Dieses Vorgehen ergibt. recht unreproduzierbare Übertragungswerte infolge verschieden dicker Fettschichten, Luftein schlüssen in diesen u. a. m.
Spongostan ) u. a. m.
Transmitting or receiving device for mechanical waves, in particular ultrasonic waves, coupled to a solid body. In practice, it creates great difficulties in introducing mechanical waves, in particular ultrasonic waves, into a solid body or removing them from it. A reproducible sound or ultrasound transmission is actually only possible with the help of a liquid, which in turn has the disadvantage. brings it about that the body into which the sound waves are radiated or from which the sound waves are to be derived, as well as the transmitting or receiving device itself, must be immersed in the liquid.
It is also known to achieve a sound transition in that the transmitting or receiving device or the body is heavily greased and the devices are pressed against it. This procedure results. quite unreproducible transmission values due to different thicknesses of fat layers, air inclusions in these u. a. m.
The invention allows these difficulties to be eliminated. It relates to a receiving or transmitting device for mechanical waves coupled to a solid body, which is characterized in that it has a plate-shaped oscillating body which is used to radiate or radiate in the waves and which converts electrical waves into mechanical waves or vice versa, and the is held parallel to the opposite surface of the solid body by a spacing ring, the chamber formed there being filled with a coupling substance and means being provided,
in order to introduce this coupling substance into the chamber after the device has been placed on the body.
It has proven to be beneficial to choose the thickness of the coupling chamber, i.e. the thickness of the transferring liquid layer, equal to an odd multiple of the quarter wavelength in the transfer liquid, since there is a movement node on the surface of the solid body, whereas there is a movement abdomen on the plate-shaped oscillating body educate the - and in this way an optimal transfer rate is achieved.
If the coupling substance is sucked into the coupling chamber, it is advisable to direct the suction air through a fine and adjustable nozzle. If the coupling chamber is not close to the body and this leakage is greater than the previously set inside width of the nozzle mentioned, the coupling substance is not sucked into the coupling chamber and the apparatus is automatically blocked. The degree of leakage that is still permitted can be determined from the adjustable. Adjusted beforehand.
Often it is not appropriate to work with a liquid liquid, son countries it can prove to be advantageous to use highly viscous substances such. B. gel-like substances, fats and substances of similar viscosity to choose. These often contain a lot of air or are heavily enriched with air, especially when the sending and receiving devices are often attached to the body or removed from it again.
The device therefore preferably works in such a way that a simultaneous flow process of the coupling substance parallel to the body is connected with each application and removal process of the device, such that, for example, when attaching the highly aerated layer of the coupling substance is pressed or pushed along the plate-shaped oscillating body so that it gets into a harmless space next to the vibrating body and air-free coupling substance is used for transmission. When the coupling chamber is lifted off, the process goes backwards and the coupling substance, which does not contain any moisture, moves forward again.
If mercury is used as a coupling substance, the tests show that mercury is unable to transmit high ultrasound intensities because the adhesion to the plate-shaped oscillating body is not sufficient to transmit the tensile amplitudes. This inconvenience is remedied in that the plate-shaped oscillating body is covered with a thin coating of varnish, e.g.
B. the branded product Cohesan is provided, which causes the mercury to adhere to this plate.
If in some cases it is advisable to work with a slightly liquid coupling substance and nevertheless to avoid the outflow of quantities of liquid as far as possible, the procedure can be that the chamber contains a substance which absorbs the liquid coupling substance and in connection with it the sound is good. directs. As such a substance, all highly absorbent materials come into question, the wave resistance of which should be as similar as possible to that of the surrounding Koppelsub, such as cotton wool, sponge-like gelatin (z. B. the so-called. Spongostan) and. a. m.
In most cases it is advisable to keep the thickness of the coupling chamber as small as possible, if only for the reason that, even at higher frequencies, the lowest possible odd multiple of the quarter wavelength in the coupling substance is achieved.
However, since the plate-shaped oscillating body, in particular the piezoelectric quartz, requires a front-side electrode and holder which cannot be made as thin as desired, it is proposed to build the plate-shaped oscillating body so that it has a beveled edge so that it can be used as a facet in its aging process and can be approached to the body in practically any way.
The aforementioned limpness can also be eliminated by not using as a plate-shaped oscillating body. the piezoelectric quartz itself serves, but da.ss the oscillating body consists of a metal plate and a quartz plate cemented onto it. The thickness of the metal plate is at least approximately equal to an integral multiple of half the wavelength of the vibrations in the metal in question.
In addition to the above-mentioned advantage, this construction offers the advantage of good heat dissipation, a robust connection of the plattenförmi gene oscillating body with its holder and the advantage that the relatively sensitive quartz plate is protected from external damage.
If the plate-shaped oscillating body consists only of the piezoelectric quartz itself, excitation of this quartz plate in the undamped state, i.e. when the coupling chamber is empty, must be avoided if possible, since in this case the quartz would burst due to amplitudes that are too high if the operating voltage is correspondingly high. Means are therefore preferably provided in the device in order to establish the electrical connections necessary for sending or receiving only after the chamber has been filled with coupling substance. These means can be implemented in any way, e.g.
B. in the form of a Schwimmerkontak tes, in the form of an aneroid box, which closes a contact when sucking on the coupling substance and the resulting negative pressure, also, for example, by direct contact when using mercury as a coupling substance u. a. m.
