Schreibmaschine.

Typewriter. The present invention relates to typewriters with means for setting an edge stop in different ge desired positions, by remote control that allows the movement of the stop for the car without the operator ever having to put his hands on the edge stop himself.
Stop adjustment mechanisms of this general type have already been used in typewriters in which the stops to be delivered are arranged behind the paper carrying devices and are difficult to access.
In recent years, the inventors have tried to make it easier to set up such difficult-to-use stops. Some proposals are to let go of the stops and apply spring pressure against an associated one. To move the counter-stop, on the initiative of an actuator that is provided on the carriage or on the keyboard of the machine. The operation sol rather devices requires many delicate manual operations of the car in the indicated direction, so that the car comes exactly into the position in which the stop should strike the counter stop.
At the right moment, the above-mentioned actuator must be brought into position again in order to keep the stop in the newly set position. The adjustment work usually involves movements of the operator's hands to the keyboard and away from it; such movements are annoying, tiresome and confusing, and the operator often refrains from making desired marginal adjustments in and of themselves, unless absolutely necessary.
In other known devices, the carriage must first be moved by hand to the left or to the right in order to prepare for an edge position in order to bring the stop to be delivered to the counter-stop. After this manual displacement of the car, and nvar only when this is fully executed, a control organ must be actuated to release the stop for the purpose of its subsequent setting -and to hold it against the counter stop.
Another Actuate supply is to move the carriage by hand, in a cumbersome and time consuming manner, to a position corresponding to that in which the stop is to be stationed. Additional Lich follows as a further part of the setting procedure, the re-setting of the control member to release the Randan strike for the purpose of blocking this Randan strike in the last set position.
In the two mechanisms mentioned above, the stop adjustment processes rub the operator on, because of the changing steps to be taken, which include movements of the hand away from the keyboard and, in particular, adjustments of the carriage that are laborious with the hand at the right moment and with a considerable union Consideration must be given.
In the previously known mechanisms, in particular, settings of the edge stop cannot be made reliably and quickly by convenient and easy manual operations that are entirely limited to the keyboard of the machine, or at least to the immediate vicinity of this keyboard.
The invention now relates to a typewriter with a left-hand and a right-hand edge stop, each of which is normally secured against longitudinal displacement and can come into contact with a counter-stop to limit the extent of the longitudinal movement of the carriage, with remotely controllable means for setting this Edge stops are provided so that the position of this edge stop can be changed by releasing each edge when it is next to the corresponding counter deflection, and then moving the carriage,
and after the subsequent locking of this edge stop in a new position, the possibility of movement of the car is re-determined, characterized by a power drive for giving a movement to the car to stop the new edge to be set under the control of the means for setting the edge stop first to the Bring counter-stop, also marked is characterized by means for controlling the power drive for the purpose of subdividing the movement given by this to the car in one sense or the other in gradually successive small portions of movement under the action of the remotely controllable setting means. standing edge stop.
The accompanying drawing shows an exemplary embodiment of the typewriter according to the invention, to the extent that this is necessary to understand the invention. Fig. 9 is a schematic, perspective view of a hand-operated line end blocking mechanism and a carriage switch mechanism that cooperates with buttons that operate it independently of the blocking mechanism, and Fig.10 is a plan view of part of a mechanism for moving the edge stops Left. In FIG. 1, 15 denotes a carriage which comprises two end plates 19 connected to one another by a rail 16.
The rail 16 moves linearly between two parallel guides 18 using roller bearings 17, said guides 18 being attached to side walls 20 of the main frame of the machine. The carriage includes the usual roller 21 for carrying sheets of paper. The usual set of types is provided to hit on the front side of the roller all in the same place, as indicated for a type lever 22 in phantom. The carriage is constantly pulled to the left by a spring motor 23 through the intermediary of a tension band 24, but a conventional circuit 25 with a ratchet wheel 26 normally acts on the carriage to stop it against the action of the spring motor 23.
A vertical shaft 27 connects the ratchet wheel with a pinion 28 which is in a handle with a rack 30, which is connected to the carriage 15 and therefore follows its movements. Said circuit 25 comprises an oscillating frame 33 which carries a retaining pawl 31 which normally retains the car by engaging the ratchet wheel 26, but in the usual way allows the latter to move freely to the right, ie in the backward direction. The oscillating frame 33 also includes a pawl 34 and is pivotably mounted on an axis 29 which extends transversely through the machine.
With every tapping process and every time there is a gap, the swing frame 33 receives a short downward movement impulse, the holding pawl 31 disengaging from the teeth of the indexing wheel 26 and the indexing pawl 34 coming between two teeth of the indexing wheel to allow the latter to a little less than rotating a letter width. In response to the backward movement of the oscillating frame 33, which immediately follows, the ratchet wheel completes its rotation between the spaces with the result that the carriage has been shifted one space further.
The 1yIechanismus for operating the type lever 22 comprises type keys 36 in a keyboard 39 (Fig. 7), which selectively bring types of lever actuating members 37 with a constantly rotating, toothed drive member 38 into engagement, by mediating organs to which a Hook 40 (Fig. 9) belongs. Each time a type lever 22 is actuated, the carriage is shifted one step forward by actuating the circuit 25 in the usual manner.
