manufacture the die. Thus, sets are often used comprising two parts, one in metal resistant to high temperature which constitutes the die itself, the other serving as a support, executed in steel of lesser value and less hardness. , and commonly called die holder.
The most frequently used assembly comprises a die fitted into a die holder. However, special precautions must be taken to ensure the link between the die and the die holder. Indeed, at the end of the spinning operation, there remains in the extrusion press a small part, unspun, of the ingot, referred to as the batch name, which is obviously integral with a part of the extruded ingot engaged in the Faculty.
To separate this base from the die, a force is exerted on the latter, generally transmitted by means of the die holder. In order to prevent the die then coming out of the die holder, it is necessary to fix it securely in the latter. One of the solutions adopted for this purpose consists in force-fitting the die into the die holder, the fitting being cylindrical or conical.
We also provide; the fixing of the die on the die holder using screws the head of which is embedded in the die. However, all these solutions have the drawback of a long or difficult dismantling.
The present invention, due to the work of MM. Jacques Sejournet and Jean Dëlcroix, has for object an assembly comprising a die and a die holder, which, while procuring a saving of special steel constituting the die, makes it possible to avoid the drawbacks mentioned above.
According to the invention, the die has a tapered outer surface, the angle at the top of the cone being slightly greater than 9, the wedging angle for steel, and the top of the cone being located on the side of the cone. die, while the die holder has, in its central part, a frustoconical bore at the same angle at the top as the outer surface of the die, a counter-die being provided to hold the die in the hole in the die holder.
This assembly makes it possible, on the one hand, to release the die from the base at the end of the spinning opera tion, without risk of seeing it separate from the die holder and, on the other hand, to separate without difficulty the die of the die holder as soon as it is removed from its support.
The die can, for example, be made up of two separate parts along a plane perpendicular to the axis of the die, which makes it possible to manufacture in special steel only the part of the die which constitutes the entrance to the die. die and the spinning orifice itself, and thus achieve additional savings.
The appended drawing shows, on the one hand, methods of current construction and, on the other hand, two embodiments of the subject of the invention, given by way of example.
Fig. 1 is a longitudinal sectional diagram of the common tooling of a metal extrusion press.
Fig. 2 is an axial section, on a large scale, of a conventional type of die combined with a die holder of conventional construction.
Fig. 3 is a similar view of another usual type of such a combination.
Fig. 4 is a similar view of a first embodiment of the assembly comprising a die and a die holder.
Fig. 5 is a similar view of a second embodiment ,.
The press tool shown in FIG. 1 comprises a cylindrical container 1, open at both ends, a die 2 which is kept bare applied to one end of the container by a counter die 3, and a worm 4 which itself rests on the base of the press, shown diagrammatically in 5.
The ingot to be extruded, heated beforehand, is introduced into the container 1, then discharged through the die, in the direction of arrow f, using a punch, not shown, entering through the end of the container. opposite to that on which the die is applied. g at the end of a spinning operation, an unspun pellet remains in the container.
The lock 4 and the counter-die 3 are then removed and a longitudinal traction is exerted on the die, by means provided for this purpose and not shown, to separate it from the container and to remove it from the base by making iron part of the spun product in the die, in the reverse direction to the spinning; the base is during this movement away either retained by jaws provided for this purpose, or held by adhesion in the container if the necessary measures have been taken for this purpose.
The die 2 must, in order to resist in particular the friction exerted by the metal during spinning, be made of special steel, of high price. The sector is wearing out despite everything, it is necessary. . change it relatively often ..
To reduce the expense resulting from this need, the die 2, in one piece, shown in FIG. 1, by an assembly comprising a die 2a, mounted in a die holder 6, as shown in FIG. 2.
Only the die 2a, reduced to the part subject to the greatest wear during spinning, is made of special steel, which makes it possible to achieve significant savings. The die holder 6, held against the end of the container by the counter die 3, itself blocked by the latch 4, acts as a shutter previously filled by the die 2 itself and can be made up of ordinary steel.
However, the assembly between the die 2a and the die holder 6 must be carried out in such a way that the die 2a is not torn out from the die holder during the separation of the pellet, an operation during which the die is moved. sector, in the sense of.
arrow f, with respect to a part of the spun product which is still engaged in the die, which determines a traction on the die in the direction of the arrows f x. t1 this effect, a first solution, shown in FIG. 2, consists of force-fitting the die 2a which, in the example chosen, has a conical outer surface, but could also be cylindrical, in the die holder 6. However, if the hooping thus produced is not is not energetic enough, the die 2a risks being unwillingly all torn off during the separation of the batch.
On the other hand, if the shrinking is very energetic, it becomes very difficult, if not practically impossible, to separate the die from the die holder when it is desired to change it due to its wear.
Another solution which has been adopted consists of using a conical die 2b (fig. 3) and fixing it in the die holder 6 using screws 7 whose heads 8 are embedded in the front face of the die. Faculty. The assembly can thus be made very solid, but its dismantling is always long and can be made very difficult when the heads 8 of the screws 7 have been deformed under the action of the high pressures brought into play during spinning.
To remedy these drawbacks, use is made (FIG. 4) of a die 2c having a conical outer surface 9, the apex of which is turned towards the inlet side of the die, that is to say towards the container when the die is. . in place, the angle at the top of the cone being slightly greater than 9, the wedging angle of the steel. This die is engaged in a frustoconical passage, at the same angle at the top as the outer surface of the die, provided in the die holder 6c. During spinning, the die rests on the counter-die 3 held by the lock 4.
During the separation of the base, the forces exerted on the fi 1 = era in the direction of the arrows' f 1, by the part of the extruded part which is still engaged therein, can only apply the die more strongly in the holder -Faculty. AZ on the contrary, as soon as the die and die holder assembly is separated from the press, the die can be extracted without difficulty from the die holder, the angle at the top of the outer surface of the die having been chosen so that it no jamming occurs.
To achieve an additional saving of expensive metal, it is possible, as shown in FIG. 5, constitute the die in two parts 2'c and 2 "c, separated in a plane perpendicular to the axis of the die. Only part 2'c, constituting the die itself, is made of special steel, part 2 "c, constituting simply a kind of wedge, being of ordinary steel.
