Process for the production of a mainspring for watches and mainspring obtained by this process. It is well known that carbon steels that are hardened and tempered in the classic manner so that they preferably have a martensitic structure and a modulus of elasticity of 19,000 to 21,000 kg / mm2 are generally used to manufacture mainsprings for watches.
Such spring strips are, before they are hardened, either rolled down on the wide strip and then cut, or they are rolled from wire to strip. It is characteristic of these springs that they are hardened and that the finished spring band has no texture whatsoever.
The present invention now relates to a method for producing a mainspring for clocks, which is characterized in that an iron-containing alloy wire-shaped alloy Lmg having a cubic, space-centered crystal lattice is homogenized and quenched, then drawn down cold and cold is rolled to form a strip, where the ratio of the cross-section reduction when drawing the wire to the cross-section reduction due to the flat rolling of the wire is adjusted so
that the direction of the maximum value of the modulus of elasticity is predominantly oriented parallel to the rolling direction of the strip, which is followed by post-treatment at temperatures of 200-600 C to achieve an E-blod-Ltl of at least 21,000 kg / mm9. On the basis of tests, it was found that in alloys with a body-centered cubic lattice, both the 111 and 110 directions result in maximum values of the aforementioned modulus of elasticity.
Tests have also shown that, for example, a steel wire with 0.6 to 1.0% C, which is homogenized at a temperature of over 700 C and then quenched to 400 to 600 C by an isothermal process, preferably in the pearlitic state, especially troostitic and / or sorbitic state,
which enables the desired orientation, namely a pronounced accumulation of the 111 and 110 directions, when the strip is pulled down cold and then rolled. On the other hand, tests have confirmed that Martensitic hardened and tempered steel strips do not produce the desired preferred direction (111-Lind 110 in the rolling direction).
In order to get a sharply aligned texture, the wire is preferably drawn down cold and cold rolled in such a way that a total cross-sectional reduction of at least 80% takes place. After homogenization and cold drawing, the starting wire will preferably have a strength value between 180 and 260 kg / mm 2, depending on the wire diameter.
The tape cold-rolled from such wire gives a sharper texture the further the total cold deformation is carried out. The 110 direction lies essentially in the rolling direction and in the rolling plane, the 111 direction essentially in the rolling direction and at an acute angle to the rolling plane.
With such a texture rolling, an increased value for the modulus of elasticity and the elastic limit is obtained. At the same time, the crystal layer with the 110 direction in the rolling plane and in the rolling direction and the cube surface in the rolling plane provides the highest possible resistance to breakage of the mainspring transversely to the longitudinal direction of the strip.
The rolling of strips from so-called. Patented wire is known. These strips are rolled from wires with a strength of less than 20 kg, or intermediate anneals are carried out between the rolling stages or the material is tempered between the rolling stages. Patenting, i.e. isothermal hardening, is also suitably matched to the carbon content with regard to the annealing temperature and the temperature of the quenching bath.
Any commercially available patented spring wire is generally not suitable for texture rolling. This is the reason why up to now the texture described above was only imperfectly or not at all available even with strips for watch springs rolled down by patented wire; also the importance of this texture image for mainspring for clocks had not yet been recorded.
It was also found that the best texture spring is achieved when the iron-carbon alloy with exclusion of martensite in the pearlitic, e.g. B. in particular sorbitic state is present and the strength value of the cold-drawn wire is more than 200 kg / mm2.
The following experiment was carried out on a body-centered cubic iron-carbon alloy containing 0.85% C. The steel wire of 2.3 mm diameter, which was homogenized by the known patenting process at high temperature and quenched, was pulled down cold to a strength of 260 kg / mm2, up to a thickness of 0.6 mm, and then cold. to a tape 0.1 mm thick and 1., 5 mm; Rolled width, and then tempered at 250 C for one hour.
The X-ray texture determination shows point-like reflections, that is, a very sharp texture with 111. = and 1.10 directions; in the rolling direction, with the 110 direction lying in the rolling plane. Thus, the maximum value of the modulus of elasticity lies in the longitudinal direction of the spring hinge.
The tape, which had a hardness of 700 Vickers before hardening, has a hardness of 820 Vickers after hardening for one hour at 250 ° C. The modulus of elasticity was determined to be 22,000 kg / mm2. The clock drive spring made from this band gave a moment of force of .840 g / mm, which exceeds the moment of force of a texture-free, martensitically hardened steel spring without exhibiting the brittleness of the latter.
The spring broke in the barrel at 9,300 windings, while the steel spring with the same spring force hardened according to the previous method broke after 200 to 600 windings.
Furthermore, a second spring band was made from the same Fe-C alloy by cold drawing a wire 1.6 mm in diameter with a strength of 200 kg / mm9 to a thickness of 0.6 mm. The tape rolled from this wire, 0.1 mm thick and 1.5 mm wide, showed a large scatter in the 110 and 111 directions of the texture.
This fuzzy texture resulted in a modulus of elasticity of only 19500 kg / mm2 and a moment of force of the spring of only 700 g / mm. In the case of this tape, too, the hardening and tempering only increased the hardness by about 106 Vickers units.
This example clearly shows how, with the correct ratio of the cold deformation of the wire by drawing to the cold deformation by rolling, an increase in the modulus of elasticity of more than 10% can be achieved through a highly developed texture (position of the maximum values of the modulus of elasticity in the direction of the strip) could.
These attempts show the superiority, that is to say the technical progress, of the tallbands produced by the new process compared to the tapes rolled by known methods on a wide strip.
The composition of the pen. can differ with regard to the C content and the usual manganese and silicon contents. The isothermal hardening will expediently depend on the composition so that martensite formation can be avoided.
