Mécanisme <I>de</I> comnianf <I>le.</I>
Les ressorts 474 servent également à mainte nir les vis-butées 469a et 470a en contact avec le levier 475. La vis-butée 469a est réglée de manière à actionner l'interrupteur 469 à l'en contre de l'action exercée par son ressort de rappel pour fermer cet interrupteur dès que la tige 453 du piston quitte sa position eor- respondant à l'avance à vitesse normale et pour l'ouvrir dès que cette position est atteinte;
ainsi qu'on l'a décrit. Le déplacement. du piston 452 actionne d'abord l'interrupteur 469, ce qui ferme les contacts y'-y2 et, au fur et à me sure que le piston 452 approche de la posi tion médiane neutre, l'interrupteur 470 est actionné à son tour et ouvre les contacts x'-x3 et ferme les contacts x'-x2;
Lorsque l'interrupteur 469 a été actionné de manière à fermer les contacts y'-y2, le relais de commande 481 a été excité par l'in termédiaire des contacts h'-h2 de l'interrup teur d'avance H, le dispositif d'asservisse ment et de maintien 481-1 de ce relais 481 a été fermé, ainsi que ses dispositifs d'asser- vissement 481-2, 481-3, ce dernier ayant excité le relais 483 par l'intermédiaire des contacts fermés g'-g2 de l'interrupteur d'ar rêt de l'avance G;
étant donné que les con tacts x'-x3 sont fermés par la position de l'interrupteur 470 et que le dispositif de ver rouillage 484-2 est, maintenant fermé, ce qui permet d'appliquer de l'air comprimé dans le cylindre 451 pour actionner le piston 452;
Juste au moment où le piston atteint sa position intermédiaire ou neutre, l'interrupteur 470 est mis en action et ouvre ses contacts x'-x2 et ferme ses contacts x'-x3, mais, étant donné que le relais 482 continue d'être excité par l'intermédiaire de son contact de maintien 482-1 et du dispositif 481-2 (ce dernier étant toujours fermé), le solénoïde de la soupape à air F' n'est pas excité et ne peut l'être à nouveau tant que le piston 452 n'a pas atteint la position d'avance à vitesse normale;
Lorsqu'on désire arrêter la rotation de la broche 21, cela peut. être effectué par une griffe 122 opportunément placée sur le tam bour 121 ou en agissant manuellement sur le levier i qui actionnent tous deux l'interrup teur I d'arrêt de la broche dont les contacts i'-i2 s'ouvrent, en ouvrant ainsi le circuit aboutissant au relais de commande principal 479 et au relais 477 qui commande le moteur AI, ces relais ouvrant à leur tour les contacts 479-1 et 477-1, respectivement, et coupant ainsi le moteur du dispositif de refroidisse ment, d'une part, et celui qui commande la broche, d'autre part;

The machine tool shown consists of an automatically controlled revolver lathe. This machine comprises a bench 24 at one end of which is a headstock 20 provided with a horizontal spindle 21 mounted on bearings inside the headstock which contains the motor and variable transmission units of the machine. At the front end of the spindle is mounted, in a rigid manner and above the bed 14, a chuck 22, in which a workpiece can be clamped in the usual way (not shown).
A turret carriage 23 is mounted on the bed 24, so as to be able to be driven by a longitudinal reciprocating sliding movement with respect to the bed and parallel to the axis of the spindle 21 and so as to approach and move away from the mandrel 22 mounted on the spindle 21; furthermore, front and rear transverse carriages 25 and 26, respectively, are mounted on the bench 24 and disposed between the mandrel 22 and the carriage 23, these transverse carriages can be actuated individually or simultaneously, so as to be animated. reciprocating movement in a direction substantially perpendicular to the movement. of the cart.
small turret 23 and so as to move radially with respect to a workpiece which could be hand held in the chuck 22.
If reference is made in particular to FIGS. 1, 2, 3 and 4, it can be seen that the headstock comprises an outer casing to house the motors, part of the transmission mechanism to drive the spindle and the carriages including its clutch mechanisms, the electro-pneumatic mechanism intended for. actuate these clutch mechanisms, the electric control mechanism, and to also constitute bearings 27 and 28 for the spindle 21, as well as a bearing 29 for the feed shaft 30.
The upper part of the base 24 constitutes a member 24a in the form of a table on which are mounted the turret carriage 23 and the transverse carriages 25 and 26, the mechanism which controls said carriages and which comprises the single disc-cam 135, l shaft 154 and the worm wheel 151 driven by the. worm 1-18 integral with the feed shaft 30. The spindle 21 is driven by a motor hl at constant speed connected to the spindle by means of a chain 33 passing around a chain pinion 27 wedged on the motor shaft and a chain pinion 35 integral with the shaft 36.
<I> Doll. </I> If we refer in particular to fig. 4, it can be seen that two axially aligned shafts 36 and 37 have been fitted in suitable bearings housed in the doll frame 20, the shaft 36 being, what may be referred to as the drive shaft speeds, and the shaft 37 being the receiving shaft of the speeds. A shaft 38 parallel to the shafts 36 and 37 is also mounted in the tailstock 20 and is in mechanical connection with these shafts 36 and 37; this shaft 38 carries clutch mechanisms comprising two opposite double clutches.
These clutches include. the clutch heads 39, 40, 41 and 42 mounted so as to be able to rotate on the shaft 38; each double clutch is provided with a single friction member or cone (for example, clutch heads 39 and 40 are associated with cone 43, while clutch heads 41 and 42 are associated with cone 44) . Thus, when the cones 43 and 44 are engaged with one or the other of the corresponding clutch heads, the other clutch head of each clutch is released. The clutches can be of any suitable type, although the attached drawing shows double disc clutches.
The friction members or cones 43 and 44 are. keys sliding on the shaft 38 and are moved by suitable forks, as can be seen more particularly in FIG. 4. Each of the clutch heads 39, 40, 41 and 42 is respectively secured to gears 45, 46, 47 and 48, of different dimensions, in order to effect the desired automatic gear changes. The gears 45 and 46 of the clutch heads 39 and 40 mesh, respectively, with their associated pinions 49 and 50 mounted on the shaft 36; the gears 47 and 48 of the heads 41 and 42 mesh with the pinions 51 and 52 mounted on the shaft 37.
Thanks to this position, to obtain the four automatic speed changes, the operation of said clutches is as follows 1 To obtain the smallest spindle angular speed, the cone 43 cooperates with the clutch head 40 and the cone 44 with the clutch head 42. When the members are in this relative position, the drive starting from the gear 35 is effected by means of the shaft 36, the pinions 50 and 46, up to 'shaft 38 which rotates pinion 48 with gear 52 integral with receiving shaft 37.
2 To obtain the second angular speed of the spindle, the cone 43 remains integral with the clutch head 40, but the cone 44 moves away from the head 42 to cooperate with the clutch head 41, the drive is Producing in this case from the motor shaft 36 passing through the pinions 50, 46, the shaft 38, the pinion 47, the pinion 51 and. the receiver shaft 37.
3 To obtain the third speed of rotation of the spindle, the cone 43 cooperates with the clutch head 39 (so as to release the head 40), and the cone 44 cooperates with the clutch head 42, if it is not already engaged with it, so that the drive takes place from the motor shaft 36 through the pinions 49, 45, the shaft 38, the gears 48 and 52 to finally end to the drive shaft 37.
4 To obtain the fourth and greatest angular speed of the spindle, the cone 43 is secured to the head 39, if it is not already in this position, and the cone 44 is moved towards the head 41, in the same way that the drive takes place from the motor shaft 36 through the pinions 49 and 45, the secondary shaft 38, the gears 47, 51 to end at the receiver shaft 37.
From the foregoing, it will be noted that, during these four automatic gear changes, a clutch head in each of the considered double clutches, as well as their corresponding pinions, are always in mesh, while the other two heads of The clutch with their corresponding gears run idle on the output shaft 38 and that any combination of the two clutches can be performed simultaneously, provided that at the time when a clutch head of a clutch is engaged, the The other clutch head of the same clutch is disengaged, which is a safety feature, as will appear.
during the detailed description of the actuating mechanism of said clutches.
The transmission in the direction of the spindle continues at. from the gearbox shaft 37, via the pinions 53 and 54, which can be removed by hand, up to the shaft 55. These pinions, which can be removed by hand, are respectively integral with the outer ends of the shafts 37 and 55, so as to be accessible, as seen in fig. ?, to be changed quickly by hand through a suitable gate provided in the end wall of the housing 20 of the headstock. These pinions can be provided in sets of several dimensions making it possible to ensure different speed ratios according to the known method.
From shaft 55, the machine can be converted to a slow speed machine, a high speed machine and vice versa. This conversion in no way prevents the gear changes which are effected by means of the hand-replaceable pinions 53 and 54 and by the clutch mechanisms which have just been described. This conversion can be carried out thanks to the provision, on the shaft 55, of multiple splines 56, allowing a double sliding pinion 57 and 57a to slide, to control by the displacement of this double pinion ensured by hand is the 'meshing of pinion 57 at reduced speed with its corresponding pinion 58, or the meshing of pinion 57a, at high speed with its corresponding pinion 59.
The sliding pinion 57-57a can be moved by means of a rod 57b mounted so as to run smoothly in openings forming bearings in the frame 20 of the headstock, this rod being provided with a fork 57c at one end and a toothed rack <B> 57d </B> by graining with a 57th pinion integral with a shaft <B> 57f </B> which crosses the. front wall of the housing 20 of the doll to receive the end of a wrench or socket crank.