The normal limits of the movement of the car are adjustable by a left-hand and a right-hand edge stop 44 and 45, which both stops working together with a counter stop 46 (Figure 1, 5). In the example shown, the edge stops 44 and 45 are on the carriage. in the longitudinal direction of the same adjustable is introduced, on a rack 47 which is rigidly attached to the end plates 48 of the carriage 15.
As is clear from FIGS. 3, 4, 5 and 6, each of the edge stops comprises a block or body with a rectangular recess 51 which extends in the longitudinal direction of the carriage so that the edge stop can be displaced on the rack 47. Each of the edge stops 44, 45 is normally secured against such displacement on the rack by a blocking slide 52 which can slide in a vertical slot 53 which is closed at the front.
The blocking slide 52 can move in the vertical direction between the front end of the slot 53 and the front of the rack 47 and each of them has a rearwardly protruding nose 54 which comes into engagement with the teeth 55 of the rack 47 during the upward movement. Pressure springs 56, which lie under the horizontal flanges of the blocking slide 52, press the latter constantly upwards to bring the nose 54 with the rack 47 into engagement. The lower ends of the springs 56 are embedded in drilling holes in the edge stop bodies.
It can be seen from this that the setting of one or the other edge stop 44, 45 requires the downward movement of the suitable blocking slide 52. Such release movements of the blocking slides 52 are performed under the control of the keyboard in a manner which will be described below.
The counter-stop 46, which serves as a line end bolt, see FIG. 9, forms the upper end of an upright arm 60 which is arranged approximately in the middle between the side walls 20 of the typewriter, the counter-stop 46 extending upwards from a rectangular recess 61 a cover plate 62 protrudes, which belongs to a small mechanical support housing 63.
The counter-stop arm 60 has at its lower end a vertical slot 64 through which a head pin 65 carrying the arm extends, which protrudes rearward from a cross bar 66 of the machine frame to which it is attached. A spring 67 normally pulls the counter stop arm 60 up into its end position, which is determined by the lower end of the slot 64, and another spring 68 acts in the transverse direction to the counter stop end 46 normally on the right-hand wall of the recess 61 to press.
The left edge stop 44 is normally located to the left of the counter stop 46, while the right edge stop connects normally to the right of the counter stop, with both edge stops resting surfaces 70 be seated, which are directed opposite each other against the counter stop 46.
When typing a line, the carriage moves to the left and when the right-hand edge stop 45 has moved far enough, it hits the counter-stop 46 in order to move it to the left by an amount that essentially equals a letter space is, and this displacement of the counter-stop serves, as will be described later, to block the typewriter mechanism, and also prevents actuation of a Zwi- seeraumgebemechanismus, the edge stops can optionally by a simple operation that is entirely on the keyboard or keys located in the immediate vicinity thereof is restricted, d. H.
can be set by remote control. This A setting process comprises different, successive steps, including a movement of the car by power drive in the appropriate sense, for the purpose of introducing the edge stop to be set against the counter stop 46, releasing the appropriate edge stop and holding the released edge stop against the Frame, the step-by-step movement of the carriage under power, namely quickly either to the right or to the left, while the released edge stop remains stationary against the counter stop for the purpose of performing an edge stop adjustment,
and finally the return of the machine to the normal state, in which the edge stop just set is blocked in its new position on its carrier.
If the right-hand edge stop 45 is to be set, the operator presses a tab key 71 to orruf a movement of the carriage 15 to the left by the motor 23 nerve and the edge stop 45 to set its line end limit position with the counter stop 46 come into contact allow. If the left-hand edge stop 44 is to be adjusted, the operator presses one of two carriage keys 7 = ',
wherein the carriage is moved in a manner yet to be described against an end position which is true by the abutment of the edge stop 44 on the counter stop 46 be.
On the tab mechanism to bring the edge stop 45 to the counter stop, a tab key, which is designated in Fig. 7 of the accompanying drawings with 71, when pressed down, an upwardly directed force actuation of a connecting member 73 shown in FIG. This actuation is achieved by an actuating member which is similar to member 37 of Figure 9, which is used to drive one of the types of mechanisms. Said member in turn rotates a lever 74 about a stationary support axis 75, with a tabu latorkamm being moved upwards.
The latter, which is denoted by 76, is then in readiness to stop the car as a result of its engagement with a tab stop 77, which is carried by a rack 78, and that deposited in a potentially effective seed position. The front end of the lever 74 is connected via a fork and pin connection to a lever 80 which is mounted in 81st and a downwardly protruding one. Arm 82 has, for moving the retaining pawl 31 of the circuit, which pawl can be brought out of engagement with the switching wheel 26 by said arm. If the tabulator comb 76 has been moved upwards by pressing the button 71, the holding pawl 31 has been released from the ratchet wheel at the same time, which means that the carriage moves to the left under the force of the spring motor 23.
The tabulator comb 76 is normally in its lower position, shown in FIG. 1, and this position is reached under the action of a spring 83 which pulls the comb downwards and to the right as seen from the front of the machine the upper end of the comb is embedded in a rectangular hole 79, allowing a small movement to the right, and furthermore the movement posibility of the comb downward is limited by a pin 84 with which the upper end of the wall of a slot in the comb in Touch comes. Said tabulator comb 76 has a shoulder 85 extending to the right, which jumps under the right-handed train of the spring 83 over a small shelf as soon as the comb reaches the position pushed before.
