Device with crossed prisms, usable in a photographic viewfinder. to objective. It is known to use two systems of crossed refractive prisms to obtain, in a photographic field, a telemetric control of the focusing. \ The device used generally extends only over a restricted part of the photographic field.
It is known practice to add such prisms to a frosted glass on which the entire image is observed, the focusing being done by observing the only part of this image seen through the prisms.
The device with crossed prisms, object of the present invention, makes it possible to achieve a telemetry focusing which can be used over the entire extent of the field of the targeted image, or in a viewfinder having its own objective, the movements of which will be used for focusing. to the point or mechanically transmitted to the photographic lens itself, either that the image produced by the shooting lens is itself used in a reflex device.
The proposed device makes it possible to retain the advantage due to a frosted surface throughout the field, while allowing the use of a field lens which presents, over the frosted glass alone, advantages of luminosity.
It is in fact possible to replace the ground glass completely with a field lens, but in modern photographic and cinematographic devices it is required to be able to use objectives of various focal lengths.
In this case, for each focal length used, a corresponding focal field lens would be required. It is possible, with the device of the invention, comprising a very finely ground glass, to keep a field lens of medium power for the whole range of objectives usable on the device, the de-polished glass diffusing enough top to allow see the image clearly regardless of the focal length of the lens used.
The present invention achieves these advantages. Its purpose is to provide a. crossed prisms usable in a photogmaphic visor with objective, to ensure simultaneously the focusing by telemetry effect with coincidence of cut images and the framing of the image, characterized by the fact that a frosted surface occupies the major part at least the area of the frame delimiting the image, this surface being arranged in the common bisector plane of two right prismatic deviating systems with bases in the form of isosceles triangles,
equal deflector systems arranged in this same frame and filling it, their deflection angles being oriented in opposite directions, and their adjacent triangular bases being situated in the same plane passing through the optical axis of the viewfinder.
Preferably, the surface frosted in this bisecting plane has a grain fine enough so that only a fraction of the light diffused by this frost forms on said plane a real image, while a remaining part of this same light not. broadcast passes through the entire deflector system as if it were fully transparent.
Said frosted surface can be produced in the form of a semi-frosted plane, merged with the common bisector plane of the two deflector systems by constituting each of these deflector systems by two prisms of identical effects joined by their opposite faces of which the at least one is soft.
Experience shows that the focusing plane determined by the telemetry device coincides with the focusing plane determined by the frosted surface thus placed.
The appended drawing represents, by way of example, an embodiment of the object of the invention.
Fig. 1 represents, in elevation, all of the deflection prisms seen from the rear with an image, not in point, seen on the polished thimble. This image is shown sharp, in reality it is slightly blurry.
Fig. 2 shows a corresponding side elevation. Fig. 3 shows a horizontal section of the device along the line A-A 'of FIG. 1.
Fig. 4 shows, schematically, two of the prismatic elements which, when assembled, form one of the deflector systems.
Fig. 5 is a plan view of a variant in which the prisms located on the same side of the focusing bisector plane are glued to a common glass slide.
In these figures, the same reference signs designate the same parts.
1 is the upper deflector system made up of two prisms 1a and 1b.
2 is the lower deflector system identical to the previous one, composed of the two prisms 2a and 2b.
The deflector systems 1 and 2 are of trapezium-isosceles sections with bases designated respectively by 12 and 14 for the large bases and by 13 and 15 for the small ones.
The deflector systems are superimposed on either side of the horizontal plane II not by the optical axis 0, their faces corresponding to the bases 12 and 15 and 13 and 14 being respectively in the same planes parallel to the axis 0, their bisector planes being coincident in the same plane B perpendicular to this optical axis.
The inclined faces 3 and 7 and 6 and 11 of the prisms intersect in projection on the optical axis at 01 and 02. The faces 4 and 5 and 9 and 8 of the angle prisms
EMI0002.0028
are respectively in contact, two. to two, in the plane B.
Faces 5 and 9, for example, of prisms 1b and 2b, are finely frosted so as to be semi-transparent and, while diffusing enough light so that an image is visible, are transparent enough so that part of the image is visible. light rays pass through these prisms without being diffused and which they then feel their telemetric role playing.
The device shown therefore comprises a frosted surface arranged in the bis-sector plane common to two deflector systems in the form of isosceles prisms, superimposed in a known manner on either side of a dia metral plane of the light field of the lens, this frosted and these prisms extending over the entire photographic field and allowing, for example, with the association of a single field lens, the framing and simultaneous focusing of the image with objectives of different focal lengths.
However, when the range of interchangeable lenses is very wide or when it is not possible, for reasons of size for example, to use an auxiliary field lens powerful enough to give good illumination for the objectives of the camera. shortest focal length, it becomes necessary to provide a frosted glass of grain large enough so that the image is well seen in all cases. Under these conditions, it may be that the grain size does not allow good range focusing or, in any case, convenient range focusing if the light is poor.
In this case, it is interesting to polish a small circle more finely in the middle of the frosted surface. It is easy to perform this smoothing process, for example using a small cover consisting of a metal sheet pierced in the center with a circular hole of the appropriate diameter.
The frosted surface is placed behind this cover to which it can be glued temporarily. The assembly is then presented to a rapidly rotating felt disc coated with polishing paste. The soft surface of the felt disc passes through the hole and polishes the exposed part of the frosted surface. The operation is stopped when the very finely ground circle allowing telemetric focusing is thus obtained.
In the particular case where the focal lengths used remain within a sufficiently narrow range, it will be possible to use the combination of a finely ground bisecting surface and a small central surface which is completely polished.
Without departing from the invention, it is possible (fig. 5) to glue the prisms 1a and 2a to a thin glass slide 21 by means of an adhesive of practically equal refractive index, and the taken my lb and 2b on a thin glass slide 22 also using the same glue. At least one of the blades 21 or 22 will have a frosted surface, possibly, as has been explained above, with a central polished part. In this way, the device will include two juxtaposed blocks, but perfectly separated with respect to the frosted surface. In the figure, for clarity, the blocks have been shown at a certain distance from each other; in practice, the glasses 21 and 22 are juxtaposed.
The possible transparent surface in the center of the frosted surface of the thin blade can be obtained by sticking on the blade in order to bind a glass pellet and by roughening all around with the emery applied by means of a rotating plate drilled in its center. of a hole. In fig. 1, the appearance of an image during focusing has been shown schematically. The trunk of the tree that is being focused, for example, is separated into Ti, T2. When Ti and T2 are connected, the focus will be perfect. We can nevertheless see the whole image thanks to the polished die.
The frost should be fine, almost transparent.
We can not roughen,. as in the example above, only one of the surfaces in contact, or both.
The transparency can be increased - by covering the frosted surface with a very light layer of petroleum jelly and then wiping it carefully, the remaining traces of petroleum jelly are sufficient to greatly improve the transparency.
The angle prisms a / 2 joined together to form the angle deflector systems a can simply be in contact, without the interposition of any glue, for example.
In this case, there is air between the two surfaces in contact, and the frosted grain may be very strong, the transparency being too reduced.
We can therefore increase the transparency, without completely eliminating the polished thimble, by placing between the two faces, in place of the air gap, a material with a refractive index greater than 1, but lower than the thickness. frosted glass index. It is also possible to use a material with a significantly greater index than that of de-polished glass. The most convenient way will be to use this material to glue the facing faces one on the other.
As a less refrigerant material, it is possible, for example, to use gelatin, fish glue in particular, which retains enough water so that its index is not very far from that of glass.
This gelatin can also be added to the products usually used to make it particularly hygrometric.