It will be observed that the gears 58 and 59 are keyed on a countershaft 60 and that the gear 59 meshes with a toothed wheel 61 keyed on a sleeve 62, in which the rear end of the spindle 21 is engaged via 6: 3 splines which allow longitudinal adjustment. The sleeve 62 is in turn supported at 28 in the tailstock housing 20, along with the shaft 55 and the countershaft 60, by means of suitable ball bearings.
The front end of the spindle 21 or the mandrel side end is supported by a bushing 64 which slides in a bore 27 of the housing 20, so as to be able to move axially and to. thus ensure the longitudinal adjustment of the spindle 21 to bring it closer to or away from the carriage 23 or from a finished face of the turret of this carriage. This readjustment can be effected by a pinion 65 mounted in the tailstock and meshing. with a rack 66 formed on the periphery of the bearing 64, the pinion being, actuated by means of a shaft 67 provided with a square end passing through. through the housing 20 of the tailstock (see fig. 1).
Feed shaft drive. The drive of the feed shaft 30, which operates the turret carriage 3 and the transverse carriages 2: 5 and 26, is directly connected to the spindle 21, so that the feed is constantly on. of the angular speed of the spindle. The advance control pulse comes from the sleeve 62 of the spindle, which has teeth 68 engaging with a toothed wheel 69.
The latter is keyed on a countershaft 70 integral with a spur gear 69a, so as to drive the toothed wheel 71. keyed to one end of a shaft 72 which also comprises a pinion 73 integral with this shaft and intended driving gear 75 through wheel 74. Gear 75 is keyed on a drive shaft 76 which is aligned with a drive shaft <B> 77, </B> from gadfly to turn independently of each other to perform the advance movements of the turret carriage 23 and the transverse carriages 25 and 26.
Different speeds of advance of these carriages can be obtained from shaft 76, by means of hand-replaceable gears, cooperating with three clutch mechanisms. As seen in Figs. 2 and 4, three secondary shafts 78, 79 and 80, separate and independent, are grouped around the aligned shafts, motor 76 and receiver 77, and supported by bearings provided in the housing 20. Each of these three secondary shafts 78, 79 and 80 support a clutch mechanism comprising a clutch head 81, 83 and 85, respectively, mounted so as to be able to turn on these shafts.
Each clutch head is respectively integral with a corresponding gear 82, 84 and 86. Each of these gears has a different size and meshes, respectively, with a gear train integral with a primary clutch mechanism having a head clutch 87 mounted so as to be able to rotate on the receiving shaft 77. The gear train comprises three gear elements 88, 89 and 90 constantly in engagement with the pinions 82, 84 and 86, respectively.
Likewise, each of the aforementioned secondary shafts 78, 79 and 80 is respectively provided with a friction member or cone 91, 92 and 93 sliding on splines formed on these shafts, so as to be able to be engaged or disengaged with respect to to the clutch heads mounted on the secondary shafts.
The slave shaft 7 7 also supports a secondary clutch mechanism having a clutch head 94 mounted so as to be able to turn on this. shaft and carrying a corresponding gear 95. The clutch head 94 is opposed with respect to the clutch head 87, so as to be controlled by the cone or friction member 96 sliding on the shaft 77, so that Either 87 or 94 clutch heads. engaged, while the other is released, or both are. released when the cone 96 is in the neutral position.
The clutch head 94 is used to connect the shaft 77 to the motor 100 to effect the rapid empty movements of the turret carriage 23, of the transverse chariots 25 and 26 and, for this purpose, its associated gear 95 is driven by engine 100.
The secondary shafts 78, 79 and 80 are driven by the motor shaft 76, via the replaceable gears at the. hand (101-102, 103-104 and 105-106 respectively) mounted on the ends of these shafts, so that they can be easily removed by hand. through an appropriate opening provided in the housing 20 and thus to allow different combinations of speed ratio between the motor shaft 76 and these secondary shafts. With the choice of gears shown in the drawing, the first feed or fine pass secondary shaft 78 of the feed mechanism is driven by pinions 101 and 102.
The second feed shaft 79 or intermediate feed shaft is driven by the pinions 103 and 104, and the third secondary roughing shaft 80 is driven by the gears 1.05 and 106, all of these gears being replaceable at, hand in the usual way, as shown above.
The three automatic feed changes at normal speed of the carriages 23, 25 and 26 are obtained as follows: 1 For the fine passes made by the said tool carriages and when all the clutch cones 91, 92 and 93 are disengaged from their respective clutch head, the bed cone is moved to achieve the coupling with the head 81, while the cone 96 is coupled to the clutch head 87, the drive then taking place from the motor shaft 7f> via the hand-replaceable wheels 101, 102, the shaft 78 of the clutch head 81, the wheels 8 ?, 88 and the clutch head 87 to result in the receiving shaft 77.
It will be noted that the clutch cone 96 is coupled with the. head 87 during all feed operations at normal speed of the tool carriers and is not released from this position until the moment. where it is desired to perform rapid movements when the tool trolleys are empty or when the advance mechanism is actuated. hand to make an adjustment or when the machine is stopped.
? For the second advance or intermediate advance of the tool carriers, the cones 91 and 93 being freed from their respective clutch head, the cone 92 is moved to couple it with the head 83, so that the drive. is produced from the drive shaft 76, through the hand-replaceable sprockets 103, 104, shaft 79, clutch head 83, pinions 84, 89 and clutch head 87 for abou shooting at the slave shaft 77.
3 For the third speed of advance, that is to say to perform the roughing passes using the tool carriers and when the clutch cones 78 and. 79 are released from their respective clutch heads, the cone 93 is coupled with the head 85, which ensures the drive from the motor shaft 76 through the toothed wheels 105, 106 which can be replaced by hand , ar bre 80, the, clutch head <B> 8.5, </B> the pinions 56-.90 and the clutch head 8 7 which wedge the slave shaft 77.
As will be seen later, the electro-pneumatic mechanism which actuates the clutch cones 91, 92 and 93 is provided in such a way that when any of these three clutch cones are actuated for coupling it to its clutch head, the other cones which were previously engaged are released, which therefore allows the coupling of only one of these three single clutches at a time, while the other clutch heads and their associated gears spin crazy on their respective shafts.
Thus, the trees become condari <B> 78, </B> 79 and 80 are continuously driven in a rotary movement from the drive shaft 76, via the aforementioned toothed wheels. replaceable by hand.
The rapid movement of the turret carriage 23 and of the transverse carriages 25 and 26 (i.e. their idle movement which takes place from the moment any one of the working tools completed its pass is pulled back away from the part being machined, while the turret executes a fraction of a turn to prepare for the next operation, and is moved forward to steer on. the part the following set of tools) is obtained by means of the motor 100 of the rapid movements, by means of a chain 97 which connects wedged pinions, respectively,
on the motor shaft 100 and on the shaft 98a to drive idle gears 98 and 99 constantly in engagement with each other, the latter meshing with. : its turn with the corresponding wheel 95 of the 9-t clutch head. Engine 100 is running at. constant speed throughout the operation of the machine, and. when the clutch head 94. is automatically coupled.
by the clutch cone 96, so as to release the clutch head 87, a rapid movement is applied to the receiving shaft <B> 77. </B> When the tools of the turret and / yes of the transverse carriages? 5 and 26 are again in the attack position for performing cutting operations on the workpiece, the. head of em- bravage 94 is disengaged, tandh:
that the clutch head 87 is. engaged by the cone 96, which again drives the shaft 7 7 with a forward movement at normal speed. When the machine is running in fast motion, the gear train 88-89-90 spins idle on shaft 77, while shaft 76 also spins idle at the end of shaft 77, as seen. in 76a.
The feed movement at normal speed or at high speed is transmitted from the receiver shaft 77 to the feed shaft 30 (which operates the turret carriage 23 and the transverse carriages 25 and 26) by the intermediate of the gear 107 integral with the shaft 77 and engages with the gear 111 keyed on the feed shaft 30.
The various operations of the machine are controlled automatically by means of a preselector control device, generally indicated by 112, placed on and inside the front part of the headstock key housing 20 (see fig. 1 and 2).
This control device is driven by a bevel pinion 113 integral with the receiver shaft 77 and. which meshes with the. cone wheel 117 keyed on the lyre <B> 1.18 </B> whose opposite end has an integral worm 119 (the shaft 118, which in turn drives a worm wheel 120 attached to one end of a claw drum 121 which is mounted key so as to rotate freely on a support shaft 121a Thus, the transmission of movement between the claw drum 121 and the feed shaft 30 cannot be altered.
On the claw drum 121 (fia. 1, 2 and 5), the peripheral surface of which comprises a series of parallel slots arranged in the circumferential direction, it is possible to fix in an adjustable manner, in these slots, claws or cleats. 122 arranged so as to actuate switches or electrical contacts placed on a housing 123 which mounts the drum. The switches are arranged in a row which extends longitudinally with respect to the periphery of the claw drum and are in number (twelve in the machine shown, these switches or contacts being designated by the letters A to L.
() n has provided eleven circumferential rows of slots 121b in the claw drum for controlling eleven switches out of the twelve provided, namely switches B to I, included. [. switch 4. is fitted with a safety device enabling everything to be switched off. movement. automatic motor controlled by the tool trolleys when their movement is controlled by hand. The switch I automatically or ma nually stops the rotation of the spindle, for example when it is desired to move the parts of the machine jerk by hand, for its adjustment.
