Process for the production of lacquer coatings. It has been found that excellent paint coatings are obtained if solutions of compounds which contain at least two urethane residues in the molecule and of film-forming substances which contain groups capable of reacting with 1'rethane groups in the molecule are applied to the substrate to be treated - -en applies and heated to temperatures of at least 1..500.
Suitable compounds which contain at least two urethane groups in the molecule can be obtained in a manner known per se by the reaction of compounds which contain at least two isocyanate groups in the molecule, such as toluene or chlorophenylene diisoeyanate, diisocyanatodiphenyl metha n or ethane , Diisocyanatodicyclohexylmethan or -zithane or Triisoeyanatobexizol, with.
Alcohols such as ethanol, butanol, Cyelohexanol, Ulykolmonoalkyläthern or esters. You can also use compounds obtained from the di- and polyisocyanates mentioned by reaction with the alcohols mentioned in the presence of water.
Examples of film-forming substances that contain groups capable of reacting with urethane groups are: polyesters made from polybasic acids and polyhydric alcohols, cellulose derivatives, phenol or ilarnea-formaldehyde resins or rosin esters of polyhydric alcohols with free oxy groups. The components can be used in the usual paint solvents, e.g. B.
Esters, glycol monoalkyl ethers and their esters, benzene hydrocarbons, alcohols or mixtures thereof can be dissolved. The solutions are usually stable at ordinary temperature and can be processed both without and with pigments. You can also add resins or fillers to the paints. The application of the paints to the substrate and the production of the coatings takes place. best in the usual way for stoving enamels.
You can apply several layers on top of each other, whereby you can also use other varnishes in between or at the beginning or at the end.
The coatings obtained are characterized by great elasticity. due to excellent surface hardness, high gloss due to filling power and resistance to organic solvents such. B. gasoline or benzene hydrocarbons, as well as against water.
Example .1: A made from about 58% drying fatty acids,
14% glycerol and 28% phthalic acid, prepared in the usual way, is made with the same amount by weight of an alkyd resin by reacting chlorine-p-phenylene diisocyanate with ethanol. manufactured diurethane in one. Paint solvent dissolved.
Man paints. with this solution black plate and burns in at 180. The coating obtained is highly elastic and, compared with a pure alkyd resin coating, is distinguished by better swelling resistance and surface hardness.
Example 2 Equal parts of one from about 32 parts of phthalic acid are dissolved; 39 parts of drying fatty acids, 3 parts of paraffin oxy dation and lead fatty acids. 24 parts of trimethylol propa.n alkyd resin and a diurethane made from chlorine-p-phen --lendiisoeyanat and glycol monoäthyläther in a common lacquer solvent and burns on the Laek
Black plate at 1.80 to 200. The coating obtained is characterized by better surface hardness and resistance to swelling than that which can only be obtained with the alkyd resin.
Example 3: An alkyd resin made from 40 parts of phthalic acid glyeeride and 60 parts of unsaturated fatty acids is used with. the same amount by weight of a ssiurethane prepared from chlorine-p-phenylene diisoeyanate and n-butanol dissolved in a conventional lacquer solvent. A stoving enamel is obtained with properties similar to those in the previous examples.
Example 4: A resin mixture consisting of equal parts by weight of a phenol-formaldehyde condensation product and a resin prepared from adipic acid and trimethylol propa.n is mixed with the same amount by weight of a 1 mol of chlorine-p- phenylene diisocyanate,
1 mol of water and 1 mol of glycol monoethyl ether prepared diurethat dissolved in a lacquer solvent. The lacquer gives shiny, highly elastic, hard-surface, non-sticky coatings, even when baked at about 160
while you have to use considerably higher temperatures without using the urethane without maintaining the same hardness and elasticity values.