If tabulation is used to hold the car in tabulated positions between the end positions determined by the edge stops 44, 45, the comb 76 pushed forward because of the actuation of the tab key 71 abuts against the lowered tab stop 77, which is in its area on the right. The tabulation path is terminated when such a tab stop 77 moves the chimney 76 to the left by an amount determined by the pool 79. (Fug. L, 5). The comb shoulder 85 pushes out of the shelf 86 and allows the spring 83 to return the tabulator comb 76, the holding pawl 31 of the circuit regaining control of the carriage 15 in order to hold the latter in the last position reached.
If the right-hand edge stop 45 is to be brought into contact with the counter-stop 46 in order to bring about its Linienendebe limit position, as the first step in setting this edge stop, the tab key 71 may have to be pressed several times so that the carriage is moved far enough. Furthermore, it is possible that no tab stop 77 has been set, which causes the retraction of the comb 76 when the edge stop and the counter stop come into contact with one another for the purpose of setting the edge.
In order to bring about the return of the comb 76, the movement of the counter-stop arm 60 to the left at the touching the end of the line is used to return the comb 76.
In detail, a pin 87 is provided, the stop arm 60 from the counter. to which it is rigidly attached. protrudes to the rear (Fig. 1). This pin accomplishes by pushing against the right side of the tabulator comb a shift of the latter to the left in order to release the shoulder 85 from the shelf 86, whereby the tabu latorkamm from the area of the tabulator stops 77 is returned. Thus, the comb 76 is always automatically returned when the edge stop 45 strikes the counter stop 46 for the purpose of limiting the line end. Of the.
Car is therefore unhindered ge let through the tab comb 76 when this car is subsequently moved for the purpose of setting the edge stop. In addition, at the end of the tabulation mentioned, the control of the circuit 25 is automatically established via the ratchet wheel.
If the left edge stop 44 is to be set, the first step is to move the carriage to the right, preferably by means of a power drive, in order to bring the said edge stop 44 up to the counter-stop 46. Such a movement of the carriage takes place under the control of one or other of the aforementioned downshift keys 72 by means of a mechanism which is now briefly described with reference to FIG.
The carriage return mechanism comprises a flexible belt 91 which extends from a take-up drum 92 to a part of an in-line switching mechanism on the carriage 15, not shown. The belt 91 runs over various guide members such as 93. The drum 92 can normally rotate freely on a shaft 94 and works with a very slightly active spring motor 95 which turns it and tightens the belt. A coupling member 96 which is rigidly connected to the winding drum 92 can also rotate freely on the shaft 94. The coupling member 96 can be moved axially on the shaft and brought into a grip with a gear 97, which is stuck on the shaft 94, by means of claws 98, which are provided on the components 96 and 97.
A pinion shaft 103, which is constantly set in Dre hung by an electric motor, not shown, drives the gear 97; but since the clutch to which the claws 98 belong is normally disengaged, the belt 91 normally does not return the carriage either. The coupling member 96 is normally held out of engagement by a locking mechanism comprising a lock 104, FIG. 3. This bolt 104 is mounted in 105 on the right end plate 20 of the machine. It has a shoulder which normally lies above the right end of a lever 107 which is mounted in 108 on the housing 63 and is articulated by a bracket 110 to an arm 111 which rotates together with a fork 112 to move the coupling member 96 can be.
A spring 113 constantly tends to rotate the arm 111 clockwise to engage the clutch. If the bolt 104 is released by actuating one of the carriage return buttons 72, the lever 107 can move counterclockwise so that the coupling is engaged under the action of the spring 113. The take-up drum 92 is then driven, takes up the tape 91 and shifts the carriage to the right.
If the lever 107 moves in the direction of the engagement of the clutch, an upright arm 114 of this lever comes to the left and pivoted by means of a tab 115 which has a pin 116 that abuts the right side surface of the counter-stop arm 60, the latter by one small amount to the left within this recess 61 of the cover plate. When the carriage is returned as mentioned, the edge stop 44 finally comes into contact with the counter stop 46 and moves it towards the right-hand end of the recess 61.
Finally, by means of the pin 116 and the tab 115, the lever 107 is returned clockwise into the position in which the clutch is disengaged, for the purpose of controlling the locking mechanism with the bolt 104.
As soon as the clutch is disengaged and the car has lost its vital force, the latter falls back a small amount in the sense of the inter-space switching, which is made easier by a play of the Sebaltrade 26 against the pawl 31.
As the carriage falls back. every downshift and each time allows the counter stop to come into the clutch engagement position, for example to activate the carriage return mechanism, to execute a line circuit or to move the edge stop to the extreme left on the carriage, as will be described later . It can be seen from the above that the edge stop is brought very close to the counter stop 46 by simply actuating a carriage return button 72.
This can be referred to as the first step in the process of adjusting the stop 44.
The second step in this process comprises releasing the stop 44 which was brought up to the counter stop 46 in the first step. It also includes the temporary coupling of the released stop in a fixed position to the counter stop 46. In other words, control of the edge stop to be set is transferred to a hold by the frame for the purpose of setting this edge stop by subsequent movement of the carriage, which Movement represents the third step in setting the stop.