The remainder of the switches actuate electro-pneumatic valves to control the movement of said clutch mechanisms to modify the spindle speed, the feed rate of the turret carriage and cross carriages during shift operations. cutting, the rapid and empty sliding movements of the carriages or to stop their movement completely, except for those movements which can be carried out by levers or hand cranks.
The switches B to L are controlled by the claws or tabs 122, by the intermediary of interposed levers b to, 1, respectively, one of these levers being provided for each switch and established to cooperate with each corresponding switch designated by the capital letters which appear on the housing 123. These levers extend transversely or radia.lement with respect to the drum with, claws, and they are mounted to, pivotally on a shaft 12-1 mounted in turn in consoles 125.
The rear ends 126F of the levers (Fig. 2) extend beyond the shaft 12-1 to engage the rear of the switch strips 123a, which serve as a stop; the anterior part of the levers are heavier and extend at least to an elongated opening 127 (fig. 1.) in the front wall of the headstock 20, where they can be manipulated and lifted from their normal position for the lift. 'actuation of any of the switches b to 1.
For convenience, the viers <I> f, </I> g, <i> h </I> extend beyond the opening <B> 127. </B> The lower edge of each of these levers, from b to 1. inclusive, is provided with a tab z directed downwards and placed so as to be on the path of a claw or tab 122 attached to the drum, so as to lift these levers, respectively, so that the adjustable contact pushers 128 actuate the spring-loaded Y button of their respective switch.
As seen in Figs. 1, 2 and 5, the shaft 118 which carries the endless screw for controlling the rotation of the drum is provided at its outer end with a square end 118a intended to receive a crank or other device making it possible to actuate the machine by hand for tuning purposes, as known. When such a manual maneuver is performed, it is desirable, for safety reasons, that the steep motor 100 be turned off.
Switch A is a slide stop switch for all automatic tool carriage operations, and it has a spring loaded plunger for. be commanded by the pusher 128 of the lever arm a integral with the shaft 124 to press on this plunger, opposing the force exerted by the spring.
The end of the shaft 7.24 on the side of the shaft 118 comprises a solidary lever 129, the free outer part of which 129n is normally in a position which prevents the introduction of any crank or any instrument on the square end 118a. . to perform a manual maneuver, this introduction being able to be performed only in the case where the free end of the lever 129 is lifted by hand, which rotates the integral shaft 124 around its axis and raises the lever a which presses the plunger of switch 3 and determines the operation of this switch.
Turret carriage and transverse carriages. As stated above, all the movements of the turret carriage 23 as well as those of the transverse carriages 25 and 26 are controlled by the single cam disc 135 driven by the feed shaft 30 provided with the worm 148 integral with this shaft and meshing with the worm wheel 151 integral with the shaft 154 of said disc-cam, the latter serving, in addition, to. unlock the turret 165 and modify the angular position of the turret, to order a selector device S (fig.
7) making it possible to engage or disengage the mechanical connection for actuating the transverse carriages 25 and <B> 26 </B> relative to the turret carriage 23 (see fig. 1, 4, 6 and 7).
The improvements relating to the turret carrier 23 consist. 1 to positively force the latch 175 to return to its locking position to ensure precise angular positioning of the turret as well as mating locking or clamping of the turret in the required angular position, which results in an increase in the machining precision of the machine; 2 into a device for controlling the sliding movement of the carriage: all these operations are initially controlled by the disc-cam 135, in addition to its other functions already mentioned in the preceding paragraph.
The turret carriage 23 has the form of a hollow and flat box provided with a relatively wide longitudinal and central opening 23a on its underside. The edges of the opening 23a are offset so as to form grooves resting on slides 136 and 137 on which the carriage 23 moves with a reciprocating movement relative to the mandrel 22 under the action of the disc. -cam <B> 135 </B> arranged horizontally inside the carriage 23 and above the slides 136 and 137.
The disc-cam 135 is provided on its upper face with a groove-cam 135n of substantially square shape, and there is provided a guide roller 147 carried by the lower face of the upper wall of the carriage 23 and penetrating into it. the cam groove 135a ,, it being understood that the disc 135 rotates in the direction indicated by the arrow in FIG. 7.
The disc-cam 135 executes one full revolution for each full reciprocating movement of the carriage 23, that is to say from its rear starting point (when the tower 165 is wedged in angular position), forward . towards the mandrel 22, and. back to its starting point. The carriage 23 is shown in FIGS. 1, 6 and 7 in its rear or starting position and immediately after the turret has been placed in the angular position intended for the next pass or operation and locked in that position by latch 175.
The turret 165 comprises poly gonal tool-holder faces as well as a hub 172 mounted so as to be able to rotate about a vertical axis in the anterior end of the turret-holder carriage 23; the tool-holder faces extend above the carriage 23 in front of the mandrel 22. Against the lower end of the hub 172 is applied a disc or plate for locking or wedging in the angular position 174.
This disc is in the shape of a crown and it is fixed by screws 174a. The lower surface of the disc 17-1 is provided with a series of grooves 176, one for each face of the turret disposed with a certain offset with respect to the radius, as indicated in dotted lines in FIG. 7; these grooves serve to receive a drive finger 180 carried by the cam disc 135 and provided for the angular positioning of the turret.
The upper surface of the dis 174 has a smaller diameter to reserve a circular groove 178 placed below the hub 172, the outer or peripheral surface of this reduced diameter portion having a polygonal shape, as at 179, so as to correspond with the number and position of the turret faces. The polygonal surfaces 179 are inclined upwards and inwards, they form stops provided so as to correspond to. contact surfaces formed on the latch 175.
The latch 175 is held in a grooved front face 181 of the guide block 163, the inner wall or part with a regular profile of the groove being oblique, as seen in FIG. 7 of the drawing, so as to constitute a wedging mortise so that the latch 175 slides into this opening in the longitudinal direction thereof and transversely of the machine and that this latch reaches its locking or wedging position thanks to the action of a return spring 190; in this position, the right chamfered face of the latch will wedge against a corresponding, reverse chamfered surface 179 of disc 174, the opposite edge of latch 175 having a shape that conforms to the bottom of the. groove 181.
At a determined point of the return movement of the carriage 23 and before. that it reaches its rearmost position, the cam disc 135 moves the cam 182 mounted on its upper face, to bring it into contact with a roller 183 carried by a lever 184, so as to tilt the latter counterclockwise, with respect to fig. 7, and because of the mechanical connection between this lever and the latch 175, the latter is pulled back, out of its locking position, in opposition to the tension of the spring 190, so as to release the turret 165 and to allow another angular setting thereof.
The lever 184 pivots at one end on the axis 185 integral with a rear part of the carriage 23, while its other end has a rounded part 187, this rounded part extending inside a corresponding front groove 188 provided. at one end of latch 175.
When this lock has been removed in this way, the finger 180 will have been moved so as to enter one of the angular positioning grooves 176, this groove having been moved to a position allowing it to receive the finger 180 , by a previous angular displacement of the turret. Having entered this groove and continued its movement with the disc-cam 135, the finger 180 has moved the turret 165 by one notch or one face and this finger 180 can be seen in FIG. 7 as it leaves the throat.
During this angular placement of the turret 165, the cutout portion 189 of the guide block 163 received the protruding cutout portion 189a of the latch, which moved the latch toward 1a. straight and formed a sufficient clearance to allow the rotation of the turret.
After the drive finger 180 of the turret has substantially completed the angular positioning of the latter, the rounding 182a of the cam 182 releases the lever 184 to allow the return spring 190 to exert a traction on it. the latch 175 and bring it to its position shown in FIG. 7, in which it fits between the bottom of the groove 181 and the corresponding chamfered surface 179 of the disc 171 fixed below the turret.
As already indicated, one of the improvements of the machine shown resides in the arrangement of the return spring 190 and in a means provided on the cam disc 135 to positively wedge the latch 175. in its locking position and to immobilize the turret after the lock has been previously placed in this position under the effect of the return spring 190.
To this end, and always with reference to FIG. 7, the spring 190 has been arranged inside the carriage 23, along its rear wall, so that one end of the spring is fixed to the carriage by means of a pin 194, while its other end, on the side of the latch 175, is connected to one end of an elbow lever 196 of a compensating device. The other end of the elbow lever 196 is articulated on the latch 175, for example in the manner indicated at 197, by means of a connection bar 195.
The compensating device further comprises a link 196a fixed to the elbow of the lever 196 and articulated on a pin or a bolt 196b fixed on the lower surface of the upper wall of the carriage 23. This compensating device, subjected to the tension of the spring 190, produces a very effective click effect on latch 175 to return it to its locked position. Under certain machine operating conditions, the action of the spring 190 by itself is insufficient or unsuitable to simultaneously effect the precise positioning and the jamming or wedging of the turret 165.
To overcome this difficulty, the intermediate or central arm 183a of the lever 184 which supports the cam roller 183 extends laterally and transversely to the cam disc 135, so that its free end is on the other side of the pivot pin 153 of this disc-cam 135.