The figures show exemplary embodiments of the invention, namely: Figure 1 a transmitting or receiving device, in particular for thin coupling substances, with piezoelectric quartz, which has a beveled edge, Figure 2 a transmitting or receiving device for viscous coupling substances (fats , Gels, etc.), Figure 2a and 2b are sections of this, Figure 3 shows another transmitting or receiving device for viscous coupling substances. In Figure 1 we can see the plate-shaped oscillating body Q, which in this case is formed by the quartz itself, which has a beveled edge R.
The electrode metallization vapor-deposited on the front also covers the edge R of the quartz and results. in this way electrical contact with the socket. In this way, the smallest possible thickness of the Koppelkam mer K is achieved, which is formed by the quartz plate Q and the body, not shown, on which the device by means of the rubber sealing ring D is applied. The rear power supply to the plate-shaped oscillating body is via the electrode E, which is pressed against the quartz via a metal adapter with the aid of the insulator J.
The coupling chamber K is filled with coupling substance via the pipe socket Sil, while the air can escape via St2. If the coupling substance is sucked in via the pipe socket St2 instead of being pressed in from below, it is advisable to regulate the adjustable nozzle Dü <I> so </I> that, in the event of major leaks in the system of the sealing ring D, the nozzle nozzle on The suction process is throttled in such a way that there is no increase in liquid in the coupling chamber K and in this way the apparatus goes out of operation by itself.
If you want to avoid the outflow of larger amounts of coupling liquid in the event of spontaneous leaks or if you want to convey only as little coupling liquid as possible, the coupling chamber K can be filled with a loosely filled, absorbent material (such as cotton wool, spongy gelatin, e.g. the so-called spongostan ), the wave resistance of which should be as similar as possible to that of the Koppelflüs used. In this case, only the amounts of liquid need to be promoted or, when the chamber is suddenly lifted, only the amounts of liquid that exceed the absorbency of the said material can run out.
. Figure 2 shows an embodiment of the transmitting or receiving device for coupling substances of higher viscosity (fats, gel-like substances, etc.). These <B> '</B> are filled through the opening Ö in the room R ?, a. If you put the entire device on the body and press on the envelope H, the coupling substance passes via the piston tube KR through the flow tube <I> Str </I> into the semicircular piston valve S (see also Figures 2a and 2b), from here out into the room R1, through the coupling chamber K past the quartz Q into the room R2.
At the same time the semicircular slide piston S pushes forward and promotes this process, whereby see the spring Fd tensioned, which is arranged behind a rubber membrane 1I. If you relieve the pressure on the shell II when the device is removed, the spring Fd drives the piston tube ER back in the guide F, the slide over S steps backwards and pumps or sucks the coupling substance out of the space R2 Flowing through chamber K, back into room R1.
In all subsequent coupling processes, only the coupling substance is pressed by the slide S out of the space R1, flowing through the chamber K, into the space R2. The air inclusions arising when the device is set up and lifted off in the chamber K are conveyed in this way into the un harmful room R2, while the sound is transmitted through air-free coupling substance that was previously in the room R1, while as a result of the retrograde process When the device is lifted from the body, as before, the air-containing coupling substance from .R2 has flown back into the chamber K and is allowed to take in any new air.
The coupling substance located in space B3 only serves as a reserve for all subsequent processes, in that as much coupling substance is automatically replenished from this space by slowly sinking the piston Ko in the envelope H as is lost due to the coupling substance adhering to the body during each coupling process . Here, too, as in Figure 1, the quartz Q is pressed on by an electrode E, which is held centered by a metal ball Kg and an insulator J. The entire inner core is held by two walls W, which at the same time form the lateral space delimitation of the slide S (see also Figure 2a).
The power supply to the ball <I> Kg </I> is also carried out through one of these walls via a cable (Fig. 2a).
Figure 3 shows a similar, but simplified embodiment, in which the sleeve H, sealed by the piston sleeve Ko, slides over the aluminum body AZ, through its bore R, the coupling substance, flowing through the chamber K, reaches the space R2 and there the Piston Eb pushes back, tensioning spring Fd. The core A is in turn held in the same way by the walls W which, in this arrangement, have the purpose of reducing the flow at the dead edge and actually introducing all the coupling substance to the quartz itself.
When the load is released, the spring Fd relaxes against the pin St2. A pin St1, which is arranged on an insulator J, is located inside the spring Fd. The pin <I> St, </I> is electrically connected to the transmitting or receiving apparatus via a feed cable (not shown). When the filling is completed, there is contact between the piston Kb connected to the housing, with the result that the electrical connections necessary for sending or receiving are made, for example by means of relays.
If numerous points are to be checked or scanned using the ultrasonic pulse method or other method, the device described only needs to be pressed into the desired location and removed again in order to achieve rapid and reproducible sound transmission at every location , at the same time after the production of the same, the associated electrical equipment are automatically switched on or off.
The device according to Figure 3 is cheaper to manufacture, but requires a very close attachment of the device to the body, since the filling of the coupling chamber K and the flow process of the coupling substance takes place under excess pressure, in contrast to the device according to Figure? The practically no overpressure arises, since the piston slide S pushes through the space R when it moves forward, but sucks in the same way through the space R2, so that a pure circulation process takes place with practically no pressure increase.
The described devices are also suitable for picking up audible sound as so-called structure-borne sound sensors, as they are used to detect knocking and interference noises to reduce engine noise. Here, too, a safe and reproducible acoustic coupling is desirable, even on raw, cast machine parts. In this case, an appropriate microphone would take the place of the quartz or the centrally mounted arrangement A.