The aforementioned transfer of control over one of the edge stops 44 or 45 is caused by a ge from the housing carried release member 122, which can move downward and has a shelf 123 that can lower itself on the edge stop blocking slide 52 and this in the from Fig. 6 can press down the apparent position in which the nose 54 is released from the rack 47.
As FIG. 7 shows, a stop release key 124 is provided in the keyboard 39, which acts on the release member 122 by means to be described below. As will be seen, the actuation of the button 124 only really has an effect on the release member 122 when one of the Randan hits 44 and 45 has come up to the counter-stop 46. Said key 124 can thus be pressed down prematurely, but the release member 122 is not actuated until one of the edge stops has already hit the counter stop 46 or is just touching it. As can be seen from FIG. 1, the button 124 comprises the front end of a lever 125 which is mounted on a wire 126 and has an upwardly projecting arm 127.
A pull rod 128 extends rearward from the arm 127 to a toggle lever 130, which can be clearly seen in FIG. This toggle lever 130 is mounted in 131 on an upright ear 132 of a stationary support part 133. A rearwardly projecting arm 134 of the toggle lever 130 runs under an arm of a lever 135 which extends to the left and which is rotatably mounted in 136 on an upright arm of the support part 133. This supporting part is fixed in place by means of screws on the cross bar 66 of the machine frame. The left end of the lever 135 is located above a pin 139 of a link 138 which can move in the vertical direction thanks to a slot. 140 with which the head pin 65 cooperates.
At its upper end the element 138 has a slot 141 through which the rod 75 extends. The member 138 is pulled upward by a spring 142, the lower end of the slot wall together with the rod determining the normal position of the element 138. The rod 75 carries a holding member, not shown, for the element 138 on each side thereof.
The release member comprises a two-part construction with an upper part 143 which is adjustably connected to a lower part 144 by means of screws 145: the lower part 144 has a vertical slot 1.46 into which a head pin 1.47 protrudes on an ear 150 of the element 138 is attached. A spring 151 is hooked at one end to the left end of the pin 147 and at the other end to a portion of the release member 122 which resiliently connects them together for a purpose which will be described.
The upper part of the release member 122 extends through a rectangular hole which is provided in a slide 152 which is mounted on the underside of the cover plate 62 so that it can move forwards to a limited extent relative thereto.
In order to guide this carriage 152, offset pins 153 and 154 protrude upwards through slots 155 of the carriage, which pins are attached to the underside of the plate 62. A spring 156 hooked into one ear of the slide 152 pulls the slide backwards into its position shown in FIGS. 1 and 5, in which the pin 154 touches the front end of the wall of the slot 155. In this position of the slide 152, the release member 122 is blocked from moving downwards by a nose 157 on the cover plate 62, which nose passes under a shoulder formed by the upper wall of a hole 160 of the member 122.
The nose 157 and the shoulder form a primary blocking means for the element 122, which blocking means is only ineffective when one or the other of the edge stops 44, 45 almost or completely touches the counter stop 46. This primary blocking means is automatically put out of action when one or the other of the edge stops 44, 45 approaches the counter stop 46.
In detail, the edge stop 44 carries on its front side a cam 161 which, when the edge stop approaches the counter-stop 46, moves the element 122 around the pin 147 forward by acting on a cam counterpart 162 which is on the rear side of the release member is provided. The element 122 has a further cam counterpart 163 which cooperates with a cam 164 on the edge stop 45 for the same purpose. It can be seen from this that the primary blocking means, which is formed by the nose 157 and the associated shoulder, becomes ineffective when one or the other of the edge stops 44, 45 approaches the end of the carriage path set by this stop.
The side pressures acting on the element 122 are absorbed by upright parts 169 which protrude from the plate 62.
A secondary or additional blocking agent prevents a downward actuation of the element 122 when one or the other of the edge stops is in the vicinity of the counter stop 46, but has been automatically disabled because one of these stops reaches the counter stop 46 for the purpose of setting the edge. Such secondary blocking means consist on each of the stops 44, 45 from a member 165 which can slide downwardly in a groove 166 of the stop body. A plate 167, which rests on the front of the stop body, holds this sliding member. The plates 167 have ears 168 which abut the opposite sides of the stop bodies to which they are fastened by means of screws.
The sliding members 165 each have a rearwardly projecting tongue 172 which lies over a compression spring 173 which is inserted in a countersunk hole in the stop body. Under the action of this spring 172, each slide member 165 normally assumes an upper position in which a stop shoulder 174 abuts against a surface 175 on the lower side of the stop.
If one of the edge stops 44, 45 approaches the counter stop 46, the upper end of the sliding member 165, which belongs to this stop, moves very close under the free hand shelf 123, while the lower end passes very close to the housing cover plate 62, with the clear width between the normal position of the shelf 123 and the cover plate 62 is a little greater than the length of the sliding member 165.
When the movement of the counter-stop 46 to the left by the line end stop 45 is completed, the lower end of the sliding member 165 of this stop comes to rest via an incision 176 in the plate 62 and the sliding member can then be pressed down by the stop-releasing member 122.
Come. If the edge stop 44 is in its position limiting the -V # @ days return, the sliding member 165 of this stop 44 comes to rest over an incision 177 in the plate 62 in a similar way so that it can be pressed down by the member 122. Since said release member 122 is pushed forward each time just before one or the other of the edge stops 44, 45 comes into its operative position, each of these stops in this operative position in contact with the counter stop is able to be released by the element 122 .