This free end of the arm 183a carries a follower roller 183b which cooperates with a cam-lug 183c, fixed in an adjustable manner on the upper face of the disc-cam 135, after the spring 190 has returned the latch 175 and, by Consequently, the end 187 towards its position of installation and setting of the turret; this cooperation between the cam 183c and the roller 183b has the effect of exerting pressure on the lever 184 which tends to move it in the direction of clockwise, according to FIG. 7, so that its end 187 exerts a compressive pressure on the latch 175, so as to positively clamp the latter and to ensure with precision the angular positioning and the locking of the turret 165.
At the same instant, approximately o11, when the turret 165 is moved to its next angular position, a finger 240 integral with the cam-disc 135 enters one of the grooves 239, radially offset, these grooves being provided in the lower surface of an angular locating wheel or disc 235 belonging to the selector mechanism S of the transverse carriages, capable of activating, depending on the way in which the selector has been set for a particular machining operation, one or the other 'other, or none of the transverse cha riots 25 and 26.
It will suffice to see that the locking tabs 230 (fig. 7), controlled by the selector S rust or release the notches r provided on the push rods 205 which actuate the transverse carriages with respect to the up-and-down movement. -Comes from the turret carriage 23. Thus, after each complete revolution of the selector S, a drive tab or finger 344 integral with the disc 235 actuates a lever 3.15 of a grease pump 346.
After the turret has been angularly set up and locked in this position, and the proper selection of the transverse carriages has been made, the carriage 23 is actuated by the disc-cam 135, with a high speed motion transmitted from the mo tor 100 via the clutch head 94, the receiver shaft 77 and the feed shaft 30, in the direction of the mandrel 22 until the moment when the tool (not shown) that comprises the corresponding face of the turret is at the point of coming into contact with the workpiece (not shown) held by the mandrel.
At this time, a claw 122 of the claw drum 121, acting through devices described later, moves the clutch cone 96 to release it from the clutch head 94 and engage it with the clutch head. clutch 87, which gives the carriage 23 a slow feed and cutting motion until the moment. where this cutting operation is completed. .11 is of course, of course, that the operating cycle of the machine depends on the number of faces that the turret 165 has, or on the number of these faces to be used for a given operation on a workpiece according to the setting of the machine; for example, it can be equipped with a mechanism making it possible to jump one or more faces of the turret.
Therefore, at the end of each forward movement of the carriage 23 towards the driver, when the roller 147 is on the rounded part vv 'of the cam-groove 135a of the disc-cam 135, a device control T, with vertical movement intended to ensure the sliding movements of the tools, which is mounted on the front end of the carriage 23, comes into action. The mechanism which controls this device T constitutes an improvement of the machine shown.
The control device T for tools to be slidably mounted on the turret, as generally used on automatically controlled revolving lathes, comprises a bar mounted so as to slide and provided with an upper end t 'provided with a notch and intended to cooperate with a member also notched and complementary t2 forming part of the device <B> 165th </B> of the corresponding carriage tool fixed on any one of the faces of the turret 165 (this device being partially shown in FIG. 6). Therefore, when any face of turret 165 carries a tool.
slide and when this face is in the working position, the member t2 of the tool to slide cooperates with the end t1 of the control device T. These tools to slide are generally used to form grooves and internal cavities in the workpiece.
The vertical movement is applied to the control device T of the tool to be driven by a rod 400 disposed inside the carriage 23 below the disc-cam 135, which extends in the longitudinal direction. .1 of the carriage 23 between the pivot axis 153 of the cam disc 135 and the slide 137. The rear end of the rod 400 is thinned and is mounted as a slide at 401 in a bearing formed in the carriage 23.
The front end of the rod 400 is mounted in a similar manner, slidably at 402 in a bearing formed in the carriage 23 and comprises a toothed rack 403 which meshes with a long pinion 404 whose axis rotates. in bearings formed at 405 in the carriage. The control device T also comprises a toothed rack 406 which meshes with the pinion 404 (see FIGS. 6 and 7).
Near the rear end of the rod 400, and on the upper surface thereof, there is provided a locking member or elongate and flat plate 407 forming a stop and articulated. by its middle on this rod by means of a vertical axis 408 integral with the rod.
The front end 409 of the locking member 407 may have a bevelled or conical shape, as has been shown (fig. 7, 8 and 9 ;, capable of cooperating with a finger 410 integral with the underside of the disc. cam 135 with a view to moving the rod 400 backwards, this movement being transmitted by the pinion 404 to the control device T of the tool to be chained,
in order to actuate this member T vertically and thus move the tool to be jerked. The pad 407 is provided at a rear angle with a downwardly projecting tab 411 which abuts against the adjacent side of the rod 400 to prevent the pad 407 from wobbling or tilting when attacked by the finger -110 in the manner which has just been described; the plate 407 is normally maintained in the position indicated on the fi. 7 by a spring 412, one end of which is fixed to the tab 411 and the other to the rod 400.
The rod 400 returns to its position indicated on the fi-. 6 and 7 thanks to a finger 413 projecting below the disc-cam 135 and cooperating with the free end of the bent lever 414 which is articulated at 415 on an element forming a projection from the. wall of the pump tank 346. The other end of the lever 414 is held between two shoulders formed by a cavity 416 provided in the rod 400. When the free end of the angled lever 414 is driven by the finger 413 integral with the disc -came, the bent lever turns on its axis 415 in the opposite direction to that of the needles of a watch and restores the rod 400 in its most advanced position (fig. 6 and 7), so as to move the device T towards down, that is to say towards its initial or starting position.
When we look at fig. 7, it may be that the finger 410 seems never to be able to meet the locking member 407 or that the finger 413 seems never to meet the lever 414. In this regard, it should be taken into account that the The pivot axis 153 of the cam disc 135 is fixed with respect to the longitudinal displacement of the turret carriage 23 which carries the rod 400.
Referring to fig. 8, we notice that before. as the roller 147 approaches the rest part vz, 'in the cam groove 135, the finger 413 passes through the front end 409 of the plate 407, but just as the roller 147 enters this part vv' of the groove-cam (fig. 9), the turret carriage 23 is in its position closest to the mandrel 22 and the finger 410 meets the end surface 409 of the plate 407 and pushes the rod 400 backwards on a distance and for a period sufficient to control the device T which actuates the tool.
If we also refer to FIG. 9, it will be noted that after having been pushed back to the limit of its travel by finger 410, rod 400 assumes a position indicated in dotted lines and that the free end called lever 414 bases as far as. be on the path of the finger 413 which will then meet the rod 400, after which the finger 410 passes the plate 407 bypassing it, avoiding it and thus applies a counterclockwise rotational movement to the lever 414 which returns the rod .100 to its initial position.
The plate 407 is articulated in the manner described above, so that if the. machine is operated at. the hand and behind, one or the other of the fingers 410 or 413 meets the anterior end of this plate 407 which will switch in the direction of clockwise on its pivot axis -108, which avoids any jamming which would otherwise occur, the relative displacement of these fingers being provided so that the fingers only strike the member 407 in front of the pivot axis 408. From the foregoing it is clear, on everything with reference to fig. 4-, that thanks to the selective coupling of the clutch cones 43 and 44 with their respective clutch heads 39, 40 and 41, 42, four automatic changes of speed of the spindle 21 are carried out, that by coupling selectively the clutch cones 91, 92 and 93 with their respective clutch heads 81, 83, 85, three automatic changes of advance movement are carried out concerning the cutting operations of the turret carriage 23 and of the transverse carriages 25 and 26 and that finally, by coupling the cone 96 with one or the other of its clutch heads 87 and 94,
movements are transmitted to these carriages and these are moved at their normal forward speed or at rapid speed by means of the motor 100 which controls the rapid movement respectively, or, when the clutch cone 96 is located in its intermediate or neutral position, any automatic movement of the feed shaft 30 and of the claw drum 121 and, consequently, of the carriages 23, 25 and 26 is suppressed. <I> cycle </I> of the machine includes an operation in which the turret carriage 23 performs a reciprocating movement, relative to the spindle, repeated as many times as there are faces on the turret 165 , or at least faces in working arrangement to allow the tools it carries to perform machining on a given part.
The operation of the clutch mechanisms is effected by an electro-pneumatic mechanism shown in Figs. 4 and 15 and shown in more detail, with regard to the machine shown, in FIGS. 1, 2, 3 and 10 to 15 inclusive.
The electro-pneumatic mechanism for actuating the clutch mechanisms for changes in the speed of rotation of the spindle and the advance of the carriages comprises pneumatic cylinders or air cylinders 417, 418, 428, 429, 430 and 451. The cylinders 417, 418, 428, 429 and 430 are arranged in a compartment C ′ at the rear of the doll 20 near the clutch mechanisms which they control; on one side of the compartment C 'containing said cylinders is another compartment C2, in which the solenoid air valves which control said cylinders are arranged, as seen in figs. 2 and 3.
An important feature of the machine shown is the special position given to the air cylinders, so that their pistons are directly connected to the forks which move the clutch cones, eliminating a number of parts, such as connecting rods. 'coupling, rods, which not only complicate the mechanism, but cause a loss of energy and movement, which is such as to reduce the speed of operation of these clutch mechanisms. As shown in the fi, -. 3, the air cylinders 417 and 418 are mounted on a vertical canvas or wall 419 inside the tailstock 20 and near the clutch heads 39, 40 and 41., 42, respectively, of shifting. advanced.
These air cylinders can be formed by a single casting divided by a central wall. Each cylinder is respectively provided with a piston rod 417a and 418a, the rods of these pistons being substantially parallel to the axis of the clutch heads 39, 40 and 41, 42.
