Control device of an internal combustion engine fitted with an injection pump
of fuel with regulator.
The object of the invention is a device for controlling an internal combustion engine provided with a fuel injection pump with regulator.
This device is characterized according to the invention by a housing, fixed to the casing of the infection pump and in which slides a piston which penetrates a. inside the casing of the pump and which follows movements of a moving part of the regulator at each position (which corresponds to a determined fuel flow rate, said piston actuating on the other hand a lever connected to a wheel toothed meshing with a fixed pinion, sllr a shaft carrying an indicator needle moving in front of a graduated dial.
The drawing shows, by way of example, an embodiment of the device according to the
R ention:
Fig. I is a schematic view of this embodiment.
Fig. 2 is a front view of the housing of this embodiment.
Fig. 3 is a sectional view taken along III-III of FIG. 2.
The a fig. 4 is a sectional view taken along IV-IV of FIG. 2.
According to these figures, the fuel injection pump of the engine having this embodiment comprises a centrifugal governor consisting of two masses 1 mounted on the shaft 2 of the pump driven by the crankshaft of the engine. The masses 1, moving under the action of centrifugal force and at the same time subjected to the action of the antagonist spring 3, move a sleeve 4 along the axis 2. This sleeve, by means of a lever 5, operates the pump regulator 6.
The displacement of the sleeve 4 takes place in the direction corresponding to an increase in fuel injected into the engine when the speed of the latter decreases because the load on the engine increases and in the direction corresponding to a decrease in this quantity of fuel when this load decreases and consequently the engine speed increases. Each position of the sleeve 4 corresponds to a determined fuel flow rate.
To the casing 7 of the pump is fixed a casing in which is mounted a shaft 8 which rotates in bearings 9 and carries at its free front end a needle 10 which moves in front of a graduated dial 11.
In the lower part of the housing slides a piston 12 which penetrates inside the casing 7 and presses by its free end against the sleeve 4 of the regulator, so that when this sleeve moves to the left of FIG. 1, it pushes back the piston 12 and that, when it moves to the right, it lets the piston 12 slide to the right under the action of the counter spring 15.
On the shaft 8 of the indicator needle is freely mounted, by means of a bearing 16, a lever 17 whose lower end 18 bears against a shoulder 19 formed in the piston 12 and whose upper arm is subjected to the action of the spring 15 which permanently applies the lower arm of the lever against this shoulder of the piston 12 and consequently causes this piston 12 to press against the sleeve 4 of the regulator.
The lever 17 ends in a fork between the branches of which passes a pin 20 fixed to the toothed wheel 21 in such a way that the lever 17, by oscillating, turns this toothed wheel which meshes with a pinion 22 fixed to the shaft 8 which carries the indicator needle 10. When the motor having the device described operates in such a way that it. There is a determined relationship between the positions of the sleeve 4 and the power supplied by the motor for these positions, the graduation of the dial 11 is preferably established in power units taking into account this relationship and the characteristics of the transmission so that the The needle 10 constantly indicates on this dial 11 the power developed by the motor.
To facilitate the adjustment of the device, the piston 12 comprises an adjustable stop 13 which protrudes beyond the end of the body of this piston and constantly presses on the sleeve 4. The position of this stop is adjusted by a screw 14 which , by turning, allows easy adjustment of the length of this piston and therefore the position of lever 17 relative to sleeve 4 of the regulator. In addition, it is possible to adjust the coupling of the lever 17 with the toothed wheel 21. For this purpose, the wheel 21 has several holes 23 in which the pin 20 can be fixed, which is engaged with the fork of the lever 17.
To enable the indications to be read at another location, the device described has, at the end of the shaft 8 opposite that which carries the indicator needle, a bevel gear comprising two pinions 25 and 26, the latter being integral with an axis 27 driving a flexible axis 28 which is responsible for transmitting the movement of the shaft 8 to a second indicator needle disposed in front of a second graduated screen.