As soon as the edge stop to be set 44 or 45 has been brought into its effective position on the counter stop 46, the operator presses the release button 124 down, which causes the shelf 123 to be lowered onto the sliding member 165 and onto the locking slide 52 serving as a bolt, with the former enters the associated incision 176 or 177, while the Blockierschlit th 52 releases the edge stop from the rack 47.
It should be mentioned that moving the sliding member 165 into the associated incision 176 or 177 causes the edge stop to be held against the machine frame and the counter stop and that the blocking slide, since it is a little shorter at its upper end, the edge stop only leaves after the sliding member 165 has entered the incision 176 or 177. In other words, it carries over the downward movement of the release member 122 control of the edge stop from the car on the frame reliably and automatically in the exact position relative to the counter stop.
If the button 124 is kept depressed and control of the edge stop has been transferred to the frame, the third step is the setting of the edge stop, which step includes making small successive movements to the left or right on the carriage under power for the purpose of execution the actual setting of the edge stop. These successive movements of the carriage 15 against the fixed edge stop are carried out under the control of two switch keys in the keyboard 39 mentioned.
One of these switch buttons is designated 180 and causes, when it is pressed down, the issuing of repeated successive movements to the carriage to the left, for the purpose of readjusting the edge stop on the carriage to the right, while the second switch button is marked 181 and in the pressed down position State causes repeated successive movement impulses to be issued to the carriage to the right, for the purpose of readjusting the edge stop on the carriage to the left.
The mechanism which responds to said key 180 for the purpose of gradual adjustment of an edge stop to the right will now be described. The key 180 belongs to a key lever 182 which is pivotably mounted on a wire 183 and is pressed upward by a spring 184 into the normal position shown in FIG. The engagement of the drive member 186 ge happens on the command of the button 180, by means of an inclined surface 178 of a protruding part 185 of the lever 182, which inclined surface moves the actuator 186 by acting on an ear 179 of the same downward. Said actuator has a snap pawl 187 which can rotate on it to a limited extent. It is normally out of engagement with the drive member 38.
A hanging arm 188, which is pivotably mounted on an axis 190, carries the front end of the actuating member so that it can move forward. A tab 791 connects the rear end of the actuating member 186 to an upright arm 192 of a pivotable unit, to which an arm 193 also belongs, which rests on a roller 1.94 which is carried by the swing frame 33.
Said unit also comprises a connecting rotary shaft 195 for the arms, which shaft is mounted on the frame of the machine and also carries a protruding arm 196 to which a spring 197 is attached, which the whole unit 192, 193, 195 into the The normal position of FIG. 1 seeks to trace back the position in which the oscillating switch frame 33 is under the influence of a spring 203 in the vehicle stop position.
A return spring 198 for the actuating member 186 pulls the same upwards against a stationary rod 200 and backwards in order to make the hanging arm 188 stop in 201. If the stop release button 180 is pressed, the actuating member 186 is moved forward, thanks to the drive connection that is established between the snap pawl 187 and the drive member 38, and the drive movement is transmitted to the arm 193, which actuates the rocker switch frame 33 by action on the roller 194. Accordingly, the rocker switch frame 33 pivots the pawl 34 and brings it into engagement with the ratchet wheel 26, while the pawl 31 is detached.
Thereafter, the actuator 186 is automatically detached from the drive member 38 by the engagement of one of the teeth of the latter with an ear 202. As a result of the return of the actuator, the swing frame moves back into the normal position under the action of the spring 203. Is the button at this moment 180 still pressed down, it follows again a cooperation of the loading actuating member 186 with the drive member 38, since the ear 179 moves downwards and backwards along the inclined surface 178 of the right member 185 on. There is therefore another actuation of the Schaltvorrich device and further actuations follow until the button 180 has been released and thus the inclined surface 178 is outside the trajectory of the returning actuating ear 179.
The setting of the edge stop to the right on the carriage in any position can therefore be done under the control of the button 1.80, in quick successive steps by a very simple and practically a small force devouring actuation of the button 180. To the spring 198 at To help return the actuator 186, a lever 204 is provided which normally acts on the hanging arm 188 under the load of a spring 205. This lever 204 v, thanks to the living force achieved, the lever 188 when the actuator 186 is disengaged. It follows from this that the first part of the return travel of the actuating member 186 takes place solely under the driving force of the spring 198.
Just at the moment when the ear 179 approaches the inclined surface 178 on its return, the lever 204 unites with the returning hanging arm 188 and exerts a force on the latter in order to ensure that the ear 179 is actuated downwards by the inclined surface 178.
The machine comprises a conventional space button 210 in elongated shape, which by linkages, not shown and including a buttonless lever on the left side of the lever 182, is able to depress a hook member 211 on said ear 179 to engage the actuator to effect transmission member 186. Such actuation of the hook member 211 amounts to a single actuation of the member 186, even if the button 210 is pressed down. This is because the ear 179 of the returning actuator 186 contacts the hook member above the hook shoulder.
The upright member 185 is adjustably mounted on the lever 182 to bring the inclined surface 178 with the ear 179 in a suitable manner. For this purpose, said upright member 185 is vertically displaceable on the key lever 182 thanks to a pin and seatbeat guide 212, and a strong spring 213, which is suspended between the member 185 and the key lever 182, holds that Member with an adjustable eccentric 214 of the key lever in contact. When working, the link 185 is completely in operative connection with your lever 182.