The cylinders 417, 418 are preferably arranged so that their respective piston rods move away from said cylinders in opposite directions and are respectively arranged against the clutch cones 43 and 44, the ends of the piston rods being articulated, respectively, on rocking levers 420 integral with the shafts 421 which pass through the partition 419 and journal in appropriate bearings arranged in this partition, the other end of these shafts being integral with a rocking arm 423 attached to clutch forks 424 housed in the circumferential groove of their respective clutch cones 43 and 44.
Each lever 420 is provided with a tab 425 which moves between adjustable stops 426 and 427 allowing the stroke of each clutch cone to be precisely adjusted.
The two cylinders 417 and 418 are connected to a source of compressed air by their opposite ends, so that the pistons moving inside these cylinders work slowly double-acting, that is to say so that they can be operated in both directions. Thus, one end of the cylinder 417 is connected by the pipe B2 to the solenoid valve B ', which makes it possible to move the piston 417a to actuate the cone 43 to couple it to the clutch head 39 and to release it from the clutch head 40, while the other end of the cylinder 417 is connected.
through a C2 pipe to the solenoid valve <B> C </B>, which allows the piston 417a to be moved in order to control the cone 43 to release it from the clutch head 39 and engage it with the clutch head 40 (see fig. . 4). The cylinder 418 communicates, through the pipe.
D2, with the solenoid valve D 'to move the piston 418a in the direction allowing to actuate the cone 44 to couple it to the clutch head 41 and away from the clutch head 42, while the other end of the cylinder 418 is connected by a pipe E '= to the solenoid valve E' in order to move the piston 418a in the direction which couples the clutch cone 44 with the clutch head 42 and releases it from the clutch head 41 (see also fig. 4).
The solenoids of these pneumatic valves <I> B ', C', D ' </I> and <I> L " </I> are respectively excited by the switches or contacts <I> B, C, D </I> and E which are closed by corresponding claws 122, the assembly of which is carried out in an adjustable manner, depending on the particular operation that one wishes to perform with the machine, on the claw drum 121, in in order to perform the four gear changes that have been described above.
As can be seen in FIG. 4, and according to the arrangement of the trees in FIG. :?, the gears 82, 84 and 86, which are respectively driven by the clutch heads 81, 83 and 85, are grouped around the gear train 88, 89, 90 integral with the clutch head <B> 87. </B> The gears 82, 84 and <B> 86 </B> and their respective clutch heads 81, 83 and 85 are shown in fig. 3, as well as their clutch cone 91, 92 and 93 (although, for the sake of clarity, the clutch head S7 and its gear train have not been shown in fig. 3).
The clutch cones 91, 92 and 93 are actuated so as to be coupled to their respective clutch heads by means of the pistons 428U, 429a and 430a, respectively mounted in the cylinders 428, 429 and 430, one end of which is 'articulated at 431 on an end wall of the housing 20 of the headstock, which allows a slight displacement of the cylinders to compensate for the movements effected by the pistons.
The rods of pistons 428n, 429a and 430a extend out of the other end of their cylinder and in the same general direction as that of shafts 78, 79 and 80 on which slide the clutch cones 91, 92 and 93, and, on the other hand, each piston rod is respectively connected to one of these cones.
These mechanical links between the piston rods 428a, 429n and 430a and their respective cones 91, 92 and 93 are identical and include the free end of the piston rods connected to the respective rocking levers 432, 433 and 434 which are integral with 'an end part of the shafts 428b, 429b and 430b, respectively, while the other end of these shafts is placed near their cones 91, 92 and 93 and each being integral with a tilting lever 432a, 433a and 434a which carries a 91a chette oven.,
92n and. 93a cooperating with the usual circumferential groove provided in the clutch cones. These shafts 428b, 429b and 430b are articulated in bearings provided in the vertical wall 419.
The air cylinders 428, 429, 430 are each connected by pipes J2, K2 and L2 to their respective solenoid valve <I>: I ', K', He, </I> so as to operate single-acting under the pneumatic pressure and to actuate the respective clutch heads 81, 83 and 85 when the compressed air is admitted into the cylinders. As seen in fig. 3, piston 430a has been actuated, which has coupled clutch cone 93 with its clutch head 85 and, when air escapes from cylinder 430 through the opening of its solenoid valve L ', the clutch cone 93 remains in engagement with the clutch head 85.
When one of the clutch heads 81, 83 and. 85 is thus engaged, the other clutch heads are released thanks to a simple mechanical locking device comprising three levers with two arms 436, 437 and 438, this arrangement being made possible by the arrangement of the cylinders 428, 429 and 430 and of their respective pistons placed side by side and substantially in the same plane, as seen in FIGS. 3 and 4. For this purpose, the piston rods 428a, 429a and 430a are each provided with an adjustable shoulder or stop .128c, 429e and 430c.
A lever 436, articulated by its median part on the wall 419, is, disposed between the piston rods 428n and 429n, its ends being, placed in the plane of movement of the aforementioned shoulders 428c and 429e against which said ends must lean. A similar lever 437 is. also arranged so that its ends are located between the shoulders 429e and 430c of the pistons 429a and 430a. A third lever 438 is mounted like the other two, but it extends between the piston rods 428a and 430a, so that its ends lie in the plane of movement of the stops 428d and 430d.
Thus, it can be seen that, if air is admitted into any one of the cylinders 428, 429 or 430, the pistons of the other two cylinders will move to the right (fig. 3) by releasing the heads of the cylinder. 'clutch associated with each of the piston rods controlled by these cylinders, provided that the compressed air has been evacuated from these last two cylinders. It is obvious that this arrangement of the levers 436, 437 and 438 also serves as interlocking and prevents the coupling of more than one clutch head 81, 83 or 85 at a time.
The solenoids of the valves J ', K' and L 'are respectively energized by said switches J, K and L which are closed by the corresponding claws 122 mounted in an adjustable manner, as has already been said, on the drum 121, to ensure the speed change of the advance movement of the turret carriage 23 and the transverse carriages 25 and 26.
Valves <I> B ', C', D ', E', F, J ', K', L ' </I> Solenoid are of the well-known ordinary three-way type which allows the passage of compressed air when the solenoid is energized and which cuts off this passage of compressed air coming from the source when the solenoid ceases to be excited, which expels air to its outlet side.
A similar type of valve now in use comprises an elongated valve housing or body with an opening at its lower end which communicates with a main supply pipe 439 for compressed air, which comprises a 440a pressure regulator of known type (fig. 2 and 4), so as to control the compressed air directed to the valves in order to avoid the sudden pressure variations so frequent in compressed air installations.
Likewise, a pressure switch 440 is connected to the compressed air inlet pipe 439 and functions as a safety and cut-off device since it controls an electrical circuit 476a-476b which cuts off the power supply to the motors! and 100 to stop the operation of the machine as soon as the air pressure drops below a pressure providing sufficient safety for the normal operation of the clutch mechanisms of the machine.
The interior of the valve body 441 (Fig. 10) is divided in the transverse direction by a wall through which a bore drilled in the longitudinal direction of the body passes. This bore has an intake port 442 and an exhaust side port 442a which can be connected to a pipe; this bore has seats 443 and 444. A rod 445 of much smaller diameter than that of the bore passes freely through the latter and comprises at its upper end a valve 446 intended to cooperate with the aforementioned seat 443, while that the other end of this rod extends beyond the seat 444 when the valve 446 rests on its seat 443.
On the other hand, a valve 447 is arranged so as to slide in the lower chamber of the valve body, so as to cooperate with the seat 444 while being normally hand held in its closed position which cuts off the air supply. compressed from feed pipe 439; in this position, valve 447 rests against and lifts stem 445, which moves valve 446 away from its seat and establishes communication between exhaust light 442a and an exhaust port 448 provided in the body 441 beyond the seat 443, which releases the pressurized air contained in the aforementioned cylinder to which the valve body is connected to the open air.
A solenoid 449 is mounted so as to overcome the valve body 441 and, when energized, its armature 449a presses on the rod 445, so as to apply the valve 446 to its seat 443 (which cuts off communication between lights 448 and 442a) and at the same time the lower end of the rod 445 is moved beyond the seat 444, which moves the valve 447 away from its seat against the force exerted by the spring.
150, which allows pressurized air to enter through pipe 439, the seat 444 and lumen 442a, until solenoid 449 ceases to be energized, thus allowing spring 450 to lift the armature towards its high position which allows, on the other hand, the return of the valve -147 against its seat, which pushes the rod 445 and moves the valve 446 away from its seat and communicates the light 442a with the escape light 448.
As has already been described, the clutch cone 96 serves to couple the clutch head 87 or the clutch head 94; as can be seen more clearly in fig. 1 and 4, this cone is moved towards its two clutch positions and towards its central or neutral position by means of a piston mechanism or pneumatic cylinder P actuated by compressed air, which can engage the clutch head 94 and disengage the clutch. clutch head 87 or vice versa, or which can place the cone 96 in its neutral position; this mechanism P is subjected to the action of a return spring tending to deter the coupling of the clutch head 87 and the release of the clutch head 94.
This piston mechanism is shown in detail in Figs. 11 to 13 inclusive, and it is indicated in fig. 1 and 2 as said posed roughly in the center of. shear casing 20, behind the claw drum 121.
