<B> Additional patent </B> to main patent no. 235614. Process for the production of an aluminum-silicon alloy. Main patent no. 235614 contains an Al-Si alloy with 5 to 20% silicon and, if necessary, additions of in particular manganese, 3Iagnesium, copper, nickel, etc.
described, which is characterized by a phosphorus content below 0.00018 0.00005%. This alloy is characterized by a special structure and improved strength properties compared to alloys with a higher phosphorus content.
The main patent also describes a method for producing such an Al — Si alloy, which is characterized in that the phosphorus content is suppressed to below 0.00018 0.00005%. For example, an Al-Si alloy can be treated in the melt flow by means of phosphorus-removing agents in such quantities, at such temperatures and for so long that the phosphorus content falls below the specified limit.
As phosphorus-removing agents, alkali fluorides or alkali fluoride-containing salts can be used here, which are brought to act on the Al-Si alloys, for example at 800-1000.
According to German patent no. 870186, it was then further established that the reduction in the phosphorus content can also be brought about by using the alloy salt at temperatures above the liquidus point of the Al-Si alloy, for alloys with 5 to 15% Si preferably below 650,
in the case of eutectic alloys with 8 to 13 / o Si, preferably 600 and below, treated with a molten salt. For this purpose, salts and salt mixtures are suitable which are at least for the most part liquid at the working temperature, with which: Aluminum does not react and does not add any interfering constituents to the alloy, preferably those that can be easily separated from the metal due to their specific weight.
The treatment is carried out, for example, with mixtures of alkali metal or alkaline earth metal chloride, but other salts can also be used. After the salt treatment, which can be supported by shaking, for example with sonic or ultrasound, scraping is carried out and, if necessary, the salt treatment is repeated several times with portions of about 1% each, based on the molten metal.
The present invention relates to a method for producing an Al-Si alloy with 5 to 201 / o Si and with a phosphorus content below 0.00018 0.00005 0/0 according to claim II of the main patent, which is characterized in
that a separation from phosphorus-rich fractions takes place by letting it stand and scraping off the melt at temperatures above the liquidus point. In the case of alloys with 5 to 15% silicon, it is preferable to work below 650, in the case of alloys with 8 to 131% silicon, preferably below 600.
In this case, the dross that forms can be removed from time to time, preferably with occasional agitation of the melt, for example by stirring, after which time is allowed for the dross to settle. The melt can be scraped off repeatedly while allowing it to stand, and occasionally stirred in between. Instead of stirring, treatment by shaking the metal melt, in particular by shaking, can also be used, for example by means of sound or ultrasound.
An alloy with 13% silicon, 0.34% iron, the remainder aluminum was melted and with frequent stirring. Held at 600 for 1/2 hour, scraped off and the same process repeated again.
The phosphorus content fell from 0.000861 / o after 11/2 hours to below 0.00005%; the alloy shows a lamellar structure.
The improvement of the mechanical properties can be seen in the table below:
EMI0002.0039
Yield strength <SEP> strength <SEP> elongation
<tb> Untreated <SEP> 9.8 <SEP> kg / mm2 <SEP> 21.5 <SEP> kg / mm2 <SEP> 4 <SEP> 0/0

Alloys with more than 15% silicon can still be varied by combining the standing and scraping with the salt or gas treatments already used for the same purpose in the same temperature range, in particular by treatment with at least largely liquid salts or
with the fluoride treatment described in the main patent at elevated temperature or finite filtration treatment in the molten state, as described in the additional Sehweiss patent no.297680.
In the process according to the invention, the treatment can also be carried out on the finished alloy or on the Al-Si alloy prior to alloying any other components or generally on the phosphorus-containing components used for alloy production in the molten state. Any upgrading that may have to be carried out is preferably not carried out until after the phosphorus has been removed.