The afore-mentioned key 181 and a permanently controlled 1% mechanism for executing an adjustment of one of the right-hand touch controls to the left in stages by distributing longitudinal movement pulses to the carriage is shown in FIGS. The button 181 forms part of a lever 221 which is rotatably mounted in 222 and is pulled by a spring 223 into the normal position shown in FIG.
A cam disk 224, which is loosely rotatably arranged on a stepped file 225 of the drive member 38 in the area of the left end plate of the machine, carries a coupling pawl 227 mounted on it in 226. This pawl stands. under the action of a spring 230 which seeks to bring it into engagement with a toothed wheel 228 which is stuck on the recessed part 225. A pawl 231 pivoted in 232 is normally engaged with a shoulder of pawl 227 to keep the latter away from wheel 228. Said pawl 231 is controlled by the button lever 221 by means of a pin and fork connection 233.
The cam disk 224 has a yoke structure to operate, which includes an arm 234 near the left end plate of the machine, an arm 235 approximately in the middle of the machine and a rotary shaft 236 which rigidly connects the two arms. A roller 239 on the arm 234 contacts the cam 224 and a pawl 237, which is connected to the arm 235, is located with the front end normally outside the range of the shift shaft, thanks to an inclined surface of the pawl, which is connected to a stationary guide pin 240 ( Fig. 10) is in contact.
At its right end, the shaft 236 is mounted in an elevation 241 of the frame, while the left-hand end normally rotates in the lower end of a slot 242, thanks to a strong spring 243 which is anchored on the frame and hooked on the shaft 236. Whenever the pawl 237 is prevented from rotating the ratchet wheel 26 (because the carriage has reached its end position), the left end of the shaft in the slot 242 is idle upward. The roller 239 rests on the cam 224 under the influence of a spring 244 which is hung on the arm 234. A valley 245 in the cam disk, in conjunction with the roller 239, prevents the cam disk from moving backwards after the coupling pawl 227 falls off.
It follows from this that an actuation of the button 181 causes the pawl 231 to be released from the pawl 227, the latter therefore coming into engagement with the ratchet wheel 228 under the influence of the spring 230. Since the ratchet wheel 228 rotates constantly in the direction of the arrow, the cam disk 224 then rotates with the drive member 38 as long as the key. 181 depressed remains tuid completed an initiated rotation even after the pawl has been released, until the pawl 231 grips the coupling pawl 227 and releases it from the teeth of the ratchet wheel 228.
The cam disk 224, which is to be rotated with the drive member under the control of the button 181, causes successive oscillations of the unit 234, 235, 236 and consequently reciprocating movements of the pawl 237, which thus turns the ratchet wheel 26 step by step in order to gradually move the carriage to the right move. If such a gradual shift takes place after an edge stop is released and has been brought into a fixed relationship with respect to the frame, it follows a gradual shift of the edge stop on the carriage to the left.
It is customary to provide means which automatically suppress further writing processes and intermediate space-giving processes when the end position of the carriage is reached. It is only mentioned briefly here that a toothed rail 248 on a cross bar 250 in 251. is slidably guided and can perform a small shift to the right from the position shown in FIG.
Normally, the rear ends of the door lever actuation levers137 lie over incisions between the teeth 252 of the cross rail 2.48 and said actuating elements can then be freely coupled to the drive element 38 for their drive: but if the counter stop 46 has been moved to the left by the line end stop 45, then the teeth 25 come to lie under the actuators 37, preventing the latter from being with. the drive member 38 to engage and to be moved.
The toothed rail 248 is shifted to the right when the counter-stop arm 60 has been shifted to the left by the edge stop 45 and has moved an arm 254 which is rotatably mounted on a pin 255 attached to the machine frame and connected to a lever 257 by a spring 256 which is also mounted on the pin 255 and connected to the rail 248 by a pin and fork connection 253. A rearwardly extending arm 258 of the lever 257 causes, as soon as the counterstop is free, in a reliable manner the return of the rail 248 to its normal right-hand position, namely under the influence of the spring 68.
Any leftward movement of the counter stop 46 prevents the gap actuator 186 from being coupled to the drive member 38 by the button 210. Nevertheless, the gap actuator 186 can be brought into engagement with the drive member in a suitable manner, under the control of the repeat switch pawl 180. In order to do this, a lever 261 is rotatably mounted on the toothed rail 248 in 260, which is a upright ear 262.
A spring 263 normally presses the lever 261 against a stop pin 259 on the rail and in this position of the lever the ear 262 is a little to the left of the tab 191 which extends rearward from the actuator 186. Now if the edge stop 45 moves the counter-stop 46, the lever 261 moves to the right with the carriage and the ear 262 comes to a position below the tab 191 to block it against downward movement, which is not agile for coupling the actuator member 186 with the drive member 38. Intermediate space-giving movements of the carriage under the control of the regular intermediate room key 210 are then prevented as long as the counter-stop 46 remains shifted to the left.
To carry out a setting of an edge stop, it is necessary to move the carriage step by step while the edge stop 45 is in its linienendebegren zenden position, and accordingly the switch button 180 is in the depressed state effective in the sense that it first removes the blocking tube from his Position under half of the tab 191 removed. For this purpose, an arm 264 is provided on the button lever 182, which extends upwards to behind an arm 265 of the lever 261 in order to pivot the latter in a clockwise direction and in this way to remove the ear 262 from its stel development behind the tab 191.