The piston mechanism P comprises the air cylinder 451 inside which the piston 452 moves. A rod 453 integral with one end of the piston passes through the end wall of the cylinder, this rod 453 being provided with stepped shoulders 454 and 155, so as to progressively reduce its diameter towards its outer end. A rod 456 slides through an opening made in the other end wall of cylinder 451 and through an axial hole 457 formed in the piston rod, into which it screws, its protruding end being blocked by an elastic washer and a lock nut.
The bore 457 has a diameter larger than that of the rod -156 (except the tapped place which serves to join the rod and the rod), which makes it possible to accommodate a helical cylindrical spring .158 working lant compression, one end of which bears on a shoulder formed by the bore 457 at the place where it meets said threading thread, while the other end of the spring bears against a shoulder formed by a cavity 451a which constitutes an extension of the bore 457, but in the end wall of the cylinder opposite the rod -153 (fig. 7.2).
The opposite end of the rod 456 extends inside a fork-shaped portion of a lever .159 hinged to a shaft 460, so as to. oscillate on it (fig. 1 and 11). The fork-shaped portion of lever 459 has a transverse bore which contains a pin -161 on which the rod 156 is hinged. A clutch fork 96a has its rod fixed inside one end of this fork. bore of the lever 459 and turns the clutch cone 96 in the circular groove of which it is housed according to the usual method.
Thus, it is clear that the position of the piston 152 determines that of the clutch cone 96 and, consequently, the engagement or disengagement of the clutch heads 87 and 94 and, furthermore, the compressive force exerted by the spring 458 against the piston via its rod takes place in the direction necessary to couple the cone 96 with the clutch head 87, which gives this piston 452 the position that one see in fig. 4 and 12.
A bracket 463 extends outwardly and laterally with respect to the end plate of cylinder 451 through which the piston rod 453 passes; this console -163 supports a bolt -16-1 which slides in a bore or passage reserved in a boss provided on the console, in order to allow it a movement substantially perpendicular to the rod: 153 and whose end forming. click is positioned so as to. cooperate with the shoulders of this rod.
Latch 464 is provided with a suitable return device, for example, a set of springs 465, so that its end moves normally in contact with the three shoulder surfaces of the outer end of rod 453 and that 'it can be completely released, in opposition to the return force of the planned device, from this contact with the rod (or at least out of the path of movement of the latter), and this thanks to a solenoid H' mounted on console 463 and mechanically connected to the locking device.
The boss in which the lock slides is provided with an opening or air passage 466 capable of being cut in two by the lock 464 and of which one end 466a ends inside the cylinder 451 on the corresponding side of the piston 452, while its other end 466b communicates with the atmosphere. The compressed air supply 439 is connected to the passage 466 at an intermediate point between the point where the latter opens at 466a in the cylinder 451 and the latch 464.
The latter has a portion of smaller diameter 467 forming an air passage lumen and placed axially, so that during the backward movement of the latch due to the actuation of the solenoid H '(in the position indicated in dotted lines in Fig. 12) this lumen 467 corresponds with the passage 466 and allows the expansion of the pressurized air contained in the cylinder 451, which reaches the atmosphere through the opening 466b.
The purpose of evacuating cylinder 451 at this point and at this time is to eliminate any flapping of piston 452 and to quickly evacuate any compressed air that may remain due to insufficiently rapid operation of valve F 'when the operation of the latter is immediately followed by that of the switch H or when the rapid movement control lever f is held in its upper position by hand while the switch H is actuated by claws placed on drum 121.
When the solenoid H 'ceases to be energized, the springs 465 revive the latch and the armature of the solenoid towards the position indicated in solid lines in fig. 12, wherein the latch lumen 467 moves away from the air channel 466, which closes the exhaust lumen 466b, while the end of the latch again meets the stepped portion of the piston rod 453. .
The compressed air introduced into the cylinder 451 at point 466a is controlled by the solenoid valve F '(which is located on the air inlet pipe 439), the solenoid of this valve being energized by the switch F double acting fast, which can be maintained by hand or by means of a claw 122 suitably placed on the drum 121, to move the piston 452 in the direction necessary to compress the spring 458 and couple the cone of clutch 96 with. the clutch head 94.
At the moment when the piston 452 reaches the intermediate position Y during its movement between its forward position at normal speed and its Z forward position at rapid speed (fig. 12), the latch 464, which the return device normally tends to hold against the shouldered portion of the rod 453, meets the first reduced diameter portion of this rod forming the shoulder 454 and, if the solenoid valve F 'ceases to be energized at this time, this shoulder 454 bu will press against the lock thus preventing the compression spring 458 from returning the piston 452 to its normal advance position and maintaining the clutch cone 96 in its intermediate position,
which stops any automatic drive movement of the turret carriage 23 and of the transverse carriages 25 and 26.
However, if the solenoid valve F 'remains energized, the piston 452 will continue its stroke to its fast forward position and move the clutch cone 96 which will mate with the clutch head 94, and at this time. of the path of the piston, the latch 464 will contact the last shoulder of the rod 453, i.e. the shoulder 455, and will hold the piston, and therefore the clutch cone 96, in the high speed position. At this time, the compressed air is cut from the cylinder 451 by operation of the solenoid valve F 'and the opening of sa. escape light 448.
When it is desired to change the advance speed of the carriage 23 from high speed to normal speed, one of the claws 1.22 suitably placed on the drum 121 actuates the switch H, so as to energize the solenoid H 'which withdraws the latch 464 from its locked position, so that the opening 467 provided in this latch 464 corresponds with the opening 466 thus allowing rapid evacuation of the air from the rod side of the cylinder 451 through the exhaust port 466b, the compression spring 458 rapidly returning the piston 452 and, consequently, the cone 96, to their advancing position shown in solid lines in FIG. 12.
In the operation of the revolver lathe shown, it has been observed that the piston mechanism P ensures a repeated and constant precision of the adjustment over time when the advance speed of the turret carriage is changed from the rapid speed to a speed normal.
The cylinder 451 also has another bracket 468 placed near the stepped portion of the piston rod 453. This console normally supports a unipolar switch with a normally open contact 469 and a unipolar double contact switch 470, arranged so that their pushbuttons can be respectively actuated by elbow levers 471 and 472 articulated by their middle on a pivot pin 473 integral with the console 468.
One end of each of the angled levers 471 and 472 presses respectively on the push-buttons of the switches 469 and 470 and is normally held in this position by means of springs 474 arranged below the bearing ends of these levers and which are housed in cavities reserved in the console 468. The other end of these angled levers comprises adjustment screws forming a stop, 469a and 470a, screwed into these levers and cooperating with a lever 475, one end of which is articulated on the axis 473 above, while the other end cooperates with the shoulder 454 of the rod 453 of the piston.
The springs 474 also serve to keep the stop screws 469a and 470a in contact with the lever 475. The stop screw 469a is adjusted so as to actuate the switch 469 against the action exerted by its spring. return to close this switch as soon as the piston rod 453 leaves its position corresponding to the advance at normal speed and to open it as soon as this position is reached;
switch 470 is actuated against its return device to close one circuit and open another just before the piston reaches its neutral position when it moves from its position corresponding to the advance at normal speed to. that at high speed; this switch 470 then closes this circuit and opens the first circuit cited, under the influence of its return device, immediately after the piston rod has left its neutral position, in the movement effected from the position corresponding to the fast forward to that at normal speed.
These switches 469 and 470 serve to place the control circuits in the position corresponding to each of the positions of piston 452 and of its rod 453, in order to stop the movements of the turret carriage.
The operation. the revolver lathe shown in the drawing and. described above is controlled by electrical control circuits shown schematically in FIG. 15, where, for the sake of clarity, the circuits are grouped according to the function they perform. For the same purpose, the various slaving devices or switches actuated by control relays are designated by the reference number of the relay followed by a secondary reference number preceded by a hyphen.
From reading the above description, it is also clear that the switches I3 to. The included can be operated automatically by the drum 121, on the one hand, or by hand using the levers or handles b included, on the other hand., While the switch .1 is operated by hand only ment when the machine parts have to be moved by hand; Likewise, the push-button switches 485, 488 and 489, respectively, for start, stop and work, placed on the front of the tailstock 20 are manually operated.
The electric braking device M 'of the main driving motor M or for controlling the spindle is actuated automatically by the rotation of the motor M, according to the usual mode of operation of this type of device. The compressed air switch 440 operates automatically according to the air pressure in the supply pipe 439, while the switches 469 and 470 are automatically actuated by the piston mechanism P.
In fig. 15, the main motor 1I, the motor 100 for moving the carriages at high speed, the cooling motor R and the solenoid H 'are connected to a main network or sector 476. The motor M which actuates the spindle is of the reversible type. and it is equipped with the electric braking device already mentioned, indicated in DT '. The rotation in the normal direction of the motor M is commanded by the relay 477 which actuates the contacts 477-1, while the reverse direction of rotation is commanded by the relay 478 which actuates the contacts 478-1.
The revolving lathe shown can be fitted with the cooling motor R to effect the circulation of a cooling fluid over the workpiece and the tools which perform the cutting operations. The cooling motor, when a coolant is used, is controlled by the relay 479 which actuates the starter contacts 479-1 of this motor. However, whether or not the motor R is used to provide refrigeration circulation, the relay 479 is used in the control circuit for a purpose which will be described later.