The arrangement is such that the one conductive movement of the key lever 182 first removes the blocking that was brought about by the ear 262, and that with a further movement of said key lever, the inclined surface 178 acts on the actuating ear 179, around the actuating member 186 to bring the drive member into engagement.
It should be emphasized that, even if the pawl 180 can be pressed down to carry out an edge stop setting, the type lever actuators 37 remain blocked by the teeth 252 in their inoperative position until the edge stop is set by the carriage to the right after the edge stop setting has been completed is moved away from the counter-stop 46, e.g. B. by actuating one of the carriage return switch buttons 72.
In order to be able to move the carriage beyond one or the other of the end positions that are determined by the edge stops 44 and 45, the 1Zasc.hine includes a conventional edge release button 266 on a lever 267, see FIGS. 5 and 7. The lever 267 can move a transverse lever 268, the left end of which can be seen in FIG. and serves to lower the cregen stop arm 60 and thereby to move the counter stop 46, which acts as the end of the line, down under the edge stops, the blocking rail 248 coming into effect each time.
The operations to be carried out to adjust one or the other of the edge stops 44 and 45 will now be briefly described in connection with the manual controls mentioned above.
If the left-hand edge stop 44 is set, the operator presses a carriage return key 72, which then brings the edge stop with the carriage against the counter-stop 46. This is the first step in setting up, and it can be skipped if the operator knows that the appropriate edge stop has already approached the counter stop. If the operator is in doubt about this, he or she presses the downshift key 72 to be sure that afterwards the edge stop has come up to the counter stop.
The second step in setting is the depression of the stop release button 124, which has the effect that the element 122 is moved downwards, releasing the stop 44 from the carriage and at the same time holding it in place against the frame, i.e. also against the counter stop 46.
The third step in setting consists in depressing the appropriate switch button 180 or 181 to cause successive, step-wise movements of the carriage under power, whereby the stop 44 is adjusted to the right or left on the carriage, as desired, and where the release button is still depressed.
The desired position of the Randanschla ges 44 on the carriage is obtained by releasing the depressed switch button in good time. The release of the button 180 or 181 combined with a release of the stop release button 124 can be seen as the fourth and last step of setting the edge stop. It causes the edge abutment 44 to be locked in a suitable manner with the carriage rack 47 by returning the blocking slide 52, and that it is released from the frame by returning the sliding member 165.
The setting of the right-hand edge stop 45 is done in a similar way, but to bring this stop to the counter stop, the tab key 71 is pressed down instead of the downshift key. The tab key does not need to be pressed down when the edge stop 45 is already on the counter stop 46 for the purpose of line end delimitation. As in the case of setting the edge stop 44, the stop release button 124 is then actuated to transfer the control via the stop 45 from the carriage to the frame.
Then follows as the third step in the setting, pressing the appropriate switch button 180 or 181 over a certain period of time, until the released edge stop 45 relative to the car has been brought into the correct position to the left or right Movement of the car under power. Finally, the depressed key 180 or 181, as well as the key 124, is released so that the set stop 45 is locked again on the carriage and released from the frame.
With regard to the speed at which the carriage moves step by step under the control of the keys 180, 181, the bringing up of one or the other of the edge stops against the counter-stop 46 may advantageously be combined with the movement of the carriage which is necessary for setting the outward Edge stop. For this purpose, the edge stop release button 124 and the appropriate switch button 180 or 181 can be operated together.
The edge stop, which is originally still .mit the car in this case, will then move together with the car in a position against the counter stop, and the release member 1.22 will then automatically move down for the purpose of transferring control of the edge stop in question from Car on the frame, and it takes place in a fluid manner, the sliding of the edge stop in the ge desired position, with the operator the switch button. releases at the appropriate moment and simultaneously or subsequently also releases the button 124.
It should be noted that see the operations for remote control of the means for adjusting one or the other of the edge stops 44; 45 to the actuation of the above-mentioned keys in the keyboard 39, which are extremely easy to influence. It should also be pointed out that the setting includes the same steps, whether one or the other of the two edge stops is to be set, with the exception that the appropriate key 71 or 72 must be actuated to activate the desired edge stop 44 or 45 first to approach the counter stop.
The operator's fingers never have to move away from the keyboard 39 and the setting is quick and requires very little effort on the part of the operator.
If an edge stop can only be moved by a single space, it is sufficient to simply press the appropriate key 180 or 181 down once or twice. If the edge stop has to be shifted by a larger amount, you can hold down key 180 or 181 until you get closer to the point where the edge stop should come, and the exact location of the setting can then be obtained by pushing in or out press key 180 or 181 down twice.
In most cases, an edge stop adjustment is best carried out in such a way that the stop release key 124 is depressed after actuating the tab key 71 or after actuating the carriage return key 72. After all, one can advantageously set the left-hand edge stop 44 inwardly into a position that is set or predetermined by a set Tabula gate stop 77. A carriage return button 72 is then first depressed to bring the edge stop into contact with the counter stop.