The motor 100 which controls the high-speed movement of the carriages is in turn controlled by the quick-latch relay 480 which actuates the starter switch 480-1 of this motor. The other relays, servo devices, switches and solenoids used in the control circuit are all shown in fig. 15, and their function is described in the following description: The control circuit is represented by the supply lines <I> 476a </I> and 476b. It is preferable that the voltage of the control circuit is constant and relatively low (compared to the voltage of the mains 476), in order to avoid injury to personnel.
Consequently, a transformer 476c is interposed between the sector 476 and the lines 476a and 476b. While the control relays 477, 478, 479 and 480 are shown in the upper part of fig. 15 as being associated with their respective contacts or switches or servo members, these members are also represented in their respective control circuit in other places of the diagram, in order to associate them with the circuit parts in which they are normally inserted.
These control relays, as well as others used in the general arrangement (e.g. relays 481, 482, 483, 484 and 486) when energized or ceasing to be energized, open or close one or more switches. so-called locking or slaving and which are. identified by the reference number of the relay which actuates them, followed by a secondary number to identify this particular switch or control device.
Thus, if one refers in particular to the control circuits of the motor 14'1 and of the high-speed motion motor 100, it will be assumed that the machine is completely stopped. To start the machine, we press the start pushbutton 985, normally open (also shown in fig. 1), to close the circuit between lines 476a and 476b, and, given that relay 478 n 'is not energized, its normally closed interlock switch 478-2 being in the closed position, the relay 477 is energized, which closes the forward switch 477-1 of the motor M.
At the same time, the fact of pressing the start button 485 produces the excitation of the solenoid 486 which releases the lock 487 of the braking device M 'of the motor M and allows the actuation of this device. The energization of the relay 477 opens the servo device 477-2 normally closed, which prevents the energization of the relay 478 for reversing the direction of rotation of the spindle, when the electric braking device 11 'is closed. as a result of the rotation of the motor M which has just started, so that the locking switch 478-2 included in the circuit of the relay 477 remains closed.
However, relay 479, which was also energized by actuation of button 485, closes interlock switch 479-2, which energizes fast-acting relay 480, since manual operation switch 4 closes. its contacts a'-a3, which finally closes the switch 480-1 of the motor 100 for controlling the advance at high speed.
The energization of the fast speed forward movement relay 480 closes the normally open interlocking device 4.80-2 to form a hold circuit by this relay 480 between the conductors 476a and 476b, including the pushbutton. normally closed 488 which controls the stopping of the ma chine, thus maintaining the excitation of relay 480 as well as relays 477, 479 and 486. When the circuits of motor i17 and motor 100 advance to high speed are In this condition, these engines run as well as the cooling engine if required.
Since the various switches and control devices grouped together in the second bracket from the top in fig. 15 are shown in their forward movement position, it will be assumed that the turret carriage 23 is now in its normal speed forward movement, that the high speed feed motor 100 is running and that the piston 452 <B> (fi-. </B> 12) is in its forward position, shown in solid lines, and that the clutch cone 96 cooperates with the clutch head 87.
When the piston 452 is in this position, the switches 469 and 470 are in the position shown in fig. 15, and it will further be assumed that no claw is provided on the drum 121 to actuate the switch F which controls the forward movement at rapid speed, the switch <B> 6 </B> advance interruption or the advance switch H, and that these various switches are also in the position shown in fig. 15.
The switches being thus arranged, the control relay 484 is energized at. from the supply conductors 476a and 476b, through the normally closed contacts f'-f2 of the switch F and also through the interlocking device 482-2 normally closed, which has. as a consequence of exiting the relay 484, of closing its holding device 484-1 as well as the locking device 484-2 inserted in the circuit of the compressed air valve F '.
Now, to change the movement of the turret carriage 23 from the normal speed feed movement to the fast speed feed movement either by means of a claw mounted on the drum 121 or by manual lifting of the lever f, switch F opens its contacts f'-f2 and closes its contacts f '# - f3, so as to energize the solenoid of the air valve F' (the servo device 484-2 being closed, as we come to to say), which allows the passage of the compressed air through the, solenoid valve F 'to arrive at, the interior of the cylinder 451 to move the piston 452 to its position of high speed movement,
as described. Move. of piston 452 first actuates switch 469, which closes contacts y'-y2 and, as piston 452 approaches the middle neutral position, switch 470 is actuated in turn and opens contacts x'-x3 and closes contacts x'-x2;
none of these changes affect the excitation circuit of the solenoid valve F 'since the switch-F is held in the closed position closes contacts f' f 3 for a time sufficient to allow the piston 452 to at dye its movement position at high speed and dw be locked by the latch 464 which retains it by the shoulder 455, otherwise the piston 452 would be pushed by its return spring 458 to the neutral position or advance at normal speed depending on where the piston is in cylinder 451 when switch F is actuated to open contacts f'-f 3.
When the switch 469 has been actuated so as to close the contacts y'-y2, the control relay 481 has been energized by the intermediary of the contacts h'-h2 of the advance switch H, the device 481-1 slaving and maintaining of this relay 481 was closed, as well as its slaving devices 481-2, 481-3, the latter having energized relay 483 via the closed contacts g '-g2 of the advance stop switch G;
on the other hand, given that the relay 483 is now energized, its servo device 483-1, constituting its holding contact, is also closed, as is the device 483-2, but, although the contacts x '-x2 of switch 470 are currently closed, relay 482 is not energized, since contacts g'-g3 of switch G are open. Thus, it clearly appears that the changes which have just been mentioned for the switches 469 and 470 have no other consequences than the implementation of other circuits in the event that one wishes to carry out other operations. with the machine.
From what has just been described, the turret carrier 23 now moves in motion at rapid speed and it will be assumed that it is moving backwards, that is to say in s' moving away from the mandrel 22; when the carriage reaches its furthest rear position, at which the turret 165 is angularly moved and then locked, the carriage returns again towards the chuck with a movement at rapid speed.
When the tools are within approximately 20/25 mm of the workpiece, the advance switch <i> II </I> is actuated either by a claw 122 fixed to the drum 121, or by manual actuation of the lever h (fig. 5), in order to open its contacts h'-h2 and to close its contacts h '-h3, and, whether or not the switch F which controls the movement at high speed has been released, the advance switch H will energize the relay 482 by means of the servo device 481 -2 which is now closed,
given that the relay 481 is kept energized by its device 481-1 and that the switch 469 has closed the contacts y'-j2. The energization of relay 482 opened the normally closed device 482-2, which interrupted the excitation of relay 484, which in turn opens device 484-2, so as to cut off the excitation of the relay 484-2. solenoid of the valve F ', thus cutting off the compressed air supply to the cylinder dre 451 and causing the cylinder to communicate with the exhaust port 448 provided in said valve, although the switch F may still have its contacts f 'f3 closed.
Likewise, the excitation of relay 482 closed its holding device 482-1 as well as locking device 482-3, the latter having <i> excited </I> the solenoid <I> H ' </I> which controls the lock of the piston rod 452, taking power from the sector 476. The solenoid <i> II ' </I> Being thus energized, the latch 464 is removed from the plane of travel of the rod 453 and its lumen 467 now communicates with the exhaust port 466b, which allows the compression spring 458 to quickly re-mount the piston. 452 towards its advance position (indicated in solid lines in fig. 12) and releases the clutch cone 96 from the clutch head 94 by securing this cone to the clutch head 87,
even if maximum air pressure is applied to the piston when the advance switch <i> II </I> is activated, as explained above; at this time, a stopper 122 fixed on the drum 121 will have already actuated one of the feed change switches J, K or L to effect the feed movement at a normal speed with the turret carriage 23; in fig. 3, 4 and 15, the switch L which controls the passes or the roughing advance being shown as having been chosen.
As the piston 452 moves away from its high-speed motion position to approach its normal-speed advance position just described, the lever 475, which bears on the shoulder 454 of the rod 453 of this piston, is actuated by this movement, so as to produce first of all the opening of the contacts x'-x2 of the switch 470 and to close the contacts x'-x3 of this same switch re linked to the solenoid valve circuit <B> P </B> and then, during the same movement of the piston and just as it reaches its forward position at normal speed, this lever 475 activates the switch 469, whose contacts y'-y2 open by cutting the power to relay 481 which thus opens its holding contact 481-1 and its locking contact 481-2,
the latter cutting off the excitation of relay 482 which in turn opens its holding contact 482-1 as well as its locking device 482-3 which cuts off the power supply to the solenoid H 'of the piston lock and finally enables the springs 465 (fig. 11 and 12) to pull and elastically maintain the latch 464 in contact with the rod 453, that is to say in the position shown in solid lines in FIG. 12. Movement of latch 464 closes exhaust port 466b, allowing compressed air to be re-applied to piston 452.
When the relay 482 has ceased to be energized, as we have just said, the locking or servo device 482-2, normally closed, has closed again, which allows the energization of the relay 484 to the by means of the switch P which controls the movement at high speed, if it has been released, so that it is possible to move the turret carriage 23 away in order to direct it towards its most rearward position (for the angular change of the position of the turret) not with its forward movement at normal or cutting speed, but with a movement at rapid speed.