Then follows the depression of the stop release button 124 and later the Tabula gate button 71, whereupon the setting of the stop 44 is fast going by traversing the Tabulierweges through the car, after which the two buttons 71 and 124 are finally released, tum the setting to fix.
The left-hand edge stop 44 can be brought to the extreme left starting position at a rapid pace from any position just next to it, simply by pressing down the stop release button 124 and the carriage return button 72.
If these keys 72 and 124 are pressed down together or at least almost together, the edge stop will first move together with the carriage against the counter stop, then the stop release element 122 will automatically fall down under the influence of the key-loaded spring 151, and it follows the transfer of control over the edge stop 44 from the car to the frame while the counter-stop 46 remains at the right-hand end of the recess 61, with the hitch remains engaged.
In the meantime, the carriage return continues until it is completed by pushing the stop 273 on the left-hand end of the carriage 19, which causes contact and displacement of the counter-stop 46 to the right. If the depressed keys are released afterwards, the edge stop 44 will be locked in the outermost line starting position.
It can be seen from what has been said in the above two sections that the edge stop 94 can be quickly adjusted under keyboard control in interrupted runs from one to another of two predetermined edge-defining positions.
Damage to the ilIechanism due to improper operation. practically excluded. Should z. B. the operator unintentionally press the carriage return button 72, after you transfer the control over the edge stop 45 on the frame by pressing the button 124, the interruption of the power-driven Wagen- i-ück] aufes still takes place automatically. As a result of the carriage return accomplished in the manner described takes place.
When approaching the edge stop 44 on the stop release element 122 the knocking of the screw 171 stretching to the right on the stop 44 against the screw 171, which protrudes from the stop 45, so that this last-mentioned stop is inevitably moved to the right .3 by the drive of the carriage ini return:
As a result, the sliding member 165, which belongs to the stop 45, comes up, since this sliding member has an inclined surface 270 which causes it to slide out of the inclined side of the cutout 176. During its upward slide, the sliding member 165 lifts the stop release element 122 by touching its shelf 123. An opening is thus released through which the stop 44 with its parts 52, 165 can pass between the said shelf 123 and the housing cover plate 62. As soon as the sliding piece 165 moves on the edge stop 44 over the incision 177, it falls into this so that the edge stop is released from the carriage.
The return continues until a projecting stop 273 on the left-hand end of the carriage (FIG. 1) moves the counter-stop 46 to the right for the purpose of interruption. In this way, the unintentionally initiated return flow is closed automatically without any part being damaged. The sliding member 165 of the Randan strike 44 has a short bevel 271 so that it cannot get caught on the shelf 123 when it moves to the right. After completing the aforementioned, unintentionally initiated return of the car, the desired Randanschlagein setting can still be carried out in the correct way.
Similarly, entanglement is prevented if the operator inadvertently depresses the tab key 71 after first initiating the transfer of control over the stop 44 from the carriage to the frame by pressing the key 124 down. Without the peculiarity expressed below, the introduction of a tabulation would, as mentioned, in the absence of a. Tab stop 77 in cooperation with the comb 76 run out into a tab run of the carriage, which would suddenly be stopped by the right-hand edge stop 45 because of the impact on the left-hand edge stop 44; the comb would remain in its imagined position.
In addition, no return of the comb 76 could be brought about by any carriage movement and the peel release arm 82, which would be actuated by depressing a tab key, would remain actuated, making further functioning of the machine impossible.
In order to avoid this, the edge stop 45 adjusts the edge stop 44 to the left of the counter-stop at a tabulation made under the above-mentioned condition when approaching the element 122 by clashing the aforementioned screws 171. As a result, the sliding member 165 is lifted on the edge stop 44, since this sliding member has an inclined surface 270, equal to that of the edge stop 45, for sliding out of a beveled side of the incision 177. There is thus a game when lifting the shelf 123, the ge the edge stop 45 equips to move to the left while moving the counter-stop 46 to the left.
The pin 87 on the counter-stop arm 60 (Fig.l) gives the upper end of the tabu latorkammes 76 a left-hand movement for the purpose of releasing its shoulder 85 from the shelf 86 and ultimately for the purpose of returning the comb 76 and subsequent onset of the switching control. The edge stop 45 is released by the downward movement of the release element 122 under the influence of the spring 151. Is the action of the spring 151.
At the beginning strong enough to let the sliding member 165 of the edge stop 45 settle down on the incision 176, contrary to the action of the springs 68 and 83 to the right, - the stop on the counter or on the tabulator comb. Act; so the counter stop will get the said left movement; = immediately after the stop @ ihir has been reached.
At least the spring 1.51 "can be made weaker, so that it cannot push the sliding member 165 all the way into the incision, but still strong enough to loosen the sliding member of the edge stop 45; in this case a displacement of the Counter stop .to the left only after the rack carrying the edge stops has moved through the edge stop 45 to the limit that is formed by the carriage end 15 on the right.
In any case, the tab comb 76 is withdrawn as a result of the tabulation and can therefore not cause any damage if a carriage return is then initiated. Furthermore, the operator can still carry out the desired setting of the edge stop 44.
As a result, the various power sources that come into effect when setting an edge stop, the machine can not block or damage if improper manipulations are made men.
Although the form of the mechanisms that are here. are shown and described, meet their intended purpose in full mener, of course, the invention is not limited to the details of this embodiment, since various changes could be made before that are within the realm of the invention.