Assuming that the fast motion control switch F has been released and that it has closed its contacts f '--f2, relay 484 is then energized and closes its holding contact 484-1 as well as the device '484-2 servo-control, which makes it possible to energize the solenoid of the valve F' with compressed air when the switch P is actuated (either by a claw carried by the drum 121, or manually by means of the lever <B> f), </B> in order to open its f'-f2 contacts and close its f '-f 3 contacts, which the switch <i> II </I> has been released or not to open the jz'-h3 contacts and close the h contacts,
'-h2. This type of control, in which the switch actuated last takes effective control of the operation of the machine, is necessary to ensure that if one of the idle levers jz is kept raised by hand, which actuates it. switch, the turret carriage will still perform the movement selected last. For example, if the workpiece is short, the switch <i> II </I> can continue to be actuated by its claw placed on the drum, at the end of the movement of the turret, and at this point a claw 122 of the drum will control the movement switch F at high speed to return the turret running at high speed to its rear position where it undergoes the necessary angular change.
In the event that the claw 122 on the drum 121 or the lever f continues to actuate the switch F to close the contacts f '-f3 when it is desired to impart to the turret carriage a forward movement at normal speed, this last will be reached when the switch <i> II </I> will be operated either by a clamp or by hand.
Furthermore, if it is desired to stop the movement of the turret carriage 23, while the latter is in forward movement at normal speed (that is to say when the pis ton 452 is in its advance position indicated in solid lines in fig. 12, and that the clutch cone 96 is engaged with the clutch head 87), the switch G to control the stopping of the movement can be actuated. advance either by means of a claw, or by hand, completing a step circuit through contacts g'-g3 and the solenoid of the air valve F ',
since the x'-x3 contacts are closed by the position of the switch 470 and the locking device 484-2 is, now closed, which allows the application of compressed air in the cylinder 451 to actuate the piston 452;
when the piston 452 leaves its advance position at normal speed, it actuates the switch 469 whose contacts y'-y2 close (which energizes the relay 481 and closes the slaving devices 481-1, 481-2 and 481-3) and at the instant when the piston 452 is about to reach its neutral or intermediate position, the other switch 470 is actuated by the piston rod 453, in order to open the circuit for energizing the solenoid of the compressed air valve F ', which cuts off the supply of compressed air to the cylinder 451 and allows the latter to expand.
Since the piston 452 performs a certain stroke after the switch 470 has been so commanded, this piston will continue to move slightly until the lock 464 meets the shoulder 454 of the piston rod, thereby maintaining the piston rod shoulder 454. here as well as the clutch cone 96 in their neutral or intermediate position. The control relay 483 was not energized when the interlock device 481-3 was closed, due to the energization of the relay 481 due to the switch 469, because when the switch It was commanded to stop the advance (before the y'-y2 contacts closed), it had opened its g'-g2 contacts by opening the circuit of relay 483.
Therefore, since relay 483 was not energized, its servo device 483-2 was opened when switch 470 closed its x'-x2 contacts, which also kept the resulting circuit open. relay 482. In this arrangement of the control circuit, the clutch cone 96 stops in its neutral position and the turret carriage 23 is not driven by any translation movement.
On the other hand, if it is desired to stop the movement of the turret carriage while the latter is moving with the movement at rapid speed (that is to say when the piston 452 is in its position lower end in dotted lines in fig. 12) and that the clutch cone 96 is integral with the clutch head 94, the switch G which controls the stop of the advance is controlled either by a claw of the drum , either manually, and opens its contact g'-g2 and closes its contact g'-g3 to establish a circuit for relay 482 through the contacts x'-x2 of <B>. </B> the switch 470 and the locking device 483-2,
the latter being now closed due to the fact that the relay 483 has just been energized by means of the contacts g'-g2 of the switch U and the closed-loop control device 481-3 and that this relay 4b3 is kept under tension by its holding contact 483-1.
The relay 4b2 being energized, as we have just said, its control device 482-3 is closed and the current flows from the network of the sector 476 to the solenoid H 'which controls the lock 464, so as to move it away from 1u trajectory of movement of the rod 453 of the piston, which allows the latter to return to its advance position at normal speed shown in solid lines in FIG. 12.
Just as the piston reaches its intermediate or neutral position, switch 470 is activated and opens its contacts x'-x2 and closes its contacts x'-x3, but, since relay 482 continues to be energized via its holding contact 482-1 and device 481-2 (the latter still being closed), the solenoid of the air valve F 'is not energized and cannot be energized again so long that the piston 452 has not reached the forward position at normal speed;
at the moment this occurs (while, simultaneously, the clutch cone 96 engages with the clutch head 87, which brakes the speed of movement of the turret carriage), the switch 469 is activated and opens its contacts y'-y2, which cuts off the excitation of relay 481, which, in turn, opens device 481-2 which interrupts the supply of relay 482. This cutting of relay 482 has the effect of open the servo device 482-3 which de-energizes the solenoid H ', releases the latch 464, while the device 482-2 is closed and again energizes the relay 484, being.
since the contacts f'-f2 of the fast motion switch F are now united. Since relay 484 is now energized, its servo device 484-2 is closed and establishes a circuit through the solenoid of the compressed air valve r ', allowing the penetration of compressed air into it. the cylinder 451 (without subsequent actuation of a claw 122 or one of the manual levers b to l included) to move the piston 452, so that the latter reaches its neutral position, as it has already been described,
that is, when the piston first leaves its forward position at normal speed, switch 469 is commanded to unite its contacts y'-y2, which energizes relay 481, and, just when the piston reaches its neutral position, the switch 470 is put into play and opens its contacts x'-x3, which cuts the supply circuit of the solenoid of the air valve b ", thus interrupting the supply of compressed air to the cylinder, which is put in communication with the exhaust. At the same instant, the latch 464 engages on the shoulder 454 of the rod 453, which maintains the piston and therefore the cone 96 in their neutral position.
It is now possible, when the control elements and circuits are in the condition which has just been described, to move the turret carriage 23 again in motion at rapid speed controlled by the motor 100, by actuating switch F either by a drum claw or manually, or to move this carriage with a normal advance speed by actuating switch H also either by a drum claw or by hand, even if the 'switch G which controls the stopping of the advance is still in its position controlled by the claw or by hand, thus bringing together its contacts g'-g-, for the reasons explained above.
When it is desired to stop the rotation of the spindle 21, this can. be carried out by a claw 122 suitably placed on the drum 121 or by manually acting on the lever i which both actuate the spindle stop switch I whose contacts i'-i2 open, thus opening the circuit leading to the main control relay 479 and to the relay 477 which controls the AI motor, these relays in turn opening the contacts 479-1 and 477-1, respectively, and thus shutting down the engine of the cooling device, of on the one hand, and the one who controls the spindle, on the other hand;
however, the relay 480 which controls the high speed movement motor 100 remains energized by the lines <I> 476a </I> and 476b via the switch 488 normally closed and which controls the stopping of the machine, the closed servo device 480-2 and the contacts a '- a3 of the Manual run A. De-energizing feed motor relay 477 also causes normally closed latch 477-2 to close, which completes the spindle motor reverse relay 478 circuit.
A reversed current is now applied to the motor H, which stops it quickly, and at this moment the device JI 'opens its contacts m'-na2 which cut the power supply to the motor M. The normally closed device 478-2 , which was opened when relay 478 was energized to prevent excitation of relay 477 controlling the forward run of the spindle motor, is now closed.
With the spindle stopped, it is possible, since the fast movement control relay 480 is still energized and the motor 100 continues to rotate, to automatically control the turret carriage 23 by means of the motor 100 of the fast movement. high speed as described above.
However, if you want to stop all the components of the machine, instead of activating the spindle stop switch I or the feed stop switch G, you can press the button 488 which controls the total stop of the machine, which is a switch placed in the control circuit 476a and 476b before the button 485 for starting the machine, which opens its contacts la-2a and cuts the energization of all the control relays, which consequently stops all the motors, which can only be restarted by pressing the button 485 to start the machine.
By pressing pushbutton 489 (called jog), so as to unite its contacts z3-z4, relay 477 which controls the starting of the spindle motor can be energized, which causes this motor, but since relay 479 is still not energized, no holding circuit is established that is likely to continue spindle rotation when this button 489 is. released and opens its temporary operating contacts z3-z4 while reuniting its z'-z2 contacts. When this button 489 is released, the motor J1 which actuates the spindle stops rapidly as a result of the operation of the electric braking device M '.
In the circuits of the motor? L1 and of the high speed motor 100, overload relays 490, 491, 492 and 493 have been provided, so, in the event that one or more lines which should become overloaded, to open the circuits. appropriate.
In the event that the air pressure in the compressed air inlet 439 drops to a point. at which the air cylinders could not function effectively, or to a point lower than that for which the air pressure controlled switch 440 has been set, this switch will open the control circuit 476a-476b for disable all control devices.
When it is desired to operate the machine by hand, as has already been explained, by applying a suitable control tool to the square end of the shaft 118a provided with the worm screw for controlling the drum to claws, it is necessary to lift the lever 129 to allow this tool to be applied or to be threaded onto the end 1.18a, which has the effect of activating the switch A. This last, being thus commanded, opens its contacts a'-a3, thus cutting the circuit which leads to the relay 480 controlling the movement motor 100 at high speed and interrupting the excitation of the circuits included in the part of the diagram (fi ". 15) designated by the second brace from the top in this figure.
This closes the a'-a2 contact of the aforementioned relay 480 and enables the spindle motor 31 to be started by pressing the start button 485 or the jog button 489. \ ff the switches indicated in fig. 15 are normally maintained in a position shown in the diagram and which corresponds to the return effect exerted by the spring with which each contact is provided.
